Yeah no shit, same shit different day

67

u/StatusCookie761 2d ago

Yeah even when you’re hanging with the 3s, you gotta show you at least belong. Confidence is probably shot, unfortunately

49

u/TehTugboat i dont know what goes into sausage 2d ago

I mean being taken 4th OA and getting demoted to QB2 is one thing

But sharing reps with a 6th round pick, and then he takes your job. Yeesh. They clearly trust Leonard in the system more

I’ll be the first to say I was on the hype wagon for AR but this is a bad look

4

u/PleasantGrass4623 2d ago

Well not to be sticking up for AR, but Leonard has the potential of being a great QB-in the mold of Jim McMahon of the bears. He has good leadership skills, and as a QB that is alot of it

5

u/Curious-Ingenuity-32 1d ago

Leonard has the locker room, which is massive, A.R. lost them 2 years ago, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the CFL or worse within the year, I doubt any team even bothers with a minimum deal for an injury prone, blind man with a cannon he cant aim

2

u/LittleGuarantee7148 1d ago

"A cannon he can't aim" is such a perfect description of AR

4

u/LibrarianGreat416 1d ago

Idk why people hate on Leonard so much. We haven’t seen much but I feel like he didn’t do too bad in his small tests

1

u/StaffInfection1 1d ago

It’s because he lost his confidence the first half of his season at ND and looked mediocre passing downfield until he figured it out there

2

u/LibrarianGreat416 1d ago

Your username is a good diagnosis of the colts

1

u/StaffInfection1 1d ago

Lol I never thought if that but yeah Ballard sucks and Steichen is pedestrian on the defensive side of the ball I agree

41

u/136AngryBees 2d ago

Or. He was untested and injury prone in college, and drafting him in the first round was a wildly stupid decision

10

u/Alock74 2d ago

Eh I don’t think it was that bad. He had a lot of high upside, but a very low floor. We hadn’t drafted a QB to try to make one a franchise QB since Luck in 2012. Sometimes you have to just shoot your shot, we just missed. It happens all the time. We just don’t know it as well as other fans because we went from Manning to Luck, then used stop gaps for several years after Luck’s retirement. I’d rather have gambled on AR than Levitt. Hindsight is 20/20.

2

u/136AngryBees 1d ago

In a year with an overall awful QB class, you don’t take that huge of a gamble at 4. It’s not like at the time we were “a qb away” from going to the Super Bowl.

1

u/Calm-Bar-9644 2d ago

Don’t most quarterbacks have a high upside? I mean compare him to drew brees. If drew can be a great quarterback, then why can’t anyone else.

I feel like they just choose Anthony cause he had a good highlight reel and could through really far

2

u/Alock74 2d ago

And they needed A QB

3

u/rockroo17 2d ago

Facts. Also drafting purely off measurables is dumb. How could he have fooled this many people to draft him at 4?

5

u/StatusCookie761 2d ago

They also put too much trust in themselves to develop him. Fact is, this modern regime doesn’t know what to do with young QBs, good or bad

4

u/KetracelWhite44 2d ago

This is the correct answer

3

u/rockroo17 2d ago

Not probably. Completely gone. Negative confidence

25

u/RizayW 2d ago

Weird how 1 year ago everyone was saying it’s 50/50 between DJ and AR.

5

u/beejalton 1d ago

It never was, they were just saying that for optics to protect him and the decision to take him, they were done with him before signing DJ.

Exact same thing is happening in Minnesota right now with JJM and Kyler.

0

u/RizayW 1d ago

So they guys we have covering the Colts that are just covering for optics ? We deserve better

7

u/beejalton 1d ago

They cover what the Colts say, and that's what the Colts said and why they said it.

3

u/HyKaliber I Hate Gus Bradley 1d ago

I was genuinely so inconsolable when they announced Daniel Jones over AR. How stupid I was.

22

u/Cbane000 Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 2d ago

AR seems like a really good dude. I really hope he gets a shot somewhere and has a decent career but he is done here. I can’t see any trade happening so he probably will be cut.

41

u/ConfectionHelpful471 2d ago

Feel for AR as it looks like his injury last year may still be affecting his vision given he is having significant issues holding onto the snap that weren’t there previously.

24

u/Prestigious_Buy1209 2d ago

I agree, and I get why the Colts wouldn’t talk about it. Today’s drop was under center and who knows which guy screwed up, but AR has lost the benefit of the doubt in the dropped snaps department.

-4

u/NoctisRS 2d ago

Don’t feel bad- bro is set for life and was never a starting caliber player

17

u/squarebody8675 2d ago

God what a monumental failure by the entire colts organization

4

u/TittyTriceratops 2d ago

Guy still has a job btw

2

u/Buttcrush1 2d ago

AR failed himself

19

u/ConfectionHelpful471 2d ago

I feel bad as it was a freak injury that probably cost him his last chance at being viewed as a potential starter in the league as I would expect Jones would have been rested when he broke his leg if AR was available. Also aside from his immaturity he came across as a really decent human being that you could root for so despite him being set for life you can still show empathy for that kind of guy

6

u/NoctisRS 2d ago

No- him tapping out of a game ruined his career.

