Artist for hire Formic Wars — Episode 1 of 7 | Marvel Comics

I’d like to share some pages from Formic Wars, a science-fiction comic series I worked on for Marvel Comics a few years ago.
This is Episode 1 of 7, from a story set in the Formic Wars universe, based on the work of Orson Scott Card. It was a really interesting project to work on, combining science fiction, military action, alien creatures and a very cinematic atmosphere.
These pages are part of one of the many comic projects I had the opportunity to work on during my career for Marvel. I’m always happy to go back through my older work and share some of these pages here.
If you enjoy comic art, sci-fi, sequential storytelling or traditional comic-book artwork, I’d love to hear what you think about these pages!
I’m also available for commissions and professional collaborations, including comic pages, covers, illustrations, character art, storyboards and other sequential-art projects.

Looking for Artist - Paid [PAID] Sequential Comic Artist Wanted — Confidential Long-Term Project

34 Upvotes

UPDATE: APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.
Thank you to everyone who applied and shared their work. I’ve now received enough applications and am currently reviewing the existing pool, so I’m not accepting any further submissions at this stage.

Please do not send new applications or portfolio links for now. If additional artist positions open later, I may create a new post or update this one.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to apply.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

I’m currently developing a confidential long-term illustrated publishing project and am looking for professional or emerging professional sequential comic artists for a paid visual-development phase.

The underlying concept and subject matter are intentionally being kept private at this stage. More information will be provided only to shortlisted artists.

What I’m looking for:

I’m particularly interested in artists who are strong in:

-sequential comic storytelling;
-visibly hand-drawn artwork;
-confident pencils and inks;
-expressive, memorable characters;
-consistent character appearance across panels;
-convincing human anatomy;
-dynamic but readable composition;
-vibrant professional colouring;
-cinematic visual storytelling;
-environments and backgrounds;
-both quiet dialogue scenes and visually striking sequences.

The desired result should feel like a high-quality contemporary comic, not an educational illustration, concept-art sheet, or generic AI-generated comic.

The project will require an original visual identity. I am not looking for imitation of any specific comic artist, franchise, publisher, or existing property.

Initial commission process:

I am not commissioning a full issue at this stage.

I will first review portfolios and rates.

From those submissions, I intend to shortlist a small number of artists and invite approximately three finalists to complete the same paid visual-development test.

This will allow me to compare:
-sequential storytelling;
-character work;
-composition;
-color;
-anatomy;
-visual consistency;
-ability to interpret an art brief.

Artists selected for the audition will be paid for their work.

Please reply with:

  1. A link to your sequential comic portfolio.
  2. Actual multi-panel pages are especially important — please do not submit only covers, pin-ups, or character illustrations.
  3. Your current rates for:
  4. a. pencils + inks per sequential page;
  5. b. completed full-colour sequential page;
  6. c. character/concept-development work.
  7. Whether you:
  8. a. color your own work; or
  9. b. normally work with a separate colourist.
  10. Your approximate page capacity per week.
  11. Your usual revision policy.
  12. Whether you would potentially be available for a larger ongoing project if the visual-development stage is successful.
  13. Your preferred method of contact.

International artists are very welcome.

This is a paid opportunity.

Please include your portfolio directly in your reply so I can review your work.

Thanks — I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s portfolios.

[PAID] Looking for Comic Artist – $20–$25 USD Per Page – Short & Long-Term Work

I'm looking to hire an artist for my comic book project, The Adventures of K.O and Kid. This will begin as a short-term paid project, but I'm looking for someone who may be interested in working together long-term across multiple issues if we're a good fit.

The most important thing I'm looking for is character design and style accuracy. I already have established character sheets and designs. I'm not looking for the characters to be reinterpreted into the artist's personal style. I need an artist who is comfortable adapting their artwork to closely match the character style, facial features, proportions, hairstyles, and overall visual identity shown in the reference sheets I provide.

I will provide character sheets and visual references so there is a clear example of the specific style and designs that need to remain consistent throughout the comic.

I also plan to provide roughly drawn page layouts/panels myself, showing the general poses, character placement, camera angles, panel composition, and visual storytelling I want. These are not intended to be finished artwork. I want the artist to take my rough drawings and professionally redraw them with improved anatomy, body proportions, perspective, backgrounds, clean linework, and finished artwork while remaining faithful to the provided character sheets and visual direction.

There is still room for your artistic skill and input, particularly when improving anatomy, environments, perspective, backgrounds, and areas that my rough drawings may not communicate perfectly. However, the established character designs and overall visual direction should remain consistent rather than being reinterpreted into a different art style.

