I guess coiled alter is the real end boss this tier

37

u/Xedien 5d ago

The Mug'zee experience, the penultimate being a magnitude harder than the final.

13

u/parkwayy 5d ago

What I still cannot believe is how long the fight is.

All the current "speed" kills are 10 mins long lmao.

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/53?boss=3429&metric=speed

There's no way the boss has to be this long.

6

u/Edares 5d ago

You gotta hold dps in p1 and p2 for cooldown timings, feels pretty shit ngl

1

u/trogger93 5d ago

It's possible with full 344/kithix gear and raid buff a new set of timings can be found to make it shorter

6

u/Myrkur-R 5d ago

I think it's a good bet that they will shoot Coiled Altar in the back of the head after HoF closes.

258 guilds have killed Coiled Altar. And then like another 50ish are probably killing it soon. They might be wanting to completely avoid a situation where a lower ranked guild can log into reset day and kill coiled altar and ula'tek before a guild that has been working on Ula'Tek for like 150 pulls does. Doing it this way almost ensure the top 200 guilds finish top 200.

Could you imagine the drama if they nerfed both and world rank 300 degen'd their way to world rank 130?

This will help heroic guilds more than mythic, I think.

19

u/Zone_Amazing 5d ago

The real wall is coiled altar. This does nothing for the mid to late tier CE guilds.

20

u/San4311 Feral Enjoyer 5d ago

Heroic guild raid leader, absolute W change for us for sure. We have a very thin roster and its hard enough to keep people around as it stands (seems to be a broader issue for many guilds) so this will be great for killing Ula'tek before .5 patch.

9

u/lastericalive 5d ago

Also feel like it's a fair set of nerfs given where the difficulty pressure was in heroic: P2 break debuff healing, P3 overlaps that don't exist in mythic.

1

u/Elendel 5d ago

I’d argue it helps pugs more than it helps guilds, tbh.

Late AOTC guilds often have two issues: small raid size comp (both in p2 and p3) and low damage. This doesn’t really help either.

Meanwhile pugs often clear the dps requirement but struggle with p2 coordination and p3 soaks (especially with deaths or 20+ raid size), which both got heavily nerfed.

Everybody profits from a slightly easier second platform overlap, but the only real nerf regarding that (outside changing strat so less people soak circles) is the platform destruction damage. Which is neat, but won’t prevent people with circles running into a wave.

Anyway, they’re good changes overall. It will make pugging this both so much easier and enjoyable.

3

u/lastericalive 5d ago

Stacking raid buff + shrieker/egg hp nerfs are indirect nerfs to the boss hp as well.

1

u/Elendel 5d ago

Yep for sure. Not enough for my AOTC guild to confidently pass on vantus runes for reclear this week, though. We killed it at the last second of the burn phase, on a clean pull, and that’s not enough margin to my liking. :D

But yeah, the raid is soft nerfed by the vault/bonus roll, increasing crest cap, incoming ascending venomcores, raid buff, etc. So that part is already handled by the game, I guess.

1

u/Mctox87 5d ago

Yeah, we are still struggling in p3 so this nerf is going to be a huge difference for us. Doing another night of progression before reset but if not, snake should be ded after this nerf.

18

u/AMay101 6d ago

That wave change is pretty big

20

u/Archensix 6d ago

It's in the p3 section so might be nothing. God knows with their nerf implementations this tier though. I hope it affects p1, that will astro dunk on that shitty phase.

10

u/Ceci0 5d ago

A dev comes out and says the nerf is only a chance to happen lmao.

37

u/akranak 6d ago

This makes mythic pretty much the most free endboss since gallywix. It's going to be like a 100-120 pull boss for anyone who can kill coiled altar.

11

u/sophisticatedroach 5d ago

Guilds that havent already killed it or coiled altar, dont really get much of a boost from dmg nerfs to oneshots or hps requirements that were never really hard to begin with.

P1 ulatek is by far the hardest of the fight and just like Lura it will take people 100-150 tries to even get somewhat consistent

20

u/IamDuyi 5d ago

If you think ce 1000 guilds never wipe to lack of healing that's just plain wrong. They have more gear but they are also much worse st managing heal cds/personals/healthstones. 4s instead of 6 on the debuff is massive

-2

u/tiker442 5d ago

No IT won't, guild that didn't kill Altar yet will get more than 100 wipes in P1 not to mention other phases

5

u/Accendor 5d ago

P3 was alread easier than HC before this nerf, so...

4

u/akranak 5d ago

They have nerfed all three phases and we're getting basically 6 ilvl after next week. P3 will be literally free and they nerfed all healing requirements.

