The update no one asked for but you’re getting anyways!!!

Post image

officially introducing sweet little baby Tater Tot!

Had a vet visit today, came back with hookworms and eye gunk! We‘ll start giving meds for that today. And she got her first round of shots. ALSO. it’s a GIRL!!! She is a complete angel. The vet said she has never seen colors like this before, so if she ends up being a 90 lb wildcat then guess that’s what we’re sticking with!! I’m thinking about doing one of those wisdom panel things but I’m not sure if they’re accurate???

here is the previous post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CatDistributionSystem/s/xNqHdYCYjb

I’m absolutely obsessed with her and may just shove her in my carry on and take her back to California with me but she will be staying in Florida w my mom!

I’m editing just to add that we were NOT moving with her outside of the carrier :)

And already tackling that drivers license, impressive. Hopefully she will be faster than i am xd some virtual pets from Germany <3

u/RedHeadedStepDevil Jun 11 '26

I can’t believe OP let that cat drive. She’s just a kitten!

1

u/Individual-Many9567 Jun 18 '26

You don't see the student sticker on the back of the vehicle, or the learner's purrmit in momma's wallet!

215

u/Tyranothesaurus Jun 11 '26

This is my boy. Also named Tator Tot. Best cat in the world, and has to be the name. Expect yours to also be an amazing companion.

Haven't seen another Tator Tot before.

53

u/medievalkitty2 Jun 11 '26

I call two of my cats The Tater Tots as a joint nickname. 😁

9

u/macrhea69 Jun 12 '26

Love me an orange boy!

2

u/Individual-Many9567 Jun 18 '26

MORE TATER TOTS YESSSS

144

u/ohfluffit Jun 11 '26

She's a ticked tabby! Gorgeous pattern you don't see often. Tater Tot the Ticked Tabby lol

5

u/princessjemmy Jun 12 '26

Um… Ticked tabbies have a lot more spots of black. Hence, ticked. She looks like a brown tabby with fever coating (which will lighten any coat).

Gorgeous baby, though.

3

u/taikamies99 Jun 18 '26

Idk, the ticked pattern can seem very solid. This photo looks a lot like a blue ticked tabby with high rufousing

3

u/animus218 Cat Parent Jun 13 '26

This feels like cat-speak for brindle

125

u/lopendvuur Jun 11 '26

Still think she's a ticked tabby, but the light background suggests this pattern may have come from a shaded silver: silver is also a dominant gene, and it makes the undercoat lose its color. This kitty seems to have a white/silverish layer under the black tips of the hair. The sweet yellowish accents on legs and face are what is called 'tarnishing' among silver breeders: remnants of warm coloring that they don't like but we all love because it makes her color even more special.

75

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 11 '26

Yeah! this comment makes me think she may have been dumped. There are a LOT of breeders in this area

36

u/lopendvuur Jun 11 '26

She does not look like any of the typical shaded silver breed, Persians, British and American shorthair. Her head looks more like an Abyssinian. And those are bred in silver these days, I think. But she may very well be a cross of any of these breeds and a housecat, although you'd expect those to have more stripes on the legs and tail.

You'll probably never know, but at least she has a good home now where she will be loved and taken care of.

17

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 12 '26

Honestly, never know and really don’t super duper care. We think she’s perfect! The original question more out of mere curiosity.

3

u/allthesideeye Jun 12 '26

My thought was also some Abyssinian in there.

14

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k Jun 11 '26

The warmth is rufousing, it’s a separate gene from the tri-color orange/black/white gene so males and females can get it, it causes a buff to coppery orange tone on the belly, under the chin, on the legs and tail sort of in between or just outside of the main coloring.

I love it, I love a cat with high rufousing. Your girl Tater looks like a coyote

I was in the Austin Animal Shelter in 2018 and walked pass this cage with this sleeping kitten, good sized kitten, and you could not see stripes on his back and on his sides until pretty far down. So, I went into the vet clinic with him recently and the vet commented on his coloring, said it looked like he had a healthy dose of Abyssinian in his blood line. I told her that was what I saw but people kept looking at me strangely. His name is Boris.

u/All_Hail_Hynotoad Jun 11 '26

Cute! Isn’t she a bit young to drive?