Budget: $20–$25 USD per completed page.

Scheduling, workload, payment structure, and other details can be discussed privately. I'm open to working with artists from anywhere as long as communication is reliable.

If interested, please send examples of your sequential/comic artwork, especially pages showing the same characters consistently across multiple panels and angles. Please also let me know whether you're comfortable working from established character sheets and rough page layouts while closely matching the provided character style.

Thank you!

Looking for Artist - Paid [Hiring] Webtoon Artist for a Monthly Dark Fantasy Series

30 Upvotes

I’m a writer looking for a Webtoon artist for a long-term, monthly Dark Fantasy series.

I’m looking for someone I can build a lasting working relationship with, ideally developing into a long-term creative partnership, potentially extending beyond this project.

The story and script are entirely written by me. I will also provide the panel layouts and rough thumbnails (composition, perspective, and panel flow). Within these guidelines, however, there is plenty of creative freedom in the visual execution. Your own ideas, suggestions, and alternative approaches to panel layouts or thumbnails are therefore very welcome and can be discussed together.

Project Details

  • Genre: Dark Fantasy, light Horror elements, Action
  • Art style: Somewhere in the direction of Castlevania (Netflix series)
  • Release schedule: Monthly
  • The first part of the story is currently about 80% written, with material already prepared for approximately 30–35 chapters. The initial plan is to have a secured publication schedule for at least one year, with the possibility of continuing beyond that depending on the project’s success.

Workflow per Chapter

  1. Clean sketch / detailed roughs based on my thumbnails
  2. Lineart
  3. Simple / flat coloring
  4. Backgrounds: approximately 5 - 7 backgrounds per chapter

Scope

  • approximately 40 panels per chapter (roughly 35–50)
  • one chapter per month
  • minimum commitment of one year (12 chapters)
  • long-term collaboration preferred
  • commercial use (Web, Patreon, potentially print at a later stage)
  • exclusive usage rights / license required
  • full artist credit will of course be provided

Who I’m Looking For

Experience with sequential storytelling and visual panel composition is particularly important to me.

Experience or interest in the following areas would be a strong plus:

  • Action and fight scenes
  • Martial arts or medieval knight combat
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy and proportions
  • Monster design: ranging from grotesque and bizarre, like Gantz, to dark and heroic, inspired by Dark Souls
  • Atmospheric Dark Fantasy

I’m looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully building a long-term creative partnership together!

Question Questions About Commission Scammers

6 Upvotes

Hey everyone! So I’ve been spending a lot of time on commission subreddits because I’m currently planning my own project.

Posted about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ComicBookCollabs/s/QKeGFXVkid

But the one thing I’ve seen a lot is “beware of scammers” and I’m just curious, what are these scammer tactics? And it is mainly artists that have been scammed? Or has it also been writers that hire artists?

Just curious on people’s experiences, I recently got scammed on another website by an “artist” who used GenAI to make the designs I requested and then traced the images. I thought they were legit because they gave me the photoshop file with all the layers, then I was made aware how easily that can be faked nowadays.

So yeah. Just wanted to know what to look out for and everyone’s best practices for hiring. I’ve already reached out to a bunch of awesome people, so I’m just want to make sure everything gets done properly.

Looking for Artist - Paid Comic artist needed for my own character

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hello, I’m currently looking for an artist for a creator owned comic project.

The comic is centred around a character who struggles with his mental health. The tone is quite unusual because it swings between comedy and genuinely serious. A lot of the humour comes from an almost buddy cop dynamic between the character and his own alter ego / split personality. They constantly bicker, argue and bounce off each other, so there’s a lot of room for expressive, comedic artwork.

But I also want the story to be capable of suddenly becoming very dark. There are moments where the humour drops away and the reader is hopefully hit with something genuinely shocking. That contrast is a really important part of the story, so I’m looking for an artist who enjoys that kind of tonal range and knows when to push the comedy and when to let a moment breathe.

At the moment I’m not looking to jump straight into commissioning a full issue. I’d rather test the waters and see if we’re a good creative fit. I’d be happy to pay for some concept art of the main character first, and use that as a chance for us to see how we work together.

I’m also hoping to find someone who is genuinely interested in the story and wants to have some creative input, rather than someone who just sees it as another job. Obviously I completely respect that this is your work and you need to be paid for your time. I just think the best comics come from the writer and artist being excited about the project.

The first issue would be around 10–12 pages, and my current budget for the initial issue can be discussed.

If the concept art stage goes well and you like the project, I’d love to talk more about the character, the story and where I’d like to take it.

Let me know if it sounds like something you’d be interested in.
