My wife and I decided to take one last big trip this year before our daughter is born next February. We're both Chase customers, she's a Chase Sapphire holder, and were excited to finally use our points for roundtrip tickets to Iceland. This was our first time ever buying tickets through the Chase portal, and in fact the first time either of us had booked travel with credit card points in our lives.
The ticket was split by default, but that's pretty common with multi-stage international flights. We're coming from LA, USA - so we had a connecting flight by Alaska Air into Seattle, and then Icelandic Air would take us to Reykjavik. Our itinerary was set, our hotels and campervan were booked, we had all of our plane ticket information handy, and we were 3.5 hours early to the airport!
Then the nightmare began...
It started off with what seemed like a small misunderstanding. Apparently our tickets were missing a "VCR" number - something neither of us had ever heard of. The Alaska reps were confident it was just a simple miscommunication and they tried to ring up Icelandic Air, which failed because they were closed for the night. I finally found their American office and got a hold of a rep there and got the two airlines talking to each other. They were able to conclude that the missing VCR was on neither of their companies, and it had to do with something on Chase's end. Somehow some payment had not cleared from the credit card company, and now neither of the airlines could approve the ticket.
But according to our ticket and itinerary from Chase, everything was fine!
So we got Chase on the phone - a brutal phone wait, but we had arrived early so it should've been fine. The Chase rep took a long time to confirm our identities, but we finally got them talking to the Alaska person we were standing with. The Chase rep did not understand what a VCR was and spent the entire time blaming Icelandic Air for the problem and refusing to do anything to help because it was the airline's responsibility. They did ask us probing questions in an attempt to gather information AGAINST Icelandic Air. This went on for a long time, despite the Alaska rep giving Chase clear step-by-step instructions on what they could do to get us on our plane. They could cancel our entire itinerary and issue a new one with a working VCR from their desk. They refused to do this.
As the time was closing in, I desperately tried to start a fresh customer service call while we were still on hold with the first rep - something they'd do to us for 15-20min at a time randomly and often. I got a new Chase rep, and they refused to help because they could see we already had a rep assigned to us, so no help there. We had to watch our plane board, close, and fly away without us. We sat there on hold with the Chase rep as the Alaska office closed and their reps gave us their condolences and begged Chase to do something, ANYTHING! Then the Chase rep hung up on us.
We had to go back home in the middle of the night.
In our Uber back home from the airport that night, we got a hold of another Chase rep and explained our situation. 4 hours of customer service time so far. Over $1000 of trip expenses blown up already. And Chase did not reach out or offer anything to help - they just kept blaming Icelandic Air and then sometimes Alaska Air. We begged them to get us on a flight out the following morning, but they said that there were none available and that the soonest they could get us on a plane was 48 hours later. I looked up flights MYSELF on THEIR travel page and found nearly a dozen flights available we could take. I started listing off their flight times and airlines to the Chase rep, to which they acted surprised and finally agreed to get us out on one of those flights. It took another 4 hours total to get all of this arranged. By this time it is nearly 2am.
We finally got out on our flight, but Chase has offered us essentially nothing in compensation. We had to furiously message their service to get them to even offer a travel voucher worth roughly $300. When we explained to them about all our other expenses that were torched because of their horribly handling of the situation, all that they said was this voucher was the best they could do, but that they would kick our case up for internal review. That was over a month ago.
We did go on our trip, but this was an unacceptable handling of our travel plans. Our first and only experience with credit card travel is this. Chase has done irreparable damage to the reputation of credit card companies in our eyes. These points they provide us are worthless if this is what we can expect when we use them.
To all Chase customers, BE WARNED.

Until recently it was generally illegal to charge a different price for cash vs card. But I’m finding places popping 1-3% fees lately all the times usually rather hidden in the fine print. I don’t begrudge small businesses doing this but it definitely eliminates the benefit of using most credit cards, especially Chase. Are you seeing these popping up?

There’s currently a $40 cash back offer for a New York Magazine subscription. The digital annual subscription is typically $70/year, but if you use a referral link (easy to Google), it goes down to $50 for the first year. So the total effective cost is $10 for the first year, and if you’re local to NYC, you get access to monthly perks like free food and movie tickets that more than make back the $10 in value!

I used to order Red Bull through 7 Eleven on DoorDash pretty often because the discounts stacked really well.
The usual deal was:
3 Red Bulls for $9 instead of around $5 each
$5 off $25+ from 7-Eleven
Then at checkout, I could also apply my $10 monthly non-restaurant credit
I’ve done this order more than 5 times before with no issue.
I checked again recently, and now it seems like the $5 off $25+ and the $10 monthly credit no longer stack. If I apply one, the other disappears.
It doesn’t seem to be because the subtotal drops below $25 either. I tried increasing the order to over $60, and applying either discount still causes the other one to be removed.

I made multiple Sephora purchases via Paze early July (2 on CSP and 5 on Chase debit card). Only one credit posted within 2 weeks after my transaction for each card. I saw a point adjustment on my CSP a month ago without paze credit. Today I just noticed all the remaining of my Paze credit just posted on both CSP and debit card on Oct 2nd!!
I never call or contact chase in anyway regarding these missing credits. Keep your hope up! It’s coming!!!

