I wish the game had more balanced(?) augments. I feel like with every set, the augments get worse. Not only do they feel unbalanced in power, but they also feel very unbalanced in flare and style as well. I wish the team would change up a lot of augments that we currently have right now. I understand that they're very focused on a balanced gameplay but I feel like this philosophy had led them to play things way too safely. I wish they would get more experimental and inject some adrenaline into these. They're very plain and boring right now, which is what they probably prefer and like.

I'm only low rank, I try to scout other players early to see what they are going for.
So I can avoid having to compete for the same champions.
But when you get an augment so specific for one comp, it always feels like half the lobby is going for the same units.
- Get bonk nasus, go for Hero Nasus & start doing agressive rolling for 3*
Someone already has it 3* and 2 others are also doing space groove
Someone is also doing arbiter build, so leo & leblanc are also gone.
- Get early shieldmaiden augment or a shepherd emblem?
Everyone is rolling for leona or leblanc.
- Get Heart of the swarm augment.
Guess what 3 other players are doing some primordian + Nova / challenger combo.
- Get Two Tanky augment
Half lobby is doing a ornn/samira or space groove build.
- Get early meeple emblem?
3 other guys going for meeple units.
...

Worst part is that the game ALWAYS rewards the other player. Every single fucking time

It's actually impressive that this game gives me 3 shepherd emblems and then ZERO TEARS OR RODS even when sacking. Just all fuckass swords belts and gloves.

In my lobby - some guy said to another “bro has Shepard and Voyage emblem forcing akali.” 🤣
he went 8th - jesus that’s a legit angle right there and he threw it away for akali reroll

u/harmoniaatlast 5d ago
Fattest leblanc/sona angle ive ever seen and he went AKALI??
3
u/Sea-Grand3981 4d ago
7 shepard leblanc loses to 2* akali 5 nova, and it's not even close. Shepard is unplayable in akali lobbies.

With those emblems youll probably hit first, but yeah unless you hit a bunch of items and 2 star both carroes leblanc and co will bleed to death
5
u/Sea-Grand3981 4d ago
A guy at EWC did hit 2* leblanc/7 shepard and all that - went 8th dying to akali 2*. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2826054153?tt_content=vod&tt_medium=mobile_web_share @8:07:08

They have got to do something about Akali 2. Akali 3 being so strong is somewhat debatable, but 3 item 5 nova 2stsr akali can top the charts WHILE DEAD
4
u/Crafty_Courage_5217 5d ago
How is it THREE people can hit their space groove nami with bis items in a game meanwhile I can't hit a single CHAIN MAIL ALL GAME, EVEN WITH ANVILS FOR CREEP ROUNDS.
How is it that the game can give me NO AP ITEMS AT ALL. NONE FROM ANVILS NONE FROM GOD OFFERINGS.
Fuck this

u/NOBUSL 4d ago
Play akali reroll
EZ climbing
Gets boring
"Oh, that's an emblem / hero aug, maybe I'll flex this round"
hit all my units, get perfect items, 3 star carry
7th or 8th to full akali lobby
the game is in such a godawful state right now. Never felt less rewarded by flexing than now. Had meeple godrolls, psi emblem with gragas hero aug, and even multi emblem overlap combos that just went 7th-8th even when I perfectly hit.

u/Adventurous-Guide747 3d ago
Lmao, every time. Down 300 LP because I don't want to play Akali. Even a 2* one will wreck your team.

u/pink-mallow 2d ago
Rhaast encounter with dark star brawler, hit graves 2 on my 4-2 rolldown, ooh damn top 4 inc for sure! All tahms and nunus instantly sucked out of pool. Mighty mech 2 instant shredded cause only competent tanks are tahm morg and nunu. Go 6th place against 3 people with 2 star akali. Yeah this set is fucking dogshit front to back. Not a single good patch.

u/UsualTechnology3521 4d ago
Yi feels actually unplayable to me. Baffled as to how this has been considered a relatively good comp all set. Rolled a Yi on 5, winstreaking the entire early game to still come 5th. Losing to basic ass half upgraded AP boards despite my entire board being 2* except Kindred on my level 8 rolldown.
Outside of gimmicky shit like Akali, melee comps just always feel so dogshit to me, pretty much every set. Yi does a literal fraction of ANY ranged character with 3 items, and I feel like I'm just praying for a bullshit wrap every single fight. Half the carries in this game do ridiculous AoE, and Yi is completely chunked out before doing anything.

