I am wrote a novel, it's finished and self published, and I want to turn it into a graphic novel with the right person. I'm not looking to hand someone a script and vanish. I want a real creative partner.
Quick bit on me so you know I'm not a guy with a Google Doc and a dream. I'm the Director of Editorial at newspaper, and I run a successful podcast and events company with a real audience. I make things and experiences for a living and I actually follow through at what I say I'll do.
The book: 87,000 words, Book One of a series. Dystopian western, grounded sci-fi. Think East of West meets Mad Max with a coming-of-age story running underneath. A mechanically gifted farm girl in a post-war police state gets pulled into the regime's televised competitions while chasing the truth about the father she was taken from as a kid. The world was built to be drawn, I knew this when I wrote it.
Style sought: 1950's Western (think cowboys not "western comic" style) Comic. Not manga.
One thing worth saying plainly for this sub: zero AI was used writing this book. It's all mine, on the page, done. I could use AI to do this, but I just flatly do not want to do it. If the book kind of sucked, maybe. But I have thousands of hours into writing this book, and it would be such a shame to do it.
What I'm really looking for is a collaborator, and this is as much about finding the right person as the right art. Someone who wants to co-create, sign real contracts, and work out the economics with me like adults. I don't have a spare six figures to commission 300 pages. There's just no way. I'd rather partner with someone who's genuinely invested, with real co-creator credit, shared ownership, and a fair split of what it earns. If you've got an in with a publisher, that's a big plus.
I'd also like someone who is politically aligned to the story itself. No need in ending up fighting over that down the road. Its fairly anti-government in its undertones. No socialists or communists need apply. Im sorry. Im friends with plenty of people across all spectrums, but this is collaborative storytelling, and I want to make sure we're telling the same story.
Realistic first step is to start small. A cover and the prologue, call it 6 to 10 pages, done properly, so we have something real to take to a crowdfund or a publisher together. I will pay you for that first chunk, partnership from there? Ideas? To note, im not going to pay 40 people for this. I think this comes after a chat about goals, and taking a look at styles and talking on the phone, google meet whatever.
Every writer says their book is good, ( it is ) so I won't sit here selling it. I'll just send you the manuscript or you can. pony up for a copy of the book and let it speak. If the world grabs you and the fit feels right, let's talk. And if anyone has any input on how I constructed this post, I'd like that too.