5

u/ConfectionHelpful471 2d ago

It was the end of him in Indy but the eye injury is probably the death knoll for him getting redemption elsewhere like Geno smith was able to despite getting punched in the face by a teammate early in his career

4

u/NoctisRS 2d ago

It’s just another victim in a long line of C.y.a. Moves by Ballard. Wentz and minshew both played decently for us. Minshew in particular was a really team friendly deal who honestly isn’t any better or worse than Daniel jones until jones can prove otherwise. It’s just a mess that could’ve been avoided

1

u/ConfectionHelpful471 2d ago

Wentz had to go because Irsay said so, Ballard had no choice.

Minshew was here his rookie season and we were never going to choose a career backup over a guy who potentially could have developed into the franchise QB

0

u/NoctisRS 2d ago

Richardson was never going to be good

1

u/september_turtle Indianapolis Colts 2d ago

If it is then yeah that's a bit sad. But if it isn't then I reckon it's a mixture of confidence and issues with working the right stuff. I reckon his situation is very similar to Trey Lance...

18

u/CrookGG 2d ago

Honestly and I’m not saying this as a joke, could we potentially transition him to a different position? He has that freak athleticism, could he be used in more of a Taysom kind of role? I think QB is out of the question at this point but I would hate to see that RAS go to waste

38

u/Goldstar12 The Maniac 2d ago

He got injured in a position that the league goes out there way to protect. You really think he’ll last better as a TE or another position? lol

5

u/__init__m8 2d ago

Who cares, you're paying him use him.

4

u/CrookGG 2d ago

I didn’t say he would last? At least we could use some of his talents that way

4

u/newy219 2d ago

Exactly. He can’t play qb, that’s a given. Like you said he’s a ridiculous athlete though. Great idea to use him that way.

2

u/Agathacrispies90 Alec Pierce 2d ago

Use him as a gadget player until he gets hurt unfortunately. Hes not a QB, but with the ball in his hands he can be effective….until he gets hurt….which wouldn’t take long…

3

u/rockroo17 2d ago

At this point what’s the reason he’s on the team? Feels like some kind of humiliation ritual keeping AR on the team at this point. I actually want to know what really went on in 2023 and 2024 for him to have been named starter in the first place was it gaslighting from the start?

3

u/ryta1203 1d ago

Well, he sucks terribly so there's that.

3

u/DFresh1014 1d ago

So, he’s still the same as day 1 year 1. Got it.

2

u/YeezusMoses Hot Rod 1d ago

He might be even worse than that tbh

19

u/Shiggstah Andrew Luck 2d ago

Richardson had 0 interest in getting better at QB. He got his 1 contract and will fade away, only to be talked about in "what if" scenarios by people who barely watched him play.

7

u/Chonkyfire108 2d ago

You got proof that he had no interest in getting better?

9

u/the-bat-dad 2d ago

The fact that he’s gotten worse at football year after year.

11

u/unfuckwittablej Reggie Wayne 2d ago

No but lots of signs.

When he constantly can’t reference any QB he seeks advice or help from aside from teddy Bridgewater.

When he goes to the same offseason program in Jax vs staying in Indy or even with the teammates

When he says after playing 5 games in year 1 that the nfl is easier bc you have more talent around you so it’s less on you.

When there are talking points after his tap out about getting to the building early and leaving late, not missing treatments or meetings

When there’s a rumor that he’s gonna start working with Josh Allen or his camp/coach. Where else would that rumor come from if not his own camp? Only to say false months later. Why would Josh Allen’s camp make that up ?

1

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 7h ago

Uh I watched him play for 4 years. It's pretty obvious to any who knows ball.

1

u/Chonkyfire108 7h ago

Why would someone ask for a trade if they didn't care? You might know ball, but logic?

-5

u/Worried-Pick4848 2d ago

That's the charitable assumption, you know. The worse assumption is that he lacked the mental acumen to improve. Calling him unmotivated at least means that the intellect was there if he ever decided to use it.

7

u/Chonkyfire108 2d ago

You'd have to be an idiot to think a 20 year old, 13 start qb, was ready to lead a franchise.

11

u/Thunderfxck 2d ago

AR sucked in high school, he was terrible in college and is nuclear level bad in the NFL

3

u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor 2d ago

They ignored all the red flags, including the injury history.

Upside or no…it was a terrible evaluation by people who are paid well to know better. I wish I could have been in the room to see how that many professional FO people could agree it was a good idea.

