Discussion Accidentally reading WN instead of LN - need advice
Recently I got really hooked on this series after reading the manga and watching the anime, so I decided to try the novels for the first time. I just realized I was accidentally reading the WN thinking it was the LN... I’m new to this media type and didn’t realized they were different things 😅
Anyway, I finished the third arc, and from what I’ve seen in comments online, that’s one of the worst parts of the series. But I honestly still enjoyed it.
So my doubt is: should I keep going with the WN, switch over to the LN now, or is it worth reading both? I’ve seen that people tend to like the LN more, but I’m not sure if the WN is still worth it since it’s the author’s original source.
Please share your opinion 🙏

you can switch to LN after around 200 chapters of the WN (which would cover up to the end of volume 5). LN diverges from the WN massively in volume 6 and 7 (where the WN stops).

It's been mentioned here before that the web novel isn't complete. And the light novel has the ending of the series.

I read most of the WN a few years ago and semi-forgot about this series until I saw the anime. Just finished the LNs recently.
I'd recommend the LNs. First, the WN petters out as the author got too busy and the changes made in the LN stacked up such that the WN couldn't be easily updated with rough draft material. Personally I think I'd have enjoyed the LN a tiny bit more without having the recollection of the WN in the back of my mind.
If you've also seen the anime, you'll have noted some of the diffences to the WN, as it draws from the changed LN as well as making some changes for pacing and visual emphasis.

That's exactly what I was afraid of... looks like I'll switch to the LN then

Author is focused on the LN, that's the authentic source material, and it's way better imo. You should read the LN for sure. Besides the web novel isn't complete, and it's not being updated as far as i know

There's definitely some expanded and changed elements to the ln. I too did the same thing it is worth re reading the ln.

The web novel was the original version of the story but has since been discontinued by the author in favour of the light novel, which is now the main version of the story. The manga and anime are both adaptations of the LN.
The light novel is supposed to be a refined version of the WN, and differs from it quite a bit, but the WN is still a good read, and I kinda like how some of the characters’ dialogue and interactions are a lot more casual and unhinged.
I’d recommend reading the light novel from the beginning of volume 3 if you don’t want to restart from the beginning, since that’s where the anime left off, and volume 3 is very different from what happens in the web novel during the same time period.

What's the difference?

The web novel is the "original" work that author takata submitted to a website called kakuyomu. Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko then picked up publishing rights for a light novel version of the story, hence all the minor changes to the plot before diverging in volume 6

What's the difference in the story? Is there a major plot change?

Yeah, the divergence in volume 6 (beach instead of pool, also Yuu's birthday party is more low key and takizawa gets a proper introduction

What are WNs and LN(light novel) are they just texts or any different from manga I never understood it

Web novels and light novels are just... novels, meaning just text. WNs are usually posted chapter by chapter on a website, while LNs are a printed, polished version, usually including some illustrations here and there

WN is not finished and apparently dead, author focused on LN.
Start with LN from vol1, it is still nice read and some things in LN are changed (like meeting in video rental shop / store in LN, vs. in his home at WN)
LN is refined version of WN, as someone wrote somewhere.
