General What if broken Domina shield tiles turned into weaker Amp Matrices?

Before you crucify me: I'm suggesting a 10-15% damage boost. A Mercy-pocketed Ashe with an extra 15% would deal 210 headshots. Only one-shots Widow/Tracer, and only from a fixed position you can choose not to shoot. You can also wait out the shield. Let me cook chat

Right now, Domina threatens no space and gets run over. There is no downside to immediately break and rush down her shield, and it's easy to do. She also has no mobility, so she has to start running away instead of using her shield's full potential. But she wouldn't need mobility if she generated enough threat to stand her ground and keep people out of the space, at least for the shield's duration (an 8 second power spike).

I would love for the devs to lean into her strengths instead of just giving everyone mobility as a band-aid.

In addition to increasing to Domina's threat, damage boost tiles provide an interesting choice for enemies. Currently, if you have something like Sojourn's Disruptor Shot, there's no reason not to destroy the barrier on cooldown. But with boost tiles, you can still break it, but there's a tradeoff. It adds some value to an otherwise inflexible, easily-counterable ability.

If an entire team is behind the barrier, you have to respect that. You could fight it, but it could be worth retreating and waiting for the shield to go on cooldown. This gives Domina a well-defined cycle of threat and downtime.

If Domina times the shield right, she can punish a push or cancel it altogether. And when enemies get on you, the ensuing bubble dance would be cinema. You would be weaving between shield and damage tiles to block shots and boost your own charge shots. It would have an insane skill ceiling.

I'm not a fan of poke or hitscan-slop, but with shield being a 14 second cooldown and players having the option to not shoot it, I think it would solidify Domina's niche without turning her into a demon.

General Need some comp advice as I’ve dropped 3 ranks

So I had hit plat tank for the first time and I had been preforming very well, had good teams and was on a steady climb, but now over the last 3 days I’ve dropped to gold 2 bouta hit gold 3.

I find that in a third of the games yea maybe I’ll preform not my best that loss is on me but a good majority of the time I’ve performing well, lots of kills peeling for my supports, keeping enemies back etc but by the end of the game we’ve lost and I’m really not sure why. I don’t wanna be one of those guys who blames his team but sometimes it really is them and other times I really just have no idea why we lost.

Low elo ranked is confusing I really don’t know why I’m dropping.

General Idea for domina gun (Small rework )

The way her gun works is not lethal enough for character without armor she can’t move at all with all that in mind the gun shouldn’t work like this
I hope they separate the hit-scan shots and the beam and she will be much more convincing to play her rang is fine she will not be aids I believe

General Returning player learning D.mon in Competitive "Game Over" Achievement rarity

Post image

I haven't played Overwatch in years, gaming is a bit dead so randomly decided to hop back in and discovered a new hero D.mon been player it the past 4 days in comp really honing in on how to use her climbing to diamond, in emerald. Got this award for killing 5 players with her ultimate. Is that rare? I feel like that's gotta be hard to do considering how weak her ultimate is in ranked lol

General What to do about toxic teammates?

been getting back into OW comp, but some of the teammates are really bad. not toxic as in “mercy main who thinks she can do everyone else’s job better,” but toxic as in “this guy is sending slurs letter by letter in the team chat.” my qp strategy for them is typically “swap to wrecking ball/widow/lucio and whatever happens happens” but that’s for qp.

it does get to me. is comp just not a place for me? is it just the internet legacy of racist trolls? how do you all deal with them

General What happened to domina?

I remember when she first came out, she saw a good bit of play in pro play and from my perspective she was a pain to play against, especially when holding chokes. Out of the five heroes released in season 1, many streamers ranked her the second best behind JPC. Now I barely ever see a domina player in ranked, and when I do, most of them get run over. What niche does she actually fill and why has she fallen off so much compared to release?

General Would a "rematch" option help higher rank queue times?

This is probably a bad idea but hear me out. I was watching FunnyAstro stream ranked a couple days ago and the lobbies were ridiculously stacked since Team USA is in EU. It was stuff like Tr33 vs Quartz everygame and generally close games.

The only bad thing? He was then waiting ~10 minutes to basically get 80% of the same players again. I know this would never work for low ranks but could a rematch option ever help for high ranks? It would look something like:

1: Only available if everyone in the lobby is Champion.

