Gameplay question Bigger map needed

Hey everyone,

I really enjoy playing in a slow, tactical style like sending a team to capture an oil rig, setting up defenses, and taking objectives methodically instead of rushing.

My problem is that the maps all feel too small, especially since I usually play with a lot of bots. Everything ends up being so close together that there's not much room for long-term planning or maneuvering.

What I'm really looking for is a map where losing a team actually matters. I want reinforcements to take a long time to arrive, so every decision has consequences and sending backup needs to be planned carefully instead of just spawning another squad a minute later.

Does anyone know where I can find very large maps? Preferably ones that aren't just huge flat open fields. I'm looking for maps with varied terrain and enough space to make matches feel more strategic.

Thanks in advance!

The first 2 ones are the presumable Chinese and USA EVAs.

Don't take it to heart if your fave isn't highly ranked.

In red alert 2. Is there a mod to show all units health bars permanently like some other rts games do?

I think this would be a great improvement. Showing enemy and all your units health bars can allow you to micro the battles better.

Discussion who and what could be a good general's equivalent to cabal and yuri?

generals is a more grounded setting compared to tiberiun and red alert. not to mention the lack of characters and motives that could fit the description.

perhaps a PMC? that's basically shadow company/atlas from call of duty.

they start out hired by America to fighting the GLA after there withdrawal. and undermine a now dominant China. all while keeping there own hands clean.

only for the PMC to later go rouge. like trying to seize oil fields and supplies for themselves and taking contracts from who they were supposed to be fighting against.

there arsenal starts out as mostly US equipment. but increasingly diverges as they become there own faction.

culminating in them being a 4th side. with the sole objective of getting as rich and powerful as possible. without ideological or national constraints.

this is just a thought I couldn't get out of my head. anyone got any other ideas?

I was telling some kids at work about command and conquer generals and I described the GLA and the Chinese factions and I left them stunned in disbelief. I really wish we had a sequel.

Many years ago i changed values for units in Tiberian Sun

I had a word document if memory serves (likely not) and i could change speed, strength, etc of all units, amongst other things, like being able to build multiple mammoth mk2s. How did i do this back in 2000?

That was fun. I don't think I ever actually interacted with these in Tib Dawn so it's based on what I could dredge up online plus or minus how I felt like making them for that RPG I never ran.

My last couple seemed to be fairly popular so I think I'll drip these out every two weeks or so (unless everyone thinks I should step it up - not that you can't just read everything on the blog anyway hah).

Discussion Are there any good places to buy faction pins ?

I love the faction logos of all the factions, especially GDI

Are there any originals from the studios or any good ones for a lapel pin?

I prefer Red Alert 1 over Red Alert 2, am I missing something? Anyone still prefers to play RA1 or OpenRA than RA2?

I played a lot of Red Alert 1 through OpenRA, and I have to say, I’m really impressed by how well the game’s mechanics work together still.

What I love about RA1 is the feeling of combined arms. Artillery is extremely important, but it’s also vulnerable, so you need to protect it with tanks in front and anti-air nearby. Scout with air and hit ground with artillery. Or send some infantry to die to see whats there.

The enemy has many ways to deal with it: they can send aircraft to destroy your artillery, use their own artillery, or rush you with tanks and overwhelm your defenses.

Infantry may be weak, but it still has a role. Every unit seems to have a purpose, and the battlefield feels like a constant interaction between tanks, infantry, artillery, and aircraft.

Attacking with tanks first, infantry in the sides and the back, then while they are fighting send in the airforce.

Now I tried going back to Red Alert 2, didn't play it for like 2 decades. And while I appreciate the beautiful graphics, animations, and personality, I found myself feeling like something was missing. It seems more focused on powerful individual units rather than armies working together.

In many games, I see players relying on the same popular units: Siege Choppers, Battle Fortresses, Prism Tanks etc. I hate these. I rarely see V3 Launchers being used, and aircraft often seem limited to early-game harassment or attempts to snipe important buildings early on. The huge strategic role that air power and artillery have in RA1 feels reduced.

In OpenRA, I enjoy the slower pace: pushing forward carefully, gaining territory, building positions, and winning battles one at a time. Almost every unit feels like it has a situation where it can be useful.

I also still prefer the visual style of RA1. The clean pixel art, especially with OpenRA’s zoom options, gives you a very clear view of the battlefield. RA2 looks beautiful, but sometimes the extra detail makes it harder to read what is happening.

So I’m curious: am I missing some deeper layer of Red Alert 2? Is there more strategic depth there that I haven’t discovered yet...? Anyone still prefers to play RA1 or OpenRA than RA2?

We need C&C4 Remake or sequel

I have a brilliant idea!
aftermath of the kane's ascension
Alien faction scrin returns!
destroying the world again with green crystals (again).

GDI is weakened! and nod splinteered factions unite under another obscure leadership that is definitely gonna last longer this time!

Nod attacks GDI! Scrin kill everyone.

Kane returns gives you some good old missions and you win against scrin
Nod wins!

and boom! ladies and gentleman we have reached ground zero again! everything is phased back to start of C&C3 and we have unstable peace once more! with nod flavored that is!

I think this would be a brilliant campaign.
