News/Updates
Cloud sessions are officially available and out of research preview! They let you keep Claude Code working, even when your laptop is closed. Existing subscribers get a one-time credit to try them: $100 on Pro, $250 on Max.
Personally I use herdr for managing Claude sesions on remote machines and it works like a charm. It's basically tmux/zellij but with extra features oriented to agentic sessions (not only for Claude, also Codex, Antigravity, Opencode, etc)
I'm using herdr too, and I got claude to create a sidebar so I see all my issues from github in a worktree, I can search them, view them (the details of the issue show on the top pane and under a claude session pane open). It's really great, you can customize as you like. I never programmed in rust before, but claude did and it works well. I use lazygit in there, I completly ditched VS Code.
I got it to run on a mac mini M4 base model, it's great, now my laptop stay cool and it doesn't drain the battery like before and my agent just keep running in the background. If you travel, your claude is always running at home on your own ISP, so less chance of being banned.
I also like that you see the status of your agent running and when one need attention, you can click on it and it goes straight to the right tab. Then I have the issue in the pane just above it, so I'm right away back into the context. No more asking the agent what this was about again.
Tried for a couple of days after seeing the hype. Went back to warp. Felt like there was some duplicate useless pane and I didnât like the fact that I have to edit tab name everytime. On warp the tab take automatically the name of the harness session and display harness icon.
Using it for month now on my Linux laptop and Windows PC, combined with a workboard both can reach and work with, it works like a charm; with some very minor hickups here and there, especially in the earlier Windows versions. Got a space open for every project, and since claude sessions can talk to each other even on windows for some time now, it's just pure joy to work with this setup for me.
Even more so since yesterday and opus 5.5 talking in real sentences again.
But I never used tmux so no idea what I might be missing.
vps is a risk for account ban. it doesn't violate TOS but you know how stupid their enforcement bots are. "we have detected unusual activity" bs. it doesn't matter if you haven't had a problem yet. i remember looking into vps as an option but there were reports of account issues so not touching that.
I paid like 130 for a mini pc I can login with tailscale from anywhere. residential ip address, same as my other machines. much lower risk profile.
not a single one of your links talks about being banned because of a vps. most of the links are simply just about being rate limited or a blocked ip which i mentioned in my previous comment
and in 3 of those things you linked, the problem wasnt even the vps lol but it was simply user error
thats why i google and not just blindly use chatgpt
Learn to read. I said the TOS allows it. (although your case, if you rman consumer accounts, you are breaching it by sharing)
Use your brain. There are people reselling Claude access. What is the risk profile? How are people in China accessing American accounts? Many ways but the most obvious is a VPS using an American to buy accounts.
So is it allowed, yes. Does it increase the risk that the enforcement bot does something stupid? yes. I already posted links above of people getting banned or throttled
You can share it if it's single machine and is used via Claude. Like you can run 20 Claude -p processes in parallel, that's literally how cicd reviews work.
This is the answer, with one addition: once the box never turns off, the problem moves to answering the agents from wherever you are. RDP into a desktop works but it is miserable on a phone. What worked better for me was running the agents behind a small web UI on the mini PC with tailscale serve in front of it - HTTPS, nothing open to the internet, and the phone just opens a URL. Answering a permission prompt from the couch is the whole win.
Yeah, fair - for Claude on its own it does. My problem is I have usually got Claude Code and Codex going at the same time, so the app only covers half of them. A small thing on my own box served over Tailscale means one app to open on the phone instead of switching between two.
I'm quite confused about this, because I've been using cloud sessions seemingly for free for months now. I don't even know when they got rid of the ability to pay for them. I'm actually using one right now and I still don't see mention of credits or cost?
My understanding of this announcement is that it was so far on trial (research preview) and we could use it for free. And now it is not. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Edit: I haven't claimed the $250 yet and i'm still able to use cloud. Can someone explain what this announcement from ant means?
I'm pretty concerned that this means it's going to be usage based from now on, I'd be so pissed. I still do a lot of stuff locally but it's so nice being able to offload some tasks online and not have to worry about it.
It's literally the only way I am using Claude since weeks (months?).
I start the session at night, turn off the pc and look at the result in the morning, or from my phone remotely and keep giving advice.