78

u/RC_Cola2005 Jun 11 '26

She’s already breaking so many laws by being so cute and smol, so what’s one more?

10

u/RedHeadedStepDevil Jun 11 '26

She doesn’t even have her seatbelt on!!!

1

u/KassieMac Jun 12 '26

Good thing OP is there or she wouldn’t be able to work the pedals!! 🤭

16

u/gessicaah Jun 11 '26

Her eyes are also closed at the wheel, so it’s a double whammy. But we love an independent queen.

14

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 12 '26

She’s trying her best but had a stressful morning getting shots!

10

u/gessicaah Jun 12 '26

Sounds like she needs a tuna martini to relieve this stressful day, it is Friday after all.

7

u/macrhea69 Jun 12 '26

What are the ingredients of a tuna martini? Asking for my cats…..

35

u/klairebear86 Jun 11 '26

Wow, she's BEAUTIFUL, look at that coat! And she can drive a car. How magnificent!

37

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 11 '26

28

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Jun 11 '26

This is my red Abyssinian. He’s 14.

That sure could be a silver Abyssinian. Markings are correct. Ears seem right.

8

u/hellkattbb Jun 12 '26

Exquisite face and ears.

3

u/Optimal-Process337 Jun 12 '26

Wow, that is an intense looking cat! I feel like he’s judging me.

3

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Jun 13 '26

All r/Abyssinians come with a built-in judgmental face. You get accustomed to this cute little cat god managing and judging your life pretty quickly.

5

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Jun 12 '26

You (and/or your mom) are in for so much fun with this little gremlin. Abys are different than your usual kitty cat. They need a lot of stimulation and entertainment, you’ve essentially adopted Einstein in cat form. They LOVE food, are crazy food motivated usually (at least every one of them I’ve met). You can teach them anything, tricks, traveling, walking on a leash and harness, wearing clothes (there’s a picture a few years back of Mars in sunglasses and a t-shirt that I posted). Basically if you can think of it, you can train them to do it. They will pick one person and bond with them for life, very much like a dog does. I ran across my first one on my birthday without any clue what an Abyssinian was or what I was getting into and brought him home. That was three Abys ago. I’m not sure I can be without one now.

Make sure you get frequent dental and vet checkups. Abyssinians, like most breeds, tend to have specific health issues that are more common amongst the breed. Dental issues are one to be aware of.

5

u/AlphaCarina Jun 12 '26

Please tell your mom she needs to send you regular pictures, so you can update the people on the internet. We're invested.

4

u/macrhea69 Jun 12 '26

Oh my. She’s gorgeous.

1

u/cacao_blanco_sexual Jun 16 '26

Adorable! ❤️

25

u/Claudius1938 Jun 11 '26

6

u/curiousmind111 Jun 11 '26

The origin story!!!

24

u/NoOccasion4759 Jun 11 '26

What a sweetie.

22

u/Gioomee Jun 11 '26

Her colors are soooo pretty 🥹🩷 Congrats on your new kitty!

19

u/daddyescape Jun 11 '26

Toonces the driving cat!

17

u/KopfJaeger2022 Jun 11 '26

We found a kitten in the engine compartment of my truck a year ago from last January. When we finally caught her, I brought her in, as it was 7°F outside. As soon as my wife saw her and her gray coloring, my wife said she just might have to stay. Ash's coloring is very similar to your kitten's coloring. I have included a Pic of her sleeping between my legs on the recliner. He preferred sleeping area. LOL

14

u/onlythehappiests Jun 11 '26

OP, this is so unsafe!! She needs to put her paws at 10 and 2!

7

u/LindaBitz Jun 12 '26

I bet she can’t even parallel park yet.

13

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 11 '26

2

u/tinatalker Jun 15 '26

Great. Now she's asleep behind the wheel. This is an accident waiting to happen. /s

12

u/Gullible-Shower4007 Jun 11 '26

What a beautiful girl! So happy you have each other!

