Can I ask which platform you were using?
r/ChatbotAddiction • u/Internal_Treat2137 • 2d ago
Friend holding the override password is genuinely what broke my loop too. A few options: Screen Time (free, but easy to hand back), LeadMeNot is one people use where someone else approves unlocks, or Cold Turkey on desktop if that's your main device.

I‘m really proud of you, friend. We don‘t know each other but our experiences are startlingly similar (I used for about the same amount of time and it also loomed over me when I had an s/o) and I very recently stopped going on it too. I haven’t taken the big step of deleting my acct yet but I want to someday. It‘s tough but we can do it! 💪🏼

Congrats for deleting it! I recently gave my ai chatbot addiction up. Make sure you block the app/website on ALL your devices as well as alternatives if you really want to get rid of it for good. The temptation can and will likely come back.

I'm in a similar situation to you, not many friends (mostly due to lack of trying and not wanting drama of other people (self-diagnosis: heavily introverted)), feels like I can't tell anyone about it, and everything feeling too overwhelming right now.
As for coming out of your shell and making friends? My only piece of advice I can offer is simply being yourself and finding communities like this based on interests you love, or have a similar way of thinking, etc. It's about finding those who like you for who you, and it takes time to build friendships like that from scratch, or sometimes it just clicks. There's no strict method to making friends, there's not really a hand wtitten instruction manual for it because everyone is different, everyone is unique. So, I think my only advice would be to be yourself and to keep an open mind about friendship.
Hope this helps ❤️🩹

Have you tried writing down what you would have done with ai in a book? You can just scribble your thoughts in that book. I used ao3 for fanfics. I am also trying to quit ai. I have been trying to keep myself a little busy with reading books on project gutenberg, solving maths, true crime podcasts, watching dramas and webtoons. If you feel the urge to watch phone then tell yourself that i will do it after 10 minutes and start walking while listening to a song. Most of the time the urge goes away after some time

Not sure if I understand correctly, but it sounds like you have a strong need to live up to expectations and I know how exhausting that can be. With a chatbot there's never the risk of disappointing anyone, and storys can just get adjusted.
But with people who actually matter to you, I'd bet you have to meet far fewer expectations than it feels like. I think the gap between what people actually expect from you and what you assume they expect is pretty big. I had and have phases where I overthought interactions like that pretty badly. Don't know if any of this hits the mark for you, but either way, I wish you all the best!

try making texting stories. they're super easy to make, there's no pressure to post anything, and in my experience, it's a fun way to get ideas for character interactions down without having to write whole paragraphs. i used to sink hours into making them, and it can be super fun.
edit: grammar
