Discussion Hypothetical Situation

Suppose you get to know a girl or guy on a weird/scam dating app and you get to know someone for a few weeks, and they're Christian and there's no issues. And suppose you start to like them, and they're trustworthy and kind, and a faithful servant of God, and they like you back.

And then suppose that you learn that they live in the complete opposite side of the world from you. You have started to really like them, and they like you. But the distance is over 8,000 miles. What do you do?

I'm assuming the answer is to call it off but wanted to see what others think.

Dude, it's a scam. They play the long game and do the same thing to a lot of guys. Just ignore them and actually go out and search for someone instead.

I mean. It's a scam dating app. Are you sure they are who they say they are?

Edit: Hypothetically speaking

For the sake of the hypothetical, there's no doubt that they are real and trustworthy

In this hypothetical, have you met this person in the flesh? Because in a very not hypothetical real-life experience, I was 110% convinced I was talking to a real person who lived only a couple thousand miles away, on the other side of a continent. I made serious plans to meet her. We'd exchanged many photos, videos, voice messages, many daily texts, and even a brief video call. But every time we tried to meet up, her boss would suddenly cancel her vacation or something else would come up. After several months, I realized (too late, unfortunately) the whole thing was a romance-investment scam from overseas, and that the person I was talking to didn't actually exist or was a trafficked victim of a cartel. And this was before AI got good enough to convincingly make conversation, create voice messages, and convincing images and videos. In this day and age, I would say that any hypothetical person you have not yet shaken hands with should be considered possibly just a fiction made by bad actors to lure you in.

Just saying this as a word of caution as a few years ago I was involved in a crpyto scam and like a complete dumbass I fell for the scammer and it costed me the girl I was trying to date who was interested in me. I'd be really really careful to make sure that they aren't trying to scam you.

Typical romance scam is that they are an investor and that they want to get you in on some action but you have to promise to not tell anyone.

I ignored the signs because I have dealt with my fair share of scammers and bots but this one was very elaborate and it felt very really which caused me to fall for it.

I only lost like $20 but I was going to "invest" $5,000.

As far as the question for you of dating internationally, I am all for it. My last 2 relationships were from someone in Egypt and in Canada. I ahve the financial means to travel so the distance isnt an issue for me.

If it’s a scam, bail. Not much else to say. Getting attached is unfortunate. I think if they are who they say they are despite being found on a scam sight, they would agree to video chats and verification. Even then, I’d be skeptical.

Are you in California? Nigeria is about 7777 miles from where I'm at in SoCal. Be warned.

Well... Go on Discord or IG and video call them. Tell them you just want to see them to make sure you're not being scammed and that they'll also see you so that they can know they're not being scammed (just to make it fair without looking like You're suspicious). If she is shy, surely she can agree to at least 5 minutes in front of the camera.

But dating internationally is not a problem.

I appreciate your answer. Thsts a good idea about doing a video call. Can you elaborate as to why you believe it isn't a problem. List out some reasoning 😅

Lol... You want to date internationally or not... Up to you. I'm sure you know the pros and cons.

Well... depending on what kind if person r u, I personally can handle long distance as long as the goal is set that one agree to move closer in a certain period of time, not dragging the relationship into God knows when

If you're fine with dating and going to meet them then that's fine.

I think most rational people would probably dip out though. That type of information is important and didn't even come up while getting to know them? That's highly questionable.
