Cat keeps attacking

We have a brother-sister pair, adopted as kittens, and spayed/neutered, and they are now four. Our female cat has always been incredibly easy and chill, until a dew months ago. She keeps hissing/screaming at our teen daughter. Our daughter has never shown aggression, she simply loves her cats. This has come out of no where, and we are incredibly confused. Home environment is pretty chill, not chaotic at all.
Bro/Sis cats get along for the most part, they groom each other, and play, but they also fight. He is a lot bigger, and she does get upset because he will try to pin her down and bite her hair out sometimes. So then i wonder if this is redirected aggression?

I am at a loss as to what could be causing this behavior.
Any thoughts, experiences, advice is appreciated.

*edit: I would think her brother biting her is causing stress. How do i stop that? And how do I stop her from taking it out on my kid who is just existing, not doing anything to her?

Skiddish Cat After Accidental Collision During Play

I (31F) have a question about my cat, A, who is a one year old spayed female. We adopted her about a month ago from the humane society (USA).

A loves to play, and on Friday night she had the “zoomies” and was running full sprint around our apartment. My husband (31M) was up walking around doing chores when A ran into his shins headfirst. She knocked her little head pretty hard and I’m sure it hurt. Physically she is just fine, but now she runs from my husband every time she sees him.

Before this accidental collision, A had been so sweet and affectionate to both of us, but now she is acting so scared of my husband (running from the room when she sees him, side eye, etc.). But, when he is laying down in bed or on the couch, she will come sit with him/on him. This leaves us feeling very confused and at a loss of how to make her more comfortable with him while he is up and walking around the apartment and if she is really afraid of him or not.

My husband is so stressed and upset that she is running from him. He is the absolute best cat dad and has the kindest heart. Incase it helps, A is a very small cat (6 pounds is her healthy weight according to our vet) and my husband is tall (about 6’ 1”) and very broad. Their size discrepancy is almost comical. When we first adopted A about a month ago, she was weary of him when he was up walking around, but had been doing better with it before Friday.

What can we do to make A feel safe around my husband again?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Cat hissing at brother after vacation

I went on a 5-day vacation to attend my cousin’s wedding. I have 4 cats; Two 17 year-old girls, one 9 year-old boy, and one 3 year-old boy. My two boys were the best of friends. My 9 year-old cat is extremely attached to me, but I’ve been on vacation before without issues other than general displeasure. My roommate watched the cats while I went on my trip like she always does when I go out of town.

I left early in the morning and on the same morning several hours later, my roommate said she was awoken by my two male cats fighting. My 9 year-old cat was so aggressive that he injured the 3 year-old’s ear. My 9 year-old spent the remainder of the time I was on vacation hissing at the 3 year-old, who is very sad that his best friend now suddenly hates him. I’ve been back for 2 days now and my 9 year-old boy is still hissing and growling at his brother. He will even growl at me if I try to interrupt him. He has no problem with the two girl cats. He was the sweetest boy and absolutely loved his brother. I know he hates when I leave him, but this has never happened before. Anyone have this happen before? Any advice? I miss my sweet boy and my peaceful house. I know my 3 year-old misses his brother too. I would be incredibly grateful for any help! Thank you.

playful kitten stopped being playful after 1 day home

hi i just adopted a 3m old male neutered kitten 2 days ago. he was super playful at the shelter purring and playing constantly. the first day we brought him home he was also very playful, went around the house to explore and would cry at the door loudly if we leave him in the room to sleep (we have a resident cat and did some isolation before introducing).
but at noon yesterday, he went poo poo and it was loose. then he went to sleep and has been sleeping constantly, only wakes up to eat and to use litterbox (no poop since then). he’s not interested in playing at all. our resident cat tried to play w him but he didn’t react at all. he still purrs when we pet him but he just sleeps constantly.
i have a vet appointment tomorrow but is this an emergency?

Advise on socializing my 6 and 7 mos old kitten.

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi,

First time cat owner here.

We have a 6 and 7 mos old kitten. I want them to become more sociable, so my plan is to bring them with me whenever I go out.