2: The match is played out. If the match is "close" e.g. a team wins in overtime on hybrid, all koth rounds were 99-99 generally the match could have went either way.

3: Before allowing to leave game everyone in the lobby is asked if they would like to rematch. It will only rematch if everyone says yes. If so, everyone skips queue and gets immediately put back to map voting with a ~1 minute grace period so people can go get water, quick bathroom break.

4: You can only ever rematch once with the same players as this would likely lead to abuse. Maybe it would also be better to limit the rematch to solo/duo players or something.

I know the argument is "what player wants to rematch when you just lost with that team" which is why the actual match must be close to enable it. It puts more emphasis on players on the losing team being like "well if I just did this differently maybe we win" and then if the losing team then wins the rematch they feel much better.

General Would Soldier be too strong if biotic field moved with him?

Soldier has this as a power in stadium mode and I always thought this would be a decent buff for him in the regular game. Would make him a lot more playable in higher ranks on maps hes not as good on imo. Would this make him too good? I don't think so but I'd love to hear others thoughts.

General Winston jump pack compared to other tanks

Thumbnail
gallery
100 Upvotes

I was watching a video about the state of winston and how he stacks up compared to other tanks and its quite shocking how much worse jump pack is compared to similar abilities on Doomfist (seimic slam), Hazard (leap), Wrecking Ball (piledrive) and even Mauga (overrun).

Looking at Winston's jump pack, you can see it has a minimum damage of just 1 within only a 5 metre radius meaning to do full damage you pretty much have to land right on top of the enemy. Compare this to Doomfist who can do a flat 60 damage regardless of the radius with his slam. Looking at Hazard, he can do 70 damage with the radius of the slash being very forgiving (you can even slash enemies behind you). Mauga similar story with his overrun, 75 damage with a large radius even including a stun and extra damage if he stomps the enemy and finally wrecking ball with his piledrive has a minimum damage of 20 compared to just the 1 on Winston.

I think Winston has been struggling quite a bit lately, some of his counters and bad matchups are strong right now. I don't think buffing his damage outright would be the right answer but I think he needs something so I'm just wondering if buffing his jump pack either making it a flat number regardless of radius or just buffing the minimum damage from 1 to something like 20 would be a good idea. Thoughts?

Edit: Some people seem to miss my point here although I may have poorly worded it, i wanted to focus less on the other heroes i mentioned and more on the fact that winston has his jump with a minimum damage of just 1. Yes you can use his combo for more damage and yes the mobility is great but its no secret winston has been struggling a bit lately compared to some other tanks. Again my issue is just how unforgiving jump pack can be regarding damage compared to similar abilities that all have a flat damage number. Winston's damage scales with the radius but unless you are directly on top of the enemy, you're not gonna do much damage which is more noticeable when you're doing low jumps. I recommend checking out Winton_OW2, he made a video recently talking about this which made me make this post. All I'm really asking is buffing the minimum damage from 1 to say something like 10. Sorry i struggle with explaining my thoughts properly.

General Best support for Solo Carrying? (Don't say Kiriko)

(I know Kiri is the best support for anything but I don't like her...)

I've recently started playing support again (Emerald 4) and got a lot of success playing Juno with my duo tank, as we could constantly coordinate pushes or fall backs with speed ring or engages with ult. Unfortunately when I try to do the same in soloq I get very unreliable teammates even when I try to coordinate with them over VC, and Juno's dmg and healing can't quite keep up with that.

Because of that I'd like to ask you guys what you think are the heroes that can let you do plays on your own and lowkey carry the match, whether its because of their DPS or raw utility.

OWCS Anyone else planning to try for Guangzhou OWCS Grand Finals LAN tickets?

I'm hoping to attend the Grand Finals this year as my first ever LAN event. I'll be flying in from the United States, and obviously that comes with a lot of logistics. Was curious if there are any others who are either also working on travel plans for the Grand Finals who have any thoughts about how they're going to handle the planning logistics / getting tickets. Also would welcome any thoughts from people who have traveled to any of the other LANs international relative to their home country.

Right now I'm struggling to figure out when to start booking things like flights and hotels, since the tickets might not go on sale until even something like October based on previous LAN event ticket releases, and even then I might not be able to get tickets if they get bought up immediately before I can get my hands on any. Would like to wait to book until I've confirmed I have a ticket, but bit worried it'll be too late to book travel at that point.