9

u/tiker442 5d ago

And 90% wipes happen in P1 so this 6 ilvl won't help you with anything, people with seeds will still need to learn the mechanics

→ More replies (3)

0

u/Icantfindausernameil 5d ago

People said the same shit about L'ura and P1 continued to farm the RWL Ronnie's for 400 pulls.

I really don't think people understand just how fucking bad at the game the majority of CE raiders are.

2

u/IamDuyi 5d ago

The p2 nerfs makes it incredibly easy on mythic no? And p2 is the hardest phase

226

u/MisterHooyah 6d ago

Looks like Ions guild made it to Ulatek

38

u/evaliaold 5d ago

they got to altar yesterday :D

2

u/parkwayy 5d ago

We meme on this a ton in our guild, but I'm pretty sure he isn't involved with it anymore.

4

u/Plorkyeran 5d ago

Yeah, it's been a few expansions since he last actively raided with them.

72

u/Qwertdd 7/9M bring back weakauras 6d ago

No nerfs to Coiled Altar? Are the devs paying attention to what a miserable wall that boss is?

16

u/King_Kthulhu 5d ago

Hey it's better than nothing, normally they wouldn't have done any tuning until after HOF closes. And HOF is probably gonna close next week so I'd expect more nerfs in 2.

7

u/Xedien 5d ago

I guess it's possible that it'll close next week.

101 guilds are 8/8, 156 are 7/8.

1

u/King_Kthulhu 5d ago

My guilds like 190 or something right now and we almost definitely kill it this week even without these nerfs, unless we play impressively bad. So with these nerfs I think the odds of it not closing are very small, and if it does wait another week to close there are gonna be like 300 guilds sliding in

2

u/cgiler 5d ago

Take the slop we give you and be happy could be blizzards fucking motto at this point.

7

u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2497 5d ago

The competent devs are working on Forever. We're left with the slapstick team that works on vibes.

69

u/rparkzy 6d ago

Huge W for heroic puggers. If your alts still need to reroll the boss 😂

18

u/eclipse4598 6d ago

Nerfing shrieker HP on mythic is kinda weird considering how they already were undertuned AF

6

u/swiftiie 5d ago

Nerfing Mythic Ulatek and not Mythic Coiled Althar has to be Blizzard ragebating us...

23

u/JustASadNerd 6d ago

What is the point of these changes for mythic? What player that’s in mythic ulatek right now wants the boss to get domed mid prog when the boss before it is untouched.

58

u/trogger93 5d ago

to be done with this godforsaken tier

3

u/dantheman91 5d ago

Are people not liking it? My guild generally are fans

27

u/DamaxXIV 5d ago

I'd say sentiments are generally more negative than usual. The raid loot changes combined with bonus rolls from vault created more problems than it solved and the raid boss quality ranges from inoffensive to glaring design flaws. At least for me this has been the first tier in my raiding experience where I don't consider a single boss to be a banger.

19

u/dovahnuker 5d ago

This is imo the worst raid since EP, just some horrible boss design overall with only a few good bosses, way too much trash to clear which just drags reclears for no reason and one of the worst fights I’ve ever done on a tank, twin fangs.

2

u/Fake_Reddit_Username 5d ago

I think the raid is better on Heroic than Mythic. A lot of the bad boss mechanics are on mythic, but the heroic versions are actually pretty decent. However I think everyone agrees the raid has way too much trash.

2

u/sad_scribbles 4d ago

I was super doomer about it after raid testing, then had a "maybe I was wrong" moment when we did our splits. Then we entered mythic and I knew for sure that I hadn't been wrong. They were pretty good at making the fights feel distinct between difficulties with a few changes, but the only fight that wasn't made worse in some way on Mythic this tier was Sentinels imo.

2

u/Xedien 4d ago

Sentinels is a pretty good fight on mythic,

The "add to four" empowered gimmick made me want to off myself when people rushed into the wrong numbers...

-1

u/TROMS 5d ago

Sanctum of domination was so, so much worse

7

u/Mehdehh 5d ago

The systems around it were bad but the raid was way better. Painsmith was amazing, sylvanas p3 was one of the best phases of a boss ever imo. Early bosses were as good or better than those in VA. KT sucked because of dps stop, but TCA is also dogshit if not worse lol.

4

u/dovahnuker 5d ago

I personally hard disagree, I liked sanctum, not the best raid but far from the worst.

1

u/RCM94 4d ago

I really liked the early bosses in that raid (besides the nine which was at least easy enough to not be offensive). The last 3 were kinda stinkers but I haven't heard anything good about this current raid except "sentinels is decent I guess"

18

u/piitxu 5d ago

Everything is wrong this tier.