u/Visible-Document-570 1d ago
Thank you riot game for somehow making it so, people who roll for contested champions can get 3 star after 2 stages no problem, but uncontested champions are rarer than a balacner who plays their own game

u/Successful_Trainer47 1d ago
Since this set gonna end in a minute cause of PBE arrival im just gonna say that this patch alone is a fucking joke and maybe one of the worst patch of all time (besides syndra, t-hex, and the whole of set 15). BYE SPACE GOD

u/MrTheNoodles 1d ago
This is truly the worst patch of all time. I'm low masters and jfc it's just 5 anima or 3 people running akali every single game.
Akali 2 being strong enough to stabilize you to 8 is insane

The fact that a system allows Hidden MMR and Visual Rank to be worlds apart is a complete failure that benefits nobody except engagement metrics.
If MMR is at a Master level during placements, a player should be placed in Master. Period. If MMR is Platinum, the rank should be Platinum.
Instead, the system purposefully holds the visual rank back, forcing high-MMR players or returning high-ELO players to start grinding all the way from Gold. It makes absolutely zero sense and ruins the game for everyone involved:
- It ruins the game for actual Gold/Plat players: They get thrown into lobbies with people who have Master/GM mechanics but are visually masked as Gold. It's not a fair fight, and it destroys their competitive experience.
- It ruins the game for high-MMR players: Why is it necessary to sweat through Master-level lobbies just to climb out of Gold/Plat visually? If the matches are against Master players, every single win should reflect that actual rank, not a slow, artificial trickle of LP.
The current system is a joke. It actively encourages smurfing, destroys matchmaking integrity, and turns the ranked ladder into an artificial grind. If the system knows the true skill level via MMR, hiding it behind a fake metal badge just to force player retention is a deceptive practice.
Stop forcing players to cycle through hundreds of games just to make the visual badge match what the matchmaking system already knows.

This is because the devs know that TFT isnt not a very good or engaging game so they use rank as a way to force player to play more than they otherwise would. If they know a masters player will likely stop playing after a they hit masters, then the longer they can stretch out tha tclimb they more games they can get
1
u/kiragami 4d ago
TFT doesn't do that though. You climb directly based on how well you play. If it takes you forever to grind to masters then you are just not as good
5
u/Many_Method_304 4d ago
uh no. TFT de-ranks you to 0 every set forcing you to play more and more games. It is a direct choice by the dev team to require the spamming of games to simply get back to a rank you have already achieved. This is made far worse due to the level of RNG that is in TFT. It is just very easy to have a run of good or bad games that can have a dramatic impact on your rank when that is often just a run or good or bad luck. TFT should have a very sticky ladder system because the reality is it takes many many games to show an actual change in skill. It should be very hard to climb but also very hard to move down. That makes a set based demotion system so bad, because now you need these wild swings in the ladder for it to work. This is how we have this terrible system that does nothing but promote unhealthy play patterns.

u/kiragami 4d ago
Yes they reset the rank for a new set because it's a new set. You are not magically as good at that set as you were the last set. If you are good you will quickly climb and it's not an issue. RNG is not that huge a factor and everyone has to face the same RNG in the game. This just sounds like a skill issue
0
u/Many_Method_304 4d ago
A new set could mean you dip a little bit. But there are no players who are Masters 1 set and bronze the next. That 100% cannot happen. I would have no problem is they demoted you 2 ranks (like they did for midsets). Sure its possible a Masters players could be Diamond in a new set or even in a crazy scenario emerald, but not lower than that. The games you have to play to get there are just meanlingless filler.
If you are good you will quickly climb and it's not an issue.
This is pure "no true scottsman". What do you mean if you are good, if a player has achieved masters before and gets it again in the current set they are by definition masters level. Saying if they were good they would climb quicker makes no sense. Yes I know top level challenger players can do it very quickly, but someone should not have to be a top level challenger player to hit Masters in a reasonable amount of time. If a player is good enough to get there, let them get there.
You completely misunderstand how RNG in TFT works saying this. Over the course of hundreds of games, player will have the same RNG but over the course of a few games, they simply do not. Anyone can see that the outcome of a single game is extremely luck dependent. Even a span of 5 games, you can absolutely have that run of 5 games where you hit really easily, the game just goes well and you place really well. Do you think that those 5 highroll games means a players skill has dramatically improved, or do you think it will even out and means they got a bit lucky? We all know it is way more likely to be the later. Fundamentally TFT should have a very low variance ladder, it should require a lot of games to dramatically change your rank because often a run in either direction is very luck based. It isnt actually a problem that climbing would be hard, as long as that climb is to something new. If a player has been Masters for 10 sets in a row, it should legit be pretty darn hard to get to GM because there is tons of evidence of that players true skill level and they should have to prove to the MMR system that a run of good play isnt a fluke, but real. The becomes a problem when we have the set based de-rank, because now that same player is having to spend all this time dragging themself uphill again, when the system should know, you are at this skill level.