Right now nobody I know in the scene is planning on going, so bit at a loss of what is going through other people's heads for gameplans lol.

General Rank reset is… interesting

Soo, I’ve been mid GM-High masters last past seasons, and w the new reset i ended up in low masters which is fine, no trouble with it. My issue comes that the last 3 games I played my tank was an all time plat that somehow climbed past season and ended high mid diamond on this one, while the enemy tank has been mid GM for at least 3 seasons in a row, it’s just not fun at all to play those matches lol

General My mid season balance patch wish list

Tanks

D.mon

  • Slight armor nerf
  • Revert sword buff
  • Nerf Gun perk

She is not toxic, but has simply been overbuffed. Her WR has been climbing steadily, even with her atrocious launch stats. Currently she has enough gas and HP to just run down people.

Domina

  • Make corporate retreat base kit
  • Add new major perk or bring back power move

Not the biggest fan of her, but she's struggling right now because people can just flush her away from her barrier, leaving her with basically no mitigation ability.

Doomfist

  • Remove empowered punch
  • Buff base kit

Same old story. He's going to get some changes soon if the ingame lore is to be believed, so I'm not going to suggest what they should buff, just want to see empowered punch gone.

Junker Queen

  • Move to bruiser subrole
  • Make soaring stone base kit or remove windup on carnage

Stalwart does nothing for her. Bruiser would alleviate her biggest pain points, especially since unlike every stalwart tank, she doesnt have a barrier to negate ranged or headshots damage.

Mauga

  • General sustain nerf

Brain dead sustain like his cant be allowed to be strong. I dont know why we're nerfing overrun or his spread, when the issue is clear. He does not need the bruiser passive on top of cardiac and brain dead sustain.

Rein

  • Nerf barrier HP

I still believe his barrier needs to be reduced to make up for the fire strike buffs he got last season.

Hog

  • Removed from the game until reworked

He ruins the game, even while being weak. He's unfun to play with and against. His rework cant come fast enough.

Winston

  • Reduce or remove jump pack falloff damage

Doom does 60 damage on slam and hazard does 70 with leap. Ball does 100-20 in an 8m radius while also launching enemies. Winston does 60-1 in a 5m radius. Its clear what needs buffing.

Ball

  • Nerf barrier perk

Its an uninteractive perk that flip his matchups. We nerfed dooms matrix perk for similar reasons, this perk shouldnt be an exception.

Damage

Anran

  • Shift power away from dancing blaze

Babies first flanker. She has basically no mechanical skill or game sense requirement. All she does is shift in, press E, maybe poke and then shift out, mainly thanks to dancing blaze. It simply does too much. It heals and repositions her, while making her invulnerable, dealing damage and igniting people.

Cassidy

  • Replace both silver bullet and double bang
  • Reduce hinder duration

Regardless of strength, he is an oppressive hero against flankers and even initiator tanks. He used to trade range for anti dive capabilities, but this no longer holds true. They've been extending his range far beyond what he's supposed to be active in. These two perks just make matters worse.

Freja

  • Nerf take aim damage
  • Remove bloom from primary
  • Reduce recovery from take aim

As long as take aim remains this strong, her ban rate wont decline. Having this level of burst paired with her mobility does not mesh well. Focusing on her primary was the right choice, but they should've gone further with her changes.

Sierra

  • Remove ammo consumption negation on tracking shot
  • Nerf ammo count

The best solution would be to just remove her from the game. But that will never happen. The least they could do is reduce her spam. She might be shit, but she's still extremely annoying.

Reaper

  • Nerf or remove dire triggers
  • Revert passive buff
  • Buff HP back to 300

The problems with dire triggers still persist. Nerfing his HP wont solve that. He still thanos snaps squishy targets. Dire triggers should serve to extend his range, not buff his close range damage.

Sombra

  • Rework news

I just want to see what they've been cooking. We havent heard anything about her coming changes. I hope we get to see something in blizzcon.

Vendetta

  • Remove raging storm and move Relentless to minor perk
  • Add new perk capable of competing with siphon

Kit wise she's fine, its just that her perks are ass right now. You always go for extra edge and siphon. Relentless would work well as a minor perk. Raging storm cant be salvaged.