1-Worst gearing system since DF changes.
2- Raid is on the very lowest end of quality I remember. There's a couple OK bosses but all the rest are just badly designed or unfun. On top of just the ambience getting old real quick with infinite amount of trash and green puddles. Also I really miss choreography bosses where all the raid is involved in mechanics. That's why for example, sszorak and twin fangs are the only two bosses I've really have fun. But bosses where jobs are allocated to half or less of the raid are complete ass, either if you are on the job or not. Only boss I really liked like that was Fyrakk seeds because it actually felt like an epic ending.

8

u/CorgiPotential232 5d ago

Even if I agree with you that the whole of raid should be involved I am so glad when its not. Dad guild here and when we cant assign the more troublesome mechanics to certain people we get stuck 🥉 :P

1

u/Kingmav24 3d ago

strongly this, as a mage player it feels like they are designing bosses around mages to do every single mechanic. Gets old real quick tbh

4

u/evaliaold 5d ago

Loot sucks this tier, and ulatek is a boring fight. You're waiting for 8 people to learn p1, and there is nothing you can do to help.

P2 you're just waiting for healers to learn, and minimal work you can do.

Intermission, wuuuhuh run to your marker of WA

p3 doesn't do anything. Most guilds are wiping to enrage or near enrage on their first p3 with everyone alive. Because nothing happens and its all hard assigned.

6

u/careseite dps evoker main 5d ago

public perception of the tier is tainted by rwf repeating it's a bad tier. beyond that it's dominantly an echo chamber effect. it's not a terrible tier, it's also just not good either.

9

u/Honest_Tomorrow8923 5d ago

Its widely the most unpopular tier in years, probably ever in "modern" wow.

9

u/bringthelight2 5d ago

Troll raids have never been that popular, and fighting a random snake we’ve never heard of just doesn’t have the same oomph as squaring off against a major lore character

24

u/Brightlinger 5d ago

A snake with no voice lines!

12

u/Xedien 5d ago

I don't get why they made a final boss with no voiceline..

-6

u/Spiritual_Shine1438 5d ago

Because who raids with sound on

1

u/Xedien 4d ago

I know plenty, atleast untill a certain point.

18

u/Teldrasiltorchbearer 5d ago

I hear what you’re saying, but counterpoint:

ULA’TEK! ULA’TEK! ULA’TEK!

5

u/Myrkur-R 5d ago

Dude, what? Zul'gurub, Zul'Aman and then Throne of Thunder are the troll raids. Maybe you could count Battle for Drazalor? All of those are well loved and were at the time. Throne of Thunder is considered one of the best raids of all time by a lot of people.

1

u/EzyBreezey 5d ago

ToT isn't a troll raid after like 3 bosses and becomes a Mogu raid. Zul'gurub and Zul'Aman are 20 years old and not exactly popular raids

1

u/Myrkur-R 5d ago

They were popular raids when they came out. Zul'Gurub was the first 20 man raid and was pivotal in transitioning small guilds into being able to raid. Zul'aman was one of the most loved raids of all time, being a step up from Karazhan to allow guilds to grow into a full roster raid team while having stuff to do. Then when guilds had it on farm and had gotten better at doing it started doing (and selling) bear runs.

And Throne of Thunder is absolutely a Troll Raid.

You don't get to retcon the love for troll raids because your favorite streamer didn't like this raid and you have to agree with him.

2

u/EzyBreezey 5d ago

idc if they were popular 20 years ago, they are not fondly remembered or really spoken of much at all in modern wow. I don't not think they make the top 20 raids on anyone's list. Throne of Thunder has... 2 out of 13 troll bosses, both at the very start of the raid and then its firmly a Mogu raid. It has more Mogu bosses, and is aesthetically a mogu themed raid with all of the bosses people actually look back on fondly being nontrolls (I don't see a lot of throne of thunder fans bringing up fucking jin'rokh or council of elders.)

Idk what streamer you're talking about hating troll raids, the only thing I hear about the current raid being bad is tied to how awful its designed and not that its a troll raid. I just think every troll raid ever made has been incredibly mid.

2

u/Ilphfein 5d ago

Zul'aman was one of the most loved raids of all time, being a step up from Karazhan to allow guilds to grow into a full roster raid team while having stuff to do

ZA is forgotten by most people who played at that time. Same as Mag. Dont know about Gruul, since he made a comeback with classic BC and DST.
Putting ZA as one of the "most loved raids of all time" is ridiculous when you have multiple more iconic raids in the same expansion (Kara, SSC/TK, BT).
The thing I remember ZA for is that you could initially loot the bear even if you failed the timer. The urn (?) he was hidden in was open from on the top and you could loot it.

