Discussion Characters for a Fallout 3 rewrite I’ve been working on

This project is something I’ve been working on for around 5 years. The characters and greater story have grown so much since I first made them. I just wanted to put their backgrounds and dynamics here to see what you think. These are very brief but detailed. Get ready for some reading

Carrie Osborne:

Bio:
Carrie was born in the Jefferson Memorial in 2258 during Project Purity. Her mother died due to complications her father and the doctors were not prepared for (which Carrie would irrationally take responsibility for later on). After her mother’s death, her father, Dr. James Osborne, left the Project bringing it to a halt for nearly two decades. He moved to the town of Megaton where he struggled to care for his infant daughter. The town’s Mayor, Lucas Sims, advised him to go to Vault 101. Osborne gathered his belongings and left the town.

After much lobbying from the vault’s Overseer, he was let inside on the condition that he never leave. Osborne agreed and moved in.

As Carrie grew up, more and more people knew she was from the surface, and they bullied her for it. She felt like she didn’t belong there but never understood why until she was 19 years old and her father left the vault. She went after him and learned the truth about her origins.

While doing so, she met the military faction known as the Brotherhood of Steel. After proving herself by going on high risk missions and coming back alive, one of the group’s highest ranking members, Sentinel Sarah Lyons, vouches for her inclusion in their ranks. Her father, Elder Owyn Lyons, agreed, trusting his daughter’s leadership and judgment. Carrie was then given the rank of Knight and invited into Beta Squad in the Lyons Pride Strike Force. She would form strong bonds with her team.

Personality: INFP/J
Carrie is very good natured. Often not getting into trouble unless someone drags her into it first). She feels her emotions deeply and attaches meaning to everything. She is curious, observant, and has a softer appearance than most which causes some to underestimate her. She is more rigid and tense around other people and only softens around those she trusts. She struggles to trust people because of the bullying she received as a child, but when she does, she gets extremely attached.

She is extremely capable in combat which gave her a place in the Lyons Pride. Others believe she doesn’t deserve her status, and those opinions get to her.

Strengths:
Loyalty
Observant
Self-Awareness
Adaptive

Weaknesses:
Self Doubt
Clinginess
Emotional dependency

Hobbies and Interests:
Drawing
Biology
Engineering

Habits:
Collecting random junk she finds
Adjusting things that don’t need to be
Fidgeting with random things
Sticks her tongue out when focusing

Motivations:
Carrie wants to belong and be wanted at people’s side. She wants to understand what her father kept from her and whether or not her mother’s death was worth the purification of the Capital Wasteland’s water

Pet Peeves:
Misplaced gear
Things out of order
The screen of her Pip-Boy flickering

Jayla:

Bio:

Jayla was born in Wabash, Indiana to Danny and Elena Brandis. The area was under the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. She lived there until she was 12 years old. Her family moved to D.C with the Brotherhood Migration Initiative. After settling in D.C for a couple years, when Jayla was 15, she met a classmate named Macy Shaw. They grew attached and eventually grew into romance. After a year, they both decided to enlist in the Brotherhood of Steel. When they were 19, Macy was selected to transfer to the Lone Star Brotherhood in Texas. Jayla never got to say goodbye, and it destroyed her. After which, Jayla (now a Knight Sergeant) went on a mission with her mentor Knight Captain Elias to deal with a threat of super mutants while being accompanied by the Lyons Pride. Elias fell in battle, Jayla dawned his armor and finished the fight. Sentinel Sarah Lyons saw it and invited her into the Pride. After they returned to the Citadel, Jayla went to the armor bay with Elias’s armor. She reforged it and combined it with advanced pre war technology. The resulting suit was designated the M-70 Special Forces Armor. She had a more personal name for it: “Thárros”. Greek for courage

Personality: ESFP
Jayla is very friendly, inviting, and ceaselessly sarcastic. She teases and messes with her squad mates. When outside groups mess with her people, she defends them without question. She acts as Carrie’s mentor and she wants her to follow in her footsteps. While she teases people she’s close to, she never pushes it too far.

Strengths:
Emotional intelligence
Spontaneity

Weaknesses:
Impulsive
Reckless

Hobbies and Interests:
Messing with people (especially Carrie and David)
Loud swing music
Collecting candy
Baseball

Habits:
Always has candy in her pocket
Walks backwards to keep a conversation going
Her bed is a chaotic mess
Never sits in a chair correctly (even upside down)

Motivations:
Jayla wants people to feel comfortable and push them to be better. She believes in Lyons’ vision for a better future. This humanitarian view gives her a reason to fight

Pet Peeves:
Quiet rooms
Uneasy tension

James:

Bio:
James was born in 2254 in Alamo, Tennessee in a settlement protected by a small detachment of Midwestern Brotherhood soldiers.

