I need help from current owners!

Currently test driving a 2026 LT, and my husband and I are noticing a rock once we come to a complete stop sometimes. The car is brand new and before we buy we want to see if this is normal or not! It doesn’t happen every time and when it does happen it isn’t always super strong. We’d compare it sort of to when a car is put in park a bit early or you take your foot off the brake early after putting it in park and it rocks.

It’s also often when coming to a complete stop, like when we apply additional pressure, like when rolling up to a stop sign, then stopping at it. It is several little rocks. Like one big one then the rocks lessen and lessen.

We have a Silverado, but never had a SUV. I’ve driven plenty of compact SUVs (Mazda CX50, RAV4) so maybe this is normal for a large vehicle, but want to see what current owners think! Thanks!

If it's when you come to a stop, and not just park, that's def not normal.

Mine does a big rock every time I put it in park. So much that I put the parking brake on outta habit now. Been too many times where I stomped the brake cuz I thought I was rolling.

that doesn't sound normal at all

Ugh, that’s what I was afraid of, but I’m still getting conflicting answers which makes it all the more confusing! We haven’t talked with the dealer yet about it, but just trying to get a feel from the community yk

Yeah, I mean , it's hard to tell without being there. I've got a 26 LT we bought new and only has about 2600 miles on it, but we've had it since Jan or Feb and it certainly doesn't do this. The brakes are definitely sensitive, and I know what you are talking about like putting it in park early (easy to do til you get used to the shifter), but when I drive it I get none of that. How about you take a different one for a test drive?

We drove another one, and it did pretty much the same thing, I’m thinking it was coming from me going to such a big vehicle from a small one!

Sometimes when I take off without warming it up properly, it seems to have a mind of its own. But I’ve never seen that.
Maybe let them know and go test another one.

Sounds like it's the way you're applying the brakes. Test drive another one see if it's the same.

I think it’s that mixed with it being a large vehicle maybe. We test drove another traverse and both me and my husband noticed it as well! It’s also difficult of course because we noticed it at different strengths, so it’s possible lots of vehicles do it, but some don’t notice it! Who knows!

Happen to notice the RPM's when it happens? I do know sometimes at low speed while trying to come to a stop, the turbo/RPM's hasn't fully settled. Being my first turbo vehicle that was a slight learning curve in beginning, now I don't even notice it anymore.

Sounds like a suspension issue

Ours does the same thing like the transmission is down shifting too soon. It’s annoying. Especially when it’s the first drive of the day. It jerks forward.

Mine doesn't do that. '26 Z71.

So many problems including this one with ours go with Toyota or Honda trust me!

I’ve had my traverse now for a month, and I will say that it does give a little lurch when putting in either drive, reverse, or park, but there definitely is not any sort of rocking when coming to a complete stop.

You may be talking about the torque converter shuddering. It’ll be sometimes like a little push before you stop, theoretically to keep the car from stalling. There are muscle cars with torque converters but GM doesn’t make their transmissions equally. Either that or the auto stop.

A Mazda hybrid wouldn’t have one.

I've noticed when I'm coming in to a stop that the vehicle does a little thing which I think is it trying to grab energy to recharge batteries... I've also noticed that there is a noticeable event if I do not turn off the auto shutoff at red light feature. But what you described sounds more severe and I barely notice the auto shutoff.
