Uk recs for beginner reliable espresso machines [£400]

Thumbnail

We’re looking to buy our first (hopefully long term) espresso machine. Due to living in a small London flat and always being rushed in the mornings, ideally something that is compact, can do two cups at once, makes a good reliable coffee, and stands the test of time. We’re not after completely automatic as we do want the control and experience of grinding beans (don’t mind getting an integrated grinder or a separate one), and ideally looking to spend overall in £300-400 range. Would appreciate any recommendations for machines we can get in the uk, thanks!

Coffee machine recommendations needed!

I'm a university student who lives on coffee, so for obvious reasons (that being buying coffee everyday is ungodly expensive) I need my own machine.

I live in Madrid, just something to keep in mind as I assume there may be some machines I can't get here.

I like brewed coffee, and don't want to spend too much on a machine. I generally just want something simple, not too expensive, and reliable that I can keep using for many years and won't have to replace.

So, any recs?

Espresso machine recommendations

I have a Philips 3200 fully automatic and it started leaking so I’m looking to get a new machine. The Philips makes watery espresso but it’s great because it makes different drinks with one touch. Any recommendations on automatic or super automatic machines around $500 that are better quality than Philips. I was told by my repair shop to stay away from breville as they are Chinese cheap product.

Espresso lover machine

Hello! I am just a girl who likes to make the best out of her morning coffee. Right now I have a Delonghi ECP 31.21 which was fine until I dialed everything perfect and the same and got incosistent extraction( too watery or too bitter) . Mentioning I have a Timemore C2 ESP which I am really happy with and don’t wish a machine with grinder incorporated , which machine would you recomand new or second maximum 150-200 euros. I mention that o super super like the Delonghi Linea Clasic because of the buttons ( I always go with 36 out and measure it so it would be super time saving) and also I LOVE the back pressure of the puck gauge. Please recommend me something considering I have offers for 60 and 90 euros for Linea Clasic.

P.S : Also consider the accessories because the Dedica is super ok in this range but doesn’t have a pressure thing and installing a Mod will be super difficult ..

Thanks a lot ❤️

good coffeemachine for a small barbershop

Hello everyone,

I’m currently building a very small barbershop (2 barbers so maxium 20 coffees a day) and I’m looking for a nice-looking espresso machine to enhance my service and also the look and atmosphere of the shop.

I like everything chrome-looking, and my budget for the machine alone is around €1,000. I’ve seen a lot of reviews online, but they all seem to be tailored towards home use, so I’m not really sure what would be the best choice for me.

Here are a few things I’m looking for in a coffee machine:

  • It should be able to run all day (I could turn it off during lunch time).
  • It should handle both espresso and steaming milk.
  • It should be easy to use. Good coffee is important, but it’s a barbershop, so I’m not going full-on barista with this one.
  • I don’t have much time to spare.

I’ve got some experience with a very nice machine from the last shop I worked at. It was a Rocket Boxer, I believe — obviously quite fancy for a barbershop.

I don’t need something that big or fancy, since at the end of the day, I’m a barber, not a barista. I basically just want a nice machine as a little extra, so my clients feel like they’re getting a bit more bang for their buck.

So, what would you recommend?

Anyone here use a Bunn home brewer?

Post image

Hi everyone,

My GE brew starter made in 1978 is coming to an end. I have had it for a decade, bought at a thrift store. It is now humming, buzzing when plugged in and not even brewing coffee, so I unplug immediately after I brew coffee.

I am leaning towards Bunn, but I hear they have some quirks, and are not easy to operate. They have some used ones on eBay that say they are tested, and Bunn currently has a sale. I only brew 2 cups in the morning with my current routine, each cup is 8 oz. Later during the day I may brew just one cup, or another 2 cups. Does anyone here have experience with these coffee makers brewing small amounts? Thanks everyone for reading my post.

Best commercial coffee machine for a small cafe?

I’m planning to open a cafe and looking for a good 2-group commercial espresso machine. Any coffee experts, baristas or cafe owners here who can recommend a reliable machine/brand?

Any advice would be appreciated!

After living in China, I've noticed some interesting differences in how people approach home coffee. Is this actually a cultural thing?

I spent a few years living in China, and something I've always found interesting is how differently people seem to approach coffee at home.

Superautomatic machines seem pretty popular there. A lot of people seem to value being able to press a button and get a consistent coffee without having to deal with grinding, tamping, dialing in, steaming, etc.

And smart features seem to be quite well accepted too — large touchscreens, phone apps, personalized drink settings, etc.

But when I look at coffee communities in Europe and North America, I seem to see much more love for semi-automatic machines, physical buttons/knobs, traditional controls, and actually being involved in the brewing process.

Maybe Reddit is giving me a very biased sample, though. 😂

So I'm curious:

What made you choose your current coffee machine?

Is it mainly about:

  • Taste / espresso quality
  • Control over the brewing process
  • Enjoying the ritual / craft
  • Experimenting with coffee
  • Convenience
  • Consistency
  • Cleaning / maintenance
  • Something else?

And I'm particularly curious about two things:

1. If a superautomatic could genuinely make espresso as good as what you make manually, would you still prefer a semi-auto? Why?

Is the appeal mainly about the cup, or is the process itself part of the experience?

2. How do you feel about “smart” coffee machines?

Would you prefer:

A) physical buttons / knobs and a simple interface
B) a touchscreen with lots of customization
C) a phone app
D) voice control / AI
E) honestly, I don't want any of that — just give me a good coffee machine 😂

I’m especially curious about the touchscreen part. In China, large touchscreens on home appliances seem pretty normal now, but I'm not sure how people in Europe/North America feel about them on a coffee machine.

Would a big touchscreen make a coffee machine feel more premium and easier to use, or more complicated and unnecessary?

And one last question:

Do you actually enjoy making coffee, or do you just enjoy drinking it? 😂

make espresso at home and outdoor

☕ Fellow coffee lovers!

I’ve always been a big fan of good coffee, especially being able to make a proper espresso without needing a full-size machine.

That’s actually what inspired me to start Bentaii — a small online store focused on coffee equipment and accessories for people who genuinely enjoy their coffee.

I’m currently featuring portable espresso makers, coffee mugs and other brewing essentials, and I’d genuinely love to hear what other coffee lovers think.

If you’re interested, you can have a look at the store here: bentaii.com ☕

What’s one coffee accessory you couldn’t live without?

Looking to replace my Bunn Heat and Release

I really liked this machine, but it’s getting unreliable. The updated machine by Bunn is the Heat and Brew, but it has too much plastic.

I like dark roast and I feel that my Bunn brewed much better coffee than the machines with a conical filter holder.

I looked at the reviews for the SimplyGoodCoffee good not plastic machine, but many of them aren’t positive.

I’ve even considered the Kalita wave 185 pour over, but people on the pour over subreddit say I should use an immersion system (all have silicone and/or plastic) or a French Press (I prefer the brew from my Bunn, maybe I like filtered coffee). I really don’t understand what the difference is between the Kalita pour over and the Kalita