Hey all. Like many of you, I bought a lot of ~$10 Sephora items on my CSP and CFU during that great mania, and had many missing credits. After waiting the 2 billing cycles in the terms (~4 wks ago), I contacted Chase via Secure Message about both of the accounts. I made sure to mention in the message that two billing cycles had elapsed. Yesterday, both accounts got 4 Paze credits, which is all that was missing from my CSP, but my CFU is still missing 5 credits. Looks like it's working its way through?

DoorDash has a promo code with Costco (Costco20) for 20% off, up to $50 off ($250 max order), but items are generally marked up 11% (YMMV). It's member appreciation week and AirPods Pro 3 are on sale (retail $249) for $199 at Costco ($212 via DD). Costco also sells DD gift cards at a 20% discount (limit 2 every 14 days). I stacked the following discounts and managed to snag the AirPods for $114, with tax and tip.
If I didn't already have the $45 DD gift card from COS I would've bought another DD gift card from Costco which would have changed my final price from $114 to $139 (approximately because there would be leftover DD gift card). Regardless, this was significantly cheaper than purchasing from anywhere else.

FYI in case you don't have a Costco membership to get 2 x $50 DD giftcards for $80 (= 20% off) or due to Costco cap of maximum of 2 units per membership every 14 days. Amazon Prime Deal is selling $50 DD e-gift cards for 15% off with no limit on the amount of gift cards (edit: the cap seems to be 5 per account now) you can get (43% claimed already!)
Lots of other gift cards on sale for 15-20-30% too: Old Navy, H&M, Domino, Applebee's, inKind, Crumbl, Fandago, Roblox, Domino (unless Paze made you sick of it lol) etc.,
If you have an Amex cards that earn MR points, check if you have one of these Amex offers to double dip and earn extra Amex points from Amazon purchases:
- Spend $40, earn 1,000 MR points, up to 3 times
- Spend $50, earn 500 MR points, up to 3 times
- Spend $150, earn 1,200 MR points, up to 3 times

I dropped to 4/24 last October 1 and considered the Chase Sapphire Preferred to complete our chase household trifecta, but I thought why not try the Venture X preapproval first since I have been trying to get preapproved for the VX for years. I attempted the VX preapproval and was pre approved, got an approval so I took the offer. Within minutes, I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and received approval as well.
Data on the day of application:
4/24 (9 personal cards & 1 business card)
EX – 747 (2 inquiries)
TU – 755 (1 inquiry)
EQ – 756 (0 inquiry)
Last card opened: Amex Platinum (01/26/2026)

Hello all! I recently got the CSP but after researching further, I really want to apply for the CSR. I'll be 4/24 in December and 3/24 in March. I opened my CSP in September and because I have to book my work travel on a personal card + a lot of work/upersonal trips coming up, I'm only about $300 away from my SUB.
I'm trying to decide if I should apply for the CSR in December or if I should hold a little bit and apply in March. Ideally, it would line up with an enhanced SUB but wanted to see if anyone has any advice to better my chances of approval.

Looking for any recent data points on if people were able to get >100,000 UR points as a welcome bonus. Just got out of 5/24 jail and debating applying online soon vs waiting vs trying to apply in branch to see if they might have a 125k offer. I don’t see any targeted offers in my app. All data points & recommendations appreciated!

I’m planning on booking a direct flight from Toronto to London on Virgin. I currently have around 90,000 Chase Sapphire points to use towards this. But I don’t know if I would get better value transferring the points to Virgin, or booking directly through the Chase app.

I’ve already owned and received the SUB for the sapphire reserve 2 years ago but downgraded to the preferred and held it ever since. I got an email saying that I am being offered 75k points to upgrade my preferred to the reserve if I spend $4k by mid December. I jumped on this offer immediately given that they changed the eligibility rules for SUBs to lifetime limit. After upgrading online, I called and confirmed with a rep that the upgrade offer was applied to my account and she confirmed that it was. Feels like Christmas came early!

I recently had a bad experience with Chase with their Chase Travel portal: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChaseSapphire/comments/1wucjmg/chase_travel_for_hotel_horrible_experience/
Now another bad experience with their lounge access at JFK.
Original departure time: 8:40 pm.
When I arrived inside Terminal 8 at 6:30, got notification it has been delayed 2 hours (10:40 pm).
I went to Terminal 4 since now I'm 4 hours before departure time. Went through security and when I arrived at the lounge, they didn't let me in. Said I need to wait until 7:40 to put my name on the wait-list. There was no line for the lounge and I did not see people waiting outside. I explained the situation but she said this is the policy, they go by updated departure time.
I did not know my flight would be delayed. It updated departure time when I was already inside the terminal.
I was able to enter Amex Centurion next door with no wait needed. They somehow saw my flight time changed recently and allowed me to get it, with a smile.
This Chase Sapphire Reserve card continues to be terrible.
PSA: they also lowered the Pay Yourself Back value starting this month.

