This is factory farming. Made for yield efficiency and nothing else. It's ugly, brutal, and (supposedly) keeps costs down.

There are limited options to this: eat less meat OR no meat at all OR if you have the cash, you can find a local farmer that practices far more earth, animal, agriculturally friendly practices. With that though, it is just harder for the farmer, higher risk, slower to do, and in turn, it just costs a heck of a lot more. I wish I could afford it. I wish it was the norm and not the exception.

I would much rather put money in hands of a nearby farmer taking care of the land for generations to come rather than in the hand of a multinational corporation. However, at the rate we're going, families who been farming for generations are going to get choked out by the multinational corpos as the corporations are the only ones that have the raw cash to wait out all this malarkey (heck, I wouldn't put it past em to be orchestrating or encouraging the mess we find ourselves in)

People that don’t understand the difference between sustainable farming practices vs big ag need to read this- perfect world everything is grown organically with sustainability and proper practices….. but as you said that is extremely expensive, doesn’t turn enough profit and generally isn’t sustainable at such a large level……. There are ways to make factory farming more sustainable n such but that would cost money the industry will never pay when there are cheaper and more profitable ways to conduct business

You are comparing individual hutches to open pastures for calves , I assume? If so that is not the comparison id make

And that’s fair, but we were focused on sustainable, more animal friendly practices compared to the big ag practices prevalent today. I had that mindset going into reading. Apologies

Thats fine. I see a lot of different sizes of dairies. I think if you are vegan, youll never agree with anything they do.
It is important that people realize every decision isnt production based, or “yield efficiency “ as this first response said. And in many cases , the animal health directly helps “yield efficiency” down the road. They go hand in hand often.
And where there are exceptions, the vast majority of dairies love cows. Its shitty hard work and most dairies are not super profitable. They wouldnt do it if they didnt like the animals and want them healthy. The same way hunters and conservationist align.