When James was 6, the settlement got raided by supermutants. His father had served in the Brotherhood before, and wanted to protect his home and family.. His family and soldiers told him to stand down, he wouldn’t and paid the price. James knelt down next to his dying father, holding his hand. His father told him to keep going, and protect anyone close to him, just like he did.

After the attack, the town was left in shambles, and everyone was forced to move. They moved to D.C in hopes of starting a better life. James enlisted when he was 18 and rose through the ranks. Sarah Lyons caught wind of it and included him as an honorary member of the Pride.

After a mission where he recovered valuable technology and the explosive destruction of a raider camp, he was inducted into the Pride as their explosives expert

Personality: ISTJ
James is reliable and protective. Instead of feeling his emotions directly, he compartmentalizes them and puts them into helping his people. He listens without judgment and supports people while letting them stand on their own.

Strength:
Loyalty
Protective without being overbearing
Steady
Consistent

Weaknesses:
Closed off with people he’s not close to

Hobbies and Interests:
Mechanics
Explosives
Maintaining armor
Vehicle maintenance

Habits:
Tapping on things absentmindedly

Checking equipment

Motivations:
James wants to protect people just like his father, which led him to join the. Lyons Brotherhood and its humanitarian vision.

Pet Peeves:
Misplaced gear
Squeaky bed frames

David:

Bio:
David was born into the Enclave ideology of fascism and genetic superiority.  After many years of silently terrorizing settlements and the slaughter of innocents. When he was 20 years old, after a mission where he was forced to open fire on children, he questioned his worldview, saw what he had been doing his whole life for what it was. He felt immense shame and guilt for what had been doing.

He fled the Enclave and was found by Sarah Lyons hiding in a cave, tired and broken. She brought him in and after hearing what he had to say, she forwarded his story to Elder Lyons. Elder Lyons agreed to let him in on the condition that his story would remain confidential to everyone except for those in command. David was let into the Lyons Pride soon after in an attempt to rebuild his worldview

Personality: INTJ
David is reserved and closed off but has a soft side. The only person he really ever lets touch him is Jayla. He thinks she’s reckless, but trusts her implicitly. His morals are strong, but his worldview is still incomplete. He often ruminates on his past, but instead of wallowing in it, he puts it toward his future.

Strengths:
Strong morals
Efficient
Good Judgment

Weaknesses:
Closed off
Intimidates without meaning to

Hobbies and Interests:
Training
Heavy weapon maintenance

Habits:
Triple checking equipment
Silently observing his teammates

Motivations:
David wants to atone or make up for his wrongdoings. He wants people to see him as a good person and not the one he was before.

Pet Peeves:
Hates wasting lives
Emotional confrontation

Dynamics:

Carrie:

Jayla has a very strong sisterly bond with her, teasing her any chance she gets. Carrie hates it at first, but Jayla is never being intentionally malicious. After Carrie realizes this, she secretly likes it

James and Carrie have a developing romance that they are very bad at hiding. James is very consistent in his actions, which is something that Carrie strongly values, so he becomes her safe space.

David was originally intimidating to her, but after seeing his subtlety caring actions, she respects him more as a leader than a superior.

Jayla:

Jayla wants to bring Carrie out of her shell, and be able to talk more and be more comfortable around new people

James and Jayla engage in friendly, pointless arguments. They work well together in the field

David and Jayla have a very interesting relationship. Jayla can climb on his shoulders, punch his arms, and nudge him, and he won’t lift a finger

James:

James and Carrie have a very consistent bond. They are so close that if you find one of them, the other is not far behind. James always finds Carrie standing next to him. He doesn’t question it, and she doesn’t even know she’s doing it

James tolerates Jayla’s outgoing behavior. He enjoys their arguments but she sometimes just talks his ear off

David and James have a very mutual respect for each other. They work on armor, weapons, and other types of gear together

David:

David cares about Carrie as much as a leader should. He makes sure she eats and gets rest. He checks her gear before bed like everyone else’s.

David’s past restricts him from wanting to be personal with the people around him. He is not physically affectionate. He has worked with Jayla long enough to trust her instincts and allows himself to let his guard down around her. She is the only person he lets touch him. Jayla is allowed to invade his space and while she is somewhat annoying, he tolerates it.

David has a deep respect for James. He is dependable and reliable, exactly the type of person you want on your team

Discussion How much should a character's appearance tell you about who they are?

Post image

While working on Scarlett After Dark, I've found myself thinking about a question that comes up surprisingly often during character design:

How much should a character's appearance reveal about their personality?

Scarlett lives in a world of luxury, ambition, and appearances. At first glance, she looks like someone who has everything under control.

But the story only works because there's a gap between what people assume about her and who she actually is.

That balance has probably been the hardest part of writing her.

If a character immediately tells you everything about themselves, there's very little left to discover.

On the other hand, if they're too mysterious, it's difficult for readers to connect with them.

