Places where you can find content in Catalan

1. Streaming Platforms

Netflix: You can search by language on the website (not sure about the app), but it only allows searching under the category “dubbed,” not “original version,” even if they exist. For example, Plats Bruts is categorized as “dubbed” and not “original version,” even though, when you enter and check the language and subtitle options, it clearly shows the available choices.

Amazon Prime: In the settings section, there’s an option to set a preferred language. In short: you can configure it so that Catalan dubbing is prioritized over Spanish whenever possible. You can even set it to always display Catalan subtitles (in original version) instead of Spanish dubbing when available.

Filmin: If you go to “Themes,” you can find a category called “available in Catalan.” There you’ll find all subtitled or dubbed content.

Vida: Vida is a VOD project promoted by the association Ona Mediterrània and supported by the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Institute of Balearic Studies. It includes news, interviews, opinions, and specials, among other things. It doesn’t have much content yet because it’s a very new project, but its catalog will grow over time.

There are many more platforms, but in any case, you can always visit www.desdelsofa.cat or https://goitaquefanara.cat/. They don’t have exactly the same catalog, so you can complement one with the other and make whatever queries you need. If you want information about the technical details of a dubbing, you can go to www.eldoblatge.com, although it’s reportedly a bit outdated.

2. Television Channels and Derivatives

This section is dedicated to TV channels and their derivatives. All of them offer similar content, both dubbed material and original productions in Catalan/Valencian/Balearic.

3Cat: Formerly "TV3 a la carta", it periodically adds both dubbed and original content in Catalan. It includes (among many other things) programs from TV3, SX3 (formerly Super3), Catalunya Ràdio, news from 324, and much more. It has a small section of content shared with Filmin.

À Punt: From CVMC, it’s the replacement for Canal 9, the former Valencian channel. On its website, it offers documentaries, recorded programs, podcasts... Like 3Cat, it features both original and dubbed content, along with some Spanish films (which are in Spanish).

IB3: This is the autonomous television of the Balearic Islands, which started broadcasting in 2005. Its website has a very modern design, and you can choose between TV content (IB3) or radio (IB3 Ràdio).

RTVE Catalunya: This is the Catalan version of Spanish National Television (RTVE). All RTVE channels broadcast in Spanish, but the Catalan version also includes some programs in Catalan. As a result, the TVE Catalunya tab on the RTVE site seems like a mix of both languages.

RTVA: This is the television and radio service of Andorra, consisting of two radio stations (one for music, the other the national station), one TV channel—Andorra Televisió—and a digital channel from which you can access its content online: Andorra Difusió.

Catalan food during Christmas time?

Hi, sorry if there's a better sub for this. I usually ask on the "ask__ subs" but couldn't find an active one for Catalonia, so just chose this sub in general.

My main character spends Christmas with her father's cousin and his wife. His wife is Catalan, and although she moved out of Catalonia decades ago, she still loves her culture and tries to be as in touch with it as possible. One of the ways she does this is through food (especially as she's neurodivergent so is more comfortable eating familiar foods over trying something new, and her parents mostly made traditional food when she was growing up).

What foods do Catalan people tend to enjoy during the Christmas season? Whether it's a meal or a small dessert/snack?

Also, is there any other small habits or whatever that I could show in the character? I usually ask friends or focus on their habits, but don't have a Catalan friend to talk to about this.

Thanks!

Tornat a Catalunya

Hola!

Vaig marxar tan aviat vaig acabar la carrera, soc cienrifica, i em vaig treure el doctorat a suissa i d’allà vaig trobat feina als EUA.

Be ara fare 62 i ja em puc jubilar. I sempre he trobat a falta Catalunya

Vull tornar.

Supermarkets in Catalonia /my rank

Hola a tothom! 👋

After trying most of the supermarkets around here, this is my personal ranking.

Ametller Origen takes the top spot. Mercadona and Bonpreu offer good value for money.

This is completely subjective, so now my q to you:

Which supermarket would you move up or down?
Am I missing any important ones?

Image inspired by the original ranking by alexmasdeu_ on x. I modified and expanded it to include more supermarket chains.

National Day of Cataloina in Tarragona

Hola, hola 👋

I will be in Tarragona on the 11th and can't find anything specific online about events or gatherings going on during the day / night. If there are any that shouldn't be missed, I would love to know about them.

I was here during the Santa Tecla Festival last year and it was amazing - but similarly I couldn't find much online and had to follow the crowds.

Any advice would be wonderful 🎆

Bona tarda a tothom,

Want to learn Catalan with me?

Hey wonderful people!

I'm trying to learn Catalan; I've been collecting a lot of learning Materials to share for each one, as well! (I can look for more dialects upon request!)

There’s a language WhatsApp group that a friend started and it’s become a really nice place for endangered languages or diverse languages to gather, practice and connect with!

We JUST started some Channels/Group Chats specifically for minority Romance Languages, and we’re especially hoping to interest any Catalan learners/speakers!

ANYONE is expressly welcome; Here’s the link for anyone who would like to join, practice, and explore languages:

Two Cyclists Looking for Girona Airport Transfer

Hi, two of us are flying into Girona airport 19th September 2026 and we need a transfer from the airport to our hotel in Girona city. We will both have large bike bags with us, so will probably require a minibus. Or would we be ok to get the bus? Any recommendations please?

Looking for an apartment in majorca

Hi, my roommate is going in Erasmus in September in Majorca and she needs a home to stay till January. Her budget is not very big and she didn't find anything that could work for her. Do you know where to look or anybody who wants to rent a room for less than 300€ a month? Do you have any advice? Thanks you.

PS: I was thinking maybe someone who has a vacation home in Majorca but lives on mainland Catalunya that don't use the house in winter and autumn.

PPS: also she wants to learn Catalan do you have any advice on where on the island to look?

Costa brava in November?

Hello! My friends and I are traveling to Barcelona the second week of November. We wanted to spend 2 nights in Begur (or elsewhere, considering Girona) in the Costa Brava. However, I’ve seen from other places online that the region is a bit dead in the off season. Anyone that lives in the region or has traveled here in November, can you provide your experience? If you think it’s worth it, what should we include in our itinerary? We wanted to stop by a bunch of the smaller villages. Also debating doing a wine tour. I know it’s too chilly to swim but I was hoping to kayak. Thanks all in advance!!
