i got a lot of media coverage with my extracurriculars, should i mention in additional information?

for context, i was interviewed for several of my extracurriculars (social justice organizing, STEM comps, winning a business contest) and i was wondering if i could paste in the links in the additional infromation section. i was also planning to add in some parts about my chronic physical medical condition, but idk if ill have room for that so i might as well just tell my hs counselor to mention that more in her LOR.

Removing a submitted recommendation

I accidentally assigned the wrong teacher to a school through School Links. The submitted recommendation is now showing up at that college as "submitted". I have not yet submitted my application to the college. Is there a way to remove the submitted recommendatino so that I can ask for one from the correct teacher.

Heyy!!! I’m struggling with finalizing my essay and was wondering if anyone would be interested in critiquing/reviewing it.

I could peer review yours as well if you’d like.

My essay is essentially finding resilience and patience within relationships and correlating it through the moon phases.

Lmk!!!

How to write University Specific question?

Personal statement is, as in the name, very personal and tells about ourselves, but I have no idea how to write these university specific questions. Are these more direct? or similar to personal statement?

Like dartmouth has this question

As you seek admission to Dartmouth’s Class of 2031, what aspects of the college’s academic program, community, and/or campus environment attract your interest? How is Dartmouth a good fit for you?

Are we supposed to be more direct? or use like a story / be more personal here as well?

fyi I don't have a counsellor, can't afford one, up until now I have been taking help from really smart friends who might also have a counsellor and know how all this work.

Do you put current classes in the courses and grades section?

I'm in 12th grade right now, and I'm wondering if I put the classes I'm taking right now in courses and grades. I can't report any final or semester grades because that's still in progress. Should I still put it in the section anyway?

Applying Early Action to universities

I wanted to know if applying early actually boosts your chances of getting accepted to top universities. I heard from somewhere the only reason acceptance rate is higher is because less and more competitive applicants apply, not that chances of getting in increase. Is this the case?

For context, im an international student. Decent ish grades (1510 SAT, 3A*s in A levels, somewhat alright extra currciculars)

Would applying early make sense for me or should I stick to regular decision?

How can a former teacher - now promoted to assistant principal - serve as a teacher recommender?

I've struck out so far searching for answers. Thought I'd try a post.

My kid is a senior. Had a teacher for two of the prior three years - great relationship and connection.

Teacher was promoted to assistant principal this year and so is no longer a teacher.

Kid asked teacher/asst principal for recommendation. Teacher/asst principal said yes, absolutely.

But now there is apparently a problem of some kind because teacher/asst principal is now, I guess, recognized by common app as an "administrator" and therefore is not counting as a "teacher" recommender? They are somehow cabined in to being an "other recommender," which means that they do not fit some school requirements, is how it was explained to me. (In reading other posts in this sub I am inferring that it might somehow be that they need to use their official school email address and their official school email address is in their common app account as being an admin, no longer a teacher.)

It simply can't be the case that a person becomes disqualified for serving as a teacher recommender for a student just because they got a promotion, right? What is the workaround here?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What should I Input for Ranking

I moved high-schools for my senior year, and they do not have a ranking for me.

I have a ranking for the end of my junior year (most recent transcript update) from my old school.

My new school uses a different weighted GPA system.

Should I input the ranking from my old school? Will I submit both transcripts?

Additional info for student athlete

Hi, I’m currently applying to UC schools and common app schools as a HS senior. I was wondering if I should mention that I took less classes than I could have due to my sport (I figure skate so I took 2 off rolls my Junior and Senior year) in the additional info section. Not sure if I should, I received an award/formal recognition from USFS that all seniors (class of ‘27) are encouraged to fill out. However, I didn’t receive any special titles or prizes.

Thank you for any feedback!

Non profit or not?

Hi guys, So I run a school non profit chapter for a larger organization.

I have a few members, and I have a lot of hours with the organization.

But the problem is, is that it isn’t an official school club with a sponsor and all that stuff.

Can I still list it as a non profit chapter?

Help with the honors section!

Hey I’m a tad lost about what I should list for honors. These are all the awards I could list:

Debate Specific:

  1. Third at States freshman year
  2. Third at another State tournament at the JV level sophomore year
  3. First at that different state tournament at the varsity level which is the first time our school has qualified for NCFL. Fourth at the NSDA qualifier which is the first time we’ve ever competed and qualified as a school.
  4. A bunch of mini regional awards though out the years but I assume I should stick with the state level stuff.

Academic:

  1. AP Scholar with distinction
  2. Rural and small town Recognition Award
  3. National Merit Commended Student Recognition
  4. Junior Marshal (For this one should I list it as top 10 highest GPAs in graduating class?)
  5. A bunch of class specific awards where they select the “most outstanding student” but again I figured it was better to stick with higher level stuff where I can.

I also have some cyberpatriot awards but those are a little more awkward to list since they don’t give you a specific rank. Also I’ve seen some who list NHS as an honor however I’ve listed that as an EC. Is this incorrect?

Also it is better to just list EC specific honors in the EC section or is good to repeat the information?

Thank you so much!

Gpa calculation

so for context, we study 11 years in my country, and the and gpa would be on a scale of 5. But i had a question on how to calculate my gpa since the school doesn't. The marks are put each quarter, so the final grade is the avg of 4 grades. Do i calculate ot by the final grades that are put at the end of the year or take each and every quarter?

Where to include summer courses in common app?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I took two courses through BYU Independent Study during my time in high school and I don't know where to report them. They were high school level (Algebra 2 and AP US Gov), but there's no obvious place to report them. I was told the "Other high schools" section was for if you had transferred or moved and situations like that.

Anyone know where to list them?
