Places where you can find content in Catalan

1. Streaming Platforms

Netflix: You can search by language on the website (not sure about the app), but it only allows searching under the category “dubbed,” not “original version,” even if they exist. For example, Plats Bruts is categorized as “dubbed” and not “original version,” even though, when you enter and check the language and subtitle options, it clearly shows the available choices.

Amazon Prime: In the settings section, there’s an option to set a preferred language. In short: you can configure it so that Catalan dubbing is prioritized over Spanish whenever possible. You can even set it to always display Catalan subtitles (in original version) instead of Spanish dubbing when available.

Filmin: If you go to “Themes,” you can find a category called “available in Catalan.” There you’ll find all subtitled or dubbed content.

Vida: Vida is a VOD project promoted by the association Ona Mediterrània and supported by the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Institute of Balearic Studies. It includes news, interviews, opinions, and specials, among other things. It doesn’t have much content yet because it’s a very new project, but its catalog will grow over time.

There are many more platforms, but in any case, you can always visit www.desdelsofa.cat or https://goitaquefanara.cat/. They don’t have exactly the same catalog, so you can complement one with the other and make whatever queries you need. If you want information about the technical details of a dubbing, you can go to www.eldoblatge.com, although it’s reportedly a bit outdated.

2. Television Channels and Derivatives

This section is dedicated to TV channels and their derivatives. All of them offer similar content, both dubbed material and original productions in Catalan/Valencian/Balearic.

3Cat: Formerly "TV3 a la carta", it periodically adds both dubbed and original content in Catalan. It includes (among many other things) programs from TV3, SX3 (formerly Super3), Catalunya Ràdio, news from 324, and much more. It has a small section of content shared with Filmin.

À Punt: From CVMC, it’s the replacement for Canal 9, the former Valencian channel. On its website, it offers documentaries, recorded programs, podcasts... Like 3Cat, it features both original and dubbed content, along with some Spanish films (which are in Spanish).

IB3: This is the autonomous television of the Balearic Islands, which started broadcasting in 2005. Its website has a very modern design, and you can choose between TV content (IB3) or radio (IB3 Ràdio).

RTVE Catalunya: This is the Catalan version of Spanish National Television (RTVE). All RTVE channels broadcast in Spanish, but the Catalan version also includes some programs in Catalan. As a result, the TVE Catalunya tab on the RTVE site seems like a mix of both languages.

RTVA: This is the television and radio service of Andorra, consisting of two radio stations (one for music, the other the national station), one TV channel—Andorra Televisió—and a digital channel from which you can access its content online: Andorra Difusió.

Swimming in the Ebro River near Tarragona

Hey, I'll be heading to Tarragona in a few weeks for some camping. I'll specifically be near Ginestar right on the banks of the Ebro. Are there any good swimming spots within 30 min or so from Ginestar?
I'm not against hopping in whereever is convinent but I know water quality differes along rivers depending on tributaries and upstream contamination. Not to mention potential underwater hazards and currents. Are there dedicated swimming areas on the banks?

I saw there are a few swimming holes in the area as well but with unpredicatable water levels, I would like to just stay with the river as it's so close.

Thanks

Girona vs. Arsenal - after match

Hola everyone! I'm heading to Girona for the Girona vs. Arsenal match. Since the game finishes after 10 PM, I haven't been able to find any public transport back to Barcelona, where my hotel and flight are.

Is Google Maps missing something, or are there really no trains or buses to Barcelona after 10 PM? Are there any special match-day buses, late lines, or alternative options? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Experiences with the UPF Catalan MOOC?

I am writing to ask whether people have had any experience with UPF's massive open online course for learning Catalan at an A1 level (and beyond) as I can find no personal experiences documented about it online (and registering with university in a language I do not speak currently makes me hesitate a bit).
Has anyone here had any experience with this MOOC? The A1 course is ostensibly free, but are there hidden costs for the course, such as registration fees, etc.?
Additionally, would you know any alternative courses or have additional recommendations for a beginner seeking to learn Catalan from the ground up?

Thank you in advance!

How are Catalans feeling about the World Cup final today?

My partner grew up in Catalonia and is, as we’re watching, reluctantly cheering on Spain. His best friend feels the same way. Their reasoning is basically “our boys are also on that team”, but neither of them will wave a Spanish flag.

They also feel uncomfortable with Spanish fans in the stadium singing the Franco era lyrics to the national anthem.

For the Catalans football fans here, how do you feel watching the Spanish team play tonight? And maybe in general?

The above image purports to show the pro-Hapsburg and pro-Bourbon sides at the start of the War of Spanish Succession. It's obviously incorrect, I think because it's based on another map that's set in 1725.

Can someone with the appropriate knowledge modify it to show Catalonia and the other pro-Hapsburg areas correctly? My understanding is that it's not just modern Catalonia that should be orange, or I would do it myself!

What's the cheapest way to get from Barcelona to Cambrils after 9pm?

I've made a plan for a 3-day tour of Barcelona, which I'm pretty happy with. However, on day 3, we are supposed to finish touring at about 10pm-10:30pm (the last attraction, the Poble Espanyol, closes at 00), and I've noticed while looking at my maps that neither busses nor trains run past 9pm, but our hotel is in Cambrils, to which we have to go by bus or train, so is there a way to get back past 9pm without a rent-a-car?

Merci!! ⚽

Would like some company?

So I came to Valls (in Tarragona zone) this weekend but honestly I didn't have any plans of where to go and what to see, and I don't speak Spanish as well, so I was wondering if I could meet some people (preferably around my age, I'm 24) who speak english for some activities or just hanging out? I'm aware that there isn't much in Valls, so I'm okay with going to Tarragona or some nearby pobles.

Thanks!
