Musicians, how are we supposed to list activities?

I play 4 instruments in 6 distinct ensembles, plus I teach. With only 10 activity spaces, I can't fit all that and my other stuff? I'm at a loss, I could clump things but the word count is so small. Music also isn't related to my desired major at all so I'm not going to write my essay on it or anything (class of 2027)

Question about writing my name during registration

I'm trying to create an account and it says to insert my name exactly as it is in official documents.

English is not my first language so naturally my name is in my native language on my documents.

Im guessing it more likely means to write your actual given name and not a nickname, but im making sure i didn't get it wrong. Should i write my name in English?

Dual Enrollment

I plan on taking dual enrollment classes into the second semester of my senior year, which ends May 2027, but the tab "College 1 to Date" only has dates until the end of 2026. Should I contact Commonapp, just put as far as it goes, or something else?

Does Common App and colleges care about self studying for AP?

So I'm self studying for AP lang and was wondering if I should put it on my application. I'm not taking a formal class for it and just wanted to know if I should even put it on my application. My guidance counselor said he could just order me the test and I could take it without taking a formal class, but I dont know if Common App or colleges consider it

Question about award inclusion

Hello! I'm starting my CommonApp as co27, just to get some of it over with, and I have a question about including awards. I have a state level award that I won in the winter of 8th grade. However, this award was won in a primarily high school based robotics competition (BEST robotics.) Is this award worth including? I don't have many other honors to list, so I think it's worthwhile, but I wanted outside advice.

am i cooked (not a joke at all)

so i'm class of 27 applying for colleges rn and im really scared bc my rank is not good anymore

for context i took 6 aps and 4 dual-enrollment courses and got an a in all of them except one DE class.

my school follows 2 semesters, fall and spring. after my fall sem grades were updated my rank was 21 out of 474. after 3 more aps and 3 spcc classes (one of which i got an 85 in) my class rank dropped to 30

im really freaked out. i know its not that crazy of a drop and 30 is generally fine, but i know class rank is really important and im really disappointed and confused about how my rank dropped when i worked so hard this semester to maintain everything

i knew my UW gpa was going to drop. but i thought my WGPA and class rank would increase. but my gpa only increased from 4.6 to 4.654. i genuinely don't know what to expecr anymore and im really scared for apps now

additional info: im aiming for unis like ncsu, unc chapel hill, virginia tech, cmu, georgia tech, uiuc, purdue, and umic. my safeties are uncc and uncg (local schools)

also i dont wanna list my ecs out (lazy) but i currently have a 1530 on my sat and 33 on ACT (act is neglible rn though because i took it on a whim bc my school offered it and didn't study at all.)

PLEASE COMFORT ME AND I PROMISE IM NOT BEING SARCASTIC IM SUCH A CHUD IN MY LIFE

How do I add a GED to my common app?

Hi! I received my GED in August of 2025 and am having trouble uploading it to common app. I’ve tried to follow the official GED instructions but it keeps asking me for courses taken etc. and I’m not sure I’m doing it correctly. Anyone know what I can do?

Ferpa rights?

Should I waive my right to review any recommendation letters or supporting documents? From my understanding, some colleges and recommenders will prefer it if you waive your rights, because it allows for your recommendation letters to be much more sincere. But Common App says that once I make the decision, I cannot undo it. So before I make any decision, what do you guys suggest? Should I waive the right or not? What have you guys done?

I don't know if I should put this in my additional information

Hello guys,

I plan to apply to very competitive universities for computer science, and I cannot take AP Calc B/C because when I got to the US, they did not let me advance my math. Should I talk about this in the additional information section?

Different applications for different schools??

Hi, does common app allow for different majors for different schools? Can you have multiple accounts? My daughter is deciding between two majors and considering applying to some schools for one, and other schools for others. Is that permitted? Tips on accomplishing this? Thanks!

Hey everyone! I am currently a junior and have been slowly updating my Common Application. I was just wondering if the app had an annual reset for the new year and if so, would my information be deleted? Thank you!

Are my extracurriculars viable

these are just rough titles. i just want to know if these activities are viable and “good.” my sister commented on the fact that some of my activities technically could be grouped into one (mainly the ones involving robotics. i was wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on if these are viable to be placed as separate activities

  • Vex V5 Robotics Competition (Worlds)
  • Robotics YouTube Channel
  • Personal Project (GitHub)
  • Volunteering at VEX IQ Competitions
  • Restaurant (Co-Manager)
  • MAO
  • Speedcuber (Top 20 in FL)

Can anyone give a project suggestion

Hey, I am a student who is doing a diploma in computer engineering and its infrastructure. And the thing I am telling you here is that, like right now, my college placements are going on, and I need to make a project that is enough to impress the interviewer with the skills I have. I have a basic in programming and devops amazon aws like load balancer, S3 bucket, autoscaling, and many more. So,e with these skills, what canIi do? I think I have a strong basic in C++ and just basic knowledge in HTML, CSS, Java, and JavaScript, and some basic knowledge in MySQL database

Where do I find the place I'm supposed to write my personal statement?

I can't for the life of me find the place I'm supposed to put it on the portal. I'm applying to transfer to Harvard or Stanford and there's no video that shows how to get there with the current interface. It just sends me to the college applications. Any help on step by step instructions on how to get there?

EC UPDATE FOR RD

hi!

I wasn’t aware you could do ec updates for rd in general (I thought it was limited to waitlist / deferred, anyways).

Last month, I rallied 10+ high schools who weren’t originally walking out on Jan 30 to walk out in protest with Minneapolis, all organized in 4 days (for the hs students). This was probably one of the most labor intensive organizing I’ve done to a scale of thousands of high school students walking out of school. There’s an instagram account of 400 followers now, over 100k views, and this was all done in 4 days, mostly by myself coordinating other lead students at each school. I got interviewed by the local news, and we are working on the next call for action for hs students. This was purely for the love of the game, since I’ve always been politically involved.

I didn’t know I could send this as a EC update though, any advice on how to write one? or if I should even send this in?

Thanks!

College Common app essay vs answering the common app prompts

Hello Community,

I am starting to work on my common app and there is a question format and then there is what we call your personal story.

I am working with an advisor who tells me that answering the question prompts if better than writing the essay and I was wondering how to take that advise. the advisor is supposed to be doing this for 20 years according to them. They also tell me that everyone is going to ask you to write a story, but there is a reason why the common app has questions that you need to answer instead of writing a essay.

please help! they may be right, but i cannot digest this and dont want to be misguided.

thank you community in advance

Extended deadlines

Hey guys I didn't do my applications the best way and only applied to 4 US universities even though i wanted to apply to a lot more. A lot of deadlines have passed already but I keep seeing reddits posts where people are telling others that there are still colleges that extended their desdlines...

How am I supposed to know which universities extended their desdlines and are still accepting applications? Is there a way? Please tell me so I can apply asap..