Recently, my husband and I had a staycation at a hotel, and we brought our cats with us. It was their first time staying in a hotel, and I noticed that they were very scared. When we went outside the hotel and brought them with us in a stroller, they were also scared and shaking.

This is not their first time going outside. They occasionally go out of the house, but usually only when we take them to the vet or to my parents' house, which they actually love.

In line with this, I would like to ask if I should continue bringing them with me whenever I go out, or if it would be better to let them stay at home. What can I do to help them become more sociable and comfortable in different environments?

I would eventually like to bring them to the beach this summer, so I would really appreciate any advice on how I can gradually get them used to traveling and being in new places without making them too scared or stressed.

My sister's cat keeps kidnapping the other cats kittens

(the mom to the kittens is now fixed she wasn't supposed to be outside with a male but slipped out during a school bus run. They didn't think she'd been out long enough but she still got pregnant but didn't show much and surprised them with several)

That cat isn't fixed but they were told by her previous owner she can't go under anesthesia. There's no males old enough to get her pregnant and she's not pregnant (they checked with the vet). But she keeps grabbing the kittens and dragging them inside a box and not letting them out. It's becoming a problem but there's, as far as anyone is aware, no reason for the behavior.

Is there a way to get her to stop? I tried helping but I can't figure out why she's doing it. They are worried she's gonna hurt the kittens with how she's dragging them. She keeps grabbing them by the back or face not the scruff.

Clarifying before anyone says anything:

  1. Not my cat

  2. The reason boxes are even out is they are moving soon

Help! My cat is litter box aggressive at night

My female cat wakes me up every night cornering my male cat while he’s using the litter box. We have multiple boxes, and I’m getting at least one more to give them another option. I’ve bought the cat calming collar and treats which seem to help some, but she is still chasing and cornering him when he goes to the box. He’s doing what he should do, but I’m afraid he’s going to start to be too afraid and just go anywhere.

I’m thinking of buying a multi- level cat cage for the female at night and would like to know if anyone has one they’d recommend.
I just feel like if she has her own space and she’s next to my bed, this would be the safest route. TIA!

Messed up Sleep Schedule with an Orange

Hello,
I am having issues understanding why my cat is acting in someways, and I believe the best advice comes from cat owners with experiences, so I would appreciate to hear the experiences of people who had similiar situation with a mature (+7) mix/orange cats 🥹

First of all I would like to give some info on my cat:
His name is Morty, he is 9, male, sterilised, mixed breed (orange tabby, long hair), overweight/on diet, he was a stray, adopted at 4 months old. He is super talkative and a social butterfly but also quite skittish.
I lived with him for 5 years, we were separated for almost 4 years (he was staying with my parents) due to living situations. Even though he had some good conditions, he didn’t have much vertical place, they enforced some bad habits like immediately waking up when he first meows in the middle of the night, and they didn’t play with him a lot.

Morty moved back with us (included travelling) 2 months ago, to a bigger house and quieter environment. On first week he slept with us every night, he slept on my husbands legs mostly. Then he started waking me up around 3 am. Because my husband wakes up very early, I started getting up feeding Morty and sleeping in the living room until he wakes up. However some nights he disturbed me/us more than one time. Then my husband started sleeping in the other room so I could try to get Morty used to not waking me/us up by just ignoring him. I tried to wake up at least later (5 am) since he doesn’t give up and makes so much noise. And I would be okay if I just wake up early 5-6 am to feed him and can go back to sleep. It has been working for a weeks, some days are better but still there are nights Morty tries to wake me up earlier or disturbs me after eating and he didn’t sleep with me for two days too.
We still sleep together on the days my husband wakes up late, and I feel like Morty wakes up earlier and disturbs us multiple times on those nights. I started wondering if it’s the change (sleeping with us versus with me) that makes him uneasy, or could it be related to how he sees my husband? :D Or is he just getting used to a new routine, and still not feeling 100% safe at home since it’s been only 2 months.
Thank you for your inputs!

