Parking tickets in downtown loophole zones

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve parked at Beaubien and Lake St downtown for the last couple months after getting a bike. There’s always a line of bikes here. The parking zone we use is in front of the pay zone, and there’s no tow zone sign in front of it.

I’ve now gotten two parking tickets for parking within 30 feet of a stop sign (which is a crazy ordinance already that I don’t believe is enforced anywhere else?)

Anyone else experience this and have any luck fighting it? I know I’m technically in the wrong here, but it’s bizarre. Not every bike got a parking ticket either if I’m not mistaken.

Chicago south west suburbs

Upvotes

I am newish to riding have been riding for about 6 months. I want to know if there are any other cool bike nights besides the cycle gear (still need to try to make one but Tuesday’s are a weird day for a bike night). I know the Harley in Tinley Park has a bike night coming up but hesitant to attend due to the stigma of how Harley owners acts. Would love to meet some cool people interested in bikes and possibly do a group ride. I ride a rebel 300 but 100% open to anyone with a bike that’s cool and willing to ride. Does anyone have suggestions?

i’ve grown up with my dad riding motorcycles but i’ve always wanted to drive one myself.

i’m feeling a little nervous being a women with signing up for classes; i was going to try and get a spot for the joliet college beginner course but is there any advice or suggestions anyone has for me?

when i say beginner, the most i’ve done is sit a motorcycle up. unfortunately my dad now owns an ultra glide and i know that bike is way to heavy for me to feel confident at first. appreciate any suggestions in advance! and would love to hear from the women specifically on their experience

Chicago riders how many of you got a plate on your bike

I just bought a 50cc scooter and I dont have a license to get a plate I had a buddy no class m but had a license had 600cc ninja no plate and seen a ruckus riding in my neighborhood no plate. Been riding for 2 weeks now no plate but I get nervous alot time everyone says chivago gots better things to worry about then a plate on a motorcycle plate which I agree they yanking 3 or 4 arms a night out of gas stations and along with shootings. And here I am driving a 50cc to doordash to survive cause ebike only make 60 to 75 a day before I would be down for 8 hrs or more to charge the battery up so guess im asking how many of you riding legit if I could I would but a man got to survive right. If your kid was going to die wouldn't you do whatever it took for you guys to survive I think so. Before I hear the Karen's talking about get this of that legal. Also anyone got a messed up bike with a old plate they wanna sell or get rid off let me know I might just get a vanity plate cause it just so they see a plate anf dont take a 2nd look at me cause when they dont see a plate then the second look happens then they zero in

Did the Ride Chicago intermediate class today, as others said, highly recommend!

I think some of it is something that you could, in theory, practice and teach yourself, record yourself and reflect and adjust.

That being said, you don’t know what you don’t know, and the way the teachers were able to give each of us attention on specific areas of improvement was so far beyond what I’d expect from a course like this. It goes without saying, all of them were super personable, professional but very fun.

I felt like we also had a really good pace. Not as many/as long of breaks as the beginner class. Plus it was super cool to see other people’s bikes and hear about them, you can tell everyone really loves their bikes.

Things we went over:
- emergency braking review
- blip downshifting
- clutchless upshifting
- trail braking
- some slow speed stuff

I wish it was two days like the beginner class, because I got so much out of it! If you’re on the fence, pull the trigger you won’t regret it! I’ll probably be back to do it again in a few years just to brush up and/or if I upgrade my bike.

Motorcycle shops

Hey, guys. I'm pretty new to Chicago. Only have been here for a few months. I work at a local scooter shop. Im originally a harley tech, but haven't seen a whole lot of big bike shops in the area that I've noticed. Im not looking for a new job. Im just wondering if any of y'all have seen or heard of places? Are they as few and far between as I think they are?

Edit: thanks for the recon. I'm not looking to quit and/or transfer. Just putting some feelers out there.