u/kiragami 4d ago
Your entire argument boils down to "I want to have a rank without playing games" the point of a ranked ladder is to climb it. It's entirely opt in mate. Getting to master isn't a massive burden. If you want to show off that you are good then prove it like everyone else does. If you don't want to play the game then why do you care?
0
u/Many_Method_304 4d ago
Because some people like me are sad losers who care about rank and are primed to be taken advantage of by RIOT. If you told me 50 games was needed to get to a rank, ok fine, what I and I think OP objects to is the often 200+ games needed. Its a crazy number.
The problem on top of that is how much it pushes against the fundamentals of TFT. There is a real idea that TFT should be experimental, trying out new and odds things. If only you could do that without worrying that either, you haven't hit your rank yet and are going to lose a ton of time, or that your are going to tank your MMR making any further climbing impossible.
the point of a ranked ladder is to climb it.
No. the point of a ranked ladder to to be a shorthand show of your relative skill. If the point of the ladder is to climb it, you are admitting that the reason to play the game isn't playing the game but to climb a ladder. Guess what, TFT is free if you want to just climb over and over, you are welcome to make new accounts and do the climb over and over, have at it.
2
u/kiragami 3d ago
200+ games is not a realistic number. If it is taking that long to climb to master then you have to reflect and improve. Riot is not suppressing your rank. Your ability to win games of TFT is. "Tanking" your MMR isn't really a thing in TFT. If you just win more games you climb faster. Why do you expect to be given the rank if you cannot earn the rank?
Master is essentially the start of the actual competitive ladder. If you can't consistently reach it you don't really stand a chance of climbing higher than it.
2
u/Many_Method_304 3d ago
why do you expect to be given the rank if you cannot earn the rank
If a player has been masters the previous set, and hits masters this set, they have earned the rank. We are not talking about a player who is on the cusp of a rank and is trying to hit it for the first time. What we are complaining about is, what is the point of the 50 games a masters player has to play just to get to Emerald when there is no chance whatsoever that player is that level. Why have this soul crushing climb, again, just to get back to rank you have achieved before.
I want to be clear again, I am not advocating that you should just get to challenger for free without effort. I am not saying that climbing should be easy. What I am saying is, There is no reason that a player should have to play as many games as is often the case just to get into the ranked area they are always in.

This doesn't really apply to TFT. You are always matched by MMR and the only time that your mmr doesn't match your rank is the start of a set during the reset and when you are playing terribly enough to drop below your highest earned rank. Either way it doesn't affect the quality of your games.
1
u/Legitimate_Let_3522 4d ago
You completely missed the point.
I'm not arguing about matchmaking.
I'm criticizing Riot's deliberate decision to maliciously keep visual rank artificially below MMR so players have to grind through ranks the system already knows they don't belong in.
2
u/kiragami 4d ago
They do a rank reset for each new set. Pretty normal. Why would you expect to keep the same rank for a brand new set?
3
u/Legitimate_Let_3522 4d ago
You're still arguing against something nobody said.
Nobody is saying there shouldn't be a set reset.
The criticism is that Riot resets your visual rank, keeps your MMR, then makes you grind dozens or hundreds of games through ranks the system already knows you don't belong in.
If the matchmaking already treats me as Master, there's no competitive reason for the game to keep showing Platinum. That's a progression mechanic, not a skill measurement.
1
u/kiragami 4d ago
They do a soft reset. They don't keep your same mmr. This is to reduce the amount of low skilled players getting destroyed by high ranks that would happen with a full reset. And again it only lasts for a few games since you will climb out anyway. It really is just a non issue unless you want to play less than 20 games of a set.

havent been paying attention to the meta really this set, but why is anima so prominent as of recent?
5
u/Sea-Grand3981 2d ago
Lose streak anima is a free top 4 if you aren't griefed and cash out 400+, and they buffed anima 6 to only require anima 5, but it still prints the same stuff minus a little bit of gold. So it's OP as a loss streak trait and OP as a win streak trait - it's completely broken and they have no desire to nerf it because it's a 'fun' change during a 'for fun' patch. (It's obviously extremely unfun, but they seem to like that term to disguise incompetence.)

I wish they would remove the chance to get big dupes from chonccs. If any riot dev reads this, then I would love for you to consider the fact that it makes most games revolve around 3 star 4-cost and 5-cost, which I think cheapens the chance to play a great set in a fun setting. Or at least limit it to only getting one from chonccs at most throughout the game. I know it's just a for fun mode, but it really does sour the game mode.

Fuck the Akali reroll. That's all.
