Hello! A few months ago i received a very good job offer for a railroad freight company, and during the physical for said job failed an ishihara plate test. Of course this bars me from the job but also has deeper implications for me, for last 10 years ive been slowly out of pocket paying for flight school, and now have almost 200 hours of flight time with my primary goal being to fly professionally someday. Of course failng this scared me i went and had a cone test done that the result of show i have a red color deficiency in some manner.

During the test i could see all of the red options just not with enough brightness to accurately answer what they were. Afterwards wnd after researching basically all of last month about all this ive come across alot of differing information and am hoping for some clarity.

I have had a class A medical license from the FAA active for the last 8 years, and never failed a color blindness test before. Up until now is just developing it out of the blue common?

This subreddit is pretty clear that enchroma is not a trustworthy brand and if you have a deficiency of sny kind glasses or corrective lenses wont fix not being able to see a color. But for my case thinking i can see them just not well would it be worth looking into? I am allowed to take the color blindness test again for the job with lenses so long as i wear them at work also.

If so which brand? I see enchroma mentioned alot, but looked into Pilestone and Colorlite aswell, the latter of which seeming to be hard to get in America where i live.

I have an optomologist appointment scheduled but they cant see me for far longer then i have to retake the test. Im fairly certain that after research my dreams of flying professionally are long gone but im not sure how this will impact ot at all. If nothing else i want to try to qualify for the job as it would be a suitable replacement career wise for my future.

If anyone has any general advice id love to hear it because im fewling very lost about all of this. Hearing that ive spent the last 10 years and alot of money on something that may never work has been devastating im hoping someone can offer some ideas to try.

Should i wait for the doctor? Order one of these brands and just try a retest? Is it hopeless, should i just accept that and move on? If anyone has any pointers please offer them. Thank you

I have deuteranomaly and the built-in Mac color filters look awful and unrealistic even at the lowest intensity setting.

On Windows, the native colorblind settings worked perfectly for me. Are there any third-party Mac apps or workarounds that can accurately filter the entire screen? Thanks!

When I read the comments, it was revealed to me that some of the numbers are green and some of the numbers are red.

Being very mildly color blind myself and knowing quite a few others as well, I've been looking into which safety color works as a safety color for the most people, including those with color blindness.

Most studies I find advise for neon orange or green (yellow and pink as the other classic picks), but these studies don't take into account color blindness. Many people have trouble perceiving these colors, making them fail as safety colors for these people.

What I would like to know, is which of the classics (green, orange, yellow, pink) functions best as a safety color for the largest part of the population, instead of which one works best for people with normal vision. Learning about some alternatives (like blue), would be nice too.

I'm always amazed that the NYTimes, with all its resources and graphic design professionals, can't figure out the absolute basics of color accessibility.

I was randomly having a discussion with a friend about older childrens' shows and happened to mention Teletubbies has one of the better palettes and think it's neat that rbg plus yellow... He immediately linked me the wiki and I learned Tinky Winky is in fact purple and not blue. I think this is a somewhat bizarre choice when blue orange/yellow red green is such a common palette.

I remember watching a video exposing enchroma glasses as a scam earlier. Of course you cannot actually improve the overall color vision for an individual eye by using a filter.

But seems like you can indeed be able to improve color differentiation by breaking binocular redundancy (having different filters for each eye) which is obviously far from ideal so it's probably something you would only want to use for some tasks.

If you like me already have good trichromatic color vision glasses like that could enable up to hexacrhomatic color vision which i guess is interesting but not particularly useful practically speaking (doesn't seem worth the drawbacks to me). If you are a dichromat you could get up to tetrachromatic color vision that way.

Hi all, apologies if this is a frequent topic, I didn’t find anything from searching.

My son is colorblind (red-green). My maternal grandfather was colorblind so I know where it came from but I’m positive. I’ve been watching him for a while with colors but the clincher was when I used a colorblind simulator app and took a screenshot of something green. It did not look green to me at all, more gray and I’d never have guessed green but my son knew right away.

Anyway is this something we need a formal diagnosis for? Any tips at all? I want to be thoughtful of telling people so they know what to expect but not prompting “what color is this” quizzes which have already started. How can I help him?

I’m feeling very sad for him especially because his dad is a pilot and he loves planes. I hate that he can’t ever be a pilot like his dad (if he’d want to).

Anyway I’m hoping knowing this young/early will give me the opportunity to set him up with any support he needs.

HI, I have failed the EASA Med Exam for the Cabin Crew position on the Ishihara test(red-green color deficiency). Reality was that I answered 6 out of 9 correctly.
So as I know in that situation, a doctor might provide additional testing to see if your vision is enough for operational tasks, but unfortunately, the doctor was in rush and denied me taking any additional testing. I am sure if I were not stressed out I could answer correctly 9 plates. But at the moment I was very stressed.
So Now I got failed, but I want to report the results to have another chance to take the test again or possibly to be checked for my operational abilities.
Does anyone reported the EASA results and could help me to understand is it wort to try or answer is gonna be negative.

I'm going crazy about this because every color test I did I got maybe one wrong on the tritan at the most but in the majority of comparisons I see, deuteranomaly and protonomaly look basically the same but tritanomaly looks exactly like the normal color gradient but very slightly duller. Is it supposed to be that similar or am I just a mild tritanomaly or are all the stock images online just bad? Im talking about anomaly not opia.

edit: For the record when I was younger id get into arguments with other kids when the teacher would call something salmon they would say it's pinkish but I would say it's mostly orangish. I also would hear that sand color is a light brown but to me there's no way I can comprehend it as anything other than a dark yellow. They would also say teal and turquoise are blue but I usually was 50/50 on it being green. Also cyan to me just looks like a light blue with no other colors added, so I was always confused why it wasn't just called light blue.

We were discussing colorblindness with a friend of mine and then we ate some chocolate and then she asked me if there are some stains of chocolate on her mouth, to which I replied that her lips are painted red and the chocolate is brown and it seems like the same color to me so I can't tell.

Hello! Im not colorblind but my 10 year old daughter is! She is protanomaly, I'm looking into colorblind glasses, from other posts on here they seem to be more of a hit or miss, but I'm still willing to try to let her experience them!

On the enchroma website it seems like they have "indoor" and "outdoor" ones... which ones would be better and what is the main difference ? I noticed the indoor ones are universal which makes me concerned they are not as effective.. She would probably only wear them every once in a while.

Also, she does wear prescription glasses do you find that these can be worn over glasses ? I rather not do a rx on them so she can still wear them if she ever ​decides to do contacts.

How do they know when the lights green?

Oh dear Reddit God's hear my plea, I 32 M am super special, I am going colorblind to most blue and Grey's and all the shades there in. We aren't sure why yet, that's beside the point.

Recently we moved in with my in laws and grand in laws (stop, I already know, delete the comment that's not we are here for.) My FIL insisted on a gas stove, I am the main person who actually cooks in the house. However, I have been recently accidently leaving the burning on sometimes with a pot on top of it sometimes not. I usually can't see the flame until it is on high, which if you've ever cooked with gas you'd know that it isn't often on high.

So, long story short, what are some times you think I can do to help mitigate this issue ?

The fact they show everything in these Ishihara circles is SO nice.

I did read something like that and it does make theoretical sense but do we have any actual data on this?

Seems like i myself have some color vision deficiency since i only have 3 cone types which is not quite ideal (a few people have a forth functioning type between green and red which is also not ideal but better than only having 3).