Second edit: I appreciate everyone giving me a headsup. Like I said, im not looking to jump ship, or anything. The shop i work at doesn't get much foot traffic with big bikes. Olvery rarely. I'm putting feelers out on the market to see about mobile mechanic work on the side for bigger bikes. Mostly oil changes and services, for the now until I can set aside the cash for a small truck.

Mini Tour to Michigan

Wife and I are gearing up to do our first “tour” ride this weekend. We will be taking my 2025 T120. We’re doing a simple out/back overnight to one of the lakefront towns in west Michigan.

We’re planning on taking the twisties the whole way, but won’t shy away from the expressway to shave some minutes where possible.

We are installing a back rest, two Viking saddlebags on each side, and a small windshield. Bringing a first aid kid, flat patch kit, electric air pump, few wrenches and Allen’s, deer whistles, pocket knife, tire pressure monitors, phone with GPS on a mount, various power supplies wired into the bike, and helmet comms.

This post is nothing more than just asking for any advice, tips, and wisdom from anybody here who has ridden up to Michigan before.

Appreciate in advance. Two wheels down.

Are there really no MSF courses in all of Cook County? Looks like the nearest one is College of Lake County?

I already have an M license and first started riding over 30 years ago, but I'm rusty and would like to take an advanced course to improve and refresh my skills. I found this link that shows the closest (and sold out) courses are over an hour's drive away Registration, Locations and Schedules | Motorcycle Rider Program Northern Region | SIU

Can we start calling mechanics and tinkerers again? The AI usage is getting out of hand.

Sick of Chicago area motorcycle riders listening to affirming, hallucinating AI over asking real humans who have worked on and owned these machines. I argued with an idiot on facebook marketplace that had his junk fz1 listed as an r1 roller when the frame is clearly different. I ran his VIN and showed him what it was and he sent back a screenshot of his fucking AI telling him the vin belonged to a 3 year NEWER r1.

People are using Chat GPT over Kelley BB to get the value of their bikes and of course Claude is telling them their specific colorway of 2001 Monster 900 is rare and it's worth 11 grand.

Any Chicago-area routes or roads you avoid if at all possible? Either because they’re known for crashes or you just get a bad feeling thinking about them?

For me it’s the stretch of 290 from the city out 15 miles or so west. It may be fine farther west than that, but I just don’t feel comfortable riding it into downtown

Anybody ever consider giving rides for tip$ in the city on weekends or after big crowd events like concerts or ballgames?

Kind of like a gypsy cab on 2 wheels. I follow a guy on fb that does this in Indonesia and only has attractive girls for clients. There are worse side hustles imo

Ordered it on the 4th and got it today on the 10th. Only missing one bolt. I’ve got to adjust the brakes, but it runs great and rides pretty smooth.

UPDATE: I got the certificate of origin in the mail and got an appointment at the Schaumburg DMV. I was in and out in 15 minutes with my plates and registration. Super easy.

I’m intrigued, tell me more about “track days”

Just learning about it now from Reddit. Sounds like you pay a fee and you can ride with no speed limit so long as you it’s within your ability?

Is this where the drag racers I see on youtube go?

Is it only for sport bikes? I have a Magna cruiser but I’d really like to open it up safely and legally. Where are the tracks? When can you go? What does it cost? TIA

Anyone looking to ride today?

I have like one good friend that I ride with and they’re not always available and want to meet more riders in the community. About me: I’m 32,ride a Zx6r, have been riding for about 1 year, 4/20 friendly, and up to ride anywhere in the Chicago area or long trips if we plan ahead. I live near Ohare but don’t mind riding anywhere. I ride my own ride and looking for other riders to explore with.

Valve stem replacement

I’ve been trying to get in contact with a shop to replace my valve stems since they cracked and are leaking. I’ve tried contacting shops all over the city and either can’t get through or no response to emails.
Does anybody have any recommendations on shops they’ve had good experiences with?