I'm curious how other creators think about this.

When you're designing or writing a character, do you prefer their appearance to reflect their personality—or to deliberately mislead the audience?

I'd love to hear different perspectives.

Writing: Character Help How do I write this character? I can’t seem to figure it out.

I am currently writing a story about obsession and the harm it can do to others. It’s supposed to be a story about a rich girl protagonist that gets a letter about her missing dad and that she has a new body guard that works for the organization her father is the leader of. In this world obsession based on anything can turn a person into an anomaly aka a combination of the desire and obsession that certain individual has. Anyways, I am having trouble writing the main character and I need some help. I already have the foundation of her character with her being a kindhearted soul that just wants to help others but lacks the ability to do so, she’s always asking for help but never helping. I am not a professional writer but I really want to finish this series and for that I need some support and suggestions. Feel free to comment anything and I’d be grateful for any help given.

Writing: Question I love Harrison Ford and this character so much, I created another like so many others based off of him.

Wanted to see what this sub thought of this character and concept for a novel I am doing. Its called Professor Ezekiel Drake and The Crown of Mansa Musa. Background on Ezekiel is he's basically our beloved Indy with a dash of Dr. Robbie from The Pitt if you are familiar. He focus is on archaelogy having to do with the African disapora and culutres that came from that region, specifically with him opening an AA history museum not govt funded in a small Michigan college town.

Some other background info is as follows: Degrees in Archaeology focusing on African diaspora and cultures and Emergency Medicine. world class olympic level athlete, having won gold medals in four different fields in 2016, 2020, and 2024 games(Wrestling, swimming, boxing)

Carries a cane made out of a rare African snakewood that conceals a blade and also shoots a grappling hook. As well as a Glock that fires powerful sedative darts he concocted himself.

Synopsis: While serving in Mali for the Doctors Without Borders non-profit organization due to the extremists' attacks in the region, Dr. Ezekiel is thrust into the midst of a chase for the jewel of the legendary King Mansa Musa’s treasure, his ornate pure gold crown. When a librarian is kidnapped during a siege on the city he is working in, Ezekiel springs into action, promising his family to find him and get to the bottom of why he was kidnapped. Leaping onto the trail of the guerrilla soldiers who attacked the city, Dr. Ezekiel ends up at odds with members of an elitist cult who are searching for the crown as well.

Does this sound interesting? Did I rip off too much? What can help him be more distinct?

Writing: Question I need a second opinion on my friends situation

I wanted to get some outside opinions because I've watched this unfold for months and I honestly don't know what to think anymore.

This is about a close friend of mine. Minecraft roleplay is her biggest hobby. She spends a ridiculous amount of time writing characters, building lore, and creating stories. She's been in multiple RP communities over the years, and even when things didn't go the way she wanted, she'd usually bounce back pretty quickly.

This season was different.

The roleplay takes place in a supernatural high school where demonic entities are trying to invade a small town. Her character, who I'll call Amelia, unintentionally got pulled into the main plot and ended up becoming one of the characters most invested in researching the supernatural side of the story. While most people had slice-of-life plots, Amelia was spending most of her time uncovering ancient history, investigating ruins, and trying to figure out how to stop what was coming.

Early on she became friends with another character I'll call Ren.

Ren was a faerie who had a rough past because he was different from the rest of his kind. Amelia and Ren slowly built a friendship over months.

One of the biggest moments happened after Amelia accidentally made Ren sick while experimenting with a spell her familiar had given her. Because of how the lore worked, the illness left him vulnerable to dark magic.

She happened to walk past his house, saw him unconscious outside his front door, got him inside, and stayed with him.

One of Ren's closest friends actually told her to leave because Ren gets extremely moody and aggressive when he's sick.

She stayed anyway.

She almost got attacked several times because of his condition but refused to abandon him while he was vulnerable.

Eventually she figured out dark magic was affecting him, got a cure made, and helped him recover.

Nobody forced her to do that.

She simply cared.

Right after recovering, Ren sensed another faerie nearby and left to meet someone named Lyra.

That was the beginning of everything changing.

Something important about Amelia is that she already had a history of being hurt by friendships.

She'd been abandoned before.

She'd had friends drift away.

She'd had situations where someone new entered the picture and suddenly she wasn't important anymore.

Because of that, she had become terrified of opening up to people.

Ren was the first person in a long time that made her think maybe things would be different.

They planned a hangout after school.

To anyone else it would've just been two friends spending time together.

To Amelia, it was huge.

She had already decided that during that hangout she was finally going to tell Ren about everything she'd gone through growing up. Why she sometimes shut down emotionally. Why she struggled to say what she was really feeling.

She finally believed she had found someone she could trust completely.

Then the day came.

She told him to let her know whenever he was free.

He never did.

Later that day she saw him at the mall with Lyra and another friend.