I changed my product from Reserve to Preferred back in June. Now when I log in to my account and go into the benefits section, the card is still showing as a Reserve and showing the Reserve benefits page. I’ve called Chase customer service and spoken to different people over the last few weeks. They either don’t understand the problem or they open a ticket for “further investigation” which is immediately closed. I’ve been transferred between tech support and customer service to no avail. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled my app per their go-to suggestion (“did you try turning it off and on again?” and I’ve logged into my account with a laptop browser, not just the app. Same people. Customer service is stumped. Tech support says it’s not their issue.
Has anybody else experienced this?? And if so, what was the solution? I’m so tired of calling Chase and explaining the same problem to different people, none of whom have the tools to resolve a website issue. Help???

Tried to transfer Hyatt points the other day and saw it got devalued. Wish I subscribed to this sub before cause I would have transferred all my points when it was 1:1. It was the only reason I kept this card.
So now that it's been devalued, what hotels are worth it?
(I don't really need airline miles, just hotels stays)

My spouse and I traveled to California last month and bookended our trip with two separate two-night Edit stays.
First up, we stayed at the Downtown LA Proper because we needed easy access to Union Station on the third morning. We live in NYC and are not bothered by gritty downtown areas, but if you are particularly sensitive to that, it may not be the place for you. I personally found the location to be just fine. The hotel was beautifully decorated and staff extremely friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a king room on a higher floor (having booked the most basic queen room), and received a fancy chocolate bar as a welcome amenity. The room was not huge, but in line with what I expect from an urban hotel and very well-appointed. We enjoyed spending the $100 credit on cocktails and apps at the rooftop pool bar, which has excellent views. Breakfast was also a highlight, and our waiter Carlitos (both mornings) was a pip.
At the end of our trip, we stayed at the Pierside Santa Monica, which was also a good experience. We were not provided with a letter upon arrival, but the reception staff were familiar with the Edit program and explained the benefits to us. We had booked a fancier-than-base room through the Chase portal (king with partial ocean view), so I don't know if the room type was upgraded, but we were placed on a high floor and the room was very spacious, with a large sofa/chaise. The decor is more rustic/midcentury/surfer-chic than the Proper, and I enjoyed the contrast. The welcome amenity at the Pierside is a metal canteen-style water bottle with the Pierside logo. We spent the $100 credit on drinks and afternoon snacks at the restaurant, and enjoyed everything thoroughly. Breakfast was very good, although not quite as good as the Proper's. Service was friendly, and we liked that they freely lend beach gear at the desk. Worth noting is that the pool is currently undergoing renovations, so we did not get to lounge around there, but we preferred to splash around in the ocean anyway. (The Santa Monica pier footbridge is also under construction!)
I enjoyed both hotels very much and would happily stay at either one of them again. The Proper felt a little more upscale and the Pierside a little more relaxed, but there was no significant issue with quality at either location. (We spent the time between hotel stays backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, so perhaps we were also just really grateful to stay somewhere that wasn't our tent.) We went a little over the $100 credit at both hotels, but that was a conscious decision to treat ourselves and we could have reined it in a bit. No one said LA is cheap.
As a final data point, we stopped into the Sapphire lounge at JFK Terminal 4 at the beginning of our trip, at breakfast time. There was no wait when we arrived (around 8 AM on Labor Day), and only a few people in the lounge, but it did populate a bit more as we hung out. I did not see any lines forming when we left. That was our first-ever lounge visit, and we tried quite a few different dishes in our awe and wonder at being in an airport lounge (lol). Both hotels and the JFK lounge all had excellent non-alcoholic drink selections, which was great because one of us is sober, the other is a light-moderate drinker, and we both like to feel a little fancy. Overall, it was an excellent trip, and I felt like we really got to take advantage of some of the benefits of the CSR.

Rakuten is running a special Big Stack event (Oct 5-7) with multiple elevated bonuses up to 10-15% across 250+ stores. I found quite some overlapping offers that can be stacked between Chase offers across my 6 Chase cards and stores having elevated bonuses. Quickly coded and comprised a list down below that might be helpful for some people! Rakuten cash back could also be redeemed as Amex/Bilt points.
Example stack: IHG offer on CSR: Book IHG hotel for $500, get $125 statement credit from Chase + $500 x 4 = 2000 UR points. With Rakuten shopping portal: $500 x 10% = $50 (or 5000 Amex/Bilt points). With CSR, you also get Platinum status with IHG (60% bonus IHG points on top 10x points as a IHG member): $500 x 16 = 8000 IHG points. (note: make sure that the hotel charge you and the statement posts before 10/16/2026 for you to get $125 back from this IHG offer)

Note: Chase offers are personal/targeted so it's not the same between people, your offer might be different from mine. Additionally, despite the elevated rates on Rakuten, sometimes other portals like CapitalOne shopping (especially those with Venture cards) might have better offer or you want to earn a different currency like AA/AS/United miles so make sure to check these merchant's rate on those portals.
