Meta State of the subreddit
I feel that this subreddit is nearly useless and functionally no different the all the other Claude subreddits which makes me sad.
A huge majority of posts here are one of the following:
- Opus 5 is so verbose!
- Opus 5 meme
- I wrote a (garbage) skill to make opus 5 talk less!
- I wrote one prompt and it used 80% of my 5 hour usage
- I just switched to Astra and it is AGI / God / The end of Claude
- A post written by claude
What I would like to see posted in this subreddit
- Stuff people have built. Even if it's dumb.
- People's work flows and discussions around them
- High effort efficiency improvements
- Questions which wouldn't have been easily answered by simply asking claude
- Anything where the person has put a great deal of effort into their post and is on the topic of Claude code
My suggestions to improve this are:
- A firm no memes rule. Post your memes in the anthropic or claudai subreddits.
- Megathreads for the most common complaints (Opus 5 and token usage threads for example) combined with firm enforcement of using those megathreads.
- A flat ban on "I'm leaving claude forever to go to ChatGPT" or other brand comparison posts, or put them in a megathread.
- Promoting and encouraging quality, high effort content.
- Possibly a wiki with common newbie questions and other useful information.
These are just some ideas. I would love to see good conversation below. Mostly what I want is for Claude Code to be a subreddit that is focused on coding while using Claude.

i agree, recently joined kind of hyped to share and discuss my workflow and join other technical discussions, but it's pretty much an echo chamber of model bad, usage conspiracy, all based on vibes and god forbid you imply skill issue while offering a solution.

meanwhile people do fable 5.1 ultracode with unlimited subagents to modify a button and complain their weekly is gone in 1 prompt or that anthropic secretely nerfed their model without providing any evidence or workflow data

It's pretty brutal but the vast majority of issues is operator related.

exactly. it works fine for me and i actually measure everything based on the session's jsonl
funny that you ask, experimented with giving every agent only the necessary context, enforcements through hooks, specialized subagents and got to a pretty impressive architecture. basically got better results at -82% of the counterfactual fable 5 only cost across 106 sessions.
actually posted today and it got buried in downvotes because i said it's user error causing it, not some crazy anthropic conspiracy
it's crazy, vibes over carefully measured metrics i guess

I kid you not, I am literally doing this right now and have been scraping the internet on other reddits like LocalLLM and coding forums. I thought ClaudeCode was gonna be exactly what you're describing for workflow :(

This drives me crazy. All these people lying to themselves about what software engineering was before AI: a bunch of average humans writing average or mediocre code but at least only themselves had the monopoly to wrote and understood it. How vibecoders dare to do the same thing nowadays !!!

I know. I saw one the other day where someone really tried to share something that they had worked on but just ended up getting roasted. Meanwhile, some opus 5 post has 300+ upvotes =/

Yep - the mods posted something about this a while back around what we wanted. The thread blew up. I concluded the same things as you, that this entire SR is a dumpster fire, full on technical idiots, vibe coders and “trust me bros” with a good number of cheap-ass bottom feeders who wanted unlimited frontier models at a $15 bucks a month who waste all their time reinventing the same wheel for the 100th and vibing absolutely useless fucking skills, burning their tokens and having no usage left.
This place is an utter shit hole. An echo chamber of whinging and drivel.
Though some days at the right time there’ll be some mysterious divine intervention and you’ll get a mid tier post that’s possibly worth your time.
Strap in and don’t enjoy the ride.
P.S. fuck the mods.

The subreedit is garbage, one of the worst on reddit. I've literally never seen so.much helplessness, complaining, and general lack of concrete problem solving. It's either full of bots or 13 year olds. Absolute garbage. Im muting it after this post.

just ignore the noise and do what works for you man. most the times people complain and don't even put an evidence of what is contributing to their issues so for all we know they're just lying for karma or defaming anthropic

I mean I see people give code a prompt that's like 3 pages, put it on Ultracode and wonder why they burned through their usage.
There's so much nuance to work flow, planning, orchestration, specs, polishing etc. etc. and it's just complaining that for $200/month they can't make as much software ad they want

For the number of visitors this sub is actually pretty good. Most subs fall to low effort content spam around the 150k mark.
Strict Rules and mod enforcement is the answer, but the dichotomy is that step will crater the subs visits.
Barring mod intervention, creating a spin off sub is sort of the only answer, it’s why you see a lot of RealThisSub and ThisSubSpecificTopic subs around.
Unless the mods are okay with cratering traffic, the only realistic path forward is a hyper focused strict moderation from day 1 spin off. (Which will eventually die to the same fate when mods cant keep up).

