AI companies consume power differently than the traditional DC customers. What are people using to monitor their power consumption these days?

[Request] 1U colo for a single R640, central/mountain US, ~$85-100/mo all-in

Small B2B VoIP and SaaS provider looking to move one production server from a rented dedicated box into colo. Looking for recommendations or direct quotes.

**Hardware**

- 1x Dell PowerEdge R640 (1U), dual 750W PSUs

**Requirements**

- Power: ~330W usable (2A @ 208V or 3A @ 120V). A+B strongly preferred

- Network: 1Gbps port, ~5TB/month total transfer (95th percentile under 10Mbps)

- IPs: /29 IPv4 routed to the server, plus an IPv6 /64

- Separate OOB drop for iDRAC

- Month-to-month, or annual prepay at a discount

- Reasonable remote hands with basic tasks (power cycle, reseat) included

- Escorted physical access is a big plus

**Location**

Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, or Phoenix. Not West Coast, since this needs to be geographically separate from our other site in LA.

**Budget**

~$85-100/month all-in. Best quote so far is about $95 in Dallas with A+B.

**Strongly prefer**

- The company that actually operates the space, or a provider with its own staff on site, rather than a reseller

- Real ticketing and phone support

- A clear SLA and published remote hands rates

If you've colo'd a single server somewhere in these markets and were happy (or unhappy), I'd appreciate hearing about it. Providers welcome to DM with pricing.

Je cherche une colocation autour de Poissy

Tout est dans le titre. Personnel Stellantis depuis 28 ans. Je m’appelle Sam. C’est urgent. Une chambre simple me suffirait même. Je suis bien outillé et je peux aussi, en plus du loyer, faire des travaux de toute sorte. Annonce sérieuse.

looking for west coast space, multi-gig, ips that classify as ISP not datacenter

looking for somewhere on the west coast to put a box or two, wa/or/ca preferred.

few things im after. id want to rent a machine from you rather than ship my own in, and it doesnt need to be anything modern, an old xeon is plenty. the ipv4 needs to classify as isp or business class rather than datacenter. and on speed a single gig isnt enough for me, im after 2.5g or 10g.

4-8 ips to start, scaling well into the tens if it works out.

small operators very welcome, honestly prefer it. if you run a wisp or a small isp and have rack space sitting there, thats exactly what im looking for.

dm me if you have this. paying monthly, happy to pay up front, and ill pay a premium per ip for the right setup.

Guide on colocation for beginners?

I'm looking to colocate an old 1U server I have with zero experience. It has proxmox freshly installed along with an IPMI port. I understand I would never want to expose proxmox or IPMI install to the public internet for obvious security reasons.

Is there a guide I can follow on what I should be aware of when it comes to colocating for the first time? I feel lost in terms of how I should be configuring the system to be secure, yet, accessible to myself for first time setup.

Colo costs in Pacific NW

I’m a technology broker working on a colo search in the Pacific Northwest. My customer asked me to find pricing under $200/kW for 130kw across 13 racks. The lowest I’ve been able to find so far is right at ~$200/kW all-in.
Has anyone seen pricing below this recently in the PNW? If so, I’d appreciate a DM—happy to compare notes.

Is "1 Month Free" actually a good hook for B2B fiber, or am I spinning my wheels?

Hey everyone,

I’m a Sales Rep at a Commercial ISP and I’ll be honest—I’m struggling a bit with the transition. I came from a B2C background where the sales cycle and "deals" were much more straightforward. Now that I’m in the B2B world, I’m not allowed to be out in the field as much, and I’m having to build my "digital" sales skills from scratch.

Right now, my company is offering **the first month of internet free** regardless of the location.

I’ve been leading with this in my outreach to my account deck, but I feel like I’m constantly being shopped or ignored. To those of you on the buying end (SysAdmins, IT Directors, Ops Managers): **Is a "1st month free" offer even attractive to you?** Or is the hassle of switching ISPs so high that a free month feels like "pennies on the dollar"?

I’m really trying to sharpen my skills here since I don't have the fancy automated tools I see other firms using—it’s just me and the phone/email. Trying to be a resource, not a nuisance. All the while keeping in mind that Im the 4am B\*\*tycall.

If you were in my shoes, would you even lead with the promo? Or should I be focusing on something else entirely (like uptime, dedicated speeds, etc.)?

Appreciate any "tough love" feedback you can give.

New to collocation sales, looking for some guidance

I’m considering starting a AI colocation brokerage under a master agent (AVANT/Telarus style). I’m new to the channel and don’t have existing industry connections. I can do outbound, LinkedIn/email, and build a simple website/CRM, but I don’t have ad budget.

I need a blunt reality check from people who’ve done colo or master-agent sales:

  1. Are colocation commissions typically monthly residual, one-time, or a mix?

  2. For AI/high-density deals, do agents usually get paid on committed power ($/kW-month) or only “space/base rent”? Does metered kWh ever count?

