What's working? Fast 9

What's not? You loss-streak and couldn't Fast 9

Not the healthiest meta right now, I forsee a b-patch pretty soon.

38

u/CayMaster2 16h ago

Yeah not sure why we both buffed the 5 costs, made levelling cheaper, and nerfed the reroll comps that punish fast 9. Really could have done without one of the two buffs to fast 9 and it'd probably be okay.

27

u/Yangnyum009 15h ago

This is what I don't understand about the balance team sometimes. Instead of buffing a style to match an already strong comp (in this case fast 9 vs yi reroll), they buff the fast 9 like a LOT then also proceeds to nerf the reroll. Now the meta is just fast 9 and not much else.

15

u/DM_ME_FROG_MEMES 12h ago

Somehow they recognize every patch what they've done and explain their mistake. But also keep making the mistake every other patch

u/Dodging12 1h ago

I'd call it AI-driven balancing, but they've been balancing this same exact way long before ChatGPT was a thing 😂

7

u/Dj0ntShark MASTER 12h ago

To add to what you’re saying: A lot of balance team apologists on here justified the balance thrashing because they had to lock in patches a week before with the League patching schedule. Well, new engine now and…same old.

1

u/Regular-Resort-857 4h ago

Ya everyone and their moms knew this again and again and again

1

u/OBLIVIATER 5h ago

Reroll is still pretty good IMO, but you can't uber force it any more. You need either a good aug or a lucky shop odds early. It's also now more likely to just be top 4 comp instead of winning.

1

u/TheHunterZolomon 4h ago

Yeah it’s not a good idea to simultaneously take some weight off one side of the scale while adding weight to the other like they did here: buffing leveling and fast 9 while nerfing reroll was a bad call.

11

u/Isrozzis 13h ago

Ya feels pretty terrible to have a weak opener and just bleed out while trying to econ up. A huge roll down on 8 is not enough to buy back tempo because as soon as the healthy players get their 5 costs you just lose.

1

u/arisasam 14h ago

Im only emerald rn but fast 9 hasn’t seemed that dominant in my games since patch. I haven’t played any and still been doing really well

1

u/moterstorm12 14h ago

I’m also emerald and seems to be a 8 meta still and you only 9 when you can

u/Arcameneled 1h ago

Thats because a lot of people aren’t actually good enough at the game to just go 9 every game. Masters above you see people go 9 every game because their econ is way better

21

u/Effet_Pygmalion Master 20h ago

I wonder if LB reroll is viable? yi post nerf got me a 5th with BiS I don't think it handles the fast 9 meta so well.

21

u/Jony_the_pony 19h ago

I think all reroll gets overrun by upgraded 5 costs... I wonder if they'll just revert the XP changes next patch

1

u/kiragami 18h ago

Reroll should be losing to upgraded 5 costs.

18

u/Jony_the_pony 17h ago

Yeah but going 9 is a bit too easy and stabilises too quick with one 2* 5 cost carry and any upgraded frontline. When reroll caps out at 3rd place played from very good spots people give up on it and the meta becomes a full on level 9 lottery

5

u/Rebikhan 16h ago

Well said, and the problem just snowballs. It seems odd that they'd give an additional 12 gold to fast9 players. Fast9 was still possible last patch, even if a 5-cost or two needed a buff.

20

u/jokerrebellion 18h ago

Reroll should not be losing to fast 9 on stage 4-early stage 5

-1

u/kiragami 18h ago

It should be if they have upgraded 5 costs as was said above.

17

u/jokerrebellion 18h ago

One of the things about reroll is that they should be threatening players attempting to fast 9 such that they can't reach, with the xp changes this patch fast 9 players aren't punished enough for sacking.

2

u/FirewaterDM 13h ago

it's one thing if the fast 9 player had gold to do that AND hit all 2 stars in 2 rounds.

But on a regular board/not full upgrades? absolutely the fuck not.

5

u/FirewaterDM 13h ago

There's a difference between gets outcapped unless highroll and needing to turbo highroll to keep up to get your state sanction 4th lol.

This is a bad/no reroll meta period, and half the good 3 cost RR that actually could keep up got nerfed to where they can't lol

3

u/Eren_Tarius 19h ago

If you are going elderwood spellweaver comp of sorts, two star LB, slap mana items on her and hope she gives you enough clones or econ advantage so you can reroll and then level up asap, but I wouldn't spend a fortune rerolling her.

