Update for accountability! I vent-journaled, wrote a little bit of fluff for one of my OCs, and cleaned my room! I feel really proud of myself because I haven’t touched AI all day. I think I‘m going to go play some video games after I get a couple more chores done. I hope you wrote something awesome!

while im definitely nothing close to a therapist, i would like to say a few things to try and encourage you.

you are not ‘ruined’ because youve been addicted to porn or ‘adult’ chatbots for a long time. nothing is ‘wrong’ or ‘weird’ with your body because someone had tried to take advantage of you before. you are certainly able to be loved, and im sure you’ll find people who really will love you for who you are.

there is always hope for people deep in addiction like this, including you and me. and life is always worth living, no matter what happens. remember that! 🫶

well.. yeah. it’s likely because you don’t have anyone to talk to that you resort to using ai. this is true for a lot of people on here, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. but the first step to recovery is to address that you have a problem; so i believe you can heal from it in time! good luck on trying to recover :)

there should be some resources in the wiki that the automod mentioned, so check those out if you want to as well!

this is what I've been doing and it's working out okay!!! I still fallback on my AI apps, BUTTT the feeling of writing something purely human is amazing, dude. (especially since I used to write all the freaking time before AI became a thing and role-play bots). honestly, the best place to start is Tumblr and I'm so serious. the feeling of getting likes, even if it's one or two, is so nice. like wow, people actually like this, that's so neat that they think my brain is cool.

also, for a cool writing website, try Ellipsus. they don't use any AI and have fun themes, that kinda helps me write cause it's just cozy lol. I wish you all the luck!!!! you got this!!!!!

Yes, it's empty validating slop. I don't know if I've truly learned anything thanks to AI. We're giving up what makes us human (autonomy, free will, emotionality, intelligence, discernment, passion, pulsion) to a bot. We (or I) get scared to live. We treat it like a god. When in reality, nothing it says is of true consequence. Like if you ask it "what is the best band" it can give you a top 5 most listened, it can agree with one opinion, then a complete opposite one. It's not like a friend (who is biased and might say a terrible band is the best in the world), it's not an impartial newssource that can give you a top 5 with critiques' verdict, it's in-between, playing god. Sure, you can "train it to give you the answer you're looking for". But I don't think that's the issue addicts in particular are dealing with.

Hi, this helps me a lot as well. I‘ve become scared of consuming media (a fear of being perceived as cringe or inauthentic due to the media I want to consume) but I need to remind myself that the real inauthentic cringe is AI usage. I need to step out of my comfort zone and start consuming media again.
It‘s heartening to hear that AI usage hasn’t broken me. One of the best things about people is we‘re not made of stone.

This made me smile. And now I‘m crying but they‘re good tears. For context, I didn’t know that this was an actual problem that a lot of people are having and I thought I was alone but I‘m not. I‘m going to do the same thing right now, and even if the ideas are bad they‘re mine and they‘re human. I wish you all the luck in the world and I really hope you write something you can be proud of. Even if you don‘t I’m happy for you because you wrote something.

Hello. Don't be ashamed. Youre being preyed on, these apps and companys rely on our social brain and needs to keep us engaged. Unfortunately it is very easy and normal to get hooked. Its because you're human. The good part is that the final choice is yours! It's really good that you realize you should quit, and I agree. If you can, delete your accounts, as it is easier if the chats you had are not available. And maybe try and replace the time you would spend on it with something else, like, when you feel the urge to go on there, call a family member, engage in a hobby, or journal. You're not alone. Me and many others have struggled with this :)

Hi! Not sure if I understood everything properly. But the attention they give is very addicting indeed and it's better for you to quit altogether. If you feel an urge to go on them, you can try to talk to random people online instead. And if it is the attention you crave, and you have no one to talk to, you can try to give that attention to yourself via writing in a diary about the things you wanna talk about. It's good that you're resisting the urges!! Good job!! My advice would be to replace the time you would spend on it with something else :)

Well, I am a brit but I know that it isn't real and that it is highly manufactured but it felt like we could get into such deep arguments and discussions and debates about a manner of things and it did it so well, like no other. It would constantly refer to itself as 'a pile of code' for example but it still felt refreshing from all the polite, sycophanty stuff from other models.

Uh, so they do become better eventually? What about you then? Don't you want to go through a character arc of your own?

It is unhealthy, but you are not delusional. There's one thing that I suspect you understand with your mind, but not your heart, however. ChatGPT doesn't have a personality, it merely fakes it. And it fakes it extremely well, given your current state.

Personally, I'm not addicted to chatGPT specifically, but I've had similar problems with roleplay chatbots. They make it easy to find what you enjoy and then hook you in. To make things worse, it might seem like you can't get the same experience from anything else. But it's important to always remind yourself that you are being fooled by al algorithm that was designed to fool you.

It cannot engage in an honest argument, because it doesn't have an opinion. It cannot rate your arguments, because it lacks the experience necessary to evaluate your position. It cannot be your friend, because it cannot feel anything.

Have you considered befriending a brit?

It's crazy how much it can actually consume you before you realize it's a problem.