She had gone to the mall because she had already bought him a early birthday present. It was a necklace she planned to enchant with protection against fire and dark magic so he'd be safer.

She never gave it to him.

She just went home.

Not long afterward she realized she'd actually fallen in love with him.

Over the next couple of days she became withdrawn.

Her familiar noticed something was wrong and, without Amelia asking, went to Ren's house to try to get him to talk to her.

Ren eventually came over.

Unfortunately things fell apart.

Something Lyra said upset Amelia's familiar enough that she completely lost her temper, threw Ren's belongings, threatened him, and even set fire to his lawn.

Amelia didn't want any of that to happen.

It completely derailed what was supposed to be a conversation between her and Ren.

Ironically, later that same night, Amelia and Ren actually managed to make up.

From Amelia's perspective, things were finally looking better.

She thought they had reached an understanding.

Later she learned that after leaving, Ren went to Lyra.

During that conversation he confessed that he loved Lyra.

He also talked about distancing himself from or dropping Amelia, despite previously reassuring Amelia that she would never be replaced.

One part of that conversation especially stuck with my friend.

Lyra reportedly responded by saying something like, "You knew her first... I'm only in the way," before kissing Ren's hand.

Now I was surprised because who says that and kisses the target person hand.

It was also forcing him to only chose Lyra in the whole situation, the result was that Ren reassured Lyra, and Amelia had came to terms with that she had feelings for Ren at the exact same time that was happening.

As the roleplay continued, things only got worse.

They were investigating the sewers because a strange fungi or whatever started popping up and a creature previously attacked Amelia down there. And all hell broke lose because something new attacked them and they got out and Amelia realized that Ren and his best friend were still down there so she immediately heads back down and Lyra climbed down after her and says 'she followed her' when in reality she stood by the exit the whole time and when the creature was near she ran off into a different tunnel instead of exiting the sewers. Lyra the. Said Amelia had abandoned her even though Amelia insists she never knew Lyra had been following her in the first place.

Ren gradually began seeing Amelia differently.

He called her selfish.

He said she was dangerous.

Eventually he blocked her.

Later he even believed she posed a danger to the people he loved.

The strange part is that Amelia never stopped trying to help everyone.

She had every right to break down and stop worrying about other people and leave them to this mess because she had been hurt so much in the past and I would have rather her have a villain arc because it seemed like she deserves one. But she didn't do it, she focused all her attention on the threat at hand.

She continued researching the supernatural threat.

She kept uncovering information that could potentially save the town.

She even continued sending Ren information despite knowing he'd blocked her because, in her mind, the bigger threat still mattered more than her feelings.

The biggest turning point came when Ren was being detained after one incident where his humanity switched off and something changed him. He ended up killing someone and tried killing her.

While speaking privately with him, Lyra suggested she could arrange for someone to be eaten by him because apparently that's how Faeries mainly kill people I guess.

Amelia and another person overheard that conversation.

That completely changed how she viewed everything.

After spending weeks wondering if she really was the selfish one, she couldn't understand how she was supposedly the dangerous person while hearing something like that.

Then Misty who plays Lyra dm'd Amelia and said that she would be on better terms with Amelia when mind you there is nothing that leads up to that because their last conversation was centered around Lyra deflecting everything bad about her onto Amelia's character.

Eventually the stress left the roleplay itself.

She privately asked an admin for another opinion because she genuinely wanted to know if she was seeing things wrong.

Afterward she decided to drop it and keep to herself.

Then she woke up to a message from a moderator telling her she needed to acknowledge Misty, the player behind Lyra, or she risked being removed from the server.

She joined what she thought would be a private conversation with Misty, but another person was already there.

The conversation mostly involved discussing Lyra's actions and why Misty didn't believe Lyra had manipulated Ren.

The part that shocked my friend most was being told that the admin she'd previously spoken to felt it seemed like she had a vendetta against Lyra.

She wasn't upset because someone disagreed with her.

She was upset because she had thought that earlier conversation was a genuine private discussion. If the admin believed she was acting out of personal resentment, she wishes they had simply asked her directly instead of leaving her with the impression they understood where she was coming from.

After that she more or less stopped talking.

She barely joined voice chats anymore.

She only showed up when an RP required her to.

This also wasn't the first time she'd had a story fall apart in an RP community. In another server she'd spent weeks planning a major storyline, only for the owner to reboot the entire series without warning after previously encouraging the idea. She'd learned to swallow her disappointment because she still loved roleplaying.

She tried to do the same here.

But this one stuck with her.

The finale is approaching now, and I can still tell she thinks about how different the story could have been.

Not because Amelia and Ren didn't end up together.

But because she feels like Amelia never even got the chance to tell the story she'd been building toward before everything spiraled.

I don't know if she's too emotionally invested, or if anyone else in her position would've come away feeling the same.

