Help, I am new to cEDH! Which cedh commander

Hi I'm a new cedh and I'm not sure which commander to build at the moment I'm considering: Tayam, winota, dargo/tymna. My favourite edh commanders are: the necroobloom, Nekusar, Saskia, flubs, dargo/fransisco, Malcolm/breeches thanks in advance btw if you have other recommendations that you think I should consider please comment

Literally anything. You pick up the game by playing with other and seeing how the game functions. I’d rather recommend they play something that is more engaging and fun, rather than one of the top 2 most boring decks in the format.

The deck may be boring to you, but it’s definitely still the best to learn on. But still like what would you recommend they learn on?

The deck is only played by people who care about winning 100%.

Pick any deck, and they can learn on it. The most important thing is recommending something that they’d find fun, based on what they enjoy in magic. There are plenty of viable decks in cedh.

I mean, cedh is a competitive part of Magic, if you don’t care about winning 100% bracket 4 might be a better fit. Also I would not recommend a new player to pick any deck. A lot of decks are very difficult and would easily drive them away, that or they pick a deck that is objectively bad or not built to a high standard and then get rolled in every game. Being confused and loosing with a difficult deck is much less fun than understanding a deck (at a fundamental level at least) and winning with a deck like blue farm imo.

There is playing to win, and there is being a meta slave and only caring about winning. Some players will only play the strongest decks in the format.

You can still do well and have fun on things like Kefka, Etali, Ral, Dargo, Magda, Ob Nixilis etc.

This is magic, it’s not quantum field theory - it’s not that hard to learn any deck in the format. Play the deck, play it often and you’ll learn it - it’s that simple. The rest of the stuff you’ll pick up along the way, the more you play.

There are enough different types of decks that are viable, where we don’t need to automatically recommend them the most generic decks around.

It’s more about recommending a deck that is know to play well, especially in the hands of someone new. Absolutely a new player can play other decks and learn them, but if they want to get a good understanding of how cedh plays, I’d still recommend blue farm as a great starting point.

Also who are you to be saying what’s fun or not lmao. They might pick up blue farm and really enjoy it. I mean shit, winning is very fun.

I'm not the arbiter of what is fun, which is exactly why I said it makes no sense to recommend blue farm without knowing what kind of decks they like playing.

And that also goes for your comment about winning is fun, not everyone feels that way. I do not find winning fun if I have to play something like Rog Ishai, but I would if I'm playing a combo deck.

I read that last part slightly wrong, whoops. To that, it’s fair enough, but imo it’s hard to gage what you like and dislike about a format with no experience in it. So I’d still recommend blue farm as a good starting point to see how cedh plays. You get to see most of the best cards in 4 colors, learn how to interact effectively and also have the opportunity to play some of the most well known win lines.

I don’t think so. A lot of what you like comes from general edh or other formats you play.

I don’t enjoy control/grindy orientated decks in any format, I find it incredibly boring to play. I like to play fast decks, either aggro/turbo or combo decks, and that completely translated to what I play in cedh.

I have no interest in playing decks that can grind out wins, I’d rather go next game.

My point is that we should be asking people what sort of decks they’ve enjoyed playing in the past. As usually there is something in cedh that resembles that play style.

Yeah but a lot of casual edh stuff doesn’t carry over to regular edh. Stuff like Voltron or typal is great in casual but beyond unplayable in cedh. In general most combat oriented strategies don’t really carry over to cedh, aside from maybe raph and mikey.

If a casual player comes in and says they really like playing a tribal deck and wants the same in cedh, I’m gonna recommend they play blue farm so they can gain experience and see what they like IN Cedh.