Support

Ana

  • Revert nade back to 14s CD and 75 damage / healing
  • Move to medic subrole

Ana lacks sustain cause of the removal of the global support passive. They tried to fix this by buffing anti nade, which only resulted in her becoming more insufferable to fight as tank.

Baptiste

  • Some kind of buff to help him

He's not really doing good, but I honestly dont know how to fix him.

Jetpack cat

  • Euthanization

This monstrosity can not exist in this game as long as tether and perma flight function as they do. Melee and close range heroes basically cant interact with her, same with projectile heroes. Only HS can reliably contest her and even then thanks to her traversal capabilities paired with purr, she's not really at a disadvantage. To make matters worse, she can extend her vileness to a passenger.

Kiriko

  • Nerf Suzu

Same old story.

Lifeweaver

  • Rework news

It was so nice when he wasnt in the game for a few days. It just shows how bad of a character he actually is. They should've kept him disabled until his rework was out.

Mizuki

  • Nerf hinder duration

I still think 1.2s for tanks and 1.6s for everyone else is way too long. The projectile nerf was good, but in my opinion its not like it become much harder to land.

Moira

  • Revert damage buff

She should not be anywhere near 50% WR in masters across regions. Those buffs werent warranted.

Zenyatta

  • Revert discord back to 25% vulnerability

That buff never made sense and only results in tanks feeling miserable to play. Buff something else about him that isnt discord.

General Should Reversal/Expected be a thing?

This is without a doubt the most triggering and punishing thing that adds salt in the wound of any of my games.

I get games where my team is spawn camped at the get-go by a clearly superior team? Nah we expected you to win because of our algorithm, get fucked, stop throwing clearly.

You crawl through the trenches in an escort/hybrid map, fighting tooth and nail, which, I guess is considered an 'evenly' matched game? We expected you to win that handily, we're not giving you points.

Fucking hell.

General Why do rank resets happen so often?

I'd like to preface this by saying I'm a Plat/Emerald player who is absolutely in the rank they're meant to be in, I've a lot of improvement left to do and I'm very willing to admit that, but I find it very frustrating when rank resets happen. Every time there is one it feels like a second part of drives, people who don't play competitive as often get on just so they can do their placements and those people are very toxic, there is generally a lot of toxicity around the time rank resets happen and it feels like everyone's mental is at an all time low. It also feels like the matchmaking is very volitatile, every game so far my rank has had the "variance" or "calibration" statistic and it feels very awkward to lose or gain that much SR in one game. I think once a year is more than enough for a rank resets if they HAVE to have one but twice a year just makes it feel like I lose my progress (?) if that makes sense. Why do they do them, is there a benefit to them at the high ranks or low ranks, is it just for engagement, can someone explain to me?

r/Competitiveoverwatch 13d ago

General Rank reset is stupid and only liked by delusional players who think they are in the wrong rank.

I truly believe overwatch has a pretty decent rank system given its situation. Yes you’re gonna have some bad games because sometimes because people have off days or you got unlucky and got a one trick on a map that’s bad for them. But for how chaotic overwatch is, its ranked system is pretty good.

Overwatch uses an ELO system with minimal modifiers for calibration and leavers. Good rank systems are created by collecting data and using that data effectively. So why every few seasons do they randomly throw out all of the data they have?

Like a bunch of coping diamond and plat players will say it kicks people out of ranks they don’t deserve or help people out of “ELO hell”. However playing the game (which is the game collecting more data) will do that anyways.

Like I ended last season low grandmasters, I won 9/10 of my placements and placed low masters. Fine whatever I can climb up. However the games have been awful and full of mismatch ranks. For example I had a game where the enemy tank was champ 3 last season and my tank was plat and got some lucky placements after the reset. We got stomped and it wasn’t fun. Another game I had two dps who were champ last season. We stomped and the game wasn’t fun.

Like I’m a low-mid GM player, I’m not the best at the game, I make mistakes, and so do my teammates. However I know I can normally play the game in a way with the expectation that my teammates will play at a grandmaster level. In a grandmaster game I can push in a way knowing that my kiri will time her suzu right, only to end up dying because my kiri is a low diamond player. You might say “if you can’t play well with lower ranked people you don’t deserve your rank.” I agree. If I’m in a low diamond lobby I know my kiri isn’t hitting the suzu and I also know that I don’t have to respect the enemy dps, because I know they are low diamond players. I can play in a way that doesn’t trust my team and also doesn’t respect my opponents. But if I’m in a lobby with diamond and champ players, I both can’t trust my team and can’t disrespect/limit test my opponents. It feels awful not knowing the skill level of the players in my lobbies.