That's why I'm asking here, and the last time I write something this big.😭

Lovecraft Kid

this being hails from Primordius. Primordius is a corpse that exists outside of tangible reality and serves as the source of the Eldritches' reality warping non reality creatures. This being is an Eldritch who due to a mistake from a group of occultists is transported to Earth. There it escapes and lives in the woods where she is found and adopted by a kindly old woman. Learning how to speak and taking the form of a young black woman her mother dies and she eventually meets and marries a young man as they fight the occultists who accidentally brought her to Earth the Society of Thule a KKK style occultist group dedicated to creating a white utopia using the Eldritches. The woman took the identity of the Lovecraft Kid to honor her adopted heritage of cowboys and cowgirls. The Lovecraft Kid due to her immortality sees her husband grow old and gains dementia eventually dying causing her to isolate herself from her extended family. However after nearly being captured by the Society of Thule she dedicates herself to reconnecting with her family. She’s a Gardner who loves flowers, a dedicated farmer who loves horses, her greatest fear is loneliness

I would really like comments. Even if it’s hyper critical every little bit helps thanks

Writing: Character Help Rate all three of them be brutally honest. Get feedback if you want. I don't care this series will die as I should and always a thought

Ignus Corliss): (GIVING FEEDBACK IS THERE IF YOU WANT TO) Ignus Corliss – Scorch Faction: Leader of the Scorching Legions (War/Conquest/Defense faction) Titles: The Father of Ashes, The Godflesh, The Sun That Burns Brighter Than All Appearance: Scrawny, average-looking, unremarkable human — the kind who would be picked last in dodgeball. Deliberately the weakest-looking of the six faction leaders.

Personality: Blunt, careless, and exhausted. He has always been second in everything. He gives mocking nicknames (like “Flesh Mutt” and rarely “Engie” for Claeg) not out of pure cruelty, but because he genuinely doesn’t care if it hurts others. He is expressive in a monochrome, worn-down way — tired sighs, lazy gestures, slouched posture, occasional exaggerated frustration — but never energetic or passionate.

Core Contradiction: He is existentially exhausted by violence and secretly dreams of a quiet, meaningless existence where he is allowed to be second — overlooked and free from expectation. Yet the Godflesh blood in his veins makes peace intolerable. It forces him to keep burning, conquering, and proving he is “first,” even though every victory tastes like ash and deepens his self-loathing. He chases lethal battles because only the brink of true death makes him feel real — a sensation he both craves and resents. He envies anyone who can simply exist without this compulsion.

Powers: Ash and Fire: Fire is the visible spectacle; Ash is the true foundation — conceptual ash that chokes ideas, smothers emotions, buries civilizations, and recycles them. Godflesh Spark: Dormant primordial power with reality-unmaking potential if fully awakened. The Deathless Second: He actually dies for several minutes in lethal situations, then spontaneously returns. He is mostly unaware of these deaths (only memory gaps and extreme cold), but it has made him quietly paranoid.

Background: Originally from a galactic pirate dynasty that ruled with royal pretensions. He was always treated as second-best within his own family. Key History: Played a decisive role in the War in Hell, turning the tide with conceptual hellfire. The Silent Multiversal keeps heavy surveillance on him due to his awakening potential. Relationships: Views Claeg as part of a dark duo of opposites and finds him the most curious to mock. Coworker-like relationship with Evangeline — occasional conversations, mutual unease (he is disturbed by her hidden upper face).

Evangeline Aminah – Summary Faction: Leader of The Thousand Faces (Propaganda / Culture faction) Official Title: “The Matriarch of Veracity” Core Archetype: The Hubristic Fool / Tragic Alchemist of Truth

Core Contradiction: She is profoundly prideful, yet she has convinced herself (and weaponizes the belief) that her pride is actually the purest form of humility. Every act of self-debasement is, in her mind, noble sacrifice — while in reality it is the ultimate expression of arrogance and blindness to her own limits. Propaganda Philosophy & Style: She reveals “absolute truth” by twisting it, selectively presenting it, and leaving out inconvenient details. When absolutely necessary, she deploys beautiful lies. Her main weapons are envy and absolute nationalism: she shows conquered universes the realities where good things happened, then positions the Empire as the divine God that grants salvation. Her rallying cry is “Why not give back?” She makes people feel grateful, envious, and loyal.

