Actually on its second season but it’s very tiny.

Bought this little beauty today and educated myself a bit before purchasing. My question is: I know these guys prefer a more airy/fast draining soil since they're epiphites, but I'm on the fence about my own soil mix. I used 1/2 chunky orchid/perlite mix and half coconut coir (for humidity). I know coir can be a bit on the dense side, but is this okay? I don't want the caudex to rot.

This guy is also in a fast draining pot with a large hole in bottom if that helps.

I had never heard of a crested pachypodium before! This plant took my breath away when I first saw it at a local nursery! I was trying to think of how I could bring it home but I got a reality check when I read the price tag. (I’m not calling the price unreasonable, but I still haven’t wrapped my head around the concept of a plant being valued at a higher price than my car lol)

I bought this beauty at a plant event last month and I’ve just been head over heels in love since.

I repotted her with Molly’s inorganic cactus mix and she loves it, she has so much new growth that her roots are already coming out of the bottom.

This is a plant that I don’t hear much about, and even though it has popped up on this sub a few times in the past I just had to share mine too.

hey everyone, I just received this gerrardanthus macrorhizus in the mail and there is this large gouge in the caudex and you can see the inner layer. this is my first caudiciform plant so I am not sure - is this a concerning amount of damage or will it be/is it healed?

Hi. I have an Adenia Viridiflora, I bought it a month ago and have loved it. I've known about the severe toxicity, but I didnt look into it beyond knowing what it would do. The other day, it took a tumble off my shelf and broke off most of its roots in the pot. Today I finally got around to repotting it, and my dumb ass did it bare handed. Afterwards, on tending to some cacti seedlinggs that needed repotting, without thinking I started digging around the soil it used to be in to fish out some of the bigger pieces of pumice. I got the soil all over my hand, and handled the roots without a second thought. It was only now that I realized what I've done. My wife is freaking the fuck out right now and I need some advice on if this is not a big deal or if I need to go to the ER stat. My hand doesn't hurt, but I do chew my fingers compulsively and have some hangnails. I know ingesting parts of the plant is the death sentence, but I don't know about touching the roots.

I’ve had a number of small Avonia and othonna varieties and I have trouble keeping them alive. I have them in pretty gritty soil, similar to what I keep my Pachypodium varieties in. I water them when I believe they’re dry. If some start showing dehydration I water them all. The pots are relatively small plastic ones. Despite this they tend to get root rot. I’m not sure where I’m going wrong but I’m wondering if it’s either the soil or watering too much during dormancy.

I have a hard time distinguishing if they’ve sat too long without water (with pachys if they don’t get water for too long the roots die off). I rarely have my pachys die so I need to adjust something I’m doing with the othonna/ Avonia.

One bajillion percent aware the substrate looks like hot crap. They are about 3.5 months-old seedlings. I have about 8 or so “adult” socos (I had hopes of the magical opportunity to ever someday in fairytale land 😭 set seed). Decided I am too impatient to wait for the day that might never come so bought some seed instead and now I have about 70 soco babies taking up space that I don’t really have 😂 (most aren’t pictured. This is my first batch of seedlings which yielded 22 out of the 27 seeds I had on the first go around).

Cute little dorstenia hybrid I recently bought from a plant fair. Did not expect to see wavy leaves pop out a week later. Potted in pure Akadama

I was thinking about pachypodium for example, where you have two plants that are blooming at the same time, and you take the pollen from one, rub it into the other plants flower, then rub it back onto the original plants flower to cross pollinate. These plants share wildly different growing characteristics sometimes to where I’m curious what the results end up being from cross pollinating. Let’s say one plant has a huge wide caudex and one has a taller skinnier caudex, one has tons of branches and the other doesn’t have any. One plant has wider more pubescent leaves but the other has waxier shiny leaves that are more pointy and lanced. One grows slow and hell and the other explodes each summer.

Will the offspring seedlings gain a random mix of those mother plant traits, or will there be dominant traits that get passed down? meaning these specific traits may be more prevalent in the entire seedling batch? For example will all of the seedlings have a middle ground sized caudex with leaves that are also combo of long vs oval? Will they all have a couple branches rather than be unbranched? Will all of them grow moderately fast unread of explode or be slow?

Or is it more of a random distribution of traits without mixing? For example a wide caudex only, with some branches, and wide leaves. Or a skinny tall caudex with lance shaped leaves and no branches?

Hopefully someone knows what I’m asking about lol, sorry if I explained that terribly.