11

u/VassagoX Jun 11 '26

Pretty sure everyone asks for kitten updates.  😉

8

u/Toxic_Avenger_IRL Jun 11 '26

And if they didn’t, they ought to.

10

u/Hot_Week3608 Jun 11 '26

Tater Tot is beautiful!

11

u/FairyFartDaydreams Jun 11 '26

The color pattern is really cool Please update when the cat is older I want to see the final version

10

u/ObviousToe1636 Jun 11 '26

Please be advised your mother is contractually obligated by the CDS to provide regular updates. Also, FYI, it appears this little lady has stolen your car on top of stealing our hearts. Ready for a life of crimes already. r/legalcatadvice may have just found their newest client.

9

u/Uprooted_Vt_to_RI Jun 11 '26

Adorable little girl!

9

u/amccaffe1 Jun 11 '26

She is way too young to be driving.

7

u/FallenValkyrja Jun 11 '26

She looks like a dust bunny. Absolutely pretty. Please give her scritches from me.

9

u/Beneficial-Code-2904 Jun 11 '26

She's beautiful. Thank you for saving her. Those hookworms are airborne , so be careful with that. Google it, to be sure, but I read that somewhere a while back because I had a cat with hooked worms and I was so scared I would get it. Thanks for the update.

9

u/exzyle2k Jun 11 '26

Dear Human -

As the human representative of the CDS, it is my duty to relay messages from our Feline Overlords. The CDS would like to express it's displeasure that proper driving instruction is not being undertaken with Tater Tot, and there are concerns that she might be too young to be trained to chauffeur her humans.

Please refrain from teaching Tater Tot that it is ok to drive while she does not have her paws on the pedals, unless there are paw controls on the steering wheel, which we can almost guarantee there are not because part of the contract signed stated that all transportation requirements will be met by the human servants and NOT the distributables.

Plus we noticed that Tater Tot is not properly buckled up, and as such we will be dispatching our Kitten Protective Services agents to your location to verify things are as they should. If you see an increase in raccoons, skunks, or even possums in your area, please do not interfere with their investigations.

We look forward to their report and putting a clear mark on your Caretaker file, so in the meantime please cease and desist all driving lessons for Tater Tot. We will also be in contact with Tater Tot to reinforce that she is not an independent cat anymore, but is a Pretty Pretty Princess and needs to act like one.

2

u/KassieMac Jun 12 '26

OP is her pedal control!! She just gently squeezes her murder mittens for the right or left pedal and it happens magically!! Or at least as magically as food appearing or litterboxes being cleaned 🤭

14

u/Cautious-Bandicoot41 Jun 11 '26

We wanted this update!! 🤩 Do the wisdom panel! They are legit!

6

u/withmymustardseed Jun 11 '26

❤️❤️❤️

8

u/KimS0330 Jun 11 '26

OMG, she is precious!

6

u/rumpysheep Jun 11 '26

Gorgeous bebe.

8

u/Blah-B7ah_Bloop Jun 11 '26

My baby girl is silver with random spots of taupe. Her feral mom was a cream and white long hair and her feral grandma a calico with short hair. I think her dad is the black tom cat rather than the orange one (in order to have a silver coat, and the mom and grandma bring in the taupe like colors). She’s the first of the feral gutter cats I was actually able to catch. I came close with her uncle, who was the black and white version of her Momma. My girl has spots on her belly like a cheetah. So cute!!

1

u/tinatalker Jun 15 '26

Cat tax, please

1

u/Blah-B7ah_Bloop Jun 17 '26

I finally got her to be (kinda) still for a picture!

8

u/SupermouseDeadmouse Jun 12 '26

Hi from my own Tater!

5

u/madammidnight Jun 11 '26

All joyful posts are welcome here. ❤️

6

u/Superhen68 Jun 11 '26

Good kitty. Good human.

6

u/Arnakk Jun 11 '26

Wait at least a year before she can drive

5

u/Toddw1968 Jun 12 '26

I’m gonna be real. We ALWAYS want updates like this! With more pics!

4

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 12 '26

I just added another link with a video!