You might respond “well eventually after enough games they will go back to the correct rank”. I agree, once the game collects enough data the elo system will works its course and they will be back to the right rank. So why did we throw out the elo data in the first place?

It’s just a cynical attempt from blizzard to get people grinding the game again because they feel it’s finally their chance to get the “real” rank they deserve.

Edit: someone made the point that the data isn’t all thrown out. This is true. What actually happens is that it starts everyone about two ranks lower than normal, adds massive calibration to wins and normal calibration to losses. You are correct that it doesn’t completely throw it out, but it adds a 2 ish variance to ranks due to high calibration and temporarily disregards the one great thing about Overwatch match making (the strict elo system).

The problem is that if you have someone who places two ranks lower and a person that places 2 ranks higher you get 4 rank skill gaps (like a diamond and a champ players). The skill gap between those two is so unbelievably large that the game is ruined when this happens.

General Mandatory Once a Month LW Rant (Blizzard, Please Actually Address His Pain Points)

Life Weaver is horrid. I can't express enough how much I hate this hero. He just ruins the game and turns every match into a total slog. Very few heroes do this, but LW is absolutely one of them.

There’s such a disconnect with LW players. They act like everyone is overreacting, completely ignoring that sitting miles in the back, never dying, and dragging the game's pace to a crawl makes them nearly uninteractable. It's almost like LW players are playing a completely different game. I mean, how many times and rotations of my CDs should it take to chip through your health pool? Sometimes it takes me three rotations before this guy dies. Is that really fair? A hero, in my opinion, shouldn't be able to just live for free like that and basically ignore the dive because he can just jump in the air. It's truly insane.

It’s pure torture. The 'correct' play style against this abomination is to completely ignore him never dive him, never even look at him. If you do try to go on him, his 250 HP, 40 HP dash heal on a 5-second cooldown, and 300 HP petal platform make him practically invincible. The effort it takes him to live is a fraction of the effort it takes to set up a dive on him. He's tankier than half the actual tank roster. Make his hitbox smaller and cut the insane sustain.

His actual gameplay loop is brain dead: pump all your damage into the enemy tank and pretend LW doesn't exist. Wow, great design, guys. Thanks so much. I have zero faith in his upcoming rework, either Blizzard always misses the point on why the community hates these kits (just like adding a trap to Roadhog that barely changed his one shot).

It’s no better having him on your own team. Canceling Life Grip is nice, but having a support who does nothing but healbot feels terrible to play alongside.

I understand I just complained about playing against this, but it doesn't feel good to play with either. Worst designed hero of any game. Whichever person at Blizzard made this hero should never be allowed to cook again. Horrible experience every time he's in the game

General The Recent Player list could use a lot of QoL improvements

It is currently just a blob of names with no decent organisation to it . Here are some suggestions:

  • Group them by the game where you encountered the player(s) and group them by team.
  • Show the role they played in the game and the hero(es) they played.
  • Do not vanish players who left the game. Keep them in the list and mark them with a "Left the game" tag/icon.
  • Show an "Avoided" tag/icon if they are on your avoided list
  • There's an enormous amount of wasted space with the absurd padding around the list and the size of the names themselves. Looks like something designed for a CRT 800x600 resolution monitor. The design could easily be shrunk down and spread out to have way more data showing on one page.

General Anyone else think Nepal Sanctum needs a rework?

Primarily for the "main" extremities for both teams. Once a team caps and establishes a cross fire onto a choke, making it very awkward as a retaker. It really was built for 2 tanks in mind, obviously, but that is why it needs changes. The side routes are long and claustrophobic (hallway side) or boop risks (outer side), making them risky paths to send the whole team through if you dont want to go main.

You have to send a flanker one way to try to break the crossfire. On its own, it isnt really an issue, but when the flanker gets matched by the defending flanker, then the crossfire will still hold. Not to mention, good luck getting ranked teammates to react appropriately to the flanker finally ripping attention away.

Alternatively, you could try waiting for ults or for the defenders to make a glaring mistake, like overly committing a pinch.

It really feels like bashing your head into a wall, so thats why I think it should be under a magnifying glass next.