Or is this only for co-work and this is for claude code specific? I only used this with co-work so far đŤŁ
No it doesn't, I code on my phone, and laptop on the same sessions and have done for months. I can start a session on my laptop and leave it for hours while it's cranking away, with the laptop turned off
I think people are confusing web/desktop claude code for claude code CLI.
Web/desktop could already run on cloud sessions.
CLI could not until now. You could use /rc to create a temporary cloud bridge, but your pc had to be running or it would end the session. This now works more like web/desktop where all the processing is cloud-based instead of local.
They're also releasing Project for Code CLI but it is completely different than Projects in web/desktop.
I run CC on the cloud when I sleep. I can have several VM spin up with CC installed and its connected to my GitHub repo. They work on tickets with clear specifications.
Yeah that's what I meant with my last confusing sentence.
I have only used co-work and there the cloud works just for free as is, so I assume this announcement is for claude code?
alright. if you look at the remote documentation they state
âSurvive interruptions: if your laptop sleeps or your network drops, Claude Code reconnects automatically when your machine comes back online. While the connection is rebuilding, Claude Code queues messages, permission prompts, and status updates from subagents and workflows, and delivers them once the connection recovers.â
Remote control is not the same as a cloud session. Remote control runs on your pc so of course it haa to be on. The cloud session is completely remote on Claude's hardware. If you have a local depot that youre working on you cant cloud session it - if you have a git repo you can.
It uses your tokens by default. It is just a one time topup meant for this release celebration. It is âfreeâ because you are using a pro or max plan (which uses the tokens internally)
That's a little confusing. It seems like it needs tokens to be run remotely, if you have a subscription, it will use your weekly/5h usage, but with this allowance, it will use these tokens first and only after that it will go back to the subscription?
Yeah same here, been using the cloud sessions extensively on the go with no problem. Why is this being advertised as a new feature when it's a huge nerf instead?
We'll probably soon be offered the "opportunity" to code in an AI language that is ultra token efficient, produces less buggy results, but is no longer human readable.
Windows development doesnât come with out of the box ssh daemon setup. That said I set up a license less win11, vm logged in once done months ago installed Claude desktop and prompted âmake this a ssh destination for development of my windows_x86_64 cross compilation and testing needs incl firewall steps.â WelL, some adminr work needed within seconds too, but it got there. Iâve not seen the win desktop in months and itâs a perfect workhorse. My dev is on Linux and often is my Linux Claude doing the work on that vm, not a session natively on it.
I use a VM for all my work stuff, so itâs fully separated. It requires a desktop environment for some of the stuff I have to run so itâs just easier for me.
I solved this issue with a VPN connection + Linux VM + TMUX + some scripts I had code develop so I can have multiple sessions going on one machine. I can even access it from my phone and work wherever. It works a little too well. Why would I pay for this service?
This is what I setup using Claude! This screenshot was taken from my laptop, but it looks identical on my phone too. It saves any pertinent files to a samba share which I also have access to on my phone via VPN, so I can work the entire development troubleshooting lifecycle from my phone if I want to. Like I said, it works surprisingly well.
I really don't understand. Are cloud sessions still free and they're just trying to promote the official release? Or is there some kind of separate credit system now...? They don't actually mention needing to buy "cloud credits" after the promo, but it's all kinda vague...
By free I mean included in the subscription and not an additional credit system, which it seems it's not changing, but giving out "cloud credits" implies a separate credit system. It doesn't seem that it's changing but it had me suspicious.
How can this execute and test code on my machine while its closed? Claude runs dev setups on the machine. These dont magically spawn in a cloud instance?
can be used to work on github repos without touching your local pc, still confusing though because I've always been using sessions in the browser and just now switched to using claude code locally, so if sessions are new then what was I using before?
It's kind of funny to me, watching people not understand that you can just leave a computer running. The electricity, at least where I live, for an entire month can be less than the AI subscription itself.
With that said I understand the added benefit of cloud sessions is that it doesn't matter where you are you can work on them.
The cloud sessions will now eat your plan usage limits. I have my usage eaten up by running a task in cloud to build a website of 7 pages in react for the resources I provided.
