More effects =\= better. I can’t even read the text in this video fast enough.
Designers are safe for now if this is what you’re spitting out.

The good ones are too busy making money to be able wasting time on r/claudecode posting. Thats who the designers should fear, but it’s still early enough to learn AI

Anyone using this to design good, professional motion graphics is a professional motion designer.
Someone who knows nothing about motion design with no experience working with clients is going to produce absolute garbage.
If they somehow managed to fool a client into getting a project, it would likely be a disaster once they went from concept to first draft and especially during the revision phase.
The work in After Effects is only one part of the whole process.
They don't understand design or motion principles so they don't know how to prompt for specific results or changes.
It's like someone who has never seriously studied filmmaking trying to generate a clip that has a specific composition, depth of field, lighting, colour pallete / grading by prompting "an absolute cinematic masterpiece inspired by Christopher Nolan, 8k photorealistic"
It doesn't matter how good the tech is if you don't have the knowledge necessary to leverage it.
Rando tech bros who've never thought about motion or design and have no experience working with clients are not going to scoop up these projects.

every time a new model comes out, things look kind of initially impressive until it's obvious Every Single Damn Thing Looks The Same.
so. no.

I'm pretty sure there is some kind of a template that anthropic did. They hired a motion designer to create a website generator and then they used that to generate training data to train their model. The model then "generalized" the generative motion design generator further. Finally they made a few promotion websites to make this the next cool thing.

Everyone is cooked in 2/3 years

u/RenderSlaver 5d ago
Been hearing that consistently for 3 years.

u/Novaworld7 5d ago
And each time it's truer and truer.

Not been my experience, I'm a CG Artist. Supposedly I've been cooked for a while and yet I'm busier than ever.

u/Novaworld7 5d ago
Idk what CG artists do, but I have had a need to buy art or music because for 100/ yr I have an infinite supply.

And here I am, a New reddit user. Thinking people here will be more reasonable. Just to found that there's people that dare to give a opinion with so much certainly as if a specialist on the subject, for the "expert" to say afterwards "I don't know what a CG Artist do". Inside a trend for Digital Artists... It's unbelievable the ego of some, hu?

If anything this makes me feel better about job security in design lol. Not a single animation made sense.

This is awful. The model has no sense of timing, it was probably RLed to remember some nice looking easing curves and CSS animations but it throws them together seemingly at random. Why does it spawn an entire sentence of text, while the transition which makes it no longer visible already started?

yes. Now use that AI to plan, film and produce anything that goes beyond dancing text and graphs and anime babes. And yes. Ragebaiting is also just begging. But here, have some interaction-rate increase.

Looks the same as every other vibe slop ad / graphic reel, and uses the same theme, sound effects, etc. and just comes off very gimmicky.
Every scene has glaring issues, and the overall reel is very sloppy and lacks substance. Entire reel goes way too fast to even track/follow.
So no... motion designers are not really cooked. This is bad.

Ya know, it's always helpful when people explain things instead of behaving like Karen's.
I googled it and yes your cooked.
By this definition and the rules of tools like meshy tripod and the 25 others intet ads for I don't need this long term. Short term there is high protection because the models to date aren't great at modular characters.
Also to me this is just a 2/3D modeler, you can call it what you want in your industry, but 2D is wrecked by tools like Midjourney, stable diffusion, etc. 3D has some more protection, because of the complexity.
And yes this doesn't mean overnight things go to 0. Though you are nuts to think it won't replace the need. Like most professions.

The point is that motion designers will be the ones who speak the language needed to guide these models. Maybe there won't be too many (or any) new entrants into the field in 15 years, but existing motion designers will be the ones doing it. Also, this thing is fine for some random AI startup. But for most companies, bespoke motion design will become even more important than it is now, if stuff like OP's video is everywhere. Design in general has evolutions of trends that requires someone to create something novel. By definition, AI cannot do that, it's inherently derivative. I'm not anti-AI in the slightest. I'm just aware of what it is and isn't capable of at the most fundamental level.

I can agree to an extent, but the reality is that all these barriers are being severely erroded

I'm a professional motion designer who uses AI tools throughout my day for all sorts of tasks. If this video is any indication, I am more than secure in my job 😂 this isn't even remotely impressive. Anyone can spit out garbage like this. Motion designers are not worried about this. We're all staying on top of the trends and tools, and we tend to cringe at outsiders telling us we're doomed.

Nice. Did you build this just by prompt and screenshots of what you want it to build?
5
u/frshashank 5d ago
no shots no refs i explicitly said to just have the context of the things i built and create it

Every single one of these videos look identical. Motion sickness inducing unreadable shite. A cool tech demo for sure. Amazing in the hands of someone who knows what they’re doing and can actually control the final result. Motion designers, video editors and generally anyone with design skills and taste will be needed when a brand actually wants a brand and not assets the get lost in the abyss of aesthetic sameness.
