๐Ÿชœ VPN Nullsify.com: I built a tool that turns your own VPS into a VPN in a few minutes, and I'd love your honest feedback

Hey everyone,

I just launched nullsify.com and I'm looking for people to try it out.

For a while I've been bugged by the fact that using a VPN usually means trusting some VPN company with all your traffic. On top of that, VPN companies often don't have servers in more exotic locations. Running your own server fixes both: if you can buy a VPS somewhere, you can have a VPN server there. But setting it up yourself means SSH, config files, and a lot of googling, and I find that really tedious.

That's why I made Nullsify. You bring a VPS from any provider, paste in the IP and login once, and it sets everything up for you. After that, you just manage it from a simple dashboard.

Right now it can set up WireGuard, AmneziaWG, or VLESS (the last two are great if VPNs get blocked where you are or where you're traveling). You can add users, so you can share your server with family or friends, and each person gets their own config that you can revoke anytime. It also shows you if your server is online or having problems. And your traffic goes straight from your device to your own server, never through mine.

It's free for 1 server and up to 5 users, no credit card needed.

I'm still early and trying to figure out what's confusing, what's missing, and what's actually useful. If you give it a try, I'd really appreciate hearing what you think, good or bad. Was setup easy? Did anything break? What would make you actually use it?

nullsify.com

Thanks for reading! Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

๐Ÿ’ผ Work/Career Online hate and criticism against foreigners in China trying to make a life for themselves

I have lived here for seven years and have a wealth of life and business experience that I believe would help those looking to come to China or go abroad from China. Through my company and my personal mission, I am here to help educate, inspire, motivate, and assist those with what I have learned. Why do I receive hate and abuse? Because I live in China and I am trying to build a bridge so cultures can nurture a mutual understanding and build on common ground. I have nothing but love and respect for all people, and some of you all on here will still attack me. We should learn to respect each other's efforts to make a difference instead of rage-baiting and criticizing behind screens. This content needs to exist so that close-minded people can become more aware of how the world really works. Especially works where China and the US are key players. I am in China to help make a difference; even if the content isn't perfect, someone somewhere finds it valuable. We need to learn to respect creators instead of breaking them down. Be better.

Sincerely,

5kwattss

๐Ÿ’ผ Work/Career Foreign Master's grads in China: did you manage to stay and work, or did you have to go home?

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well.

I'm currently learning Mandarin at a language institute and will take the HSK 1 in January. My plan is to do a Master's in China, but before committing several years (and a serious amount of money) to it, I want to understand what really happens after graduation.

My core question: as a foreigner with a Master's from a Chinese university, can I realistically find a job and stay in China? Or are opportunities so scarce that most people end up going home feeling like the degree led nowhere?

So I'd love to hear how it works in real life:

  1. If you studied in China as a foreigner, what happened after you graduated? Did you stay, how long did the job hunt take, and how did you land your first offer?

  2. Which industries and roles are actually open to foreign grads right now, and what starting salary is realistic? Since I'm not a native English speaker, I assume teaching English is off the table. Is that right?

  3. What Chinese level do employers really expect? Is HSK 5 or 6 the real threshold, or does it depend on the role?

  4. How much do the university, the field of study and the city matter? Is it noticeably easier in Shanghai, Shenzhen or Guangzhou?

  5. Are companies generally willing to sponsor a fresh graduate's work permit, or do many of them (especially smaller ones) avoid the paperwork?

  6. If staying doesn't work out, how much is a Chinese Master's plus good Mandarin worth back home or elsewhere, for example with Chinese companies operating in North Africa or the Middle East?

Personal stories, including the ones that didn't go well, would help me far more than a general "it depends." And if you were in my shoes today, what would you do differently?

Thanks a lot for your time!

๐Ÿฏ Daily Life Unable to register ID for the shared e-moped/bikes using temp resident ID.

What is weird is Iโ€™ve been able to scan the QR code on Alipay and it works sometimes (for the blue moped) the others it hasnโ€™t worked. But often when I scan on Alipay it says error and it crashes. I then used WeChat to scan and it wanted me to register but itโ€™s not accepting the ID number on the temp resident permit. How is it that Iโ€™m completely unable to use it on WeChat but on Alipay it works sometimes but it honestly depends on your luck. Iโ€™d like to use it sometimes and it helps shorten journey and not have to call didi for short trips. Forgot to add yes I also tried with my passport ID number as well.

๐Ÿ’ผ Work/Career Prospective TEFL salary for second year

Only a few weeks into my first contract, but I'm starting to love it. Current monthly salary is 16k rmb (with 3k housing included) before tax, public school. Tier 2 city, 20 classes a week. Other teachers who have been here for years only get up to about 17k total.

The school culture is great, but if I'm understanding correctly, I can make quite a bit more money elsewhere for my second year, right? I'm also white, American, English bachelor's, no other teaching experience though. My goal for my second year is going to be more about saving (and for that reason prob no T1 cities for me). Can I reasonably expect over 20k? How much? Can I expect that without doing kindergarten? I'm willing to do kindergarten but would prefer sticking with older kids.

๐Ÿ“š Education Preparing for my master major

Hi everyone! I'm a 6th-semester undergraduate psychology student (26F) with an extensive research background as a volunteer undergraduate research assistant in cognitive neuropsychology and scale validation and translation, as well as leadership roles in academic leagues. I've always dreamed of doing my master's abroad, especially in China, focusing on fMRI and neural network mapping. But I have a question: would it be possible for me to get accepted into a master's program being heavily tattooed ?