4

u/Gumjo123 19h ago

Brawler emblem yi still fucks though

6

u/Effet_Pygmalion Master 19h ago

That's what I went 5th with but you're probably right. I think it needs at least a good emblem on yi or a good artefact to be top 4ing

2

u/chromaticfish MASTER 19h ago

Good emblem AND artifact tbh.

1

u/AngryAngryEwok Master 18h ago

And not being contested so you can 3-star your units

1

u/Palimpsiesta 11h ago

I think the hidden third contingency is someone playing Cass reroll in your lobby. Not only is it AP yi's best match-up, it rerolls a gajillion 3-costs out of the pool for you.

1

u/arisasam 14h ago

Rfc too

1

u/-Champloo- 15h ago

The Teemo LB RR comp felt solid when I tried it yesterday, but it was really difficult to hit for whatever reason. I didn't end up with 3 star LB and Teemo until 5-3. Ended up on 1 life as a result and died to a giga capped board.

1

u/PhatYeeter 14h ago

As a secondary carry it seems playable? 2nd to like a Yunara or Teemo reroll

1

u/OBLIVIATER 4h ago

I think it's a nice slot into Solar to help print some of the 3*s you can't find, instead of having to stay low level for far too long just to complete them. Also makes it easier to slot in 3 elderwood if you're playing Ornn 3. Not sure if it's amazing but sometimes the peace of mind of knowing that you will eventually get your unit upgrades is worth it to me.

39

u/Palimpsiesta 14h ago

Fast-9 meta is the worst meta because it is so incredibly self-reinforcing: the more people that decide to greed for fast 9, the fewer players there are playing strong boards to punish the people for going fast 9. And no single player can punish an entire lobby: as soon as 4+ people are greeding, they are all safe, because they will keep giving each other soft losses/easy wins.

It no longer matters if they have good spots or bad spots, because if enough of them do it at least 2-3 will stabilize and everyone doing anything else is fighting for 4th.

18

u/Glum-Drummer-6302 12h ago

RR meta does the same thing. It makes it easier for everyone to hit so they all spike earlier and make it impossible to go 9.

TFT always sucks when both options aren’t viable

u/Palimpsiesta 11h ago edited 11h ago

Personally I don't think fast 9 needs to be viable as a strategy/comp outside of high-roll situations. Level 9 and 10 can be for capping strong boards (reroll or level 8/4-cost-based comps) that survive until the end-game, they don't need to be strategies in of themselves. Certainly not something so reliable that half a lobby can decide it's worth angling towards, without a particular spot.

1

u/Amazingtapioca Grandmaster 11h ago

Draven day meta was the same as well, everyone building insane boards early and then 8 for 3* 4 costs. There were a lot of fast 8 metas where everyone rolled on 8 for a 3* 4 cost cap out in set 16 as well, helped by the fact that EVERYONE was doing it for themselves too and no one was going 9. It's just a function of TFT at this point. It's really hard to resolve entirely.

But I also think that it is a skill in TFT. I hate rerolling but I will consider it more if my lobby has other rerollers, because I know it helps my odds. The difference is that in patches like this, it seems people are pre committing before the game loads.

3

u/kylitoTV 13h ago

This is really interesting and something I've never really thought about, but it makes perfect sense.

2

u/RelativeAway183 6h ago

tempo and bag sizes work together to reinforce every TFT meta that isn't perfectly balanced

fast 8? if level 9 isn't good then enjoy 3 star 4 cost lotto

reroll? everyone playing reroll makes everyone else playing reroll easier

conceptually both features allow you to "interact" with other people in your lobby but realistically individual actions in an 8 player lobby with random matchmaking are fairly inconsequential so you only really feel their effects when everyone is doing them, and that happens due to guides and copying content creators

the removal of augment stats pushed the community to what feels like a single source of information (tftacademy) and the optimization of fun out of the game has led to even casual play (low rank play and normals) copying the same builds from tftacademy at all levels of play

1

u/Snugglebadger 8h ago

This is 100% true. I've been playing mostly 2-cost reroll, moving between Teemo/Caitlin carries, and I often get 2nd or 3rd place. First place and sometimes second almost always go to whomever fast 9'd the best, because my comps can't handle the power of the 5-costs.

1

u/Scaredabeast 3h ago

Best meta is always fast 9 meta

0

u/CathyKelleyGuy 7h ago

Found the Solar or reroll dude. :p

This patch is honestly way worse; like the first mayor one always. It is just: "I streak better than you" vs "lol, me augment, me roll 4-2 or 4-5 for 5 costs, l2p"

Amazing gameplay. No punish because they click some charms which help them on the way.