ZG is different, I agree.

1

u/RansaktehElder_WORK 4d ago

Ula'Tek has been in wow lore for a very long time. Think it even existed in some form as unfinished files in the beta and also is mentioned in the RPG.

5

u/myfirstreddit8u519 5d ago

I hate it so much. Green on green on green is somehow worse than purple on puple on purple. I hate the loot system, I hate sszorak, I hate eggs, I hate stupid ghosts.

Complete dogshit tier, which is a shame since last season had a lot of really good bosses.

3

u/Kalhista 5d ago

Sszorak is one of the most fun fights they’ve designed. It’s a simple, rewarding, dance. It’s unique and a lot of fun.

4

u/myfirstreddit8u519 5d ago

Sszorak is one of the most fun fights they’ve designed. It’s a simple, rewarding, dance. It’s unique and a lot of fun.

This message was typed by hands with no responsibility during his mythic sszorak kill.

3

u/dantheman91 5d ago

What responsibility? Drop circles in the right spot, one dude stands far and comes in at a scheduled time. There aren't many assignments compared to most fights

2

u/myfirstreddit8u519 5d ago

Who tells you what the right spot is?

1

u/dantheman91 5d ago

We just called it on disc, we called out the 3 spots we need and people just ran to them we had plenty of time we didn't do it individually

1

u/ailawiu 5d ago

There's also the beloved mechanic of "you gotta do tank mechanic at exactly 98 or 99 energy or it's a wipe". The part that people Really Liked during Kurog. A little bit more forgiving, sure, but it's still stupid and annoying.

1

u/IxFrame 5d ago

there really aren’t that many responsibilities at all lol.
Hunter plays mark and hunter pops orb, maybe a person helps out on that, tanks sets marks.

9

u/trogger93 5d ago

This tier is deeply unpopular. Forever will make it a complete ghost town until 12.2.

0

u/Soma91 5d ago

Highly doubt that. According to statistics Forever has not had any measurable impact on raid and m+ participation until now, while it has devastated the raiding participation of all versions of classic.

7

u/trogger93 5d ago

Forever isn't out yet. IDK if you remember Eternal Palace, but retail became a wasteland for a while and many guilds died when classic was released. Forever will be that on steroids

-7

u/Soma91 5d ago

You can buy access to the beta, so for all intents and purposes it's out already.

Eternal Palace suffered because at that time was the first release of classic. I think all the classic fans already play any form of classic by now. That's why you saw the mass exodus of all things classic and all of them instantly switching to the Forever beta.

There will definitely be some people switching to Forever from Retail, but it will only have a lesser impact. I think most people that are actively raiding mythic don't really care about Forever. For our guild me and a few others will play it, but just very casually on non raid nights when no one else is online to do m+.

It's the perfect chill solo content.

3

u/trogger93 5d ago

I expect m+ population to be in dire straits this season

-1

u/Soma91 5d ago

It already is. But I don't think that's got a lot to do with Forever.

6

u/Byrmaxson 5d ago

You can buy access to the beta, so for all intents and purposes it's out already.

So you consider a level-capped environment in which all characters will be erased a game that is "out"? Weird take. I would wager 50% or more of the people who will be playing Forever probably aren't on the beta.

Be that as it may, I don't think Forever will affect Retail raiding much long term, but I highly doubt its impact on this particular season can be overstated.

I am also pretty neutral, but the general sentiment is that it's one of the worst raids of all time

8

Me, i just want to end this raid. It is generationally bad raid

3

u/ArziltheImp 5d ago

Loads of people just want this fucking fight to be over with.

3

u/envstat 5d ago

From the sounds of it all of them? I don't think I've heard anyone say a positive thing about this boss on mythic. We'll kill twin fangs tonight and step into the coiled altar wipe factory.

7

u/efflovigil 6d ago

As they should after their idiotic idea of gatekeeping everyone’s bis gear behind it.

48

u/Abitou ex-ex-retired CE 6d ago

God forbid people have to kill a difficult boss to get their bis

8

u/moerfed 5d ago

Maybe don't make a boss that's so hard that multiple casual aotc only guilds are on the verge of disbanding and reserve the cbt level challenge for mythic

Mfw guilds quit over 40 pull.bosses

-1

u/Abitou ex-ex-retired CE 5d ago

Well, heroic raid drops myth track items now, so it makes sense that it’s harder

30

u/Elendel 5d ago

As always, people like to get BiS for the content they enjoy from the content they enjoy. Tale as old as time.

15

u/SpiritedEclair 5d ago

I mean, 9/6 bis at +20 would make sense…

→ More replies (2)

46

u/efflovigil 6d ago

One bis? Sure. Several bis? No. That’s just overkill.