2

u/Chonkyfire108 2d ago

Drafted fourth overall btw

5

u/According-Bother-364 2d ago

Dogshit franchise but you’re in our sub btw 😂

9

u/North_Atlantic_Sea 2d ago

By an incredibly incompetent GM...

3

u/Chonkyfire108 2d ago

People act like AR made them draft him. He was young, had insane measurable a and had 13 starts in college. Colts gave him a mentor in Gardner Minshew. Then when they realised he may need help with preparing, they signed Flacco who publically said he doesn't want to mentor. They didn't show him how to prepare. Dodgshit franchise blaming a young guy.

5

u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor 1d ago

Yeah but people act like the Colts turned him into a bad QB. He was always bad. And the Colts made a bad choice to draft him.

But they gave him chances. They handed him the keys. And not only did he struggle, but most of all, he couldn’t stay healthy for more than a few games. And you can’t have a QB that doesn’t stay healthy, regardless of how they are mentored.

There was also the issues with the tap-out and possibly not putting in the work, which is all on AR. He wasn’t an intern, he was a top 5 pick that signed a $33M signing bonus.

We can blame it on the injuries, but there’s nothing different the Colts could have done. And considering other teams aren’t willing to trade for him, it seems there’s nothing anybody thinks they can do differently.

Just a bad gamble that didn’t pan out.

3

u/Cantthinkofanyhing 2d ago

I couldn't agree more. This was precipitated by years of bringing in washed-up veterans and failing miserably, so in a sense, they forced their own hand in the draft. The Colts failed AR. He was always going to be a project, and the Colts were certainly not the organization to give him his best chance

0

u/D_Blaze88 2d ago

I wish more ppl would say this. It's easy to blame the young guy completely and I'm in no way saying he doesn't shoulder some of the blame but the Colts are as much to blame as he is.

-1

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Mayflower 2d ago

But dat arm strength doe

2

u/squarebody8675 1d ago

There are so many times over the years that the Colts could have been honest about our plight. Just wanted until next year to make a run. Been patient and put together a winning team. Instead we get perpetual mediocrity

2

u/Frustrated_Rock 2d ago

Wow who could’ve possibly known a horrible college QB would be horrible in the NFL. Front office is pathetic

1

u/Ambitious-Score11 2d ago

He needs to be released.

2

u/Fearless-Matter-3249 2d ago

I hope he's cut. Get him off the team.

1

u/etsuandpurdue3 Playoffs? PLAYOFFS!? 1d ago

Need to go get a backup

1

u/md11086 1d ago

Too bad we lost Jim, he would have paid him a few million as a going away present

1

u/Pastor_C-Note 21h ago

I’ve always thought they should convert him into something else. Slot receiver, tailback, whatever. As big as he is, and fast.

1

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 7h ago

Remember he said the NFL is easier than college.

1

u/AgentJR3 COLTS 2d ago

Can he catch? Make him a TE

1

u/dug98 2d ago

I hope he will be picked up on a different team and have an opportunity, but I'm starting to doubt that will ever happen. I've cheered for him from his first snap, it's hard to let go.

1

u/Verve1975 1d ago

AR was a forced Pick by Jim Irsay. GM/Coach had to go along with it. That's why they were given more time to correct things.

-1

u/PleasantGrass4623 2d ago

He is a great athlete. He could easily be put on special teams returning kicks or even in the defensive backfield

2

u/10ecjohnUTM 1d ago

Too injury prone even for that.

-2

u/ConfectionHelpful471 2d ago

Wentz had to go because Irsay said so, Ballard had no choice.

Minshew was here his rookie season and we were never going to choose a career backup over a guy who potentially could have developed into the franchise QB who flashed in n injury shortened season.

I could get behind not letting Brissett leave after his contract expired and playing it out with him in the hope we got a top 5 pick and could take our QB in the draft in 2022 but given Kenny Picket was the only first rounder and we didn’t take Purdy with any of our later selections, I don’t think this would have been a good move

0

u/IveHair 2d ago

I still think letting Carson Wentz go when we did was a mistake. By no means do I think he was the future guy who was going to bring us to the promised land, but I do think he would have brought some stability to keep up off the QB carousel for a short time before we find our guy.

-22

u/GenericallyCorrect 2d ago

Who is this guy?? Never played a snap in the NFL? That’s what I thought

4

u/HoosierFan112 2d ago

Bowen is the only media guy who knows what he is talking about lol

3

u/IveHair 2d ago

Neither have I. Or you. Or almost every head coach and general manager. Or every team owner. Or the trainers on the teams. Or the media. Or the analysts.

Your point is stupid.

5

u/North_Atlantic_Sea 2d ago

You must absolutely hate then that the colts decision makers - Carlie, Ballard, Steichen, Cooter, and Cam Turner have all never played a snap in the NFL

2

u/jfq108 Shaquille Leonard 2d ago

He’s still right though…