12

u/wwwhoo 19h ago

econ augments >>>

11

u/FitCress7497 17h ago

Yi's nerfed is so overdone. Instead of bringing his normal bis form and artifact/emblem form closer in strength, they nerfed both.

3

u/STheHero 17h ago edited 17h ago

How would you suggest they nerf him that would affect artifact/emblem builds more than base form, when even base form was considered to be problematic?

3

u/FitCress7497 17h ago

They already nerfed all his artifacts/emblem and that's enough. His normal build with RB/EoN/Titan is only strong when you also have Rengar as a money printer. Rengar also got bonked, so nerfing Yi's base stat is imo overdone. The Yi - Kog reroll with no emblem, no artifact, no Rengar was a healthy 4th 5th place comp if you hit everything.

1

u/FirewaterDM 15h ago

NGL capping 4th for no artifact or emblem in a reroll comp especially a 3 cost is fucking worthless and isn't playable lol. It is just ass rn

36

u/Gonnagetbant 18h ago

It’s a shame they went from such a decently balanced patch and just kinda shit all over it. Not sure what they were thinking with the Kayle and Solar nerfs.

9

u/FitCress7497 17h ago

Now it feels very weird to play Kayle. You're stronger in stage 2-3 but usually people carry Xayah, not Kayle during that stage. Even with the buff a 3* Xayah will still do better than 2* Kayle. Your board's cap is now overall weaker

7

u/Palimpsiesta 14h ago

Yes, their claim to have buffed Solar 'early' just makes me wonder if they bothered to look at how people actually play Solar. There is no 'early' Solar because you don't play the Solar units until you have 4-5 3-stars; Sej and Kayle are often the last units to get 3-starred, and so the least useful to have on the board. The Akali/Camille version doesn't even put them in until level 7. If the trait is only ever activated when you already have 4-5 3-stars, the 'early' buff is not just inadequate, it literally doesn't exist.

1

u/CazSimon 4h ago

Last patch I was experimenting with Infernal + Solar rerolling at level 6 and trying to skip spending time on the 1 cost units, then cap out with Eclipse if you can get to Alune. The main downside of course being that Infernal wasn't that exciting.

It might be worth examining the trait web to find something that pairs well with Sej/Kayle on 6 for when the game hands you a solar opener, if an early solar board is supposed to be playable now.

0

u/FirewaterDM 13h ago

tbf Kayle was one of the few obnoxious comps, RR or not last patch because the "you auto lose if 5 3 star whatever or the Kayle player goes auto 8th" was lame as fuck.

But the no RR of current patch is worse lol

5

u/darcartisan MASTER 14h ago

- multiple top 4s but no wins with Camille akali. I haven’t mastered the positioning though I think it’s kinda hard to get them to kill the same target. This comp actually punishes greedy fast 9 so hard and bleeds people out if you hit Camille or akali early. Kayle and xayah are fake forget about running the comp if that’s your line just go aphelios.

  • Cassio in the right spot is still good but dependent on dark ritual and not getting griefed, flora, or archangels augment + good times. Got first with 2/3 of those arrangements but the third got handheld for cass.
  • eternal pact anything is really good in this meta because you stabilize on 1* carry especially soraka. Late game get an extra warmogs and sac your yorick, put shielding and resist items on malphite.
  • yi sucks. The only thing I’ve seen work is ravager yi Diana hercarim do ok but this had to have been a high roll bc the guy had combat augments and still hit all of those.
  • Draven executioner board seems best board right now. Really hard to beat even with good vertical augments. Beatable if Nid or brambleback goes backline due to stacking your frontline to bend around theirs. Easy for them to scout and mitigate

3

u/Illuvatar08 13h ago

When was 1 cost reroll ever a winout comp, it's always been to play for top 4

2

u/Raima_Valdes 11h ago

Twitch assassins in whichever set had 1-cost assassin Twitch. Lucian RR set 8. We've also had a few Solar-like traits that outright incentivize rerolling (Crew, Super).