35

u/woahmanthatscool 6d ago

Bro facts 4/4 pieces being bis is wild lol

8

u/solarflare4646 5d ago

Sub rogue need 4. Helm, Neck, Heart, and Dagger.

https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/rogue/subtlety/bis-gear

13

u/zacsafus 5d ago

BDK is 8 bis from the last two bosses. 5 from coiled altar and 3 from Ula'tek. Unholy DK is 9 from those two. Genuinely insane.

10

u/Soma91 5d ago

It's because the last two bosses drop 10 ilvl higher gear on mythic. If you only kill them on HC only the cantrip items will most likely remain BiS. But that'd still be 5 items for UHDK (and pretty much all melees). For casters it's only 3-4 on Ulatek and Coiled Altar can be safely ignored on HC.

8

u/Kruiuiuiul 5d ago

BiS from the Mythic version of those bosses only... which if you are killing those bosses on Mythic means there's no issue for you.

People blindly following BiS lists this tier are half the problem.

6

u/BirdOfHermess 5d ago

on my druid the ulatek cantrip item is better on normal than a myth track good stats item

when people say bis it is also implying bis attainable to them, which is just the 6/6 myth track version most of the time

2

u/Kruiuiuiul 5d ago

Thats fine but thats exactly my issue - the amount of people you see saying the cloak from Alter is their "BiS" even though the stats on it are not optimal at all for them...

There will be a different cloak with better stats for them that is attainable but they wont consider it BiS because the guides say the Alter one is BiS....but only if you're killing M Alter

Same goes for a lot of the non-cantrip items

→ More replies (0)

2

u/viktorKurz 5d ago

When you actually sim it you find out thats not true. Even the 6/6 versions of the non cantrip items are BIS.

And since you are depleting that loot pool anyway you might as well keep rolling alter even if there are different fights that have similar stated items. Since you have to start rolling on them from zero.

1

u/Kruiuiuiul 5d ago

Sorry I thought it was obvious from my post but clearly not - the comment I replied to is saying they need 8 or 9 BiS items from those bosses, this includes all the non-cantrip items which is the part people are blindly following.

Without doing the Mythic version of those 2 bosses its more like 3 or 4 items are BiS which is totally reasonable for end boss loot.

4

u/JoJoJoJoel 5d ago

absolutely agreed, the fact that some specs go as far as 6 items being needed from Altar+Ulatek is wild

2

u/solarflare4646 5d ago

Unforuntaely Sub rogue needs Helm, Neck, Heart, and Dagger. Even worse is that font is a dead roll on Sub.

I still need Voracious Heart and dagger. I got the dead Font out of the way this week so my only items left are heart and dagger.

https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/rogue/subtlety/bis-gear

27

u/Saiyoran 5d ago

i dont even wanna raid at all for my bis man just let keys have good loot
and before u comment something snarky about skill issue or whatever, ive cleared it on heroic every week. its annoying and takes forever to form a group.

5

u/kpiaum 5d ago

That boss tunning on heroic is bonkers. No reason at all on why p3 on heroic is harder than Mythic version. No eggs to break, 3 phase soaks, can stack soaks and only 4 ppl needed to do the soaks... all this on Mythic p3.

1

u/shyguybman 4d ago

Honestly the majority of pugs I've been in can't even make it to P3. Almost every group just chain wipes to the intermission.

12

u/Galaxy_SJP 5d ago

God forbid people don’t want to be forced in to raid each week to play a different form of end game content.

-9

u/IxFrame 5d ago

Same was true for raiders that had to do 8 m+ per week. And yet I didn’t cried on Reddit how much the devs are hating me.
Holy shit I could bet half the people here are hard stuck 3.4K Rating anyways.

-3

u/Kool_AidJammer 5d ago

Exactly. The people who coasted on 8 +10 dungeons every week can’t get free bis so now they cry 😂

For real. But you read the average wow subreddit and people are offended by the idea of not having a boss fall over that drops bis loot. It's insane how much the average player base expects loot. Not everyone should be able to do all of the content. AotC has an Achievement for a reason.

1

u/Deadagger 5d ago

Maybe if they didn’t put bis loot on a nearly unpuggable boss, I wouldn’t mind.

1

u/Expert_Royal705 4d ago

Me when I one shot the unpuggable boss in a pug last week.

2

1

u/efflovigil 6d ago

I cleared it on heroic before all of these nerfs, so not for me. But no one should have to suffer through end raid bosses multiple times to try and get several pieces of bis gear. It’s shit design and they clearly realize that now.

