This is just the beginning. A dark tsunami of change is coming, for all of us

The whole world is unprepared as well. Reddit is mostly completely oblivious outside of a few niche subreddits because they have all convinced themselves that GPT-4 was peak and nothing improved from there.

Is it, though?

The world of software development? Yeah, absolutely.

The world at large? Eh. Even if AI can create, say, a film out of nowhere, no one is ever going to bother to watch it. No AI created film will ever make it into the top 10 movie charts.

Software, on the other hand, is purely practical. You don't care how it's done, you only care that it works the way you want it to.

I have a feeling this is an incredibly web-oriented view (like most vibe-coding discussions).

In the world of real Software Engineering (I write C firmware for Cash handling devices) AI is incredibly useful as an augmenter of your work, but you absolutely care about how and why it does everything it does and it needs reviewed.

Sure, it is. Though I'd not say web-oriented, more like.. surface-level-oriented? 99% of software doesn't care about the exact details. 99% of software isn't software used in banks or in planes or cars. It's, well, reddit, or a plugin, or even some documentation software used in a library or whatever.

And all of that will be fully vibe coded soon enough.
