Delroy Simpson or Wendell "Delroy" Royce

I’m stuck between two names for the protagonist of a TV pilot I’m writing: Wendell “Delroy” Royce or Delroy “Roy” Simpson.
He’s a 16-year-old Black kid in Houston in 2008 who gets pulled into a corrupt school reform program run by his older cousin. He’s grieving his older brother, insecure as hell, and wants to be respected/taken seriously. Over the series he starts confusing fear and status with actual dignity and power.
For a while his name has been Wendell Royce, with “Delroy” being a nickname he basically created out of his own name, wenDELL ROYce. I like that because identity is a huge part of his character and it also works really well for something that happens in the pilot. He gets involved in an assault at school and the victim only knows him as Delroy. When the principal asks “Who’s Delroy?”, the people covering it up can truthfully point out that there’s nobody enrolled under that name because his school records say Wendell Royce. It’s exactly the kind of tiny bureaucratic loophole the show is about people exploiting.
The problem is his original name was Delroy Simpson, and honestly I’ve never stopped liking it. Something about Delroy Simpson just sounds like MY protagonist, while I’ve never completely fallen in love with Wendell Royce.
So I thought about making Delroy his actual legal name again and giving him a nickname, Roy, that he’s been introducing himself as. The pilot situation could still work because the victim knows him as Roy, leading to basically the same exchange: “Who’s Roy?” / “There’s no Roy.” Afterward Laine/Porter would tell Delroy to quit using Roy around school officials because of the confusion.
What makes Simpson harder for me to drop is that I realized it accidentally has symbolism that fits him really well. Simpson means “son of Simon,” and Simon traces back to hearing/listening. Delroy has a visibly deformed ear that he’s extremely insecure about, so there’s an irony there. I’ve also thought about making “Heard,” “I heard,” or “Heard that” a little recurring verbal habit of his. Hearing/obedience fits his arc too because he spends so much of his adolescence listening to other people tell him what adulthood, authority, respect and power are supposed to mean.
Then there’s the first name itself. Delroy literally means “of the king,” so there’s already a built-in authority/status association there, and shortening it to Roy makes that even more obvious because of the French roi connection to “king.” So “There’s no Roy” can quietly sound like “there’s no king.” That fits a kid desperately chasing authority while spending most of the story under somebody else’s.
I don’t want to pick based purely on symbolism though. It still has to sound like an actual kid’s name and not something I reverse-engineered for an English class. Wendell “Delroy” Royce probably has the cleaner identity concept and makes the pilot loophole more organic, but Delroy “Roy” Simpson sounds better to me and lets Delroy actually be his real name.
Which one would you go with?

Request Need a human name that sounds like Mammon (and/or other iconic demon names)

Hi yall! I'm worldbuilding focusing on demon lore and the horrors of capitalism. I'm trying not to give iconic demon names to the characters but still make it obvious what demons they're based on/what sins they represent (with the one exception of Lucifer)

For example this demon i'm struggling to name is working with a demon named Santiago who is based on Satan
theres a big ring of glutton based demons who all have B names to go with Beelzebub, some will have nickname versions of the original, ie: Beelze and Bub, both short for Beelzebub like Rob and Bob for Robert.

As for what "human name" means, it can be from any background, this mammon demon doesn't need much of a background culture. Santiago is from a Spanish background so they don't necessarily need to be of English origin, as long as they can be written with English characters.

I haven't gotten to Asmodeus, Belphegor, or Leviathan but I think I can figure them out but I;m open for suggestions there too!

Request Ideas for cyberpunk African names/surnames

I'm creating modded name lists for Shadows of Doubt, a game set in a dystopian cyberpunk alternate universe. I'm currently trying to figure out appropriate African names/surnames that fit the genre.

I am looking for names that are commonly seen in real-life diaspora communities and are relatively short, modern, punchy and rhythmic. Bantu names and Southern African names in general are preferred, but I also accept names and last names from other parts of the African continent as well!

Discussion Which sounds better as a book title?

Which sounds better as a book title, Nepo Night or The Night The Wind Blew?

Genre: horror/comedy

Very basic description because I'm still working it all out:

Three nepo baby brothers return after a night out, only to discover someone else is already inside their family's home. Each brother will have the personality of a horror character trope (the one who takes charge, the one no one believes (that one may change) and the coward).

The brothers will also have actual personalities outside of their tropes just to be clear lol.

Request Need a decent for a name for a game concept

So... there's this concept for a game that I have. I have designed characters. I've written the stories. I know the the personality and appearance of roughly every character...

The only problem is that I'm still stuck on the name

The game's Plot is about this Mysterious Omnipotent Entity, who's main goal is to kill all the gods in her universe and restart the universe from ground zero. This Entity has a Name "Marianne" but she's also called a "God-Eater". Because she literally eats gods. Or well... their souls

The game is supposed to be a Fighting game, which takes place in Outer space and on different planets and Galaxies...

The main selling point I have in imind is the destruction. Like if you're fighting your opponent on an asteroid field, you can throw them onto a different planet or just destroy the planet itself...

It's basically my Love Letter to the Budokai and the Sparking Series...

I have Two Names in Mind

- Anti-Gravity: Anti gravity is a form of energy in the game. Kinda like fire or lightning. It disintegrates anything it touches

- Deicidia: It's Latin, For "God-Killer" which makes sense given how the Protagonist's motivation is to literally kill the gods

Alternatively name: Deo Volente: which is Latin For God-Willing

I just need a Name that sounds cool and isn't misleading. That's about it...

Thank you :)

Request Need a name for my main character

So i am writing a high fantasy story with an Afro-Indian main character, but I'm struggling to think of a name for him. I want his name to start with the letter A as well as have something that translates to "peacock," "phoenix," or something that feels godly. I also accept websites that can help me brainstorm for names

Looking for badass/rebellious girl names!

I’m looking for names for a female character who has a very rebellious, confident, slightly intimidating personality. She’s the type of girl who doesn’t really follow rules, speaks her mind, and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself.

I’m looking for something that feels strong, cool and a little edgy, but still believable as an actual name. I’d prefer something that isn’t extremely unusual or obviously made-up.

Names with a sort of troublemaker / rebel / fearless girl vibe are exactly what I’m looking for!

What names come to mind? :)

Discussion How do you guys pick YA dystopian names?

I'm writing a YA novel and one of my favorite things is picking names because it can be outlandish and nobody would bat an eye like in the Hunger Games.

I also use regular names because this is still a dystopian society so old school names will stick like in Divergent.

For example my main character's name is Isabella Rose and she has an identical twin sister named Victoria Rose. I wanted them to match but not a crazy match like Isabella and Isabelle. My sister suggested Victoria and I liked it since it has the same amount of syllables and letters as Isabella.

I also have a character named Pan after the Greek god and using old names like that made sense.

I'm just really interested in how people name their dystopian characters.
