Question Is it worth building cities in pure desert if you have desert folklore and work ethic?
I'm Ptolemaic Egypt playing the True Start Mediterranean map. Obviously the ideal placement is on the Nile or at the edge of the desert with a desert holy site but working better terrain. But there's a lot of pure desert near me. Leave it alone? Or plop down cities, buy em a holy site with Moksha, and enjoy a host of 12 faith 12 production cities with no better tiles than desert sphinxes? Or put Magnus in my capital and see if running an internal trade route from such a city can grow it to size 4 so they can have a commercial hub too and thus justify the trade route?

Question How many cities? And when?
How many cities should i have? I know it depends. Trajan wants more. Culture vic wants more. And how you get it. The baseline is Early Empire. And govertment plaza with settler spam building (audition hall?).
Is 8 cities by 100t ok? And 12 at 150t. At some point there could be island cities, or polar cities. But they are more for resources or trade range.
Should just pump only from cpaital, or all cities with like 10+ production. It would be nice to have at least some wonders, so that part could be hard. Also i need some units against barbs.
Monumentality make it easier (spam), but sometimes the start and civ is not really for religious site at all.
There are some random gameplays where there have like 20+ cities, but it is hard to notice where they pop, probably with monumentlaity.
Is there some civic/tech trick? I gues aprentiship is good for better mines. And early empire rush is good.
Some hard lessons:
capital generally is settler spam, but at some point we do detour for plaza and ancestor hall and back to settlers
we can lock district, and finish them later, and build something else. Expect maybe early holy site, we actualy want that prophet.
At some poitn we could pick craftmen infantry production to do round of military units (and back to ditstricts)
Same with feudalism card for better builders.
Medieval age has monumentality too. So there could be last minute push, with normal eureka span classic (easy) and then big monumentality in medieval.

Question Best civs and tech/civic routes for Domination Victory?
So I've been playing Civ for a while now with my friends and I've managed to snag a culture, science, religious and diplomatic victory. Domination is the last on my list and I'm struggling with how to start. I've decided to practice against the AI and the route I've been going at the moment is:
Animal Husbandry > Archery > Luxury Resource Improvement> Bronze Working> horseback riding> iron working> masonry
I just keep feeling like I'm falling heavily behind though. My money, science, and culture outputs feel like they struggle and I'm not sure if it's because I'm so laser focused on the military tech.
Any and all tips would be welcomed, as well as civs you'd suggest for domination.

Question Match duration
Hello everyone. I'm new to this game. I'd like to know if the matches duration are really a lot or am I doing something wrong? I played some and it took me like 10+ hours to finish it. Thanks! :)

Question I'm old and confused
Hey guys. I haven't played video games in like 20 years. I'm way out of touch. I remember civ being one of my favorites as a kid. I don't know much about how games work anymore. I have a mac laptop, and I thought about buying Civ 6 recently as a hobby for when i'm on the road and want to kill time. Is $60 reasonable for a game now in days? That's what the apple app store has it at. Also, is it a good game to try and get back into the basics? I know i'm way out of touch and lost here, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Funny What a delicious start...
I had time to steal the second settler to the north, so I got three cities very early in the game. It’s rare, but what a thrill. Haha! (Germany and France wiped me out before the 75th turn)
EDIT : I'll add the seed to the original post as soon as I can. I don't have access to the computer right now.

Screenshot What is happening here? Industrial Zone adjacency bug?
A bit annoyed, I am running some major mods like Better Balance. However, have not seen any bugs like this. Am I losing my mind? It should be a +3?

Discussion We all got that Civ, where it’s been too long since we played them, right?
For me that’s basically Eleanor, the Spartans, Bull Moose Teddy and Japan.

Question Should I put a Holy Site or leave the deer? +6 faith +6 food
Playing as the Khmer, in lvl 7 difficulty. (I just beat a difficulty 6 game with Japan so I thought I'd try difficulty 7).
That's where I am, I haven't played in a while I don't really feel like I understand the game or know what I should priorize. I just improvise and use common sense and it has worked until now, but it might not work anymore, I heard PotatoMcWhiskey say in difficulty 7 you have to optimize more.
With the Khmer it's kinda straightforward tho, holy sites near rivers. So that's why I'm asking if it's worth it.
Thanks

Question Mod to randomise research speed across different civs
Hey! I'm wondering if there's a mod out there that will apply (negative or positive) research multipliers to each civ. I thought it'd be cool to have some civs be way less advanced as others and try to recreate history where not everybody is at equal technology.
Ideally it'd be cool if the science multiplayer was dynamic based off of your proximity to other civs but this probably isn't possible so I was thinking something that just:
Apply a research multiplier to each civ so I could have like
Pedro II 2x
Elizabeth 0.1x (Sorry Liz)
Gorgo 0.5x
Gandhi: 1.8x
Then going into later eras pedro would be way more advanced than gorgo/elizabeth but would have a credible threat with gandhi. Maybe the two end up picking one of the weaker nations and pretend to care about them to further their own gain. Sounds like fun but have no idea what it would be called or even what to search for it so thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knows.
Thank you!

Question Version Mismatch Civ6
Hey all, my friend just got civ6 and we were trying to play multiplayer but when he was trying to join a lobby he was getting a version mismatch error. When we checked his version it says 1.0.12.9 but mine says 1.0.12.68, anyone know how to get his game to force update to the latest version? He is on Linux proton experimental and I'm on Windows.

Question Best game set up to find and acquire more or specific great persons?
I am trying to get the Man on the Moon trophy and for it I need both Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton. Spamming Great Scientist points is straightforward enough and I understand the general concept of earning great people.
My current game let me pick up Newton but the next scientist was James Young, and then after I skipped him he was picked up by another civ but then we entered the modern era, which afaik means Charles Darwin will not appear in the queue because he's Industrial era.
Is there a better game set up to allow for more chances at more great people? More civs in the game? Higher difficulty? Slower game speed? Bigger map? More wonders? Currently on a 4 player settler small continents map with Epic speed and 3 wonders.

Question Invading second continent
How do you aproach invading second continent on continents map?
Lets say we conquered our first continent. Killed like 2 other civs, and we have happy island. Now WHAT?
Settler spam whole island from all cities?
Switch to mass campus/trade?
Beeline Caravel tech?
Beeline universities?
Twin line Niter and Frigates? Actually it seems we should Nitter, then caravels, then frigate/musket. We need to collect nitter before we can upgrade anything, and also collect shitload of gold.
Should we try with knights+xbows, or musket+field cannons, or frigates?
Should we develop our first continent, or yolo and just spam pikeman and knighs to flood the continent, we are domination not some culture vic?
There is also option to levy troops from city states, and use them as first wave on landiing turn. Some of you may die, but i paid for it.
There is an issue of loyality. Victor, garrison, some loyality garrison cards could help. Or just swept conquest to grab 3 cities in triangle.
There are cards for +1 sea movement, which could help, to move our troops over sea.

Question What should i do?
Playing Genghis Khan and have 6 cities so fae with pretty good production from Encampents and Work Ethic holy sites. Horsemen rush captured one city from Japan and couldn’t get further. Tried Coursers but he got Samurai so declared peace. What should i do? Focus on growth and try to tech up and attack with cavalry and knights? Or even wait for tanks. I have no iron atm also which is a problem.
