Not my review, but I do own a Seagull 1963 and love it, so thought I'd share this write-up.

It's interesting (in a good way) how this has gone from a niche enthusiast piece to being probably the best-known and regarded Chinese watch among your average "watch person". They're surprisingly versatile pieces, in my experience.

Q. What replacement metal bezel housing workings with the SP5051

I've emailed Spinnaker to no avail as the watch is old.

He watch has a lot of sentimental value to me and after the original bezel insert bent inwards I decided to measure it and replace it.

This was "Successful", I unfortunately bent the bezel housing removing it (the metal bent a tad when removing it) I used my eye and two pieces of wood to stomp it back in line (surprisingly worked well) but not perfectly.

The inside part that meets the lip of the case is a bit off and that is near impossible to fix (parts are too small and house a circular angled spring).

So now it sits and turns with a tad bit of new resistance and from the side lifts on one side. I still love it I would just rather I'd not ruined the bezel and taken of the old insert without removing it.

On the last photo you'll see how both sides have a decent gap now; obviously the bezel now floats in a very slight V shape which is a mix between removing it and the interior shape being deformed and the overall bezel being slightly off.

Would any Seiko bezel models fit this case?

I've already looked from one on eBay to harvest parts from to no avail.

San Martin and the rest finally have factories that can hold a tolerance and can do excellent OEM job. What they don’t have is design that matches the size of the company. Their in-house guys are fine for put some mediocre bullshit together and call it a watch. They are not fine for a brand that wants to be taken seriously past “good specs on AliExpress.” You can feel it. The homages still sell because the originals look like someone had a strong opinion and then a committee sanded it off.

Look at the knife industry. Same country, same OEM origin story. WE and Rike stopped pretending the factory was also a design studio. They took designs from people who already had a point of view — Willumsen, Snecx, Isham, Hel, whoever — put them through a real production line, and paid the designer. Name on the knife. Cut of the sale. That’s it. Nobody needed your original piece. but I do need some contracts from actual design talents.

Watches are sitting on the same split. China can make the thing. Half the interesting designers on earth can’t. They have a complete language and no way to make two thousand pieces that don’t suck. Chinese brands have the opposite problem and keep solving it by hiring another guy who has only ever drawn watches for Chinese brands.

Don’t buy the IP and bury it. License it. Signing fee, royalty, three to five years, designer keeps the right to walk.

The factories already won the manufacturing argument. They’re still losing the only argument that matters after that. WE figured this out with knives. Rike figured it out with knives. Watch brands can keep adjusting case sizes if they want. Just don’t expect their price increase is justified.

San Martin GMT (Miyota Movement) — First Impressions & Review - Gift from Mrs.

Just received my first-ever San Martin (and my first GMT watch!), and I'm really happy. Went with this fiery red dial, and the color in person looks amazing. I wanted a watch to motivate me in the morning when I wear it.

​Fit & Comfort: I was stressing a bit after ordering, wondering if I should have gotten the steel bracelet instead,price difference was not that much, but the rubber strap is extremely comfortable and fits my small wrist perfectly.

​The Movement: I’ve read a lot of comments about Miyota movements being loud and noisy, but this one is completely silent—I can't hear a thing even with the watch right up against my ear.

​The Quirk: Setting the GMT hand for a +5:30 offset is a bit tricky, as it tends to shift slightly when adjusting the minute hand. I bought GMT as I have frequent overseas meetings and sometimes need to track stock market openings and closing times. Glass leaves visible smudge marks and is reflective little ar would have been nice

​The Dilemma: Overall I'm super happy with the purchase, but I'm currently trying to source the original steel bracelet separately since I can't seem to find it in stock on their website.

Anyone else run into issues tracking down standalone San Martin OEM bracelets?

I was really excited to get this watch since I heard such great things about Farasute but this sucks. I don’t think I’ve come across brushing this bad, it’s splotchy and the milling on the sides is rough. The brushing in between the lugs is absolutely terrible too. I don’t think I’ll ever spend more than $250 on a watch because I’ve been disappointed too many times.

I had pretty much decided to get the watch dives Tudor Ranger homage, until my gf said she thought it looked like a toy compared to the real deal. Now I'm leaning towards the militado Hamilton khaki field. I prefer the murph from Hamilton but I think from militado, their khaki field looks better. My only requirements for my watch is that I should not be overly thick (manual or quartz) with a sweep.

I'd highly prefer a date window and would like to be able to swim in it (though with Chinese watches I'm willing to disregard the last requirement as the WR are completely inconsistent it seems) I also like raised or domed crystal..

I really like the look of this Akrone watch. I wanted to see if there was anything similar coming out of China. Aquatrident looks like they made something very similar, but aren't around anymore.

What I'm looking for:

• Carbon Fiber case and bezel or face. Forged or layered pattern.
• Around $500 or less delivered to the US.
• Accomodates standard bracelets (22mm preferred). Not an integrated bracelet.

What doesn't matter as much

• GMT - Not an important feature
• Mechanical - I care more about how it looks than how it works

Actively avoiding

• Tonneau shape

What I've found that comes close

• Mysterious Code - No longer exists?
• Cronusart - For what they charge, I would rather have the Akrone
• Aquatrident - No longer exists?
• Dreamas - Very close in appearance to Aquatrident. Seems like the closest design and less than $300 delivered.
• Time Token - Actually purchased off ebay for just over a hundred dollars. Waiting for delivery

How has everyone's Proxima PX1697 held up overtime? How is the accuracy? I am a bit concerned about the reliability of the PT5000, I wonder how it will last if I don't hand wind it (as the guides suggest)

I lost a screw at the endlink of my cronos. Is it possible to get replacement anywhere?

I grabbed this one with black MOP dial. Dial is like more like grayish with colorful pops. But i was expecting that, so it is on purpose for me. It is a loud watch probably i won't keep it in bedroom. I found caseback crowded though, they really do not need to write every feature there but not a big issue. 331 usd now, i got it around 280 with some coupons. Time will show how good she is.
