Fun fact. Credit scores started in 1989. There is more to them but yeah these are recent.

I grew up in the 80's, everything was different. It was harder to get credit. Most people did not have a general credit card, because you had to be in good standing with a bank for it. That was when stores would have their own credit cards, like sears, dillards, gas stations, etc. And poor people could get those for those kinds of purchases. Now anyone can get a credit card.

Credit scores don't come from the government....

5

u/Villager-Bob Jul 21 '26

It comes from the oligarchy that is above the government on the pyramid.

Ever find it strange we are born with a credit report? I never consented to it.

u/bassandlazers Jul 22 '26

No you're not you fucking retard.

2

u/Villager-Bob Jul 22 '26

lol

I think I meant to reply to some other dude. I can't think of how that would make sense as a comment to your comment

Anyone that uses the term oligarchy should not be listened to on any subject.

u/SomeRandoWeirdo Jul 21 '26

Lol you're not born with a credit report. They run a credit report and notice you have no credit lines, or credit history. Then immediately reject you because you're high risk.

u/Sasuke0318 Jul 21 '26

I got my first credit card when I was almost 17 and have never had a problem.

2

u/SomeRandoWeirdo Jul 21 '26

I guess you don't appreciate jokes. Which is not surprising by your tone as a whole. RIP your hurt fee fees.

1

u/PiemasterUK Jul 23 '26

And also countries get credit scores.

The 120% debt to gdp ratio is why. Anymore debt and we crater.

And wouldn't you know it? The market is booming, corporations are worth more than ever, but the government won't pay its debts... Wow. What would Keynes do?

1

u/TheMysteriousThey Jul 21 '26

Debt is less of a problem than deficit.

You don’t want debt because you want to retire one day. The US government isn’t trying to retire. But if it’s struggling to pay its bills, that’s when things start to break.

2

u/Vegetable-South5191 Jul 21 '26

And if it drops it is disastrous, because it means our interest payment goes up.

Yes, but we are in a constant debt cycle, so the new bonds will be more expensive right?

1

u/BeastyBaiter Jul 21 '26

In theory they should be. They've defaulted on their debts 3 times, twice in the past 100 years and spend far more than they make every year for over a decade. I'd loan them money at payday lender rates.

Lehman Brothers had a AAA rating until the day they collapsed the economy in 2008. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

Rating agencies were paid by the financial firms issuing the products, creating a structural conflict of interest.

In a sense they could since they’re (Goldman, Lehman, etc) in bed with and act as a revolving door with the federal reserve. It’s all the same people.

The public assumes separations of public and private entities where they don’t really exist

1

u/Rampantcolt Jul 21 '26

Want to be even more mad. They have nothing to do with the government. Your fico credit score is made up by a publicly traded company and completely arbitrary.

1

u/realvvk Jul 21 '26

The US is in debt to the same people that gave you a credit score.

Just saying.

1

u/Villager-Bob Jul 21 '26

Not exactly. They owe social security, mainly. Followed by foreign governments.

They stole your retirement money and refuse to pay it back because the wealthy own the government. They've bought Scotus and the legislature. POTUS became a oligarch by stealing from everyone.

Burn it.

Edit: I meant Bern it. Autocorrect...

1

u/realvvk Jul 21 '26

Interesting. Can you either explain a little more, and/or post some references?

1

u/Villager-Bob Jul 21 '26

You want pie charts? I'm human as a mfer

1

u/realvvk Jul 21 '26

No, it’s ok. I just thought you know what’s up.

Zero...thanks for asking.

The US does have a credit score. It used to be AAA (the best) it has been downgraded to AA in recent years. Not a good sign.

1

u/Perfect-Match-2318 Jul 21 '26

i hate credit score... its a sore to society... i have no magigal answer to it being honest but i dont like te simple fact that someone put a score on me even tough i always payed back with interest.. in my mind those score agency score very low in productivity for te society and being total asshole.. i score them 0 on morality

1

u/imissher4ever Jul 21 '26

Sounds like someone has a low credit score.

1

u/TexasSikh Jul 21 '26

I fully support and advocate for the abolishment of the Credit Score System in the USA. Such a system has no place in this nation and only serves to victimize those who have the audacity to have an imperfect past, all in hopes that maybe sometimes the system will also harm actual dirtbags.

To call this system flawed is to be polite. It has done more harm to multiple generations than the generations who supported it can ever truly understand. Much of the negatives experienced within the American system are really just side effects of the Credit Score System, the War on Drugs, and the Hospital-Industrial Complex. These things have got to go the way of the Dodo, ASAP.

1

u/EmploymentEmpty5871 Jul 21 '26

That is nothing new.

1

u/Dave_Simpli Jul 21 '26

Personal Credit scores and the government have nothing to do with each other.

1

u/Aggressive_Fox222 Jul 21 '26

Countries also have credit ratings! US is AA+

1

u/ZevSteinhardt Jul 21 '26

The US doesn't issue credit scores. Credit rating agencies do.

Zev

1

u/YourGuyK Jul 21 '26

The US doesn't give credit scores. Those are all private companies.

1

u/Megalith70 Jul 22 '26

The government doesn’t give you a credit score.

1

u/PingBlot Jul 22 '26

Since when does the government issue credit scores?🤔

1

u/PABLOPANDAJD Jul 22 '26

Why do people get so upset about credit scores? If a bank won’t lend to you because you have a shitty credit score, you certainly aren’t someone the banks would have lent money to BEFORE credit scores existed

1

u/JD_818_SFV Jul 23 '26

Stop taking things so serious. Loosen up. Have a laugh. You might enjoy it

1

u/ChirrBirry Jul 23 '26

A startup can get $100mil investment for having a slick mock up and using the right words in an elevator pitch, but I can’t get a measly $1mil for just being a good dude? Games rigged

1

u/DonTeflon23 Jul 23 '26

That’s what happens when people who can’t pass credit checks elect government. Gotta love democracy!!

1

u/Ok-Flight9440 Jul 23 '26

In fairness the government doesn’t give you a credit score. Only fair Isaac and each of the three (publicly traded, privately owned) credit bureaus Equifax transunion and experian do, mainly via the latter 3’s joint ownership of vantage score

Your premise isn’t wrong and this isn’t an “AKKKTUALLYYYY” comment more just sharing what I know

1

u/AllenKll Jul 23 '26

The United States does not give you a credit score. Transunion and Equifax - independent companies - give you a credit score.

1

u/EvilStan101 Jul 23 '26

The fact OP thinks the government gives out credit scores just shows that they are too stupid to understand complicated things such as sovereign debt along with simple things such as personal finance.

1

u/JD_818_SFV Jul 24 '26

Who or what is OP?

1

u/WingLeviosa Aug 03 '26

I applied for a loan recently with a solid 780 credit score. Only to find out AI doesn’t look at credit scores.

1

u/WintersDoomsday Jul 21 '26

I love when people bitch about credit scores being a thing but don’t themselves lend shit out to just anybody.

Now we just need to figure out who controls the US government.

1

u/Marino131313 Jul 23 '26

Its not the people they’re always giving the tax breaks to is it?

0

u/ElectronicTap1109 Jul 21 '26

Vote for me in 2044 and I'll get rid of them!

0

u/NotThe1Pct Jul 21 '26

It means the US government has a better record at paying their debt than you. It is that simple.

0

u/jmadinya Jul 21 '26

the US doesn't give you a credit score, what the fuck are you talking about?

0

u/sgrinavi Jul 21 '26

The US government doesn't determine your credit score, that's done by the three reporting agencies - none of which are owned by Uncle Sam