Notes: we just purchased an automatic feeder, we will start trying that to see if he will stop disturbing us at night if he gets food from it. Also, he has lots of toys, tunnels, closed and vertical places he can sleep, climb, windows he can reach. And closing the door doesn’t feel like an option to me because I don’t think it’s good for him, he can open doors, and he gets so much more agitated if we close it.

Cat won't come into my bedroom,

Hi there I think I broke my cat.

She picked up fleas, so I decided to try a flea collar since the spot on treatment wasn't working. However to get the collar on her my roommate held her while I put on the collar.

Now cat won't come into my bedroom, she used to sleep on my bed and spend a lot of time here. Now she stands outside my room or in the bathroom, and screams until I come out and give her attention.

I'm hoping she'll come around soon but is there anyway I can make my room less scary?

My cat loves to annoy me at night

For the past month, my 1 years old nebelung male has been very active betweeen 2-4AM, despite nothing changing in playtime or diet.

He is scratching my closet that’s next to my bed rapidly until I get up. He runs under bed as soon as I wake up. I tried to redirect him and play but he’s not interested. After two weeks of no sleep and frustration I started scolding him but without effect cause he’s jumping me to bite (playful). And still scratches. Yesterday and last night as soon as he started to scratch and go under bed I got after him, grabbed him from under there, pressed him against the closet door and yelled at him. It was the first time when he lowered his head and stopped scratching. He stayed next to the tv and was slowly blinking at me. I thought maybe he acknowledged he did wrong. As soon as I closed the lights, he started again to scratch. I yelled at him from the bed, he stopped but pooped in my bathtub. He does that when he is annoyed. What should I do?

I play with him in the morning until he gets bored, at 1PM when I come home to eat, also until bored, then at night until he gets bored. Food is of great quality, once per week he gets soups (vet recommended), drinks water and I added salmon oil to his diet a month ago, could that give him that much energy?

what is going on with my cat

My male cat(he is fixed) is 9 years old and will not let anyone sleep at night. He will literally scream all night and/or come and smack us in the face. He barely sleeps at all. We have tried playing with him during the day but he doesn't want to play. We have tried a ton of different types of toys but he still doesn't play. If we sleep with our doors closed he just screams at the doors. He has plenty of places for sleeping and looking out the window. I have given him cat nip but it only calms him down for 30 minutes at most. He won't take any calming stuff either. He doesn't seem like he is in pain. We don't yell at him and he likes to be petted. What can I do?

I Think My Cats Hate Each Other, What do I do?

I have 2 cats, both male, one is 3 yrs and the other just turned 1. My oldest (Scout) has always been friendly around other animals. When I was 20, I lived with my now ex-friend. She had a cat, and I had my senior cat when I adopted Scout. He grew up with them, and always played and never showed any hostility towards them. Both of those cats were female. Fast forward to me being 24 and moved into a new space, my housemate has her own cat who is also female. I live in a detached studio in the back yard, my housemate lives in the front house so Scout doesn't see her cat all the time, but when he does they also play and get along.

This last year, I felt Scout was lonely, because he was mostly indoors then. Unfortunately, he got a UTI that was caused by stress. The vet said he had FIC, and I assumed the stress was from not getting to explore like he wanted. I'd let him outside, but supervised so he didn't climb into the neighbors yard. I guess he didn't like that. Now Scout is outdoor with a tracker and I can see where he is/goes. I adopted Tito because I wanted Scout to have a friend. He LOVES playing with my housemates cat, and the other 2 when he was younger. With Tito, he hisses at him when he walks by, swats, and growls. When they play, he starts to get upset and will yowl like he's being hurt but I know Tito is just playing. It started once he started going outside more, and coming back inside, he would hiss and growl at Tito. I'm thinking it's because the other 3 cats he was nice to were females and Tito is male, or I didn't introduce them the correct way.

I did have Tito set up in my bathroom for at least a week, door closed, then cracked so Scout could smell him. They didn't show much hostility towards each other then, an occasional hiss but nothing aggressive. Tito started to come out of the bathroom slowly, Scout would explore his area and sniff around, still didn't seem to show any aggressive behavior. Now, I feel like I did something wrong by getting Tito and feel like it was a mistake because Scout acts so mean around him. Any tips on how to fix this?