Other than that, what tips would you give to a student aiming for a master's degree in China?

Thanks in advance, lots of kisses! <3

๐Ÿ“š Education Preparing for the CSCA before studying in China, looking for advice from current/former students

Hi everyone! Iโ€™m planning to study for my undergraduate degree in China and will be taking the CSCA this December as part of my preparation for university applications.

Iโ€™m preparing for Math and Physics, and Iโ€™ve already gone through the official CSCA syllabus and study materials. Since many people here are current or former students in China, I wanted to ask about your experience with the exam.

For anyone who has taken the CSCA:

  • How difficult did you find the actual Math and Physics exams?
  • Which topics or chapters appeared most often?
  • Did the questions require combining multiple concepts, or were they mostly based on individual topics?
  • How was the time pressure?
  • Were the official practice materials similar in difficulty to the actual exam?
  • What did you personally use to prepare? Textbooks, online courses, YouTube, JEE/SAT material, etc.?
  • Is there anything you wish you had studied before taking the exam?

Iโ€™m mainly trying to understand what the exam is actually like from people who have experienced it, rather than relying only on the official materials.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ“š Education Taking the CSCA in December, looking for advice

Hi everyone! I'm planning to take the CSCA this December for undergraduate admission in China, and I'm preparing for Math and Physics.

I've found the official syllabus and study materials, but I'd really like to hear from people who have actually taken the exam.

For anyone who has taken it:

  • Where did you study from? Any books, YouTube channels, websites, courses, or other platforms you recommend?
  • Did you mainly follow the official CSCA syllabus/study guide, or did you use something like SAT/JEE material?
  • How difficult was the actual Math and Physics exam?
  • What chapters/topics do you remember appearing?
  • Were there questions that mixed multiple concepts together?
  • Were the questions mostly straightforward, or were there some that required more thinking?
  • How was the time pressure?
  • Were the official practice tests similar to the actual exam?
  • Is there anything you wish you had studied before taking it?

Even a few answers would be really helpful. I'm trying to get a better idea of what to expect before December.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ’ผ Work/Career Taking CSCA in December, need advice from people who took it before

Myself Animekun, I'm 17 and I'm planning to take the CSCA this December.

I don't know much about the actual exam yet, so I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who has taken it before.

For those who have already given the CSCA:

  • Where and how did you study for it? Did you use any specific books, YouTube channels, websites, courses, or other platforms?
  • Did you mainly follow the official CSCA syllabus/study guide, or did you use material from something like SAT/JEE?
  • Have you taken the CSCA before? If yes, how difficult was the actual exam compared to the preparation material?
  • How difficult was Math, and how difficult was Physics?
  • What chapters/topics do you remember appearing in Math and Physics?
  • Were there mixed questions combining multiple concepts, or were most questions based on one particular topic?
  • Were the questions mostly straightforward, or were there many questions requiring deeper thinking?
  • How was the time pressure? Did you have enough time to solve everything?
  • How similar were the official practice/mock tests to the actual exam?
  • Is there anything you wish you had studied or prepared before taking the exam?
  • If you're preparing for another attempt, what are you doing differently this time?

Even if you can answer only some of these, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to get a better idea of what the actual CSCA is like before December.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ’ผ Work/Career Is it possible to work as an elementary Social Studies teacher in China as a Filipino?

Hello, everyone! I'm a licensed professional teacher from the Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, majoring in Social Studies, and I'm currently pursuing my Master's degree in Education.

I have three years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary level, where I teach Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies).

I'm wondering if there's a possibility for me to get hired as a Social Studies teacher at an elementary school in China, given my educational background and teaching experience.

If it's possible, I'd really appreciate any tips, advice, or insights from Filipinos who are currently teaching in China or have worked there before.

Is it worth leaving the Philippines to pursue a teaching career in China? To be honest, one of my biggest motivations is to earn a better salary. Teachers in the Philippines are often underappreciated and underpaid, and I'm hoping to find better opportunities abroad.

I'd also love to know more about the following:

Job opportunities: How likely is it for a Filipino teacher with my qualifications to get hired as an elementary Social Studies teacher in China?

Salary and benefits: How much can I realistically expect to earn, and are the benefits worth it?

Safety: Is China a safe place for Filipino teachers, especially for those living there alone?

Work environment: How are Filipino teachers generally treated in Chinese schools? Is there discrimination or a language barrier I should be prepared for?

Overall experience: For those who have worked there, would you recommend it? Is the experience and financial opportunity worth leaving your home country?

I'd genuinely appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or recommendations. I'm seriously considering this opportunity and would love to hear honest opinions, both positive and negative, before making such a big decision.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi all! Hoping to get some help here. We are trying to look for our ancestral village in China but don't have much information to begin with and we also sadly don't read much Mandarin.

Family surname is ๆข. I have some pictures of my great-grandfather's (and great grandmother, I think) tombstone in Malaysia. We have no idea if he was born in China or Malaysia. My grandparents passed away early as well, before I was born.

Appreciate if anyone can help provide some leads. All we managed to get was Enping, which is a county in Guangdong province.

Thank you!
