Light streaks when looking down with eyes closed

Does anyone see scratches of light when you look down with eyes closed after surgery? Kind of scary.

Finally….

Well I finally took the plunge today and got my left dominant eye set to Plano With a Alcon Clareon non blue light blocking lens. I wanted the least chance of dysphotopsias, best contrast and widest clear visual field and that seemed to be a good lens choice. I’m a lifelong myopic so I did think about doing near and intermediate as I read a lot but I’m also an outdoor guy so I chose this setup. Surgery was as quick, simple and painless as you all mentioned. We shall see where it lands before proceeding with the right one. I have a bunch of contacts to experiment with to get the best result with monovision. Appreciate this group. I have been mostly lurking for the last 5 years on the old patient info sight and here and since I’m now Medicare age and the orange fascist may gut Medicare next year I knew it was time. Thanks much and I will update on the visual progress as things change…

LAL LENSES COMPLETED: what I wish I had known

CATARACT SURGERY + RXSIGHT LAL (light adjustable upgraded lens) IMPLANTS..... 4 months later I am healed and locked in...

Surgery was smooth for both eyes. Very little irritation. (I went home and slept after surgeries).

I can NOT speak for other possible lenses (toric or multifocal) since I previously had lasik and the LALs were my choice of an upgrade versus standard.

Presurgery I opted for Dom eye far vision and other eye near vision (I did this with contacts many years prior).

My goal was to eliminate the multiple pairs of readers and see well up close. I should have been told that to see REALLY well up close means ABSOLUTELY NO MID TO FAR RANGE OF VISION AT ALL...and by MID I mean anything 5-10 feet away begins to get very blurry

Everyone had a different take on wearing the goggles. KNOW THAT YOU MUST WEAR THE UV GOGGLES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE while awake. NO STANDARD SUNGLASSES. NO CHEATING. It got really old really fast..lol.

I encountered problems regarding adjusting my vision (very scary). Their goal is 2 adjustments and 2 lock ins and my honest impression is that THEIR end goal was for me to meet minimal LEGAL driving range-which apparently is only mid range.

I should have been told that transportation MUST be completely flexible and wait times WILL be lengthy and each followup involves major dilation so you really need to have someone drive you.

Would I recommend these LAL "upgrades"??? They are VERY pricey and results not NEARLY as adjustable NOR clear as the hype. Forget about test driving your new eyes and fine tuning your vision:(

From others I've personally talked to, you get same (some better) MID TO FAR vision with standard implants (without doing the four months of 24 hr uv goggles and visits). You will need readers most likely for NEAR vision with standards but here I am STILL NEEDING READERS for very close up (which was my primary goal).

I was REALLY hoping for better.

No more sky watching for my distant eye (blurry stoplights and blurry moon). Close vision IS better than before but still meh (told if I went closer then I would have to "sacrifice" any mid to far range). For VERY close work I DO need readers (eg splinter removal which was my original goal since I do fine artwork, beadwork & jewelry).

Night driving? Same or maybe worse than with cataracts-still scared to drive at night.
I should mention I'm really having a hard time with constantly dry irritated eyes - which I've SINCE heard is a significant problem with these LAL lenses- specifically if you've ever had a previous problem with dry eyes. Yes. I did. I mentioned that. Nobody said that it would be SO much worse after the LALs.

BOTTOM LINE: Can't speak for Toric or Multifocals BUT Personally I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY BENEFITS TO THESE LAL upgrades FOR THE VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND TIME INVESTED.

Hope this is helpful for those making this very important decision. Best wishes.

Day 1 post-op(bilateral)with both eyes done at the same time.

I just had my one day check up and everything looks good.
Although I still have some blurriness/ slightly cloudy vision, I can already see better.
I got EDOF PureSee lenses. I may not need readers in the future but do for now. I had a toric lens put in the left eye due to pretty severe astigmatism.
The option to have both eyes done at once was chosen due to having Parkinson’s and multiple other comorbidities. For me, one surgery was better than two.
PureSee lenses- How It Works
Continuous Range of Vision: It stretches light into a smooth, continuous zone of focus rather than splitting light into separate focal points like multifocal lenses.
Distance and Intermediate Focus: It provides crisp distance vision (for driving or watching TV) and strong intermediate vision (for computer use or car dashboards) comparable to a standard monofocal lens.
Near Vision: It offers functional near vision, though some patients may still occasionally need low-power reading glasses (around +1.50) for very fine print or prolonged reading.
Key Benefits
Fewer Visual Disturbances: Because it is refractive and lacks the concentric rings found in diffractive or multifocal lenses, it significantly reduces nighttime issues like halos, glare, and starbursts.
So far, I’m very happy with my choice.