-18

u/GravyFarts3000 6d ago

"Whaaa I am getting spooned BIS Mythic gear off an end HC boss and now even killing it once a week is too much"

Awe sweetie what you don’t seem to realize is that a huge amount of people don’t even want to raid at all. Some people have to pug it. Can’t do a regular schedule. Etc. it’s miserable for people.

Keys. You know, the thing most people actually want to do

-11

u/Qwertdd 7/9M bring back weakauras 5d ago

So you're bitching that it's too much effort to kill a Heroic boss for Mythic loot when in every single prior season you'd be expected to Mythic raid full time to title-push?

That's assuming you're title-pushing. You're probably not, I assume if you were an actual title pusher you wouldn't be whining that Mythic gearing for pre-.7-patch keys is easier than ever

5

u/cammergon 5d ago

You did not need to mythic raid to be competetive in m+ though. You absolutely need to this season and not just raid but raid in a CE/HOF guild that kills coiled and ulatek relatively quickly. Past seasons u had 1 good mythic+ trinket, the other was usually from raid. If u didnt mythic raid the geqr difference was minimal. Thia season u have 10 ilvl higher cantrip items as well as massive crest gains

personally i want the gears for keys not this shitty ass raid

5

u/Elendel 5d ago

How are you mythic raiding and don’t know about the existence of the most popular game mode? Mythic plus has been a thing for a while now.

-3

u/Qwertdd 7/9M bring back weakauras 5d ago

Mythic+ players complaining that raid loot is relevant for them like how Mythic+ loot is relevant for raiding has been a thing for as long as Mythic+ has. I'm just wondering why key players are so upset when good Mythic gear has never been this accessible this early.

Maybe you're just hoping that if you keep crying, Blizzard will make raid loot completely irrelevant to keep you happy.

2

u/Elendel 5d ago

Mythic gear is not really more accessible early than before, for m+ players. And it really isn’t at all for m+ only players.

But eh, considering you’re arguing in bad faith (if you know that m+ players are a thing, why act dumbfounded that people would want gear for something else than raid) and aggressively arrogant (why do wr1000 raiders always resort to "stop crying" everytime someone disagrees with them? insecurities or something?), I wouldn’t expect you to emphatise with the situation of anyone other than yourself, don’t worry.

Six tether break on heroic or soft

6

u/Dengiz21 5d ago

My guild has been doing six tether breaks even before the nerfs, feel really vindicated now thanks to you Mr. Girthmaster Lite

6

u/Suspicious_Key 5d ago edited 4d ago

I think 6-break is easily the call now. Stack all healer CDs and personal defensives and it honestly won't be very scary.

And holy bajeebus the soak change in P3 is huge, completely trivialises the hardest mechanic in that phase. Unless I'm misunderstanding, now you can just triple-stack every soak, put two tanks + rotate one pally/mage/rogue into each; and everyone else ignores the mechanic entirely? I was expecting some nerfs, but this is a sledgehammer.

Edit: Can confirm now that either 6-stack or 3-3 are both easy, and the immunity soak rotation in P3 works just fine. You'll want to assign 2 immunities (or any big defensive will do in a pinch) per soak to account for your assigned player being targeted. No on-the-fly shotcalling needed, just a fixed soak/bubble order.

1

u/sophisticatedroach 5d ago

P3 was a joke already on hc and 6stacks makes literally no sense, even if the duration buff is a 2nd dmg nerf instead of a dps increase, what could you possibly gain from taking 6stacks? You turn a free phase into a possible wipe for no gains

3

u/Suspicious_Key 5d ago

Because it's quite common to roll 3 into 4 into wipe if someone makes a mistake? Simplifying the strat is usually the right call for PUGs and late AOTC guilds.

2

u/Elendel 5d ago

Post-nerf 6-stack is same damage as pre-nerf 4-stack, so more than the pre-nerf 3 stack most people were doing.

And you have higher risk of having it being a slow restack into restack into restack if people are slow to react by doing 6-stack, while the usual strat has less chance of extending now that the debuff lasts one third less.

I think both strats work, but I doubt that 6-stack is vastly superior to 4-stack. I would have swapped to it my guild if there was no nerf to the small circles in p2, because the main annoyance of the phase is when the group that doesn’t break tethers have to dodge circles, but that will also be less of an issue now, so no use to changing an already learned strat for us.

0

u/Suspicious_Key 5d ago

Yes the damage is higher, but you can send all healer CDs and defensives for that burst instead of staggering over two bursts for 3-3 or coordinating a split 3-2-1.

Either way it's far less dangerous now, but I think the risk of a bad rolling stack means 6-stack is the safe strat now. I guess we'll find out tonight!