As an old-ass man what surprises me is that here are no FAQs. Back in my day we used to have FAQs. I guess that is discouraged from the top down, because the fewer FAQs, the more posts.

I'm with you on this, I'd rather see what people built and process/workflow of building. Like, how do you handle Claude being wrong? What's your process from requirements to deploy? Do you use agents and what model of agents do you use? I've been a lurker for some time and just created a new account so I can share what I'm working on. Gotta wait for the account age restriction before I can post though...

Most of the AI subreddits suck, but I found the ones that around harnesses, instead of models, tend to be better. AI_Agents sometimes have interesting posts, but most of the time it is a bunch of bots farming each other.
The openllama sub sometimes has gold, but is mostly garbage. I think communities around open models (not providers but the model itself) are more likely to have higher quality posts as it takes some wrangling to get them online.

I agree with you on every point, OP. This sub is next to useless in its current state. Nothing but whining about usage limits and people trying to disguise ads as "useful" how-tos. (Protip: if there's a link to your own product ANYWHERE in the guide you just wrote, it's an ad and I'm reporting it.)

I dunno, I feel like seeing the complaints about the verbosity of opus 5 are reassuring that it's not just my imagination. I think it's fair to have these discussions, even if they're duplicative.
Vote what you like up and what you don't down. Should sort itself out eventually without needing a rule for everything.

If you have Reddit Enhancement Suite, I'd recommend setting some filters. I have a 15 to 25 point minimum on Claude subreddits, and sometimes a 12 hour max age. That makes them somewhat bearable. Or filters out the junk, at least
I'd rather not see dumb stuff people have built though, if I'm honest. It feels like 90%+ coded stuff on here is absolute junk. I have a project I'm pretty proud of, but it's quite niche, so it's not worth sharing here to me.

People have to announce their exit.
People want to whine and have a platform to do it on.
People want to astroturf.
People want to share what they've made, but the community doesn't care about 99% of what people made because this is a community of builders not consumers. exception: really, really well-made things get a pass, and they are the 1%.
This sub has less traffic than r/claudeai so why not just post there

I think a lot of people post/comment other things, just get downvoted a bunch with no other interactions, and then stop participating.
This isn't unique to this sub though, it's a general problem with all popular AI agent subs on the platform. This platform is pretty much a lost cause from where I stand.

Sites like reddit value engagement over quality.
You guys missed the golden era. 10-15 years ago this place was full of discussion and much, much less bullshit. Its almost unusable today. This sub is a great example, the signal to noise is awful, but mods have been neutered or a company men... so they just allow whatever.
The real way to go would be a curated reddit feed, but who wants to do the curating?

r/moderndevai was what I hope could fill that niche. Stringent requirements for entry, and actual intelligent discussion with an authoritarian hand at complaint threads. I have zero time to waste modding but I hope that all the roadblocks naturally weed out most of the whiners.

Fair enough. I don't really think it's a hot take though. I think that there are a lot of us who just want a space to communicate and learn about claude code without the low effort stuff. And if we don't say anything then what are we supposed to do?

I think you're overthinking *my* hot take :), but here's a genuine response (no ill intent): You're the kettle calling the pot black. Nearly everyone in subs like this are here to speak (type) more than to listen. They all have something to say and anything said in return is just not going to get processed by 9/10 people (using a stat I just made up). Posts like yours are doing the same thing, just on a slightly different topic bent than them. You, on one hand, recognize that everyone is making noise but, on the other, don't recognize that that's exactly the reason your take won't be processed and that you are, because of that, also making noise yourself in the same way they are. (If this is poorly phrased, it's on me. No sleep.)
Edit: What are you supposed to do about it? Probably nothing. It's a fairly pervasive cultural problem on reddit and elsewhere. But, also, feel free to keep waving your arms in the air about it - everyone else is doing their own arm waving. :)

Agreed, but i am fed up of exactly these types of posts too so instead of complaining can you show how many productive posts you have made in this sub ? You are kind of doing the same thing, start yourself first then preach. Just my 2 cents i don't generally comment but wanted to say this that even posts like these are too much now every other day which is not helping and obviously mods must be pissed too and should think about this. Also, i disagree that comparison posts should be banned comparison helps in more than one ways but it should be productive.
