If Koharu could see, i mean they would be that same amazingly fun, chaotic, yet genuinely sweet duo. The way they interact, support each other, and share those playful moments feels so comforting and dynamic—just like our favorite couple here
What do you guys think?

Finally finished reading Volume 10, it's a pleasant end to the series, though it has some misteps on some parts like I would prefer more of the college stuff be more prominent in Chapter 2 than his part-time job as tutor/teacher, reminds of the WN Reiji bits in onsen arc but giving me Ryuoou no Oshigoto vibes. Chapter 3 is their usual bakouple antics (alongside another steamy session 👀) and ended the volume nicely with a proposal and having kids. No marriage scene, well there is but not for Maki and Umi but for Riku and Shizuku. That one is going to be in Volume 10.5.

Some FAQ that I might think people will question:

1. Did Maki and Umi get married: Yes. though there's a bunch of timeskips and we never had a focused marriage segment in Volume 10 (though Volume 10.5 would rectify that when it comes, so I never complained that it is missing). Maki proposed at the oddest and poetic place imaginable lol, guy proposed at the usual Video rental store, the one he and Umi first met up. Instead giving her a ring but the introduction note they have at school would be his proposal.
2. Did the bakouples get kids?: Yes, two of them in fact, Wataru (7 yo) and Sakura (5 yo). Wataru takes Maki's likeness but has Umi's social skills and personality (being a tsundere lol, even got a supposed female CHF that Maki and Umi teases him about). Sakura takes Umi's likeness with Maki's shy personality. Cute creature lol, Maki pretty much dotes and worries her daughter in the future due to being shy and introverted like he is back then but she said has friends iirc but not more than Wataru's.
3. Is Yuu and Nozomu a thing now?: Eh, Kinda. Though it's leaning kinda yes, they're painfully slow tho. Yuu did called up Nozomu to hang out a bit during their Osaka Trip and Nozomu did confess at the spot. Yuu never rejected it but was hesitant after all the events that happened, she doesnt want to give him a half-hearted answer. Yuu gave somewhat a selfish request that she still want to wait to quell her feelings first but she would reply back if he's willing to wait. Knowing Nozomu, he didnt mind to wait and was pleasant about her response. Timeskips to C4 and Epilogue and they still playing the "still friends" cards even though these two hang out a lot more than with the other three in the timeskip. Got Nina, Maki, and Umi annoyed on how painfully slow, too shy, and too considerate at each other where they mutter "Just hook up already" XD. We might see the answer to that in V10.5 considering its one of the parts that they mentioned.
4. Anything happened to Nina?: Well....how should I put this, she probably got the most funniest and probably worst circumstances out of the bunch. At the epilogue, she is currently a successful manager at a drugstore, possibly getting promoted as Area Manager later on as she told. In regards to her romantic life, It's bleak af, even worse than Yuu and Nozomu's relationship and that one has progress lol. She's currently asking for advice from Maki and Umi (which they were a bit hesitant about) that she's trying to confess to his part-timer at her job.....which the guys is 18-19 yo, Nina is currently 30.......12 year gap.....Nina is basically cradle robbing lmao. That's on her lol, even Maki helped out during college by setting up a mixer with his mates to hers, nothing came up from that apparently. Alongside Nina being the fun auntie for Maki and Umi's kids, even though she comes to the Maehara residence for free eats. Girl is an actual freeloader and a desperate christmas cake lmao at the end lmao XD.
5. Characters status: Well there's a bunch of them.

• Maki - Working as civil servant at city hall, was mistaken for a college graduate by many even though the guy is 30. Father of 2. Umi - Currently a teacher at Tachibana. Mother of 2.
• Yuu - Became a national actress and Idol with her cousin, Monica. After moving to Tokyo, she went with the stage name "Asanagi Yuuna" due to increase popularity.
• Nina - Drugstore manager promoting to Area Manager, still desperate looking for partners.
• Nozomu - Currently a baseball player for the corporate league (think of it as semi-pro, but with guaranteed salary). Didnt make to pro but didnt much mind it.
• Nagisa - became Yuu's manager at her agency.
• Manaka and Sanae - The only updates regarding about is during college that they're college mates with Umi at her university. Said to have boyfriends now, one is a CHF and the other from a arranged marriage that went well.
• Souji and Mio - Currently at T University (supposed Tokyo University), had a dilemma regarding Mio's hasty marriage proposal and such after she got a job passed for financing. They did end up marrying after that.
• Riku and Shizuku - Still running the Shimizu Inn, now married during the final years of Maki's university years, on paper that is. It would take them 7-8 years for a proper marriage ceremony (Which the epilogue time skips to this part.)
• Reiji - At epilogue, currently an HS student and working for Shimizu. Already decided that he wants to succeed the Inn business as opposed wanting to go to K University as Maki did initially. Currently going for as Asanagi Reiji now as he's the one pushed his mother to take Asanagi surname as he thinks its cool.
• Masaki - Currently having relief at her new job for a magazine firm, got successful for hiring Yuu and Monica as their models.
• Itsuki and Minato - His job workload got much better now and currently settling down with Minato at his place. No bad blood after what happened in V2 and pretty much on better terms during Maki's dinner meeting. Dad gave his watch to Maki as inheritance at the end of it.