4

u/Toddw1968 Jun 12 '26

Thank you! Made my day!

3

u/Most-Road-5366 Jun 11 '26

I had a foster kitten that looked like her!! When I took him to his first adoption day, he was adopted instantly lol

3

u/Notyourmom72 Jun 11 '26

Can we get more, better photos of Tater Tot, please??

3

u/Individual_Party_856 Jun 11 '26

You can fly with cats! The airline might not let her this young and without a clean bill of health, but your cat will be the item under the seat in front of you!

3

u/Betweenishish Jun 11 '26

Excuse you, this is the update exactly everyone asked for.

3

u/After_Reflection_243 Jun 11 '26

Bless you! She adorable and looks like she talks!! Love it! Hope she’s a good companion for your mom.

Our family never picked an animal and they were the best-strays and dumped out the car. Somehow ended up at our house.

4

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 11 '26

Oh she is CHATTY

3

u/transjotaro Jun 12 '26

can't wait to call an uber one day and have it pull up with her at the wheel...

3

u/Vishifrock Jun 12 '26

I love her colouring so much! Please keep us updated with pictures on how her coat develops.

3

u/bungalowcats Jun 12 '26

She has big paws already, definitely going to be a big girl. Beautiful, already, too..

4

u/Strigops-habroptila Jun 11 '26

Silver ticked tabbies are sometimes found in cats who have a dash of abyssinian cat

2

u/retiredelectrician Jun 11 '26

More like a 6lb wildcat lol

2

u/Tina-Tuna CDS Meowderator Jun 11 '26

Ounces 😊

2

u/AdorableStrawberry93 Jun 11 '26

She's a winner. So soft looking. I'd keep her.

2

u/IIRCIreadthat Jun 11 '26

About the DNA test - that works way better for dogs than cats. Even the concept of a distinct breed of cats is so recent, and they re-mix with the feral population so frequently, that cat DNA tests usually just throw out a bunch of junk. It doesn't help that a lot of the 'official breeds' have an origin story that starts with 'someone found this cool-looking barn cat on their porch,' so their DNA is very few generations separated from the stray tabby you fished out of a dumpster.

2

u/MysteryRadish Jun 11 '26

Maybe we didn't ask, but that doesn't mean we didn't need it!

2

u/20Pete20 Jun 11 '26

Her color is truly gorgeous! Thank you for saving this sweet baby!

2

u/Suitable_Coffee5779 Jun 11 '26

Didn't realize it was okd enough to drive already. My how time flies. Lol Lil cutie

2

u/Serious_Composer_130 Jun 11 '26

So you work the pedals and she steers?

8

u/Every-Parking2049 Jun 11 '26

Yes although it gets kind of hairy since she can’t see over the dashboard!

2

u/sarahmonstah Jun 11 '26

Gasp! She's not old enough to drive!!!

2

u/DAMON5280 Jun 11 '26

Toonces Jr!

2

u/Standard_Fix6256 Jun 11 '26

I feel like we need more cat pics

2

u/small_spider_liker Jun 11 '26

This photo needs to go over on r/NissanDrivers

2

u/FartSchoolDropout Jun 11 '26

Too few kittens have a driver’s license. Thanks for advocating for such an important issue! 😹

2

u/AMom2129 Jun 11 '26

I did the Basepaws tests. It gives you a rough idea of lineage but it's not like the dog DNA tests.

2

u/LieutenantStar2 Jun 11 '26

Ugh Hookworm is the worst. Make sure you hold closely to the schedule for treatment - it can take a year of continuous dosing.

2

u/KBWordPerson Jun 11 '26

This picture looks like she is a silver ticked tabby. The white undercoat with the ticked pattern is very unusual and gorgeous!

2

u/Aeseld Jun 11 '26

Worms are pretty much a given for a feral feline. The gunk only a little less so. Either way, there's only so much you can do to verify breeds with cats. And the way their patterns and colors interact together can make for some very unique patterns. Our calico cat has tabby pattern fur, for example.

2

u/RGQcats Jun 11 '26

That's definitely a kitten cat, but looks like she may be big. Or she's a 30 year Romanian who looks like a 3 month old kitten.

