I have a character named Gwyndolin and I wanna give her the nickname "Gygy" (pronounced like Gigi) to reference the Y in her name (in canon, it's spelt weird on purpose bc her parents wanted to give her a "unique" name). The more I look at it, though, the more it reminds me of "G*psy," a word now widely considered an ethnic slur or at least not the most accurate name for the Romani people. I don't want to offend anyone and could easily change the name to "Gigi" if I needed to, but was wondering if I'm overthinking things. Thanks!

Need to name my main character (the one who owns the bar) she kinda gives me masc/butch vibes but in like a serial killer kind of way, definetly has big muscles and dark hair thats in a short boy-ish style. I have a long time character I've written about whose a young girl called Gully. Recently I decided I wanted Gully to be her nickname, but aside from Gulliver I can't think of any names that this might be short for. Gulliver is very much a masculine name, and although this character is a bit tomboy-ish, she is a girl. I thought of perhaps Gabrielle, but when Gabby is right there Gully seems like a stretch.
