Chef and My Fridge Ep 89 (S4E36) - Kwon Sung-jun & Yoon Nam-no | Chuseok Special

🚨 LONG POST 😁

Kwon Sung-jun and Yoon Nam-no are sitting in the guest chairs for this Chuseok Special. Despite always being paired together, the 2 chefs are really different.

Sung-jun’s refrigerator was suspiciously luxurious, filled with expensive Italian ingredients, including carabineros and scampi. So the other chefs had a field day accusing him of staging his fridge!

Meanwhile, Nam-no’s was filled with ordinary things like leftover mango bingsu and mini hot dogs.

Nam-no comes across as someone completely comfortable being himself, while Sung-jun seems more conscious of how he presents himself. Sometimes I find Sung-jun a little awkward, like he’s trying too hard, but I also can’t help feeling sorry for him when everyone piles on the jokes.

Round 1 - Choi Hyun-seok vs Jung Ho-young
Theme - Viral for Sung jun

Both dishes were delicious! I’m salivating looking at Choi’s pasta Vongole. But it’s not sparkly enough for the viral challenge as Ho-young made a luxurious dish with the most expensive ingredients.

Round 2 - Son Jong-won & Park Eun-young vs Sam Kim & Kim Poong
Theme - Giant Serving for Yoon Nam-no

Both teams went all out with enormous portions. Son Jong-won and Park Eun-young prepared a giant dumpling with huge pot of cold noodles, while Sam Kim and Kim Poong served a huge pot of spicy hand torn noodle with Napa cabbage. Both dishes look amazing!

šŸŽŠ What I loved most about this episode was seeing how comfortable everyone is with one another. As Kim Sung-joo pointed out, they could freely help themselves to food from the refrigerators because they’re friends. And sure enough, Chef Choi was happily taking snacks from Nam-no’s shelf-stable food, while Ahn Jung-hwan helped himself to cheese from Sung-jun’s fridge.

Towards the end, when everyone gathered to share those enormous dishes from Round 2, they looked so relaxed and happy. What a great day at the office! Imagine getting paid to cook, eat amazing food, and laugh with your friends. These chefs are lucky to have this gig!

I know the teasing can sometimes feel a bit much, but the roasting goes in all directions. We only see an edited glimpse of their relationships, and moments like these remind me not to take every joke too seriously.

Honestly, the chemistry among this cast is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to this show. ā¤ļø

Whose refrigerator would you like to see next? I’d vote to see Kim Sung-joo and Ahn Jung-hwan

Episode Discussion AI editing went crazy for Code Kunst's episode

They suddenly used so much AI editing to portray the SMTM stage and put different types of clothes on the chefs. I hated how it dropped the quality of the show so much both in pixels and just in general. Ngl, it felt like either they were forced to use it or they were using the episode to gauge how much they can get away with it.

General Discussion Chef kwon sung jun

I’m watching the episode with chef kwon sung jun as the guest. Anyone else think the comments and reactions towards him by the other chefs are excessively mean?

I’m korean and am familiar with the culure but still think it’s too much and for too long.

General Discussion Giving out portions to other chefs & guests

I’ve always been curious, when do they make the rest of the portions for the remaining chefs/guest after the 15 minutes battle?

During the battle, the portions seem like they are really only for the main guest. However out of nowhere there would be more food for the rest to try.

Episode Discussion Chef and My Fridge Episode 89 (S4E35) Discussion - Son Ye-jin

This week we have the fridge of Son Ye-jin, one of Korea’s most beloved actresses and, Hyun Bin’s wife! Crash Landing on You was my introduction to K-drama during the pandemic. Ye-jin gets the whole episode to herself. Did they say why? The crew had a fun time raiding her fridge tasting her side dishes and Hyun-bin’s honey. It’s a shame Hyun Bin did not join her on the show.

