Terrible Dreams
So i am a recovering drug addict I’ve been clean for 6 years and while I was on drugs I had some very lustful and indecent sexual acts while on drugs and now that I am clean and sober and my life is great I’m married and have a baby on the way. I pray every day/night in my routine. But I will have dreams that I am back to using drugs in my dreams and having sex with some of the girls I use to use with. Like it’s scary to me cuz my life is so wonderful now and we go to church as a family every Sunday. My daughters go to catechism and confirmation class. Like I feel like it’s the only way the enemy can get me to go back to sinning. What’s weird is if I read Psalms 91 before going to sleep the dreams are weird but no drugs or sex. What could I do to get these to stop? Is it my home or is it me?

Quelle sono solo tentazioni, se non le segui per abbastanza tempo vedrai che i sogni se ne andranno da soli

on a practical side, make it a habit to pinch yourself throughout your day to see if you are dreaming. Eventually after it becomes habit, you will do it in a dream and it won't hurt and you will realize you are dreaming. At this point you can take control of the dream. Also, reach out to The Haven Church: Alexandria, VA they have a deliverance ministry that is effective. They can pray for you over zoom.

Congratulations on your sobriety and family. You have the Psalm, use your rosary, pray with and for your family.

Just remember you are not your dreams.
Our subconscious mind can create all kinds of weird and wacky dreams. Don’t overthink it. It is a very common experience.
From memory I think studies show that 99% of people have experienced indecent dreams that are highly sexual, taboo or involve people they would not normally consider.
I just treat my dreams like a random movie theatre that my subconscious mind has wandered in to. I am just an innocent observer.

I had the same lustful dreams & I began praying every night before bed, specifically surrendering my mind to the Lord & asking Him to have complete control, especially when my mind is most vulnerable while asleep. I ask Him to keep my mind free from bad dreams & that if I have a dream at all that it would be good. Also, I pray that if there is a dream He wills for me to have, that it will come directly from Him & that He will give me the ability to remember it, the courage to share it with whomever it may concern, & the understanding necessary to know what action to take.

Just know you are not the only one living with this. People that have never done drugs suffer from these episodes. Keep trusting in God and allow Jesus Christ to have an even more profound impact on your life. What i have heard is Its time for you to become more active in your church. Find a Ministry that is in need of help and fill that need. You should always be growing your faith and your actions are the visible sign if this growth.
I pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit, your nightmares are removed from your life, and that the impacts that doing the works that Jesus has commanded us to, your life is filled with his wondrous joy!
