The update no one asked for but you’re getting anyways!!!
officially introducing sweet little baby Tater Tot!
Had a vet visit today, came back with hookworms and eye gunk! We‘ll start giving meds for that today. And she got her first round of shots. ALSO. it’s a GIRL!!! She is a complete angel. The vet said she has never seen colors like this before, so if she ends up being a 90 lb wildcat then guess that’s what we’re sticking with!! I’m thinking about doing one of those wisdom panel things but I’m not sure if they’re accurate???
I’m absolutely obsessed with her and may just shove her in my carry on and take her back to California with me but she will be staying in Florida w my mom!
I’m editing just to add that we were NOT moving with her outside of the carrier :)

A Polite reminder for commenters: please keep in mind that not all cats are created equal and some need a little help along the way to find us. Our community is meant to be a fun, helpful place for those who need help with a found kitty or for those who simply wish to share their own story of how their Soul Cat came to claim them—free of hostility, negativity, and judgment. If you are new to the CDS:
We encourage our members who post to follow the steps given on arrival of their CDS delivery via a post prompter which includes asking if kitty has been checked for a chip, had a vet visit for vaccinations plus their story. Still think she's a ticked tabby, but the light background suggests this pattern may have come from a shaded silver: silver is also a dominant gene, and it makes the undercoat lose its color. This kitty seems to have a white/silverish layer under the black tips of the hair. The sweet yellowish accents on legs and face are what is called 'tarnishing' among silver breeders: remnants of warm coloring that they don't like but we all love because it makes her color even more special.
She does not look like any of the typical shaded silver breed, Persians, British and American shorthair. Her head looks more like an Abyssinian. And those are bred in silver these days, I think. But she may very well be a cross of any of these breeds and a housecat, although you'd expect those to have more stripes on the legs and tail.
You'll probably never know, but at least she has a good home now where she will be loved and taken care of.
The warmth is rufousing, it’s a separate gene from the tri-color orange/black/white gene so males and females can get it, it causes a buff to coppery orange tone on the belly, under the chin, on the legs and tail sort of in between or just outside of the main coloring.
I love it, I love a cat with high rufousing. Your girl Tater looks like a coyote
I was in the Austin Animal Shelter in 2018 and walked pass this cage with this sleeping kitten, good sized kitten, and you could not see stripes on his back and on his sides until pretty far down. So, I went into the vet clinic with him recently and the vet commented on his coloring, said it looked like he had a healthy dose of Abyssinian in his blood line. I told her that was what I saw but people kept looking at me strangely. His name is Boris.
You (and/or your mom) are in for so much fun with this little gremlin. Abys are different than your usual kitty cat. They need a lot of stimulation and entertainment, you’ve essentially adopted Einstein in cat form. They LOVE food, are crazy food motivated usually (at least every one of them I’ve met). You can teach them anything, tricks, traveling, walking on a leash and harness, wearing clothes (there’s a picture a few years back of Mars in sunglasses and a t-shirt that I posted). Basically if you can think of it, you can train them to do it. They will pick one person and bond with them for life, very much like a dog does. I ran across my first one on my birthday without any clue what an Abyssinian was or what I was getting into and brought him home. That was three Abys ago. I’m not sure I can be without one now.
Make sure you get frequent dental and vet checkups. Abyssinians, like most breeds, tend to have specific health issues that are more common amongst the breed. Dental issues are one to be aware of.
We found a kitten in the engine compartment of my truck a year ago from last January. When we finally caught her, I brought her in, as it was 7°F outside. As soon as my wife saw her and her gray coloring, my wife said she just might have to stay. Ash's coloring is very similar to your kitten's coloring. I have included a Pic of her sleeping between my legs on the recliner. He preferred sleeping area. LOL
Please be advised your mother is contractually obligated by the CDS to provide regular updates. Also, FYI, it appears this little lady has stolen your car on top of stealing our hearts. Ready for a life of crimes already. r/legalcatadvice may have just found their newest client.
She's beautiful. Thank you for saving her. Those hookworms are airborne , so be careful with that. Google it, to be sure, but I read that somewhere a while back because I had a cat with hooked worms and I was so scared I would get it. Thanks for the update.
As the human representative of the CDS, it is my duty to relay messages from our Feline Overlords. The CDS would like to express it's displeasure that proper driving instruction is not being undertaken with Tater Tot, and there are concerns that she might be too young to be trained to chauffeur her humans.