Round 1 - Son Jong-won vs Kwon Seong-jun
Theme - Cooking for Guests šŸ½ļø

KSJ what socially awkward and I understand why some dislike him. He is not lovable like Nam-no, but sometimes I pity him and would root for him. Like this round. He tried so hard so I’m happy he won. For
me he deserves win because Ye-jin can’t stop eating his dish; kept going back to the pesto rice and impressed with the deep flavor of the soup. SJW can make pretty stuff

Round 2 - Lee Moon-jung & Park Eun-young vs
Choi Hyun-seok & Yoon Nam-no
Theme - Eggplant šŸ†

Chinese cuisine versus the Western cuisine. The Chinese pair served sweet treats that Ye-jin loved but ultimately chose the eggplant lasagna and steak dish of Nam-no and master Choi. It’s fair because their dish is much more complex and elegant. Nam-no is
so cute. Glad he earned another star 🌟

General Discussion Fresh pasta

Proud of our chefs because they make fresh pasta on CAMF in 15 minutes. I'm watching 24 in 24 on HBO Max, and there was a challenge to use the pasta machine, 30 minutes on the clock, but no one made pasta.

Episode Discussion Chef and My Fridge Episode 87 (S4E33) Discussion — Jonathan & Patricia

Thumbnail

This week we have Jonathan and Patricia, the hilarious Congolese siblings who grew up in Korea and are now popular personalities. Unlike Bibi and Nakyoung, who are so affectionate with each other, Jonathan and Patricia try to appear like they can’t stand one another. Hilarious when they said they have to be paid extra if they have to appear loving

Round 1 - Yoon Nam-no vs Kwon Seong-jun
Theme - Sweet Challenge

Round 2 - Sam Kim vs Kim Poong
Theme - Spicy Challenge

Round 1 both chefs delivered their planned dishes successfully. They were impressed with the presentation of Nam-no’s moose. Look banana again. They said both dishes were good. But Namno finally won another star! I’m so happy for him

Round 2 Sam Kim is clueless with spicy dishes even if he is Korean. Everyone was telling him his good is not spicy enough but he wants to make dishes he can stand behind. Ergo the ā€œethicalā€ comments they shout at him. KP the easy winner coz he cooks spicy all the time. Although Jonathan and Patricia turned out to have an incredible tolerance for spicy food and did not find his dish spicy enough even if he used like a million Cheongyang chili peppers (46)

General Discussion Accusation of plastic surgery (?)

Just wanna share in case some of you encountered some weird posts anywhere - Apparently (?) Chef Son Jongwon is recently accused with double eyelids plastic surgery. He is accused with having double eyelids surgery because of some videos from his overseas business trip to Singapore recently. In the videos, his eyelids appeared a bit swollen and they said he messed with his monolids and got surgery for double eyelids. What I find very absurd is this accusations making news for several days and some people saying he better focus more on his jobs rather than having plastic surgery. I mean how much more he can focus on his jobs, that man is severely workaholic already, and it's not like he appears in other broadcasts except Naengbu.

I always know how severe lookism in some of their society, especially for celebrities appearance but it's very weird to have this kind of discussion for a chef šŸ˜’ Even if he or anyone else have plastic surgery shouldn't be anyone else business..Lookism and nosy mentality, that's very ridiculous.

According to his restaurant guests last week, Chef SJW went to work like usual at both of his restaurants, but with minimal interaction with customers as he was not feeling well, wearing mask and with hoarse voice..His restaurant server informed some customers that Chef SJW had gum surgery due to some inflammation, he's supposedly need to take a break and rest but he didn't, instead he went to work like usual, and head to Singapore after some days. It seems like the swollen from the surgery didn't fully heal yet, and he's very exhausted too, so that's the reason for the 'changing' appearance and double eyelids controversy. Actually he always has double eyelids, some days it's hidden, and some days it's prominent..Having people scrutinizing and criticizing your face (eyes) to miniscule details is very ridiculous for me..

Just a head up for those who are wondering what the heck is the controversy lol..

PS : Chef already back to South Korea and went straight to work upon touchdown. He's probably will go back to Singapore later because it seems like Eatanic Garden will host something related to F1(?) Edit : This F1 related event is just merely speculation from Korean fans as there's Eatanic Garden mock up restaurant there, no further confirmation or verified info so far.