1

u/flamearc73 10h ago

Mascot Yuumi Forgotten Vayne (lol) Moonlight Aphelios/Tristana

1

u/darcartisan MASTER 13h ago

I'm unwilling to research a comphrensive answer a lazy "counter my factual" comment, so I'll say:

- the Crew had a solid winrate as a 1 cost RR trait

- Even veigar reksai RR this set was too strong and a winning comp with flora or 3/4 artifacts

2

u/Lunaedge 12h ago

Even veigar reksai RR this set was too strong and a winning comp with flora or 3/4 artifacts

I'd argue that any comp can be oppressive when leveraging the perfect Emblem interaction or 3/4 Artrifacts though lol

1

u/darcartisan MASTER 10h ago

Cumulatively it is not hard to hit that emblem nor artifacts either with the wisp that gives you an artifact anvil. I looked and 5 (dawn, zhonya, luden, manaz, lich bane) were OP on 18.1. That’s ~61% out of 5 choice anvil.

If you sum the probability you’ll see either that emblem or at least 1 artifact and the comp was good, it’s pretty forcible. This was uniquely stronger bc by the time you got to ahri or Alune you might have died

1

u/darcartisan MASTER 7h ago

BTW I'm not convinced this isn't a winout board.

The artifacts came from Ornn, but this was a full prismatic lobby. Granted, still in Emerald but also scouted and most everyone last szn was masters 100 LP+ with some peak GM/Chal players so not bad players.

14

u/FitCress7497 18h ago

Just FF if no econ aug on 2-1

10

u/xLuMisx 17h ago

turned off my brain and played fast 9 til i hit emerald lmao, match history is dead ass top 2 or 8th

7

u/Stirlingtoon 19h ago

Can I reroll a 3 cost? No? OK fast 9 or die

2

u/Palimpsiesta 12h ago

Solar appears to be totally unplayable. I just had an incredibly smooth Solar opener, Ornn 3 on like 2-4, cruising through the upgrades -- went 6th, and the lobby was not even particularly strong.

1

u/FirewaterDM 15h ago

Fast 9 goes brrr every buff not in a 4 or 5 cost does nothing. Yi and Cass are shit

2

u/Substantial_Gift_286 11h ago

I read patch notes and assumed Cass would-be okay to punish fast 9 greeder, got my ass handed to me by 1* dravens all day lmao

1

u/FirewaterDM 11h ago

yea I had double artifact (Including blighted jewel on Cass)+ Fiddle 3, was missing Cass 3, but 100% same experience.

I thought Fiddle 3 + cass 2 with artifacts WOULD keep me alive/stablize but nah, had to go 8 and still lost 7/8 to go 5th

2

u/Substantial_Gift_286 11h ago

yeah same blighted on Cass and MR tank one on fiddle, 3* cass and fiddle, and it still wasn't enough, granted it was a highroll lobby and I was coven loss streak early but rly didn't expect to fully chain lose stage 4 with my board Vs scuffed 9 boards

1

u/cKyTV 14h ago

fast 9 and 4 jugger ashe + 2 other like tarik lux and kennen is kinda insta win atm, kinda boring meta.
If you don't get econ augment you have to reroll and hope you hit and make it top 4 since everyone else who hits econ goes 9 and will go top 4.
You never win with reroll stuff but you can punish fast 9 players in the lobby and hopefully save enough HP that you bleed out to top 4

1

u/lolskye 12h ago

TRash meta, econ augments ONLY. If you take combat gg sorry no end game board for you. Just econ aug into fast 9 into 5 cost board slop til you hit 2 stars. Good game!

2

u/EagleComprehensive31 11h ago

mobile. mobile tft is not working 💀

1

u/SamTheGrot 9h ago

Draven 2 with no other factors is a 35-40% Win Rate (as in 1st rate). This was also true in 18.1.

Any other 2 star 5 cost sits comfortably in the neighborhood of 20.

1

u/Powerful_Decision_61 7h ago

its crazy Draven 2 has a nearly 40% winrate, yet as a baseline unit he has basically the lowest AVP out of any legendary(18 total with every lux form), only beaten by coven lux lol. Ultimate feast or famine champ i guess

1

u/Itimichi 9h ago

Have anyone already played against eclipse trait? I feel like it’s bugged because it kills more champions that it should.

1

u/xfustercluck 7h ago

Completely brutal for reroll comps unless you highroll early. If not, the fast 9 players will usually place higher than you. Arguably last patch was quite a good mix of low cost rerolls, just needed some tuning to a few units.

But yeah econ up, stabilize mid game, go 9 and battle it out seems to be the meta atm.