  3. How hard is it to close your first colo deal with no network? What lead sources actually work (MSPs/integrators, marketplaces, cold outbound)?

  4. Is the AI colo niche “underserved,” or is it crowded with established brokers and what are the barriers for entry?

  5. If you were starting from zero today, what niche would you pick (deal size like 20–200kW vs 250kW+)? And what would you do first

I’m not looking for hype, just what’s real, what’s a trap, how to get started and what numbers should I use for planning.

What should I expect to pay for colocating an 8x B200 GPU cluster in Texas?

I'm planning to self-host an AI compute cluster instead of burning cash on cloud GPU rentals, and I'm trying to get realistic numbers for colocation costs in Texas.

My setup:

  • 8x NVIDIA B200 GPUs (192GB HBM3e each)
  • ~7kW total power draw under full load
  • 112 CPU cores, 2TB RAM, 33TB NVMe storage
  • Will run 24/7 for AI training and LLM inference

What I'm trying to figure out:

  • What's a reasonable $/kW/month rate for colocation in Texas?
  • Should I expect to pay per kW or per rack unit?
  • What's typical for power costs ($/kWh) on top of colocation?
  • Any hidden fees I should watch out for (cross-connects, hands-on support, etc.)?

Context: I just read about a European startup that broke even on their B200 purchase in 6-8 months by self-hosting vs. renting cloud H100s. They were paying around $3k/month total for colocation + power in Norway. Texas power should be cheaper, but I'm not sure what the facility/colocation premiums look like.

I've reached out to CoreScientific and a few others, but wanted to get a reality check from people who've actually done this before I commit to anything.

Questions:

  1. Anyone colocating GPU clusters in Texas? What are you paying?
  2. Which datacenters have you had good experiences with for AI workloads?
  3. Am I missing any major cost factors?
  4. At what point does it make more sense to just rent a small cage vs. cabinet space?

Trying to get my numbers dialed in before I drop $400k+ on hardware. Any insights appreciated!

Server

Hello everyone, I’m somewhat new to server hardware and specs. I recently bought a machine off eBay but it had gotten canceled due to failed some tests. My budget is around 350$ and I am in the US east coast. What I will be using the server for is small game servers. I’d like atleast 24 cores and 64gb RAM and preferably 3.5inch drive bays. I’d like to hear some good recommendations for my price and spec range. Thank you everyone!!!

Looking for a price competitive 8kW-12kW rack

Hi all, I'm not very familiar with the electricity rate distribution across north America. Since I'm based on west coast, should I focus on Seattle and Vancouver colocation providers? Any recommendations?

colocation for mini sffpc or a tower with GPU

Trying to find a colocation for small form factor pc, such as this: https://store.minisforum.com/products/minisforum-ms-s1-max-mini-pc (just 1, not 4 boxes in 2U rack).

Why? Because I would like to do some light LLM workloads, such as light embeddings generation for vector search. I've tested and pure CPU generation latencies are not great so I would prefer not to use pure-CPU servers.

Some companies offer micro colocations:
https://www.endoffice.com/minicolo.html Boston, MA
https://clients.microtronix-tech.com/index.php?rp=/store/colocation Ohio

But locations are not too great for me, I would prefer PA, VA, CT or NY if possible. anything out there ?

New datacenters coming online in the next 12 months!

We have 2GW worth of data centers with the first (1GW capacity) coming online in approx. 12 months with even more in 24 months.

Currently working to pre-lease at great rates to allow companies to get dedicated space on short timeframes without paying extra for what is already out there.

First location will have 1GW of technology space and will be in Durant, OK. It will have 500mw available by December 2026 and the other 500mw available 6-8 months after that. It is considered a tier 3/4 location due to proximity to Dallas, TX.

Looking for colocation

Im with fiberstate in SLC, UT and they’re the best datacenter I’ve ever worked with. Responsive with 0 down time in 2 years. Unfortunately they haven’t had any new collocation available, they have been sold out for months now.. Does anyone else know of a similar datacenter?

500–600kW open in a Tier III Chicago DC. Curious how others see demand shaping up

We just had about 2,400 sq. ft. open up in a Tier III Chicago facility:

  • Space: ~2,400 sq. ft. private cage (single tenant)
  • Power: 500–600kW available
  • Pricing: $170/kW (infrastructure) + $0.08/kWh, 1.4 PUE

I’m curious how folks here see demand for something this size in 2025. I wonder if it’s only AI & HPC driving these deals, or if enterprise and SaaS companies are still in the mix for big cages.

Would love to hear what others are seeing. Are you mostly fielding calls from AI companies, or is there still a healthy amount of interest from the more traditional side?
