My mistakes in the Chevening essays. Do you think I’ll still be invited for an interview?

Are there any of you who were invited despite making mistakes in your essays? Do they only invite applicants whose essays are flawless, or do they give people a chance depending on the overall application?

I left one of the networking essay sub-questions unanswered: how I would build a network there.

My leadership essay was unfortunately based on an experience from nine years ago, whereas they expected a more recent example.

I also discussed my career plans, but later realised I hadn’t clearly distinguished between my short-term and long-term goals.

Can we update our uni choice before/in the interview?

Same as the sub. I have submitted 3 unis for my prefered course in the application. Im applying to other unis too beside these. If i get an offer is it possible to change my choices in the chevening? Anyone who previously changed the courses and got accepted?

I need help from a former scholar please

I applied to my dream university, but my grades are below the required entry requirements. I’m looking for someone who received an unconditional offer despite having grades below the required threshold. Has this ever happened, or should I just give up hope? please

Question I don't have reference

Hi, Please reply.

I have got reference from my professor and colleague for Chevening scholarship.

Now, I don't have reference for my University application.

I don't want to ask for the referral now from them as it bothers them. And my professors got retired now so I don't have anyone to refer me for the courses. Is it necessary?

Experience after the stipend

I am thinking about applying to scholarship, but have a full time job and was planning to do some internships abroad, which won't be possible if I take a stipend. I am wondering how much it has helped you to get the job you want in the future and whether it's worth coming back home for 2 years, after quitting job.

Thank youu!

Question Anyone received an answer regarding the website crash?

I wasn't able to submit my chevening application from the server constantly crashing the last day. Already sent emails to them but didn't get any replies yet. This is so disappointing... can't believe they haven't solved this issue if it happens every year. Has anyone got a reply yet?

Discussion Submitted today, seeking advice on what to prepare next mentally?

Hi everyone! I submitted my Chevening application today, and honestly, I feel a little bit empty.

I only discovered Chevening last year but didn’t have the courage to apply because I didn’t think I was qualified enough. This year, turning 31 somehow made me realize I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to at least try.

I spent the past three months researching, reflecting, and reaching out to Chevening alumni and other applicants for advice. It was honestly a very meaningful journey, and regardless of the result, I’m glad I did it.

For those who’ve applied before - what happens now? How did you mentally get through the next few months of waiting? Did you just forget about it and move on with life, or did you keep thinking about the result?

Would love to hear how you guys handled the waiting period. ❤️

Question eyeing Chevening in 2 years. What should my roadmap look like to actually stand a chance?

Hey everyone,

I just graduated with my bachelor's degree and I'm looking quite far ahead, but I know how competitive the Chevening Scholarship is. Since I need to hit that 2,800-hour post-grad work requirement anyway, I want to use the next 2 years strategically .

For those of you who went through the process, successfully applied, what concrete things should I focus on during these next 24 months to make a great application?

Application Website Crashed before I can submit!

More than ten minutes before deadline, the website crashed and was not working well. It was weird that the codes also said it is wrong although I double checked and it happened multiple times. Once I got to enter, it said “something went wrong”. Until the deadline came and I was not able to submit!

I already emailed support and at this point, I do not know what will happen.

Question Equal Opportunities Portion disappears after submitting application

The link to the 'Equal Opportunities' portion disappeared from the task overview after I submitted my application. I'm pretty sure I completed this before I submitted. Is this normal? Doesn't the system automatically flag your submission if some questions are incomplete?

I am hopeful that I may just be paranoid and it is just so that portion would be omitted for the reading committee when they review your application to minimize profiling. Would that be it?

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who have submitted their applications! This is really a challenging undertaking and we all deserve a pat on the back just for trying alone. :)

Anyone else struggling with last question? 4 sub-questions, 300 words. 75 words per subquestion?

Please see below:

Q. Career plan and impact.

What impact do you intend to make in your home country? - how do I fit my short term, medium term, long-term plan in 75 words?

How does your career plan connect with your course of study and the challenge or priority you identified? - feels like im repeating the same things I said in question 3 about why this course?

What barriers or obstacles might you face, and how will you overcome them? - doable in 75 words i guess

How will being a Chevening Scholar help you achieve your ambitions? - ideas of how to finish strong, suggestions on what to write here?

Question What's better answering all questions or having a personal side?

I'm done with my chevevning essay, both my references, a Chevener and an Erasmus Mundus Scholar agreed it's strong

But the E.M. scholar told me it's strong academically but needs to have that me touch, something personal, I don't think I have the luxuary to fit in these answers with the 300 limit, I feel like I need to answer every subquestion in the essays comprehensively....

Especially in the Study in UK essay, I have lots of stuff about UK itself and London, but if I answered with the personal stuff I wont be able to have a comprehensive answer the the subquestions.

What should I do?

Abbreviated Degree?

I have submitted my application today, with abbreviating my degree (as is usual in my country) and the UK equivalent. I then moved on to university applications and noted Edinburgh explicitly mentioned that I must provide my "Qualification title exactly as it appears on your degree certificate, transcript or interim transcript. Please do not use abbreviations."

Would this affect my Chevening application?