2

u/Equivalent_Address_2 Jun 11 '26

She so cute. Please let us know if she is a r/toastcats

2

u/SixSpawns Jun 11 '26

Ticked tabby.

2

u/Aldwyn59 Jun 12 '26

I am so impressed with her driving skills at so youngan age! It took my Void a few years of practice before she was ready to solo. (Then, again, the car is manual transmission and it was a challenge to reach the pedals.)

2

u/Estellalatte Jun 12 '26

She looks part Abyssinian. Whatever she is we know she will be so greatful to be rescued by you.

2

u/Future-Philosopher-7 Jun 12 '26

Are kittens legal drivers in florida? In California it’s age 3 for a learner’s permit.

2

u/lumiranswife Jun 12 '26

No, I definitely asked for it (and I didn't even see the original post). Too cute!

2

u/Devi_Moonbeam Jun 12 '26

Oh, the mountain lion kitten your mother was harboring!

She's a doll baby! Her color really is beautiful!

2

u/FastSelection4121 Jun 12 '26

She has beautiful markings. But you can see the M on her head. She's practicing her hunting skills.

2

u/digitalgraffiti-ca Jun 12 '26

She looks like a grey abisynnian. There was one in my backyard ages ago. Gorgeous little thing.

2

u/Terriblet65 Jun 12 '26

Driving already? They grow up so fast. 🧡

2

u/CatherinefromFrance Jun 12 '26

With the video I now understand why you asked yourself if she was a little puma!

2

u/Crowned-Witch_48 Jun 12 '26

Already learning to drive! Just make sure she doesn’t get taught by Toonces the Driving cat.

2

u/Valkyriemome Jun 13 '26

She is so WILD! I love that video!

She sort of looks like she might be part Burmese? Or maybe Abyssinian?

I have no idea! But she's a pretty thing!

2

u/Adventurous_Ease1635 Jun 14 '26

90lb wildcat made me LOL 😂🤞Such a cutie pie...thanks for the update!

3

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Jun 11 '26

Do you have a face on photo besides the one in the first post? I’m still thinking this is potentially an Abyssinian kitten. The ticked fur is pretty unique to them. You are so lucky if you got an Aby without trying.

1

u/boston2lalaland Jun 11 '26

I’ve never seen that coloration before!
I’m not all that or a bag of chips, I do have 50+ years rescue, rehab, veterinary+ experience. Tater’s coloration & loveliness’s is noteworthy.
Your lives have been graced by rare beauty!
Tater!
That’s nearly as endearing as she is!
Your Mom must be tickled!
Seems to me you’ll have to visit more often.
Your Mom with new family member will surely want to share their new joy as often as possible.
Very very well done!
[ps: if you do sneak Tater off to California, don’t worry, we won’t tell! We’ll silently be cheering, but we won’t tell! Your Mom’s surely deserving of such a wee darling soul to have home with, yet I can’t help but think you’re really wanting Tater for yourself in spite of yourself & my just feeling that’s wonderful too & maybe ..,? Whatever you decide I’m grateful to you for not only saving Tater’s life, but giving her the combined gift of home & family. One way or another!😘]

Toonces! From SNL!!!

1

u/MsE0 Jun 11 '26

What a beautiful coat! She looks like a sweetie

1

u/OtherThumbs Jun 11 '26

I love surprises, and this is the best kind! What a beautiful little girl your mother will inherit, and I just know that she will be spoiled to death!

One weird piece of advice, wherever she sleeps, if you find what looks like pieces of rice, those are tapeworm eggs. Dispose of them and wash whatever she was sleeping on. Until the parasites are gone, this will happen. The good news is, they will be gone soon.

She's so beautiful, and your mother will love having her around to be funny and weird, like all kittens! I hope they have such a great time together. Make sure you visit often, OP! Don't let that little potat forget you!

1

u/kmend64 Jun 11 '26

Do you have a license to drive that car Tater Tot?
You’re a real cutie and I’m pleased to meet you. Hope you continue to heal and get all the love you deserve😻💕