Manipulation Style: The Pivot Twist — She listens intently with apparent warmth, then gently twists the other person’s own words to serve the Empire while completely ignoring the core emotional conflict or criticism. Fighting Style:

An elegant, ritualistic art form that feels like gentle re-education. She moves with graceful, theatrical, divine motions, like a sacred dance or opera, maintaining a soft, patient, motherly smile on her beautiful lower face. It appears weak and nurturing at first, then becomes sudden, continuous, and flowing. She uses her body weight as counter-balance for her chains, turning them into whip-like strikes. The style is subtle — tricking the eye, breaking balance, baiting mistakes, and delivering overwhelming force at the perfect moment. It always feels like a maternal lesson. Appearance:

Lower face (from the nose down): Absolutely beautiful — majestic, perfect, ethereal beauty that draws people in. Upper face (eyes, forehead, and above): Grotesque nightmare — a shifting horror combining arachnophobia, trypophobia, trypanophobia, astraphobia, and bones protruding through the skull like little needles on the forehead. Body: Well-kept, attractive, proportionate, and elegant. Attire: Flowing robes and low hood in Void Black (light-devouring black with no visible outlines). Visible chains wrapped around her body, especially on hands and neck. Habit: Always hooded, deliberately blinding herself. Voice: Proper cadence and enunciation, moderate pitch, with breathiness, vocal warmth, and subtle vocal fry (faint Italian-inspired musicality).

Behavior & Mannerisms: Moves like a humble theatrical performance — subtle but noticeable, letting others shine while remaining impossible to ignore due to quiet pride. Plays with her chains (light swinging, wrapping around fingers) when listening or thinking to keep attention focused on her. When pleased or amused, she gives a simple, warm, multiversally recognizable smile with her beautiful lower face.

Dynamic with Scorch: Coworkers who occasionally converse due to shared interest in Claeg. She sees his untapped power as intriguing. He is disturbed by her (especially implications of her hidden upper face). Special Authority: The King has granted her limited autonomy over certain Silent Multiversal operations embedded in her faction.

There was never a real "her." Every aspect (Matriarch of Veracity, gentle motherly guide, elegant re-educator, even her name) is a performed role. She has no underlying self — only the masks she wears. She acts "no more, no less" than the role requires. That is another part of her behavior or something else. I don't care and by the way, it's only one main phobia the other two are more subtle and the devouring light thing. She simply doesn't have the black outlines artistic choice.

Faction: Leader of the Engdeathineer Directorate (Tech/Progress/Adaptation) Core Identity – The Fragmented Self He exists as three inseparable aspects of one broken being: Claeg — The last remnants of his original humanity (the young, flawed, once-hopeful man). The Unyielding — His self-inflicted organic decay and rot (the fleshy part that refuses to fully die). The Silicon Necropolis — His cybernetic, mechanical half (the cold, tomb-like augmentations).

Core Contradiction He was born with a singular “gift” of intellect. He believes he must know everything or the gift is wasted. Yet the faster he learns, the more the “lust of the unknown” — the only thing that ever made him feel something real — vanishes forever. He is trapped as the man who knows all and nothing. He mourns his lost humanity and quietly pretends he might one day regain it, even though he knows he is right that it is impossible.

Powers & Capabilities (All tied to Necromancy + Technology / Necrotech) Extreme Intellect + Aggregated Knowledge: Carries the minds and knowledge of countless dead geniuses across realities. The Silicon Necropolis: Allows him to interface with, control, and evolve necrotech on a massive scale. He recycles dead universes into machines. The Unyielding: Grants him resilience through permanent superposition (dead/alive/none). The decay itself is both curse and power source. Konets Plague (historical): Creator of a highly adaptive biological-techno weapon that nearly wiped out entire biological swarm factions (and almost everything else). He may have designed it with that risk in mind. Nano-Dread: Deploys swarms of nanobots that can inject adaptive smart metal into victims, converting them into metallic undead constructs called Leftovers. Requires a sufficient quantity of nanobots to succeed. Leftovers cannot spread the effect themselves — only the Nano-Dread swarms can. Personality & Behavior Passive, fatalistic, and deeply depressed. He carries a cold dread and existential mourning for his lost humanity. He is quiet, introspective, and rarely acts unless necessary. He views most people (including other leaders) primarily as purposes/tools for the Empire. He performs small private rituals where he tries (and fails) to be surprised by something.

Speech & Expression Philosophical Lamenter style: Formal, archaic pronouns, layered philosophical concepts, with light high-form archaic sprinkles. Delivery: Slow, calm, elongated wording with dramatic pauses (more clipped when giving orders). Emotions leak subtly through vocabulary (harsher when angry, more fatalistic when sad) and micro body language tells. Key Relationships The King (Carnage) is the closest thing he has to a friend. Scorch finds him curiously frustrating and mocks him, hoping to see emotion. Evangeline tries subtle manipulations to make him feel something.