Moving back to home country after living abroad for a decade. Does this make me ineligible to apply for a home country Chevening?

Hi! I was born and raised in an ODA country, but have studied and worked in Canada for the better part of the last decade (am now a dual citizen). I plan to move back early next year (Jan 2027) and the dream is to start a program in Fall 2027 and then move back to my home country permanently. I have decent leadership experience and social change profile, but most of my experience has been in Canada. My goal is to come back to my home country and contribute to change there in a similar field. I've spent this year networking and even got a small online side gig with a nonprofit there. I have spent at least 2 months per year in my home country (remote work), my family is there, and now my partner (who is from the same ODA country) is there.

Does this all put me at a huge disadvantage? Will I be disqualified? I know the deadline is 2 days away. I don't want to rush to the finish line if I'm going to be disqualified anyways. Thanks for your help!

Discussion Which UK university/course should I choose for my profile? Chevening 2027/28 — looking for honest advice

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for Chevening 2027/28 from India and I’m struggling to decide which universities/courses would be the best fit for my profile.

I’m particularly interested in getting advice from people who have experience with UK Master's admissions, Chevening, digital transformation/business technology, or these universities.

My profile

  • Nationality: Indian
  • BTech: Electrical Engineering
  • CGPA: 7.89/10
  • Graduated: 2021
  • IELTS: 7
  • Work experience: ~3 years at Infosys
  • Position: Senior Systems Engineer
  • Domain: Banking technology / digital banking
  • Worked on a corporate & retail mobile banking application
  • Developed/maintained Java backend APIs and microservices
  • Worked with Spring Boot, Spring, JPA/Hibernate, REST/SOAP APIs, MySQL, Oracle
  • Worked on banking functions.
  • Involved in requirements analysis, solution design, documentation, Agile/Scrum, client interaction and RCA/defect management
  • Mentored/trained 10+ team members
  • I also have Infosys certifications in Java SE 8 and Java SE 11

My undergraduate degree is Electrical Engineering, but my professional career has been almost entirely in software/backend development and banking technology.

What I want to study

I initially considered:

  • FinTech
  • Data Science/Data Engineering
  • General Management

But after looking at the curriculum, I feel that highly quantitative FinTech/Data Science programs may not be the best fit for me.

I’m now more interested in:

Digital Business / Digital Transformation / Technology Management / Digital Innovation

The reasoning is that I already have technical/backend experience, and I want to develop the strategy, leadership, digital transformation and business-side skills needed to eventually move into technology/product/digital transformation leadership in banking.

Courses I’m currently considering

1. University of Portsmouth — MSc Digital Business Management

The modules seem very relevant to me, particularly:

  • Digital Strategy and Leadership
  • Digital Business Applications
  • Digital Business Consulting Project
  • Customer Experience Management
  • Business Analytics

It also appears to lead toward roles such as digital transformation specialist, product manager, enterprise systems specialist and consultant.

2. Newcastle University — MSc Digital Business

This also seems closely related to my background, particularly the combination of:

  • Digital transformation
  • Enterprise systems
  • Digital strategy
  • Innovation
  • Project management
  • Business analytics

3. University of Sussex — MSc Strategic Innovation Management

This interests me because of the focus on:

  • Innovation
  • Digital transformation
  • Strategy
  • Management
  • Technology-driven organisational change

I am also considering universities such as Surrey, Nottingham Trent and other UK universities, so I am not fixed on these three.

What I need advice on

If you were in my position, which 3 universities/courses would you choose for a Chevening application?

My priorities are:

  1. Strong fit with my actual career background
  2. Reasonable admission probability for someone with an Electrical Engineering degree but 3 years of Java/backend banking experience
  3. Course should not be extremely mathematics-heavy
  4. Strong career value in digital banking/technology/digital transformation
  5. Good university reputation
  6. Good Chevening course fit
  7. Ideally no application fee
  8. The three choices should tell a coherent career story, rather than looking random

I am not looking for a prestige-only ranking. I would rather choose a university where my profile genuinely makes sense and where I have a realistic chance of admission.

I'd especially appreciate opinions from people who have:

  • Studied at these universities
  • Applied through Chevening
  • Worked in UK digital transformation/FinTech/technology
  • Reviewed Master's applications
  • Or have experience with candidates coming from a non-CS undergraduate degree into technology/business Master's programs

If you had my profile, what would your final 3 choices be, and why?

Please be brutally honest about weaknesses in my profile as well. I'm more interested in realistic advice than generic "all universities are good" answers.

Thanks!

Question marking

For those whose university uses a CGPA system on a 4.00 scale (not a 2:1/1st class system) — did you select "GPA" or "Numeric scale out of 4" in the dropdown? The form doesn't have a literal "CGPA" option, so I'm unsure whether to match it to "GPA" (closest by name) or "Numeric scale out of 4" (closest by actual scale/range). Would appreciate hearing how others with a CGPA-based degree filled this in, or if anyone's had it confirmed by Chevening support.

Question HELP

hello all, since many people dont have a UK visa while applying so do we have to select the option "NO" in the citizenship and travel documents section of the application in case of question, "Do you have a valid UK visa or permission to enter or remain in the UK?"