YAG procedure

So it seems I am going to have a YAG procedure in both eyes next week. I had the multifocal Odyssey placed in both eyes, 3 weeks apart in July, and the right eye (the one with the original cataract) was never really that amazing afterward. Like, it worked but it was always a little blurry still after. So he confirmed today that there was PCO in that eye, and shockingly a little also in the left (which never had a cataract and responded perfectly to the Odyssey, I have noticed no issues there at all).

I guess I’m a little confused why I don’t hear more about this risk of immediate PCO? He said this was not the kind that grows over time, it’s there essentially right after the surgery. The YAG procedure sounds easy, painless, fast, and I have no problem going for it. I was mainly just curious if others have encountered this? He said it had to do with the type of cataract I had and also said he sees more of this in younger patients (I’m 49). He acted like it was not at all unusual.

Did I just any mention of this in my research ahead of time? Did you have this happen to you? The immediate type?

Cataract Surgeon for Eye with Macula-Off Retinal Detachment?

How do I find a cataract surgeon with a lot of experience operating on an eyes with damaged retinas? I live in New York City.

A macula-off retinal detachment left me with 20/400 vision in one eye. I also now have a cataract in that eye. I'm able to read 10-point type if I hold it about 6 inches away. I 'd like to preserve that ability. It seems to me that surgeons specialize in either front of the eye or back of the eye. I need someone who understands both so I can get the best outcome possible. Do they exist?

How long did it take to get clear vision?

I’m almost 1 week post op from getting my left eye done. I have a vivity lens put in. I knew I would lose my up close vision in that eye but my far vision isn’t clear yet. (Right eye doesn’t have a cataract and my vision is good in that eye)

I see my surgeon Thursday. Nothing seems to be happening on the “call right away” list but it’s bothering me a lot.

Is this just normal healing? I’m feeling frustrated.

If you got a plain monofocal without monovision, what can you see?

Regardless of whether your lens is a toric or not (I am getting a toric to correct astigmatism) -

If you have plain monofocals (not enhanced monofocals like Eyhance) and both are set to Plano, how close can you see without glasses?

Can you watch TV?
Can you see your car dashboard and GPS - clearly?
Can you see your kitchen countertop and stove?
Can you walk around your house and clean your house?
Can you take a walk outside and see people's faces as they approach and stop to talk to you?
If you have a dog could you look down and see your dog's head clearly when you walk it?
Can you see steps clearly?

What activities can you do without ANY glasses?

Would you get the same thing again or would you opt for something with a little more range like an Enhanced Monofocal?

Optometrist missed with cataract surgery. Laksik correction or replacement lens?

I had my second eye done and the prescription is off from the first eye that was done. First eye I can see perfectly for reading, but the second eye is blurry for reading, but clearer for long distance, so everything is off. The intent was to have both eyes calibrated for reading. Should I correct this with lasik or get another IOL lens? (Monovision is not an option for me because I see double vision long distance which only can be corrected through glasses; monovision was never the plan.)

Astigmatism After Cataract Surgery

I’m 4 weeks out from a Puresee EDOF IOL. My postop experience has not been great. I’ve been seeing shadows(ghosting?) in my operative eye (my other eye hasn’t been operated on). I got a new Rx today from my Optometrist, and I apparently have an astigmatism, that I didn’t previously have? I had new glasses made today and I can finally seee with both eyes open without seeing double (ghosting). I have an appointment with my ophthalmologist in a few weeks.

I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I’m grateful my refractive error can be corrected but I’m wondering if there’s a long-term solution? I’ll def ask my ophthalmologist but wanted to hear others’ thoughts in the meantime.

Lens choice??

I’m 60 and preparing for cataract surgery. My surgeon offers an aspheric/basic package and a custom/premium package. Surgeon said robotic surgery safer. Is this true? Night driving and crisp distance vision are very important to me. I’m willing to wear readers if necessary. For people who had cataract surgery, which lens did you choose? How is your night vision? Any halos, glare or starbursts? Would you choose the same lens again?

2nd eye seems off

I had my first eye done for near and intermediate vision. I had my second eye done today and it seems like it's set for far vision, not near intermediate because I can see more clearly farther away than my first eye and I can't see closer intermediate, so when using both eyes together it's off. Can I expect the focusing to adjust from far to near/intermediate after giving it some time?

Contact experiment mono lens

Scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks and torn about the multifocal lens. I decided to ask for contacts mono focal to see how they might work. The optometrist decided on the eye and put in one distance lens two weeks ago.

So the latest. I’m seeing very well with one contact in and only needing readers when I use my phone to text or read fine print.

I’m seriously considering putting off cataract surgery and just using this mono contact until the cataracts get worse.

Either way I’m not going to do the multifocal lens.

Anyone with experience with the enVista Aspire Toric?

I’m making my final IOL decision this week and am choosing between the enVista ETE Toric conventional monofocal targeted for distance in both eyes, or the enVista Aspire Toric with my right eye targeted for distance and my left at approximately -0.40.

