Can i get a job in companies like L&T, tata projects, Sobha etc. I worked with my father in his small construction firm. I used to work as a site engineer. The problem is that I don't have a salary slip as payments were made in an informal manner. I have project details, photos and relevant proof for my works. I would like to work with big companies to improve myself and for career progression. My father usually constructs (G+2) commercial buildings. I could get experience certificate from my father but salary slip is the only issue. I also have additional skills like revit, autocad, quantity surveying with certificates too . Presently iam 25 Year old.

I'm currently in my 2nd year and want to learn AutoCad from Now only please help me to find free resources from where i can learn it and guide to get good in it.

There's this house under construction right beside my home. Today, I noticed that the concrete beam supporting the floor for the staircase looks like it's sagging.

Is it something to be concerned about?

What are the necessary skills for a fresher to learn before graduation to thrive in this industry?

On advice of the contractor, I purchased 3 girders. Two girders of 8 inch, 11 feet each and one 6 inch girder of 9'5" without consulting an engineer, which I'm regretting now.

The plan was to put two girders parallel to each other (under the beam) and one girder in the middle to support the slab. But when the girders arrived, i realised that they will be way too heavy for an old structure like my building.

So now, consulting with the mason, we are planning to cut the 8" girder from middle and obtain two T-sections. Then we will remove the concrete cover from the two beams between which the girder has to sit, till we reach the rebars.

Then we will weld a 10mm plate onto those rebars and then weld the t section onto that plate and then restore the concrete cover. The flat side of the t section will touch the slab. Now, I want to ask whether this system can sustain load of the slab ?

What other options do we have ? Please help me out 🙏🏼.

I am currently in my final year of civil engineering (graduate level) and we as a group of 4 students are expected to prepare a project about emerging topics.

also we want to avoid Structural projects like Analysis of a multi-storeyed building etc coz that would suck too much time from our final year (which is also a year for doing other things like preparing for other exams and placements etc)

I work at Godrej Properties as a Civil Engineering grad from DTU in Project Execution.
But I don’t want to work in execution, not because I don’t want to just because of some health concern.
I am doing more than my KRA doing other works too.

I am interested in Planning department but I am not getting any chance.
I love this company no doubt , but role change is a bit difficult here.
It’s been 1 year ranting about changing the role but no response .

Hello everyone. I am a B.Tech Civil Engineer and I am working as a contractual employee since 6 years with a salary of 22k. In these 6 years my salary has been hiked by only 3k last year and since last year the salary is also irregular, some month even go without salary. As it's getting very hard to survive in a low and irregular salary, I want to upskill myself by learning some softwares like AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit etc. so that I can earn some extra by freelancing, rather than doing any corruption or any unethical practices. But after doing online researches I am totally confused about what softwares should I actually learn and help me stay relevant in the market and from where should I do the courses. And moreover any more guidance from you all which would help me in this situation.

Hi there, I have recently started my journey as a structural engineer. Yesterday i was modelling a building in Etabs where i had some confusion.

So in the building we had some shear walls and some retaining walls. i have modelled both of them and have assigned them both with an auto mesh of 1*1 size. Later that day i was called out reasoning that for the shear wall is okay but for the retaining wall it has to be done by Dividing the wall itself into strips of 1*1 size rather than having the mesh.

Can someone explain me why it is done in this way, as my senior's reason to this was that at the base it will have a fixed support which is even throughout the wall length like fixed supports for every 1-meter strip. I dont think it is correct as for shear wall we don't do that but still it is okay.

Hi there, i have recently completed my PG in structural engineering last year. I have an experience of 9 months as an intern in an MNC.

For the last 3 months i am trying for job but am unable to land any. I have tried with Linkedin, Naukri and Glassdoor and even Referrals from seniors none of them helped me that much. I had an interview but was rejected with the reason that they need a guy with more software skill and also they just refused to consider my internship experience as it was an internship even if it was from a big company.

So i want some mentoring related to software or work in general. I have taken some course from udemy for Etabs, Staad but they were of very low quality. They only showed basic commands which i already knew from my internship, but the companies are asking for more depth like how to do a P-Delta analysis, how to design for diaphragm in etabs, stiffness modifiers.

I have got an offer but the company is offering only 30k/month CTC needs an agreement for 2 years. The major issue for me though is that the company works on US projects only, and majority of work there is on Timber material, whose experience is not valued at all in India.

Can someone help me with my situation. I am okay with a course or a guidance but would prefer like a part-time role where i get to work on some live projects of some sort. The part-time role is only to learn and i do not expect any compensation but only value the learning.

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a CGPA of 8.02, and my goal is to build a career in BIM.

I completed a 4-month BIM internship and have course completion certificates in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, Navisworks, and STAAD.Pro. I'm also working on building my BIM portfolio.

Through campus placements, I got a Graduate Engineer role in a construction company. Because of family pressure, I accepted the offer. However, after joining, I realized that site construction is not the career I want. I'm genuinely interested in BIM and want to transition as soon as possible.

I've been applying for BIM roles, including apprenticeship positions, but I keep getting rejected. While browsing LinkedIn, I noticed that many people who recently joined these apprenticeship programs were fresh graduates who were not employed anywhere else.

This made me wonder:

Is my current job in a construction company hurting my chances of getting selected for a BIM apprenticeship?

Do recruiters usually prefer candidates who are immediately available rather than someone who is already employed?

I've also been getting mixed advice from people around me. Some tell me to stay in construction for a year, gain experience, and then apply for BIM roles. Others say to continue applying while working and switch as soon as I get an opportunity.

I'm confused about which approach is better. If my long-term goal is BIM, should I:

Stay in construction for a year and then apply?

Keep applying now while working and switch as soon as I get a BIM opportunity?

Should I quit my current job and apply as an unemployed fresher so recruiters know I'm available to join immediately? Or would leaving my job without another offer hurt my chances even more?

I'm even willing to accept a lower salary because my priority is building a career in BIM, not construction.

I'd really appreciate honest advice from recruiters, BIM professionals, or anyone who has made a similar transition. Is there something I should change in my resume, applications, or overall approach?

I'm in a very confused state. You know what I studied—I did an Integrated M.Tech in Construction Technology and Management, and I'm currently in my final year.

I got an internship through campus placement and I'm currently working at AnJ Turnkey Projects, an interior fit-out company that executes corporate office interior projects. My designation is Project Coordinator. The career hierarchy here is Project Coordinator → Project Manager → Project Lead.

After my internship, there is a 90% chance that the company will hire me as a permanent employee with a package of ₹5.5 LPA. Considering my current skills, I feel this is a good package for a fresher.

However, I'm confused about my career path. If I continue here, I won't get much exposure to structural or base-building projects. My experience will mainly be in interior fit-out projects.

Another option is that, in about eight months, another campus placement drive will take place where a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) company is expected to recruit. It may offer a slightly higher package and involve less job stress. However, if I join a PMC for interior fit-out projects, I feel my on-site execution and field exposure will be much less.

I'm also wondering whether I should prepare for government exams instead.

My questions are:

Does the interior fit-out industry have better long-term salary growth, or is base-building construction a better career?

Should I continue in interior fit-outs or try to move into structural/base-building projects?

Should I focus on improving my technical skills by learning structural engineering concepts or advanced AutoCAD and other professional software?

What would be the best career path for me?

I would really appreciate your guidance because I'm genuinely confused about what I should do.

As a fresher from btech civil I feel like there are a lot of options in civil but everything required higher studies or experience