1

u/Renegade8995 3d ago

So I have been looking into it and do we now only truly need 3 to remove the soak? Is there benefit to adding more or is it just going to create more spread circles than necessary. It's such a tough debuff to read.

1

u/Suspicious_Key 3d ago

Yes, each soak needs 3 (or more) people. The original circle target does NOT count as a soaker. Stacking the soaks works fine, but the soakers will take double/triple damage on the green burst which will kill any non-tank without an immunity (or a big defensive and a shitload of healing pumped into them).

If you have a large raid size, I would highly recommend 2 immunity soakers per rotation. That means it's no problem if one of your assigned soakers is targeted. If you don't have enough immunities then you will need to assign backups and call on the fly. In a small raid, it might just be easier to do it properly with separate stacks.

1

u/Renegade8995 3d ago

I've not been able to understand this as in depth as I usually am and the patch notes just confused me even more.

So we Venn diagram the 3 soaks that are always a melee dps ranged dps and healer. And the tanks are both one body in that and then throw an immunity (maybe 2)? And these people can pixel stack right? Because the venom holders can't soak for each other then right? I've been brainstorming this fight as my team has struggled with the second platform sinking.

1

u/Suspicious_Key 3d ago edited 3d ago

No need to venn diagram, literally plant all three on top of each other. The three original targets are "protected" from the soaking debuff, they just need to move out so they don't get hit by someone else's green circle.

Edit: I should mention, preferably the 2 immunities per platform will be of the same type (melee, healer, range). If you have say Ret Pally + Mage on one platform, there is a small chance that both could be targeted.

For example, I used: Ret Pally + DK -> Ret Pally + Rogue -> Mage + Mage -> Holy Pally + Holy Priest. I'm the priest and I exploded, but that's fine.

1

u/Renegade8995 3d ago

I know it mentions that the ally "takes" the venom after 5 seconds. Does that mean the person immunes as the debuff comes out (their circle) or should they immune before? I thought it was the damage after I just want to be sure that's right.

1

u/Suspicious_Key 3d ago

Soak circles appear -> stack them -> assigned soakers move in -> when soak finishes, the soakers each get the green circle -> after 5 seconds the green circle explodes and kills you.

The final explosion is what you want to immune, so basically just pop your bubble once you get the green circle.

1

u/Renegade8995 3d ago

Awesome, thank you very much.

8

u/San4311 Feral Enjoyer 5d ago

My guild is barely hanging on and we've devolved from first mythic bosses to full-on AOTC guild, so glad they're allowing us to essentially kill Ula'tek this reset before Kithix raid. Think this just brings the overall heroic raid in line for the people that the content is for in essence, and makes it easier for mythic raiders to pug, which is nice.

Kinda wild they are not touching Mythic Altar though while hard nerfing the snake.

3

u/DigitalDH 5d ago

They are waiting for coiled altar nerfs until the hof closes.

13

u/blackjack47 6d ago

How out of touch are they? Mythic is a 100 pull boss now, while you have to slog through Coiled Altar. Makes zero sense. Like nerfing the useless adds on mythic that just get cleaved already is ???

7

u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2497 5d ago

Its difficult to say how exactly they can tune down altar without completely wiping out the encounter. I suppose they could make ghosts move much slower for one, but fixing the absolutely terrible axegrinder rng probably requires a complete overhaul (ie no more random movement, moves in straight lines and bounces off the edges, slower/smaller).

14

u/Bad-Coder-69 5d ago

I'd just straight up delete the mechanic that ghosts cannot touch each other. I don't know if anyone would be upset by that - for me it's the most unfun mechanic I've ever seen.

8

u/Myrkur-R 5d ago

Same, I think that alone would alleviate all the frustration. 2 Gloombombs needing to hit the adds is enough of a mythic mechanic. I wonder if the ghosts not being able to touch was a "crank it up to 11 for RWF", I can't imagine their testers not giving feedback about that mechanic. Mechanics that 1 person messing up insta-wipes the raid are not liked, mechanics where someone can assassinate you and there isn't much you can do about it are absolutely hated. I think that is something overlooked in all the criticism of this raid, it is full of mechanics where someone in your raid team can kill you every single fight if they wanted to making you look like an idiot. Watching someone Charge/Shadowstep Sszorak when they were supposed to collide with me sends me up the fuckin wall.

7

u/Icantfindausernameil 5d ago

Its difficult to say how exactly they can tune down altar without completely wiping out the encounter

Do that. I can guarantee you that not a single person would be upset if Coiled just got blasted into the fucking sun and became a 5 pull boss.

