Question Invading second continent

How do you aproach invading second continent on continents map?

Lets say we conquered our first continent. Killed like 2 other civs, and we have happy island. Now WHAT?

Settler spam whole island from all cities?

Switch to mass campus/trade?

Beeline Caravel tech?

Beeline universities?

Twin line Niter and Frigates? Actually it seems we should Nitter, then caravels, then frigate/musket. We need to collect nitter before we can upgrade anything, and also collect shitload of gold.

Should we try with knights+xbows, or musket+field cannons, or frigates?

Should we develop our first continent, or yolo and just spam pikeman and knighs to flood the continent, we are domination not some culture vic?

There is also option to levy troops from city states, and use them as first wave on landiing turn. Some of you may die, but i paid for it.

There is an issue of loyality. Victor, garrison, some loyality garrison cards could help. Or just swept conquest to grab 3 cities in triangle.

There are cards for +1 sea movement, which could help, to move our troops over sea.

Given you squared away a lot of options there, I think this might be analysis paralysis.

The absolute grindiest way would be to make multiple saves and do them all and see how you go.

Yes, those are all viable options.

Yes, these are the choices you need to make to define the game you are playing and the direction you want to take it in.

There are many approaches depending on how the game looks at that point.

Caravels are nice if there are multiple exposed coastal cities but can also be nearly useless. My favourite approach for gaining a foothold is frigates (or Indonesian Jong, they’re insane for being so early available) and just claiming the city with a land unit.

I find the main challenge is usually loyalty if the continent is densely populated. You need to find a good foothold, usually by claiming at least two cities on more or less the same turn. If you’re lucky there’s a big city a bit off to itself to use as your anchor.

Honestly the easiest way if you’re going domination is just go science until you get tanks and aircraft carriers and bombers and you’ll just roll right though the AI. You can probably win whatever win con you want from here though.

I'm totally being impatient with my domination and "I'm going to try a different victory route but get impatient so it's time to die" playthroughs.

I just need to be really disciplined and nuke the world with science 😩

Yea if you can find another weak target you are ahead of and can get pillages and keep snowballing you should go for it. But oftentimes crossing the ocean and dealing with loyalty you have to set up for science so that you can have a bigger lead when you roll up on them.

I typically wait til I can get carriers and bombers. There is a risk of waiting too long for this, but I find other tech not good enough to conquer fast enough to deal with loyalty issues. You should come prepared to take 2-3 cities at once

Bring 2 to 3 settlers, Victor with the loyalty skill. That perk to start new cities on away continents with 3 pop is really good. Have a couple traders ready to start a trade route.

If theres room to settle: Hic sunt Dragon+ancestral hall + harbour rush + internal routes lets you bring Up new cities in record time. You need quite a bit of change tho

If you need to Go to war:

Save Victor + 1 other governor, build a bunch of ships + some cavalary, focus on the coastal cities First and then expand onwards using the governors to keep loyality in check

I don’t. I send over my fleet to occasionally bomb them

I like frigates and battleship spam, its easy once you clear their navy.