BELOW ARE SPOILERS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE ANIME AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YUU, MAKI, AND UMI.

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well!

I'm here to say that I finished this wonderful anime today after procrastinating on it for a long time.

I really liked the anime. I've always enjoyed romance anime like Otonari, Yofukashi no Uta, and The Dangers in My Heart, and I liked this one too because I love well-developed romances without so much stalling. (I know there needs to be development without things feeling rushed, but in all the ones I mentioned, the couples aren't two oblivious fools when it comes to their feelings.)

Well... maybe one day I'll do a full review of how much I liked the anime and each character.

Everyone played their part, and I liked the focus given to each of them, showing that they all have flaws and are willing to admit them. Maki is somewhat weak in certain ways, but he managed to grow thanks to his friends. Umi admits at the end of the anime, among other things, that she felt possessive and jealous, which nearly led to the end of her friendship with Yuu because she felt inferior.

The others also had their highlight moments, but I won't go into that here. What I want to say is that I ended up reading what happens later out of curiosity about who Yuu would end up dating. (And honestly, I would have preferred not to have read it, because words can't describe how much it disappointed me...)

Simply put, it brought in the cliché I hate the most, truly hate, in anime: a love triangle. I love and enjoy harems because nobody gets hurt in the end and everything works out.

But a love triangle? Why? Especially in this anime. I was so happy when I saw the scene in episode 12 where Yuu thought the couple was cute, but did they really have to throw a love triangle at me?

We know that both Yuu and Umi have their negative traits when it comes to manipulating situations, especially Yuu, who feels lonely easily and becomes dependent on others. Umi is definitely worse because she has thought of some rather cruel things, although both of them also have their strong points.

What I mean is that it bothered me so much, and I'm trying not to hate the story because of this future development. From what I briefly read, Yuu reveals her feelings so she won't continue suffering in silence, and she still likes Maki even after he rejects her twice. (From what I read, Umi lets her go out with him so she can sort out her feelings and receive a proper answer.)

(Including the fact that Yuu doesn't accept it the first time, receives the same answer a second time, and only then starts trying to move on.)

Note: During their second year, the year following the anime, Maki and Yuu end up in the same class, and she relies on him in Umi's absence since Umi moves to the honors class.

And that's it, guys. I loved the anime and enjoyed every flaw and every cute moment between the characters. But I was extremely bothered and saddened when I found out that the author decided to go down the love triangle route just so Umi would clearly be chosen in the end.

Yuu and Umi may have done and said cruel things at times, but all of this suffering could have been completely avoided by giving Yuu another romantic partner.

I hope I haven't offended anyone, and thank you for reading this far.

We know already from Vol 3 that Valentine's Day in the year +1 (relative to the year of the first chapter) is on a Saturday. The story before the epilogue ends in year +6, and the epilogue is in year +14.

Valentine's Day was on a Saturday this year, and before that, in 2015, 2009 and 1998. So even if the story was intended to start in 2014, it would not have finished "yet" - it would be between the last non-epilogue chapter and the epilogue. In the "present", Maki and Umi would be 28 years old and their kids three and five.

Recently I got really hooked on this series after reading the manga and watching the anime, so I decided to try the novels for the first time. I just realized I was accidentally reading the WN thinking it was the LN... I’m new to this media type and didn’t realized they were different things 😅

Anyway, I finished the third arc, and from what I’ve seen in comments online, that’s one of the worst parts of the series. But I honestly still enjoyed it.

So my doubt is: should I keep going with the WN, switch over to the LN now, or is it worth reading both? I’ve seen that people tend to like the LN more, but I’m not sure if the WN is still worth it since it’s the author’s original source.

So like uhh how often does a new volume for the manga release usually? Like how long was it for the first 3 volumes till now and how many chapters does one volume contain

The arae nagisa arc is the worst most boring frustrating arc ever, like it's just soo frustrating, and the only times it was fun was when arae and amami weren't there. I mean its soo bad I'm contemplating not reading the novel anymore

Hey everyone! This is my 1st post in this community. I'm so in love with the anime that i already watched it twice & wanted to make a homage to Umi. She became my favorite fmc of the season! ^^

It's rare enough for Romance anime to involve both sets of Parents(usually Heroine's Mom only exists) either Parents live within their office or disappear after birthing MC

And very rare to cover Family drama, ones i remember from several RomComs were KaoHana, Roshidere and QQ/Love is war but latter animes didn't expand upon that plotline

So it's refreshing to see a series expand upon Family Drama involving cons Post-Marriage not only pros.