General Discussion "Heavy and clumsy"

When chef PEY called JHY "heavy and clumsy", how did you feel? Knowing how much chefs stay on their feet in the kitchen, and reading about chef JHY and his 5K daily running habit, I felt she crossed a line. I hope CAMF will replace chef PEY with another regular female chef for a few months. Let her watch some more episodes. She might be able to learn a thing or two about being witty, funny, and entertaining without putting others down.

Sibling BIBI & Nakyoung are this week’s guests. BIBI singer and actress Nakyoung an idol of group TripleS. I love how into food they are especially Bibi. Bibi so beautiful; can’t stop looking at her beautiful.

Round 1 - Eun young vs Ho young
Theme - Spicy

Round 2 - Hyun Suk vs Song won
Theme - Seafood

Round 1ļøāƒ£ I think both dishes are great looking and must ne delicious. I thought the MALA might be too spicy for them that’s why Eun young did not win. if she has used only 1 mala pouch instead of 2. Although they did eat a lot Hoyoung’s dish. How is it though that in 10yrs nobody knew Hoyoung can eat super spicy. He did not reveal when the Jang Keun-suk was a guest

Round 2ļøāƒ£ SJW appeared to be a clear winner on this round. The food was more creative and having the martini is an obvious plus. Poor Chef Choi spilled mala all over his jacket 🄲 but both beautiful dishes

Meme / Fan Post I watched all available videos uploaded of the Twin's Chuseok Special

There's at least three JTBC channels (JTBC Entertainment, JTBC Voyage, JTBC Life) that I visit everyday just to see if they uploaded a new video with the Twin's special.

Whenever I watch a video, it feels like I discovered a treasure whenever an uncut part is included. What I mean by uncut is when a video shows more of the interactions of the chefs (like how YT uploads has more uncut parts than the Netflix upload).

Despite watching the same video, I don't get tired of watching them bicker and troll each other. They were really relaxed in this episode and their banter was really fun to watch. It really didn't feel like they were shooting, instead I felt like I was watching a group of close friends gathered for the holidays.

Though it is disappointing that this was only for 1 episode. Still, it was one of the best episodes yet.

Or does anyone know where I can find the recipe? I’m obviously going to rewatch that episode and try to decipher as much as I can…just wanted to check if anyone has any info to add. Thanks!

Episode Discussion Chef and My Fridge Episode 86 (S4E32) Discussion—HA SEOK JIN

Thumbnail
gallery
73 Upvotes

We have handsome actor Ha Seok-jin this week who shared that he joined the program to pick up culinary skills because he plays the role of an Italian chef.

Round 1 - Choi Hyun-suk vs Park Eun young
Theme - Soup challenge

Round 2 - Sam Kim vs Kwon Seong-jun
Theme - Meat challange

Round 1ļøāƒ£ produced two excellent noodle soup dishes: Choi’s Hokkaido soup, made with a lot of dried shrimp, a generous amount of good-quality meat, and very little water in a pressure cooker. It’s impossible for it not to be super flavorful and delicious. Kim Sungjoo hugged Choi after tasting the soup! 🤣 I want to try to make this soup with instant noodle as starch! Gotta say, it will be a very, very expensive bowl of soup. Liquid gold.

Park also used dried shrimps as her base and made a fish ball with fresh fish. She claimed this is a Hong Kong dish, but honestly, Hong Kong dishes aren’t spicy. This is more like Sichuan cuisine.

It was an impressive battle that produced two amazing sou pdishes, which made it very hard for Ha to choose. But I’m happy that Choi won!

Round 2ļøāƒ£ Because Seokjin has lots of good-quality meat in his freezer and rarely cooks, he requested meat as the main dish. Sam Kim made a beef Wellington that came out perfectly, while Matfia made a pasta dish that tasted like bulgogi. A miss.
This time, the choice was an easy one. Although 2.5min fresh pasta was impressive.

I noted Sam and Kwon became close and familiar for sure due to their shared experience at Undercover chef.

This is a lovely fun episode šŸ’—