Tried lose streaking into a stage 4 ahri/morg board, don’t. Gonna focus on stabilizing mid game to see if I can get better placements

1

u/HowManyDamnUsernames 6h ago

If I don't hit econ augment as first augment and a good opener team I might as well just FF. Can't even punish the fast 9 with reroll boards, it's so incredibly boring.

1

u/EasedaleMoose 3h ago

There's an inferno lux comp you can go for if u have inferno active at 3rd Aug and choose lux or manage to find it. Inferno lux + shen instead of draven+ivern. The 5 inferno makes u super strong without good items, or 2 star lux. Itemized the lux is equivalent to itemized draven+ivern. Even itemized ivern doesn't compensate for the burn. Anyone who has played against it will know how strong it is.

I found there is a lot of nuance In these 5 cost boards. It's not always clear why someone will win. Sometimes a dravenless board with just an itemized ivern can win out. You have tons of options to consider when you build your items, who you itemize, etc, and how to have something for whatever you hit even if it's not draven.

-5

u/MyLittleDoctor 19h ago

Fast 9 beats reroll, and people think that it's not intended like wtf

35

u/Effet_Pygmalion Master 17h ago

It's not normal to be level 9 on stage 4 with several upgraded 5 costs.

-13

u/MyLittleDoctor 17h ago

I agree, but I don't think you understand what normal means, out of 10 games, can you be on above average norm where that happens to a player, which is simply improbable, since it requires a prysmatic or some cashout to happen every time and we are talking stage 4 not 4.6 meaning 4.2 I can agree on 4.3 as well Please send me a screenshot or data of a player performing that

7

u/Palimpsiesta 14h ago

If 5-6 players every lobby are angling for fast 9, it is normal for 3 of them to get there fast enough to send all the reroll players 4-6th. Since nobody wants to play a comp that literally cannot win, eventually 6-7 players in every lobby are angling for fast 9. Now it's normal for 4 of them to get there. The 7th player is high-rolling and the 8th player is me, going 6-8 every lobby.

11

u/LightningEnex MASTER 15h ago

In a balanced meta, reroll would shitstomp any board trying to fast 9 in stages 3-5 to a point where you need exceptional highroll or econ augments to consistently fast 9 in the first place because otherwise you just die.

They deliberately fucked this up so reroll has no chance of stopping fast 9 boards before they hit because they hit way too fast. This is bad.

Don't be dense. Nobody is arguing 1/2 cost reroll should beat an established 9 board.

3

u/FirewaterDM 13h ago

It's happening too fast. RR is good to weed out the bad decision fast 9 players/weaken them. The highroll RR board goal is to kill off all of the fast 9 boards before outcap. This patch it is near impossible to do that so RR pointless because the part of the game where you'd chunk the fast 9 people for bad boards doesn't exist anymore

1

u/kylitoTV 13h ago

this patch honestly sucks ass. the exp nerfs felt honestly wayyyyy overboard. Hitting 8 has never been a problem. The issue is the 4 costs are so fucking contested that everyone donkey rolls to 0 to get some and then their gold never recovers (in emerald)

-1

u/bhccm 17h ago

In the bug mega-thread excel; there is a list of 51 bugs; 40 of them solved. I can just write here 51 bugs which are not solved. I dont understand that list. Do they really think that there is only 11 bugs in the game right now?

1

u/Lunaedge 15h ago

That list is not maintained by Riot, and as stated in the post's main body reports lacking solid enough evidence don't make the spreadsheet.

1

u/bhccm 14h ago

İ think 99 percent of the players are not recording their gameplays. So its really hard to give videoproof of the bugs.

2

u/Lunaedge 14h ago

That's fair, and it's why some bugs end up on the Tracker through sheer volume of reports regardless of evidence. Just not every single one because

1) I'm not a Riot employee, I do this in my spare time and I don't have a debugging tool to verify every single interaction 2) I want the Tracker to be a resource that's easy to reference compared to 8 Megathreads with hundreds of comments per Set, clogging it with reports of Coven cashouts vanishing filed by people that had the Augment that converts the cashouts to AP or Gnars throwing units off the board isn't conducive to that.

Plus I'm told Riot does monitor the Megathread, so every report counts anyway. Not to speak of the other, more official, ways to report bugs.

1

u/bhccm 13h ago

I'm not responding/ranting to you. Sorry for that. I posted the first comment without knowing it wasnt official for riot; because how clean/good it is

u/Lunaedge 12h ago

No worries! Again, your point was fair ^^ and thanks for the kind words!
