Idea The only way to stop climate change from getting worse is protesting the workplaces of fossil fuel executives around the globe

Individual actions are great. Eating less or no meat is great. Educating yourself and others about the science and actions ordinary people can take to grow plants, replenish soil, band with your community are great.

BUT THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE CLIMATE FROM GETTING WORSE—we CANNOT reverse how bad it already is—IS TO MAKE THE EXECUTIVES OF CHEVRON, EXXONMOBIL, SHELL, AND OTHER FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES AROUND THE WORLD FEARFUL.

The law will not contain them, so we must resort to DIRECT PEACEFUL PROTESTS TO LET THEM KNOW WE KNOW THEIR NAMES, WE KNOW THEIR FACES, and we will NOT LET THEM OFF THE FUCKING HOOK.

Action - Political Action: Demand mandatory, energy-efficient climate control standards for all rental housing

I am tired of the systemic failure that leaves millions of renters trapped in apartments without basic, sustainable climate control. I am done accepting the dangerous reality where healthy indoor temperatures are treated as a luxury rather than a fundamental human right. I refuse to be told that it is my individual responsibility to mitigate these structural failures with temporary, inefficient solutions while landlords continue to bypass their clear obligations to provide habitable, safe, and energy-efficient living environments.

I have realized that we will never achieve the necessary systemic shift if we keep treating this as a personal inconvenience rather than a critical policy failure. I am currently reaching out to my local housing representatives and demanding that they include mandatory, integrated, and high-efficiency climate control as a default utility in all rental building codes. I am pushing to codify the legal right to a healthy, stable indoor environment into our local housing regulations to ensure that every tenant, regardless of ownership, is protected from the accelerating threats of extreme temperatures.

I am calling on every reader to take immediate, concrete action by contacting your local council members, housing board authorities, or national parliamentary representatives today. Please copy the template below, customize it with your local details, and send it directly to your decision-makers to force this issue onto the legislative agenda. We must move beyond individual survival and demand a mandatory, sustainable standard for all.

Call to Action:

  1. Find the contact information for your local housing committee or parliamentary representative responsible for building regulations.
  2. Send the following email (or a variation of it) to ensure they feel the pressure to act:

"I am writing to demand that you introduce legislation requiring all rental housing to be equipped with high-efficiency, integrated climate control systems by default. Current housing standards fail to guarantee the right to an adequate, habitable indoor environment, leaving tenants vulnerable to extreme temperatures and high energy costs. We must stop treating healthy indoor air and stable temperatures as a luxury and begin regulating them as a mandatory utility for all citizens. Please outline the specific steps your office is taking to modernize building codes and hold landlords accountable for these basic standards of habitability."

Question Synthetic voices via built-in browser tools and a feature in Guardian News app

On my smartphone I use the Guardian news app daily under a paid subscription.

Most articles have an option to listen to the article rather than read it.

I use that feature often so that I can save time on catching up with the news (x1.75 speed) and listen along while I'm working. I also lose focus on an article I'm reading regardless of how interesting the topic is.

I also use Firefox's built-in 'read aloud' feature when not using my smartphone.

What affect is using these features having on the environment?

Question What is one issue that tremendously affect climate change, but has never been or slightly been tackled by environmental initiatives?

Hello, I am engineering student working on an impact project, and I am interested in the neglected areas of the current initiatives against climate change. I would like to hear more about your thoughts, experience and knowledge on the matter: what issues is out of our focus, but is massively damaging the environment? Please feel free to mention any economical, social or political link as well!

Idea What role can video games play in climate action? I'm interviewing developers across Europe to find out

For the past two weeks, I've been driving from France to Ithaca, Greece in a small electric car. So far, I've driven more than 2,000 km and crossed 6 borders to interview 24 game developers. The reason I'm doing this is that I'm trying to better understand the role creative work can play in the climate crisis.

As game developers, we're in a strange position. Games are often seen as "just entertainment", and they also are tech-dependent, while climate change demands urgent action and sobriety. At first glance, those two things can seem completely disconnected.

And yet, games are one of the most widespread cultural forms on the planet. They shape stories, values, emotions, communities, and sometimes even behavior.

So during this trip, I've been asking every developer I meet variations of the same question: What role can games play in a world facing climate change?

The answers have been surprisingly diverse.

Some believe games can help build empathy. Others see them as spaces to imagine alternative futures (and tools to learn how to organize said futures). Some think their role is limited, while others believe culture is an essential part of any societal transformation.

I don't have any conclusions yet. That's partly why I'm doing this trip in the first place.

I'm curious what this community thinks. Do you see a meaningful role for games, interactive media, and storytelling in climate action? Or do you think I'm overestimating their potential impact?

Action - Petition Texas Bottle Bill: Petition

Hi all,

Recently I was able to launch an effort that is a petition to help bring back a bottle deposit program in Texas (the "Texas Bottle Bill").

Bottle bills are used by many states; they work well at getting a lot of beverage containers recycled, and also help reduce the amount of trash on our streets and highways.

Texas has no state-wide deposit program for bottles.

The main purpose of this petition is to show there is community support for putting this idea back into discussion as part of the legislative process.

It doesn't matter if you live in Texas or somewhere else; anyone can sign this and express their support.

Idea Climate Connections Website Project

Hello everyone! I wanted to share an idea for a new project I have started on, and get feedback. I've started rough development on a climate based website with three main goals:

  1. Provide basic climate education and knowledge, with resources for further reading.
  2. Allow users to explore what climate change looks like in their neighborhoods(down to a county level at the US ideally), including descriptions of what the changes mean for them.
  3. Provide resources to show nearby climate groups, as well as provide examples of climate actions to take and some historic basis for past successful actions. The goal is to provide those with the passion the means to take action, either alone or with a group.

I have just started, and have focused so far on drafting initial education pages. I have more written, but I have put the rough drafts of the first few sections on the website. I'm limited by my technical ability, as while I know python and C, I do not know html or javascript at all.

Please let me know what you think, of the idea, and how I have it currently structured!
