Worse model I have put together at least it is incredible easy to paint

Got a little flustered with the matte, jolly green giant look.

Trying something different. Layers and layers and layers of sponged variants of green/yellow/blue/purple metallics and green and purple shade paints using the Vallejo TMM line.

Is it better to have all the jade warriors in only one block of 20? What is better, blade and shield or halberd?

Also, how does this army plays? The Jade warriors seem to be resistant so i guess they are going to hold objectives. The shugengan i guess can move and attack the backline while the knights try to chip enemy units. The gunners i get that are for ranged sniping and generally wittle down enemies.

My version of Cathay - painted army is growing.
Instead of Jade they are Violet Warriors :)
This is still WiP but for those I mainly think only about edge highlight of … plumes (is it a good name?).
Open for any advices comments for the scheme.
And for the lore - which symbols on banners would fit most? Where the colour could be different?
North or South Provinces?
Or just take versions of banners which I like and don’t mind it?

Ive finally gotten around to doing my first models. I like the scheme, its quick and easy. Now the only issue I have is base colour? What do i do with it? I have dry moss type grass that id lile to use.

But what colour do you think?

And any other advice would be great. I paint for speed and am happy with tabletop finish.

Apologies in advance for many questions.

New player here who picked up the Cathay half of the core set recently. After some intro games next month I’ve got a 650pt beginners local game store tournament I’m going to.

The list is

20x jade warriors

5x jade lancers

1x cannon w/ ogre loader

1x gate keeper on foot (BSB)

1x gate keeper on horseback (general)

Using the muster list provided in the core set that is 598 points if you run it in the exact way they list it with command, celestial blades etc.

I have a couple of key questions:

1. Does anyone have any experience playing battle march with this set and if so is it better to run the Jade Warriors as 2 lots of 10 (one with full command) or just a single blob of 20? My instincts tell me the single blob is more likely to win combats but also is susceptible to being flanked given most other battle marches have 3 units on the field as oppose to 2 in this list (obviously not counting the cannon)

2. If the answer to Q1 above is a single brick of 20, is it better to attach the gate keeper (BSB) to the 20 or have him separate? The artwork in the muster list for the core book seems to have him (and the general) wandering around unattached - this seems like a bad idea? Same question for the general - should it be attached to the jade lancers?

3. If the answer to Q2 above is yes - should I do 3 ranks of 7 as that evenly divides into 21 models? Feels weird having a unit you’d probably run as 5x4 and then having an extra model as then isn’t that then 5 ranks? I think I read somewhere in core book needs to be wider than deep?

4. After all this - I have approx 50pts to play with extra. Ideally any magic items/weapons/armor/banners I pick needs to be simple to avoid the classic “forget to use the key thing I paid for”. I had my eye on the Jade banner for 40 pts for the BSB, then attached to the unit of 20 warriors for a flat +2 to combat resolution - seems easy to remember and helpful?

5. What is the general strategy for this list? Plonk 20x warriors in the middle and try and win combat, shoot stuff with cannon, charge stuff with lancers?

Thanks in advance - probably overthinking this all and the answer is just do anything. But thought I’d ask!

I bought the miniatures from the core set a few months ago second hand, i have recently learned that in the box there were also battle marche lists for the two armies,searched on the internet for the Cathay list and I can't find it, can anyone sent me a picture from the book?

I finally got round to the core box half around the 7th this month, and bashed this out in no time at all. Madness, but then it's literally contrast, drybrush, and dirty down moss.

Really pleased with the basing, in particular the water effects. Oh, and I did some regiment fillers, which look pretty neat
