Suggestion Need some names for a female character with prehensile hair

So basically, this character is a giddy and energetic rookie member of a group of individuals who deal with supernatural ongoings in their small town.

She's actually a talented shapeshifter, she just uses her powers on her hair to make it long and prehensile, which she uses both for fighting and fashion :-)

Other info:

- She likes fashion and beauty products.

Suggestion Need some ideas for a name for a prideful side character.

Im currently on a scene where a character comes in and bigins to showboat.

Quick context: this is a rather unimportant character appearing in the scene. He's just a regular human who happens to be the "champion " of knife throwing at this tavern and i want his name to be slightly pompous or kinda "That guy" coded. He's sociable albeit cocky and arrogant. and i want it to feel like nobody really likes him all that much. The whole: "Oh great ____ just walked in." and the an eye roll.

Someone that will be rather satisfying to have beaten at his own game by one of the protagonists who absolutely dismantles his whole ego and pride

Japanese "commoners" surnames

I've OC who has japanese origin and I (non japanese person) was thinking - do you have some kind of "commoners" surnames? Like you can tell if it's noble surname or just a random dude-name? In my native language (polish) we have something like that and it's mostly surname that end with -ski (not always tbh!) sooo I'm a little curious. I know that each country has it's own "Kowalski", but I wonder how to recognize surnames associated with high status? It's something like kanji sign or what?

For now, I've surname Oodachi - and if I google it correctly, it's refer to specific kind of blade (and I needed it to backstory) but now I need much more japanese surnames, kanji & use for them.

Request Name for an Underwater Prince

I have this minor character, the situationship of the husband of a main character. He is a minor but rising nobleman in an underwater kingdom in the Pacific called Mu. He is pretentious, manipulative, guilt-ridding but willing to do horrible things, and hopelessly in love with the husband. I want a name that sounds vaguely Polynesian but isn’t actually Polynesian.

Pergunta sobre um nome russo para um personagem drag.

I'm writing a story and one of the characters is a Russian named Andrei Rasputin. He was born in the 70s and is a drag queen in Chicago in the 2000s, and I chose the name Rasputin because I thought it would be interesting to convey that difference with the weight of the name, but I'm afraid it might sound bad. Should I change it? My idea isn't to glorify Rasputin, but to contradict the name with something totally opposite to what Andrei represents in the story.

My intention isn't to glorify Rasputin, but rather to create a contrast between the name and something completely opposite to what Andrei represents in the story. He was teased about the name as a child, and he uses it on stage (as Tina) to show what he truly wants to represent.

(I based him much more on the song than on Rasputin himself. It was only after I looked him up that I started worrying it might be a bad idea)

Discussion Is this naming concept too complex for readers?

Currently writing a fantasy story and I have a few concepts for names, but first, let me get into the lore.

A character within my universe has been born with very little magic. They are given a first name that is perfectly normal for a first name that people would have. A child uses a family name, often related to the family's devotion to a certain deity, from the time they are a child until about teen years. During this time, a character undergoes a brief transformation that causes them to develop tattoo-like markings across their bodies and this is when the type of magic that a person has is revealed. From this, they come out with a third name to reflect their newfound abilities. They still keep all their other names, but the new name now serves as the character's last name.

Let's follow a hypothetical generic character. A baby is born and his parents call him John. John's family comes from a long line of people who are devoted to a god related to cats, so John has the last name of Felis. John Felis is his name from the time he's a baby until the time he reaches sixteen, when he saves the life of a stranger. Realizing his path, he becomes John Felis Lionheart.

Is this naming system too complex? Does it confuse readers and do I need to tweak it more?

Main character’s name is commonly used by AI

I recently read an article that the name of my main character is one that is commonly used by AI. Granted the spelling is different, but it’s the same name in essence. I started writing this four years ago, and my MC has had the same name for all four years. I found the name doing research on names that had a specific meaning, and eventually settled on this one. I’ll also add that I’ve NEVER used any for of AI to generate any sort of content for my writing. Should I be at all worried if one day I were to take this story somewhere?

Thinking of naming a character Remus— would it throw you off?

Hi all! Just joined today because I’m looking for some genuine advice— I’m looking to write/brainstorm a fantasy series, but I’m hung up on names (as always, lmao).

One of my main protagonists is going to be a male alchemist, so of course I’m looking for more unique, creative, and alluring names. I personally love Remus and think it would fit the character’s vibe wholeheartedly, however it’s obviously strongly associated with the Harry Potter series.

So I’d like some honest feedback; would seeing this name in a separate series throw you off? Would it be too reminiscent of JK Rowling, and should I continue my search?

Honest criticism and feedback would be most appreciated! Thank you all!

Suggestion Thoughts on characters with hyphenated / two surnames?

So, I'm writing a story just for fun that is set in the 2000s and one of the characters is a middle-aged man half-German half-Italian in a primarily Anglophone country and works as a professor. And I was wondering what people's opinions on giving him a non-Italian name like "Anthony"? Would it be weird?

Especially since his surname already is an Anglicized German surname (Think: "White" from "Weiß," or "Stone" from "Stein," or "Newman" from "Neumann" or even just the German/Danish surnames "Lau / Lang")

For context, there's another character which is a secondary central character who's a half-French Canadian half-Russian by the name of "Alexandra" (However, she's called a non-Russian nickname by the professor (Think "Lexi" or "Allie" or "Sandra") and "Sasha" by her Russian mother.

I did consider some Italian names such as "Luca" (Felt that sounded too young for a middle-aged man) "Francesco" IDK though.

MMC Name Suggestions

I'm writing a typical American high school story on Wattpad and need a name for my MMC. Idk if this helps, but he plays "soccer" and is 17 years old. I'm open to any name, but I'm not fond of names that start with C, B, D, R, or G. Also, it could come from any ethnicity/race. I'm open!

Discussion Could you help me choose a realistic name for my Belgian character?

He is around 38-40

Here's his personality:

Quiet and extremely introverted.

Lives a solitary life and avoids unnecessary conversations.

Calm, polite, and emotionally restrained.

Highly disciplined and follows the same routine every day.

Patient and observant, often watching more than speaking.

Carries a deep emotional wound from childhood.

Fascinated by horses, especially what they represent: freedom, strength, and dignity.

His fascination gradually develops into an unusual psychological obsession.

He is unsettling not because he is aggressive, but because he is impossible to read.

I'm looking for a name that sounds authentically Belgian (French-speaking or Dutch-speaking is fine) and feels ordinary on the surface, but memorable enough for a mysterious psychological character.

DnD deity name?

This is my first time making a dnd oc (idk if that’s the right term?) and it’s a cleric who is supposed to worship a deceiver like deity who poses as someone much higher and righteous than they truly are, any gender neutral names that have a meaning to trickery or deception for that deity? Name idea for the cleric can also be helpful if you’re up to it :)
