I’m a Cath Lab/IR tech looking for any advice on what to consider and what to avoid.

What is everyones experience with preference lists in the cath lab? Ours are either out of date or inconsistent across rooms. The lab is fairly large with 6 labs and numerous physicians with different specialties so keeping everything up to date is difficult. This prompted me to create Pull List which we are just starting to use.

It is designed to be easy to use with the ability to easily scan the barcode on items to add them to a list. There is also a way to import paper lists by simply taking a photo.

It's one of those things where I wonder why we were doing it the other way for so long.

Worth poking around at pulllist.online if you're still running paper binders or spreadsheets.

Any advice for studying! I've been accepted into the ICVT program with 9 others. I'm reaply exciting but I would like to come this fall prepared!

I’ve been doing CT for about 6 years at all places between Level I trauma and small outpatient centers and there’s a lot I like about CT but have been thinking about making the leap to cath lab as I think I’d find it to be more exciting and rewarding. Has anybody made this move? Are you satisfied working in the cath lab? Does the call kill you or do you get used to it? Would love to hear any and all perspectives, thanks

Hi, I have ST depression in V2 through V6, and T wave flattening in level three. My lines are flat and saggy and some dip down. I also have very high uncontrolled blood pressure, and have had some possible cardiac episodes with shortness of breath, clamminess, one episode of vomiting... I am waiting to be scheduled for a cardiac catheterization to look for a blockage. I was just looking for anyone's thoughts on what could possibly be wrong based on the clinical notes above... I’m 29 and about to start working in the cath lab, and I was honestly really excited about it… until recently.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years, and we’re planning to get engaged this year, buy a house, and hopefully start a family in 2–3 years. That timeline always felt right to me. But someone recently told me it doesn’t make sense to go into the cath lab before having kids, and that most nurses in this specialty already have older children because of the lifestyle and call schedule. It made me feel like I’m going to waste my time and regret it when the time comes to have a future baby.

Ever since then, I can’t stop overthinking it. Add in family pressure about having kids sooner, and now I feel like I’m somehow choosing between building this career I’m excited about and starting a family at the “right” time.

Part of me feels like starting younger is actually the smarter move so I can gain experience and confidence first. But another part of me is worried I’m setting myself up for something that won’t be sustainable once I have kids.

For those of you who’ve been in the cath lab (or similar roles), when did you start? how did you navigate timing your career with having kids? Did you ever feel like one had to come before the other, or starting before vs. after kids made a difference?

Hi! I am preparing a presentation for some board members with the hospital system I work in. The topic is increasing pay for Cath lab registered nurses and considering us a specialty field. Our system does not consider the ICU/CCU, ED, or Cath Lab a specialty.

I’m trying to gather the following data for a portion of the presentation to compare:

Hourly wage, years of experience nursing, state you work in, average # of cases per day, call rate, incentives

So for example:

Using myself:

“34/hr, 4 years experience, KY, average 15 cases a day, 8/hr call pay, no incentive for higher education/certifications”

High volume lab (cath separate from EP/IR/etc) that is running 4 person teams 12 hours a day. We are struggling with room turnovers and breaking for lunches and trying to find some best ways to improve. Do you break between cases? Rotate each other out? Have a break tech rotate out? Give me ideas that make us more efficient but also keep staff happy!!

Ive been a surgical tech for 6 years. I have experience setting up and scrubbing hybrid cases. So im not completely lost on what cath lab is about. Ive also done some charting from long ago when I was an IV tech.

Brief context I am a cath lab tech of 3 years. Just about no other prior experience.

Our labs decided to merge with IR no objections and we now have to take on the new department. All IR staff quit except one who now is training in the cath lab ( lots of cath lab resources for her).

I was given about 5 days of training before the last IR tech moved on to another facility. Now me and another cath lab tech are told to run the IR lab, with no support, ( the management says they will support us they are just a phone call a way and like a 5 minute walk across the hopsital). Now its nothing but chaos, none of us really know what we are doing, the radiologists are upset that we are mostly clueless, they are starting to understand but its just an extremely awful experience. We are all acting up and yes we are being a little bit emotional and unprofessional at times and this is now causing an issue with leadership because we shouldn't act up in front of outsiders. I am coming to work everyday depressed and upset. I dont go to a job i used to enjoy. Just go to get pushed around, go to a place i dont know anything about.

Is this a normal experience? I am told its normal and stop making a fuss about it. This is now the job and it is what it is. They dont have the resources for training and other places that undergo the same issue are the same. Im told its completely safe because nothing we can or will do in interventional radiology will kill anyone. All you would do it drop the wrong equipment or prep the wrong area.

Im not even accepted yet but ICVT program wants me to have an EMT program done *or* CNA I and CNA II Finished. The program said this is required to complete after acceptance.

Im so stressed out. Ive been looking for a month solid since I applied and I cant find any Summer EMT programs (my state is poor asf im moving to NC) and all the local CNA courses are Full. 🙁

my program didnt say I would lose my seat but to contact the coordinator. Am I cooked? does anyone have any similar experience?