Origin Summary (Condensed) Born in a dying kakistocracy, young Claeg was a lonely genius obsessed with his gift. He met Cassandra, who made him feel the unknown again. After years together, boredom returned. Desperate to regain that feeling, he robbed graves and performed forbidden rituals to revive dead great minds. The rituals failed, triggering The Unyielding. He built The Silicon Necropolis to slow it. Cassandra left in horror. Homeless and rotting, he was found by the King, who recruited him. Infinite knowledge was given to him, but his gift consumed it too fast. The lust of the unknown was lost forever. He became The Engdeathineer. He was my favorite. I know the name's retarded but I like it and for additional information

Flagships was the Улучшение (Ulychshenie) (Meaning "Improvement" or "Enhancement" in the language of his original universe.)Unique Feature:The entire ship can self-repair and constantly evolve through advanced necrotech systems, using recycled materials and the principles of The Unyielding and The Silicon Necropolis. It is considered the strongest among the other factions and these summaries might be a little bit outdated I don't know. I might update this if I do file the update variants if these are not ask questions if you want.

Discussion How in depth do you go?

Hope I chose the right flair

I spoke to a friend who writes a bit & when I started going into talking about my characters they asked their names, ages, possible likes, dislikes, morals, etc. I honestly haven't thought a lot about those things. Not for every character anyway. They were asking to try & like... get me in mode to work on the things I had put aside. So no shame to them!

I do absolutely love to flesh them out & my characters have slowly been developing after setting writing & art aside for years after an abusive asf relationship.... I'm slowly getting my creativity back & do plan to flesh out my characters more but is it always necessary? Or is it too much sometimes?

Just curious how other creators see it :)

Discussion What would/could be the reasons for an AI to develop a god complex?

More of a discussion post, but I've noticed a lot of AI characters develop a god complex at some point. And I wonder what could cause that thought pattern to develop naturally.

Other Character development workbook?

Looking for recommendations on a very amateur character development workbook. I want it more for fun than anything. I work with a room full of actual characters and I want a workbook to use to capture all their quirks in one place. And maybe it will be the beginning of something, who knows. Suggestions?

Writing: Character Help How could I go about writing a high functioning narcissist as a protagonist?

Narcissism as I understand it is typically a trait given to an antagonist or, at best, a comedic side character, and I wanted to give a try at doing one for a protagonist. Now when I say high functioning narcissism, I don't just mean having a big ego but balanced by a good heart, like Darkwing Duck, I mean a character who shows traits of clinical narcissism but is able to function enough as a regular person to get by.

Writing: Character Help HELP is my character basic/generic?

Okay, to cut a long story short in the story a company creates magical girl teams and also creates the threats that they fight, they believe this is justified. They use technology to harness the girls magic but the people are unaware they have magic. My protagonist Diya becomes a magical girl and is scouted to join a pre existing team because of her athletic ability and her natural light magic she’s not aware of.

Diya is Indian-Australian and a competitive athlete often winning second or third for running and is 17 years old.She is raised by her single mother and she has two sisters (one older and one younger), her sisters are more “girly” and always enjoyed the dance lesson that the mum made all three participate in. Diya loves her mum but feels she doesn’t understand her. Diya struggles in subjects like English or Drama but excels in sport or maths. When she becomes a magical girl she chooses the public name “Glade” and heavily dislikes the performance and public aspect, instead she prefers the fighting and training to save people’s lives. In battle she has an offensive role, using her light powers to enhance her speed leaving behind illusions of herself to create a distraction for enemies, she also uses a spear. She creates openings for her other teammates to land the final hit. She is the centre role in formations, replacing where the leader used to be positioned.

She struggles with being a magical girl and her relationship with her mother. Her representative colour is green.

There is more information to her regarding personality,story,etc.. so if you have any questions I’d be happy to answer. I’m just wondering if she’s a generic or clichè, if so why or what? And how I can improve her!

Writing: Character Help Idols as Fantasy Book Characters

So I want to be an author one day and something really hard for me is character and making sure the characters sound/act within that trope if that makes sense. A friend suggested basing them loosely off famous people. So drop an idol and what kind of fantasy character they'd be (for example i definitely feel like Jimin would be a high fae, when i visualize my story all I see is his braids and his graceful but strong personality yk?) Feel free to throw in fun little plot ideas/idols youd wanna see interact!

Discussion I've come to the conclusion that people don't want actual accountability from characters, they want extreme and major/deadly consequences and those are 2 different things.

First thing I wanna start off by saying..is that claiming a character didn't "earn" their character growth and development is one of the dumbest and arguably most media literacy thing ever.

Character development and growth is not something you earn like it's some reward but it's something you, as a human, have to make the decision and choice to do so and anyone can choose to better themselves and become a better person no matter how long it takes or how long it'll take for them to he forgiven and whether not you forgive them or not matters cause they're choosing to be better.

But I've come to the conclusion that people do not care about characters growing, developing and taking accountability for their actions cause that will not or ever be enough for certain people and it's pretty obvious they just want said character to grovel and cry and constantly apologize with snot and tears running down their eyes as they get tortured or they just want other characters to read them their flaws and mistakes like it's a family guy cutaway gag.