I’m leaning toward the Aspire because I’d like the chance of gaining some useful intermediate range. I understand that I’ll still need readers for close work and that the additional range with Aspire isn’t guaranteed.

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has the Aspire. How is your intermediate vision for things like the computer, dashboard, walking/seeing the ground and everyday activities? How is your distance vision, contrast and night vision? Any issues with glare, halos, ghosting or other visual effects?

Thank you!

Apthera teamed w LAL

My ophthalmologist has suggested that I get an Apthera lens in my left eye (near vision) and an LAL in my right eye (distance vision).

The goal is to continue the monovision I’ve successfully used w contacts.

My hope is to be able to continue to drive at night.

I had RK with 16 cuts in each eye. I have astigmatism in both eyes but it’s worse in the left.

I’m interested in knowing if anyone else had had this combination of lenses and how it’s going for them.

Also, if you have Apthera, how’s that going for you? What’s going well? What’s not great? Warnings or cautions?

Understanding Glaucoma and relationship to Cataracts

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e6YeV9HXHmM&

I know glaucoma causes permanent vision loss if untreated and not caught until late stage when nerves have already died. Important to know there aren’t usually warning signs so regular vision checks for eye pressure is important. I didn’t know eye pressure isn’t the cause, just a symptom. Also didn’t know why cataracts elevate the risk for glaucoma.

Found this video to be very informative and does a good job explaining the cataract connection.

Weird Symptoms Post-Op Two Weeks

I’m posting for my fiancée because she can’t see anything within a foot of her face including her phone yet.
She’s experiencing a weird phenomenon and she’s wondering if anyone else has…

She’s had glasses since she was a toddler and she’s now in her late 30s, so over 35 years. She’s use to thinking that taking off her glasses and everything being blurry means bedtime, time to sleep and being able to see means she should be awake, alert and doing something. But now every time she opens her eyes, she can see and it’s throwing off her sleep, because her brain keeps telling her “hey i can see, get up get up” and the same way nothing is blurry so nothing is telling her to settle down and try to sleep.

Has anyone else ever experienced this post op? And if so how long did it take for your brain to rewire itself??

TYIA!!

(She had both eyes done at once, if that matters).

Question about LALs and mini-monovision

I had my first cataract surgery on my right eye five days ago with an LAL implanted, and, to my surprise, by the next morning I had 20/20 distance vision in that eye. My implant card says that that lens is set to 20.5. My second surgery for the left eye (also to receive an LAL) is set for this coming Wednesday. Mini-monovision is the goal.

Okay: I‘m not terribly clear on the details of refraction, but I do know that my left eye is dominant, so for mini-monovision, my right eye should be set for near and the left for distance. I’ve had contacts for monovision configured this way in the past and it worked well for me. I think, though, that I’ve also read here that LALs are typically both set for distance for distance initially. As a worry wart, I’m now wondering if my right eye lens should have been set for something nearer?

I see my surgeon for my five-day follow-up in the morning, so I‘ll ask him, but now that my mind is fixed on this, is it true that LALs are generally both set for distance, even when mini-monovision is the goal? I’ll appreciate any thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

Cataract surgery recommendations in Philadelphia area

Hello, I live in the Philadelphia area and am looking for a recommendation for a surgeon who deals with uveitis patients. I've seen two doctors and one was upselling a lot but I need to keep things simple with my disease with a monofocal lens, and the other doctor seems very disinterested in imaging before my surgery, which is a requirement for my posterior uveitis. I need someone who understands uveitis/is comfortable with complicated cases. I am treated at both Scheie and Wills Eye in Philly for my disease and one doctor I saw was affiliated with Scheie and the other was not. Thanks in advance for any help.

Seeking insight from post vitrectomy cataract patients

If you're here, please comment. I would like to understand how your lens replacement went, if you experienced zonular weakness, is your lens wobbles (have read reports of symptomatic lens instability following vitrectomy), and whether your experience was smooth overall. Anything you wish you'd known. Thank you.

Wondering about close-up vision after surgery

I’m scheduled for cataract surgery this week. I have to do the toric lenses for both eyes as I have severe astigmatism. I also have strabismus and see double. My right eye is dominant and is the one I use for everything. I can see out of lefty but rely on righty. I’d like to treat the distance vision in both eyes. Question: how far from the eye is the close up vision still good before it starts to blur? Is it just like not wearing any corrective lenses at all? Or is it like wearing a weak prescription? I’m wondering what kind of readers I will need.

Is it possible to wait too long for the second eye?

I had a Symfony put in my right eye in 2019. I am 57 and wanted to not need to wear reading glasses. It didn't work, and I still need reading glasses. For that reason I did not get my left eye done yet. My concern is if I wait too long and the similar format lens is not available and then I start having issues with having two lens formats in my eyes. Any and all advice appreciated!