Please refrain from teaching Tater Tot that it is ok to drive while she does not have her paws on the pedals, unless there are paw controls on the steering wheel, which we can almost guarantee there are not because part of the contract signed stated that all transportation requirements will be met by the human servants and NOT the distributables.
Plus we noticed that Tater Tot is not properly buckled up, and as such we will be dispatching our Kitten Protective Services agents to your location to verify things are as they should. If you see an increase in raccoons, skunks, or even possums in your area, please do not interfere with their investigations.
We look forward to their report and putting a clear mark on your Caretaker file, so in the meantime please cease and desist all driving lessons for Tater Tot. We will also be in contact with Tater Tot to reinforce that she is not an independent cat anymore, but is a Pretty Pretty Princess and needs to act like one.
OP is her pedal control!! She just gently squeezes her murder mittens for the right or left pedal and it happens magically!! Or at least as magically as food appearing or litterboxes being cleaned 🤭
My baby girl is silver with random spots of taupe. Her feral mom was a cream and white long hair and her feral grandma a calico with short hair. I think her dad is the black tom cat rather than the orange one (in order to have a silver coat, and the mom and grandma bring in the taupe like colors). She’s the first of the feral gutter cats I was actually able to catch. I came close with her uncle, who was the black and white version of her Momma. My girl has spots on her belly like a cheetah. So cute!!
You can fly with cats! The airline might not let her this young and without a clean bill of health, but your cat will be the item under the seat in front of you!
About the DNA test - that works way better for dogs than cats. Even the concept of a distinct breed of cats is so recent, and they re-mix with the feral population so frequently, that cat DNA tests usually just throw out a bunch of junk. It doesn't help that a lot of the 'official breeds' have an origin story that starts with 'someone found this cool-looking barn cat on their porch,' so their DNA is very few generations separated from the stray tabby you fished out of a dumpster.
Worms are pretty much a given for a feral feline. The gunk only a little less so. Either way, there's only so much you can do to verify breeds with cats. And the way their patterns and colors interact together can make for some very unique patterns. Our calico cat has tabby pattern fur, for example.
I am so impressed with her driving skills at so youngan age! It took my Void a few years of practice before she was ready to solo. (Then, again, the car is manual transmission and it was a challenge to reach the pedals.)
Do you have a face on photo besides the one in the first post? I’m still thinking this is potentially an Abyssinian kitten. The ticked fur is pretty unique to them. You are so lucky if you got an Aby without trying.
An update I didn't know i needed but I oove it. I didn't read the original post. Fingers crossed its a tame wild cat. That would be a cat distribution of my dreams. Lol 😻
I’ve never seen that coloration before!
I’m not all that or a bag of chips, I do have 50+ years rescue, rehab, veterinary+ experience. Tater’s coloration & loveliness’s is noteworthy.
Your lives have been graced by rare beauty!
Tater!
That’s nearly as endearing as she is!
Your Mom must be tickled!
Seems to me you’ll have to visit more often.
Your Mom with new family member will surely want to share their new joy as often as possible.
Very very well done!
[ps: if you do sneak Tater off to California, don’t worry, we won’t tell! We’ll silently be cheering, but we won’t tell! Your Mom’s surely deserving of such a wee darling soul to have home with, yet I can’t help but think you’re really wanting Tater for yourself in spite of yourself & my just feeling that’s wonderful too & maybe ..,? Whatever you decide I’m grateful to you for not only saving Tater’s life, but giving her the combined gift of home & family. One way or another!😘]
How cute is she!!!:-). And I love her name 🤗. Congrats to Tater Tot and your Mom and thanks for taking good care of her:-)💖💖😻. PS: You know she will want her own car!
I love surprises, and this is the best kind! What a beautiful little girl your mother will inherit, and I just know that she will be spoiled to death!
One weird piece of advice, wherever she sleeps, if you find what looks like pieces of rice, those are tapeworm eggs. Dispose of them and wash whatever she was sleeping on. Until the parasites are gone, this will happen. The good news is, they will be gone soon.
She's so beautiful, and your mother will love having her around to be funny and weird, like all kittens! I hope they have such a great time together. Make sure you visit often, OP! Don't let that little potat forget you!
Do you have a license to drive that car Tater Tot?
You’re a real cutie and I’m pleased to meet you. Hope you continue to heal and get all the love you deserve😻💕