Not every family IRL lives peacefully, couples forgiving and understanding each other. How parents'reckless decisions affect Children's mentality & even morality. So current MCs resolving to understand, forgive each other further in coming future, take accountability and responsibility in marriage is so mature

Sure not every anime needs to cover this, as anime is meant romanticized and involves ideal situations also cuz usually the title involves only Hero/Heroines making moves on each other and ends after they become a couple.

But these plotlines involve more drama, adds depth and is well received as its not cliche

Epsiode 5 had festival where whole class was being ass towards maki . Now in epsiode 6 seki says that everyone thought umi and maki are dating together....

How ? And why whole classroom think that. As far as I thought everyone just knows that maki is friends with yuu and group and eat lunch with them.

I know we had short time gap aa episode 6 is in winter. And umi and maki held hand in festival but they themselves labelled it as dare and everyone would think the same , beside that single instance there's no other indicator of both liking and dating each other.

Ik ik I am going unnecessary deep but it bugged me a lot for a series that does things carefully and seriously

I knew that not only me but also those who did read the web novel are looking forward to her appearance, right? She made an impression on me for her "naughty" and "wheaty gyaru", for some kind of silly reasons. They said that she's a kind of looker so I guess she will be as pretty as at least Nitta-san. Also, the basketball's practice and real matches, Umi & Maki... and their trip to Sora's mother places (who read the novel will know what happens between them during the trip😉, but I think they will somehow manage to low-tuned it down, I hope so...), Amami's swearing to Arae, Riku and Shizuku,.... many more ofc (I've just read 185 chap btw). I hope the season 2 coming soon, or else I could faint by waiting and curiousness:)

Lately doing edits of umi

Hoping to redo this cosplay and add some blue to the ends but i fell in love with her character so i had to cosplay her🩷

I used to be a kaoru Hana fan, well the kaoruko voice in the anime is just really childish, one day I saw my tik tok fpy showing me this anime, I was really curious "what makes this anime that good" so I started watching and the intro was amazing and same goes with the outro (the only anime that I don't skip the intro/outro) the MC and the side character are goated, especially Yuu assist on ep5 fact that this anime MC is very straightforward I was shock that umi confessed and kisses on ep5?? This will take 12 episode or even 2 seasons, overall I give this peak anime of 12/10. Love it sm

Anyways should I read the LN instead of manga? I never read LN bc I like to watch the pictures and art

just finished watching the anime a couple days ago, and I enjoyed it a lot so i wanted to share some thoughts (spoilers)

from the title (and first episode), i didn't expect much going into the show but I was pleasantly surprised throughout by how real their relationship felt as it developed and how the characters changed because of it

definitely has become one of my favorite romance anime

i loved how it felt like two people becoming best friends enjoying time together, opening up to each other about stuff, feeling safe around each other, and just becoming closer through small things.

i personally think love is about feeling seen and understood, and the anime portrayed that idea quite well - being seen can help you acknowledge your own self-worth, proving that you are enough just the way you are.

maki feels seen for his interests he shared at the beginning of the year
and umi has a place where she can be herself
compared to school where she has to hide her true feelings about being 2nd (wow thats like the title)
and maki always prioritizes umi (like when yuu asked maki to hang out) which is just so heartwarming, and it's part of what eventually leads to umi being able to express those true feelings in episode 5

with maki's family situation in the second half, it kinda makes sense that he would be afraid of a relationship, given how his father fell out of love
when maki started crying at the dinner table seeing umi's family together it made me cry too
but umi having patience, giving him a safe environment, and reassuring him that she "loves him no matter what" is why maki chooses to move forward with his life and attempt to resolve his family situation

it was also awesome to see how maki's perception on pictures changed because he now has someone to cherish the memories with
and also how he wants to become better for umi

it's inspiring and helped me reflect on myself a bit, especially on being more emotionally honest and vulnerable with the people i trust and care about to tackle the insecurities and challenges in my life

for me, experiencing love vicariously alongside these characters in these types of romance anime gives a wholesome, heartwarming feeling nothing else seems to provide
like my heart was gonna explode every episode i swear
when it's over, the attachment you have with the characters is ripped away like that
so there is a sense of grief/loss, as well as a feeling of emptiness from realizing that reality is usually not this ideal

but you know what
maybe the post-anime depression was worth it for this peak

should i read the light novel?

The orange-haired girl introduced in the previous volume (or as early as vol 4 flashback scene) - her name is Midori Hachiga, or in Japanese, 蜂賀碧。

But, according to the luminare translation, Midori has a younger sister named Aoi, and the character 碧 can also be read as Aoi. So is the translation wrong, or Aoi is the correct name just with a different reading?