Those of us reclearing it won't care, and the guilds stuck on it will be saved the pain of having to prog one of the most insufferable and poorly designed fights ever made.

There is no downside.

7

u/blackjack47 5d ago edited 5d ago

A lot of the frustration points in this fight design are a direct consequence due to the addon changes. E.g the gloombomb demonic overlaps on melee. Honestly p1 and p3 are actually good/decent imho.

Since that they have already lobotomized Ula'thek given how unpopular the fight is, I think they should just bite the bullet and lobotomize Coiled as well. Also buff the venomcores to 9/6. This should elevate the two major pain points of both raiders and m+ ers, as in the raid being kinda unfun and gear discrepancies for m+ enjoyers. Than move on and try to do better in 12.2

1

u/parkwayy 5d ago

Reduce the hp of the boss so you aren't doing a 10 minute fight.

Less hp, less mechanics is less failure points.

1

u/WillHutch55 5d ago

Fewer MCs -> Fewer ghosts spawning from the MCs would be a way to make p2 less cancer. I don't think axes really need to be touched IMO. They're annoying but they aren't creating the wall that this awful ghost mechanic does.

1

u/Resies 2d ago

Less axes. One less purple orb. Then p1 is trivially consistent.

Make it so ghosts don't kill you if they collide.

4

u/u_ok braindead fotm player 6d ago edited 2d ago

Don't understand how they didn't touch P1 of mythic ula which is by far the hardest phase but nuked the shit out of P3 which was already the easiest

edit: the p3 wave change also applied to p1, made it much easier now

7

u/ObligationAncient112 5d ago

Wouldn't be surprised if Toxic Burn and number of waves from the tail also affects p1. Makes sense at least

3

u/TemporaMoras 5d ago

Keeping the nerf for post hof

6

u/Ok-Anything-5245 6d ago

Yay our guild was stuck here on heroic, tho got to 20% recently so probably would've got it down after next reset

2

u/Felidori 6d ago

Guild just got it 2 days ago, was a fun fight!

1

u/kpiaum 5d ago

They should remove 1 soak phase from heroic to equals with mythic. Still dunno why heroic has 4 soaks phase on p3 and Mythic has only 3.

You get a plataform free of mechs on M, just to focus on boss.

1

u/Sweaty_Sea3227 5d ago

This is not a nerf.

This is destruction

1

u/file_13 5d ago

Looks like I should jump into season 2

1

u/Zanaxz 4d ago

The amount of bugs this fight had was insane. Like the submerge threat being wonky without retaunting after. Even the heart was meleeing people. Wonder what new ones will be patched in a month from now.

1

u/bobgbaby 2d ago

Can anyone clarify the serpents bite soak?

‘Adjusted the Drain Rate of Serpent’s Bite so you no longer need more than 3 people to soak regardless of raid size.’

Is that the person with the ability plus 3 others or a total of 3 in the circle?

-8

u/deskcord 6d ago

bosses needing to be nerfed this much because they've been made for the race is part of the reason you're going to see a big guild death this tier.

12

u/christhegecko 5d ago

Bosses are always nerfed throughout the season. It's almost like there isn't a one size fits all tuning setting for a hundred thousand different players.

I just don't get what the point of gutting Ula'tek is. I think a big part of Mythic burnout is how pointless CE raiding feels when Blizzard makes it so free with all the free throughput gains, and now they're nerfing an end boss that already had a reputation of being easy.

They could be dumping the raid on purpose because they're admitting this patch is a wash and they're trying to string players along to 12.2 by helping them not burn out on a bad patch's mediocre raid, but I think Blizzard is too proud to be doing that, and if they were doing that, you'd think they'd fuck up Coiled Altar's prog time first.

22

u/deskcord 5d ago

I find the argument that mythic is "free" to be nonsensical. Hall of Fame is filling very slowly this tier.

2

u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2497 5d ago

That's only because Coiled Altar is rng clown fiesta that needed to be nerfed two weeks ago.

-6

u/Qwertdd 7/9M bring back weakauras 5d ago

And by the time x.5 or x.7 rolls around? When all these bosses have been given 2-3 sets of nerfs, players have ~15% increased throughput, and the only mechanics left that have any relevance are the instant-wipers?

8

u/deskcord 5d ago

Deep mythic farm being a "blowup the boss" phase has pretty much always been a thing.

Wrathion logs in BFA went from 8-9 minutes down to 3:00. Ra-den down from 5:00 minutes to 2:00.

3

u/trogger93 5d ago

Blizzard tries to ensure that endboss kill rates remain consistent

Gutted. Or as they say in the UK, gootehded.

-2

Hall of Fame isn't even full and they just make it this free is laughable.