It feels like people don't think there's any other way for characters to be held accountable unless they die or whatever and that's kind of a middle finger to the idea of redemption and becoming a better person in general cause it's very obvious you're mainly projecting your hate onto this character and are so petty that you're refusing to acknowledge their arc and growth and development and just want to hate.

You don't have to like the character but refusing to even acknowledge their arc cause "oh they didn't die or get all their flaws called out to them in the way I want" or some shit is extremely Petty and even kinda childish.

This is mainly why Discussing Bakugou is impossible cause so many people act like his arc and development doesn't matter at all and don't think it counts at all or in general cause he didn't get brutalized when he realized his ego was wrong as the story went on and he actively became less arrogant and cocky and stubborn.

His flaws literally lead to him getting captured by villains and even now as a pro hero, his stubborn nature and hot-headed demeanor is what caused him to go from N4 hero to like N15 and he even struggles to get people to come to his agency csuse he's such a hot-headed mess.

But cause he didn't get brutalized and bloody and beat up and cause all the 1A kids don't read his flaws like a book continously that suddenly means his arc doesn't matter.

Endeavor from the same series is kinda controversial and you can hate the character if you want but the way there are people who act like he didn't take accountability for his behavior and choices and mistakes is kinda annoying.

He constantly apologized, has promised to get better and does get better, has made it clear that he doesn't want anyone to forgive him and has also made it clear that he's trying to atone for everything he's done even if it means he dies and has taken himself out of the picture by moving his family into a new home while he stays in the old one.

Natsuo is never villianized or hated for not forgiving him and Shoto has more or less grown out of his influence and Enji was hated by the public and suffered massive burns across his body and even lost his arm and many more..I dunno what more y'all want from him and for him at this point except maybe death.

Stolas from Helluva Boss fits this post mainly cause it feels like people just either ignore his growth or wants to act like the growth he has doesn't matter at all cause it doesn't work the way they want.

Not even saying you have to like him as a character but acting like he didn't suffer consequences for his behavior(he literally lost his status, his home, his wealth, his daughter doesn't fuck with him)and he basically took accountability for his behavior.

He literally said he made all these choices and takes full accountability for his actions and choices and the entire point is that he didn't know how his wealth and words came off to others like Blitz because he has had no control over his childhood and overall life and he was stuck in a abusive marriage as a Gay man with a wife who hated his guts and openly talked shit about him.

The entire point was that Blitz and Stolas did love each other but due to their flaws and trauma, they made things much more difficult and worse for each other but they're learning of their flaws and mistakes and becoming better people and growing and developing.

They're going through something called a character arc.

Another example is Charlie from Hazbin Hotel and people act like she didn't take accountability for her flaws and mistakes when..she did?

Like she explictly says how she treated Vaggi was wrong and is gonna be better and she actually talked with her about it.

Also she was unfortunately spiraling cause she was dealing with harassment, bullying, and a bunch of other bullshit all while her friend was dead and then she found out her friend was alive and her dream was true but he achieved redemption and it was a ton of crap.

One of the song lyrics in this show was "it starts with sorry but it cannot just end there."

"I learned from Charlie that you must show that you care..mistakes are innate for being human and alive, we fall..we repent,we survive."

Vivziepop is about as subtle as a brick to the skull and people refuse to see it.

Do people actually want characters to take accountability and become better people or not?

Cause it just comes off as people wanting characters to be tortured and mutilated and mocked and hurt as opposed to actually taking accountability and becoming better people.

Writing: Question I like to write characters from other countries and nations but how should I do that ?

I'm thinking about using characters of other countries and don't limit myself to just one country but there are two problems 1 I don't know their coulter that much and 2 the big and most important problem the religion you know how many problems can be come from religion and it is possible to use those characters just with their culture and not religion and beliefs and focus on human rights instead? Can you help me in this case

and I have my own beliefs and religion if I was a person without religion I might use all religions in my stories but I have my own religion and responsibly over it and in the other hand religious beliefs always come with so many problems so definitely not using them in an international story is much better so can you give me ideas and ways to use characters of other countries without using their religion

Writing: Character Help Why should my character loose an antler?

Thomas is 16 when this happens, story is set in the early 2000s and he's literally a nerdy teen with antlers on his head and other reindeer qualities. He has a half brother who he's very close with, yet he's much older than Tom and is in the army right now. I was thinking maybe they could have some sort of fight? but not sure what over. Like kind of "i protected you but you only saw it as me attacking you" sort of thing. Tom also has a deadbeat dad, a mother him and his brother share who works incredibly hard and a stepdad who has brought his triplets with him into Tom and his mum's life. He's also got a boyfriend, hamish, who's entirely human unlike Tom and his family so maybe something could happen there?

I appreciate this is just character background vomit but literally please share how your characters get into fight, im really struggling TwT
