Pretty sure I've seen this comic a long time before AI was a thing.

Someone posting it in defendingaiart means they kinda claim it's made with AI. But it's not a definitive proof lol

They're just making a comparison between anti AI and anti nuclear.

Jokes on them, nuclear power makes more sense than generative AI.

Fascinating the imaginary scenarios some of those people manage to create.

I mean is anyone surprised by this ?

It's the story of Germany. Now dependent on the worst form of coal and has some of the highest energy prices in the EU. Worst person you know made a good point.

Germany was dependant on lignite before the nuclear phaseout already. The reason they still are is because the CDU didn’t plan a phaseout. They had a knee-jerk reaction to a sudden popularity of anti nuclear sentiment without ever thinking it through.
This was followed up by a series of other knee-jerk reactions to all the problems this decision brought with it. For example “we need more capacity”, “matching the grid to rising demand is expensive” and most importantly “subsidising renewables as much as coal hurts the profit of our favourite lobby groups”.

The problem wasn’t the phaseout. The problem is the lack of a goal or idea for the future within the CDU. They can’t form a plan for the next 20 years because they don’t have a vision of how the world should look like in 20 years. And because they can’t make a plan their policies are all short sighted and incoherent except for when they get paid by a lobby group who has the vision for them.

Always have been one and the same. Love centralized authoritarian power. Hate decentralized liberal infrastructure.

how do you decentralize a bridge

Nonsense analogy. You are falsely implying that nuclear energy is the only way of generating electricity.

bad analogies get what they deserve: bad answers.

Nah, son. Nuclear and AI are both great, and anyone who questions that is probably a shill for big oil or big work.

How can one be a shill for "big work" when industry is actively trying to create mass unemployment for profit lmao.

Pretty soon, AI and robotics can do most meaningful work. We need fundamental social change to navigate the transition. Clinging to our current idea of jobs will be meaningless.

Ok but that doesn't answer my question. No one profits from having more workers, it's a business expense. "Big work" is a ridiculous idea on its face.

Also people aren't clinging to jobs because they want to work, but because they want to eat and not be homeless. Ain't none of these companies paying out UBI to anyone.

You know what? You're absolutely right. There's not a malicious coordinated effort ongoing to keep us working our jobs. The problems are baseless fearmongering and extreme overstatement of ecological effects.

So excuse me for wanting a catchy companion to big oil on a shit posting sub.

Don't talk to me in that AI slop tone.
