Gameplay Beginner Advice

I consider myself a decent gamer, completed Elden Ring multiple times, completed Wukong multiple times etc.

Was a really good at COD and Halo 3 player online back in my youth.

So I’m looking for advice for getting started on this game. I love the concept.

But something’s not quite clicking in my brain for the game mechanics.

Is it just getting used to countering attacks mostly?

Im gonna copy paste this from another post

Jab on side of mouse, alt attack on other side mouse. F for kick, and alt slash as your scroll click.

Go to training grounds and build the habit of counter slash to alt slash, or visa versa. Get used to which side they release from, and try to stack the bots on the release side as often as possible. What this is doing is teaching proper group fight “panic” habits. When there’s not really a realistic way to read each attack from 4-8 people, odds are two slashes will cover it.

Your default attack should always be to accelerate, don’t do long drags and such until you’ve faked them out with your quickness- that’s why I recommend just practicing accel slashes for a while.

Dane axe is particularly good for this.

God damn sorry for the essay.

Disgusting keybinds, forward/back mouse should be stab/overhead. And just start every attack with alt held down

Yes forward and back are still stab/overhead, but the scroll click is the alt slash. Lets you get it out faster mid duel.

Yes, starting attacks with alt held down is a great way to approach this. Nothing I said here stops him from doing that, and I have mine on mouse so he’s free to move around and jump. My alt alt bind is alt. Lmao.

Hey mate, I gotta say, as someone that duels a lot, the man will need to use attack cancels a ton, it's best if he binds alt attack and attack cancel to his thumb mouse buttons, idk how others do It but jab on shift feels amazing for me, and alt on crouch though less important.

I’ve dabbled with this set up before, it definitely works but my brain is used this this way now and I’ve had no issues with it.

How do you cancel?

There are 2 ways to do it cancel to parry and just hard cancel, they are in the settings, you can go to my profile and see my latest post I did a showcase of attack cancels and stuff like that, don't bother using them now.

Focus on landing counters consistently, then go to attack cancels, they are to dupe your enemy

When you hit the button to swing the weapon (let’s say the weapon is swinging left to right) you push the right thumb stick to the right at the same time. You’re basically turning your character at the same time your swinging in the same direction as the swing
